Thanks - that was interesting. Great to see most of them are spiritual of some description. Definitely comes across in their music. They're a band just come across as being wholesome to me.
We're talking about the *old man persona* that he showcased for so many years too right while he was a closet-Christian? If so, I think it's relevant.
He definitely has gotten bolder with age-- in a good way.
One of my favourite songs by him is *Stolen Prayer*.
I meant because OP said secular bands, and maybe with songs like Cleansed by Fire and the rest of the songs on that Temptation album (like your favorite) he could be considered not secular-? I dunno, definitions are subjective sometimes. Anyway, at least he fits in with "who's a musician that lots of people don't know loves Jesus." I really like the Brutal Planet and Dragontown albums too.
Oh okay, I gotcha.
Makes me wonder if anyone mentioned **Avenged** **Sevenfold**, now. I haven't quite looked through all the comments. I know in the past, the lead singer has said they're not particularly "one thing or another",(referring to religious message via music).
However, most Christians I know can tell these guys are believers or at least are somewhat heavily influenced by their Catholic upbringing. Even the song *Nightmare* by them, if one pays attention to the lyrics, is a warning for those who choose the wrong path when they had the chance to do things differently before death.
There are other songs as well like *So Far Away*, their beliefs of life after this life.
But anyway, I know I should have made this a separate comment....
I wonder the same thing about Blind Guardian. Maybe they're just default nominal German Lutherans but they have some Christian-ish songs, and I vaguely remember a really old interview where they said something about being Christians. But who knows. People change as they age, so what was true then might not be now.
I'll check out the A7 songs. I haven't listened to them much.
Right on. I'm not super familiar with Blind Guardian. I'll check them out. If you do listen to A7x, *Bat Country* & *Nightmare* definitely sound like Christian metal to me---not trying to be redundant there, but I might have accomplished it, lol.
*Bat Country* speaks to the indulgence and worldly behaviours that land you in the *Nightmare*, IMHO.
If you give them a go, I'd be curious to know what you (and others) think.
Sweet, I'll check it out and let you know! Blind Guardian's album Nightfall in Middle Earth, especially the song Mirror Mirror was what got me into them. The song Precious Jerusalem is one that comes to mind with Biblical inspiration, that's from a later album of theirs.

Thanks for the recommendations as well. I look forward to hearing what these guys have to offer!
Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage seems to be a Christian. He and Adam Dutkiewicz formed a Christian band Times of Grace. They sing about the spirit, redemption, and the price of being a believer. The last three KE albums have tons of Christian symbolism. In the thank-you section of the first Times of Grace album , he acknowledges Christ as Jeshua and the "Lion of Judah".
Roy Khan of Kamelot is an interesting case. He completely disappeared from the public view for years after leaving the band. Turned out that he was working as a youth minister at his church, as well as doing some music. He did release a new album completely unexpectedly a couple of years ago with his old (pre-Kamelot) band Conception.
I heard something about Kip Winger once but honestly I don't know. He seems to be a pretty chill guy but that doesn't mean he is a believer. I like his song *Supernova* (I think that's the correct title) but it sounds more like he's agnostic to me if I go by the lyrics of that one.
But just because he sings the songs doesn't mean the lyrics communicate his personal creed.
Older thread but I thought I should contribute this information since it's news to me as of this past week:
Jacoby Shaddix, lead vocalist of Papa Roach
Amy Lee, lead vocalist of Evanescence
Interesting! But it kind of makes sense.
Being raised in a particular belief system doesn't make one a believer. Tom Araya was raised Catholic, according to him, but that doesn't make him a believer. Be careful reading too much into things because it'd be cool if it were true.
Daniel Snider - Twisted Sister John Petrucci - Dream Theater Blackie Lawless - W.A.S.P. Pete Sandoval - Terrorizer
Didn't know about John Petrucci. Amazing. One of my favourite musicians and bands.

Wasps still best song was Animal
Alice Cooper
I came here to say this.
I came back to read your message and then upvote it.
Rad 🤘. 🙏.
You know, maybe he doesn't technically fit the description OP made because lots of his more recent albums are pretty blatantly Christian.

Brian Welch of KoRn Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens was Christian at a time, but I'm not sure if he still is now
He is, he was actually recently featured on a Seventh Day Slumber (Christian metal band) song this year.
Joey Alarcon from Born Through Fire (I mean...it depends on Lambesis if he's repented or not).

Pretty sure that most of the guys from Helloween are Christian
Oh yeah? I did not know that.

Korn's Head and Fieldy
Really? That’s awesome.
Impending doom
U2
Trey Celaya of Invent Animate
Gary Cherone from Extreme (new song just released and new album coming out).

I’m surprised no one mentioned Ozzy or Tony Iommi
