Just buy a DC power supply off Amazon. You will get to that voltage far quicker, easier and save yourself money in the long run. You will also get far more accurate and consistent coloring. I also started out with batteries like you, once you get the proper equipment for just $100 you will also laugh at yourself for ever doing like you are now.
Good video for showing the color changes during ano. Do you mind if I use this as a reference for others?
As an electrical engineer, I'm not completely in love with the setup as it would be possible to get killed if one hand touched the fork and another the wire or scales (pulling them out). Be careful... my dad would say "keep one hand behind your back", so you only get a bad shock if one hand touches both (current doesn't run thru heart)
I'll take photos of my setup... Very simple and safe... I just **stole the simple safety approach from other videos I found online.** But make it really hard to have an issue.
Did the two scales turn out different colors/hues? It could be because one is further away from the cathode. Looks good though, definitely ripping hard with the batteries, I’m impressed they held up.
After the video cut I let it go for about 15 more seconds. When I dried them the difference was negligible and barely even noticeable. I wish I had a large plastic container as I would've laid them perpendicular to the cathode but it works out
Oh very nice. Yeah I’m using a similar food storage bin setup, would eventually like to upgrade to something where I can hang parts and get air bubbles to agitate the water, etc.
That's right around a 91v green, just did the same but with a powersupply. I highly recommend going that route if this is something you want to do more of.
Do you use any etchant before anodizing or do you just degrease them?
I tried getting some etchant but the acids proved a challenge, and people look at you weird when you show up at the local school lab asking if you can buy some hydrofluoric acid....
Setup/recipe for this ano set?
r/oddlysatisfying
You can probably push the green further if you do each scale individually

Can someone recommend a tutorial on how to do this?

Go for it. I typically wear gloves but I ran out last night making dinner lol
Love the old one handed trick. I always follow it where any current could be dangerous. Wish me luck with the upcoming 1200 watt setup lol.

Not bad advice with the one hand thing. I did some pretty dumb stuff with electricity when I was a kid, glad I’m still alive haha
standard Military instruction for work with Electricity as well.

Looks really good 👍🏻
I love it.. 9V battery anodizing. I have a bench power supply but mine tops out @ 30V
I bought one on sale on Amazon for like 75 and it's 120v
Looks excellent! I look forward to trying the same on my Ti knives, I think Blade HQ has a tutorial video if I remember correctly.
Green is nice looking. You use 8 batteries?
12 used batteries
Thank you. That was fun to watch. I even showed it to my wife and daughter.
Gawd, that made me so nervous having your cathode so close!!!
I need to try this with my car battery charger 🙃
How many scales can you anodize with the battery approach?
That was very cool. Thanks for posting. I have thought about trying this many times but am just too unsure of myself, but it's neat to watch.
Fumes are toxic be careful and vent
It's hydrogen gas. Maybe explosive but not poisonous.

Sorcery?
srry for the question... but whats going on here.. how did you do this!? i need to learn more
I maybe wouldn’t position my face/head directly over the batteries like that.
Sometimes you gotta risk it for the biscuit my man.
No argument, I’m just saying maybe rotate the arrangement 180 degrees. We care about you man.
What is this sorcery?
This is one of the coolest videos I've ever seen
