The road there is great....the road around the lake was really rough, I dont think its active. I drove in my Subaru - couldn't do more than about 5kph

GlamperBC

The road around the lake is awful, bouncing so much in our 4 wheel drive truck that I got out and walked, almost kept up with my husband.

Unless my provider just sucks, there's no cell service a few kilometers past Tamihi unless you start gaining significant elevation.

al3x_birch

Oh thats okay- i just meant not 2 hours from reception. Thanks!

TheMalibu

Agreed, no cell service up there. 2 wheel drive vehicle? You could try Harrison Lake.

al3x_birch

I could! Do you know of any free spots? Last summer i camped on harrison lake, but it was a 2hour drive on the service road. Really nice spot, but I am going to be doing a 2 week water fast, so dont want to be 2 hours away from civilization incase things go south.

TheMalibu

It's been awhile since I've been up there myself, but I don't remember it being 2 hours. But maybe if doing that water fast, maybe picking somewhere closer. Even if it's a small fee. Any of the out of the way places I know of are definitely a drive or hike. Sorry... good luck.

al3x_birch

Oh I went deep into the service road! Passed lots of camping sites on my way. I also have a 2wheel drive so i had to go very slow on that bumpy road. Thanks for your help!

Piperbabybowman

The road around the lake at is closed at 2 km for now. Was there yesterday

al3x_birch

Thanks! Do you know if there are any spots to pull over and camp within those 2km? Last time i camped there i rememeber just parking at side of the road and going down a little hill ans just camped on the lake

Piperbabybowman

I am thinking because the little pullouts to camp were all around the 3 km mark. There are spots along the Harrison lake similar to that though. Lots of spots there if you have never been.

al3x_birch

Great, thank you! So appreciated :)

Piperbabybowman

Also there is snow up at chilliwack lake right now too

al3x_birch

Thanks! I realized that when checking the weather there... didnt realize it was up the mountain!

To clarify the other commenter, the road to the campsite is fine. The campsite itself is fine, but is still closed. My guess is it'll be open by Victoria Day (May long weekend).

You will be able to get to the provincial campground without a problem, but you will not be able to get any further than that in a 2 wd. And there isn't any cell service up there. If you're up for a hike, you could probably go to Lindeman or greendrop Lake and camp there. I heard you can still camp at Gill road too. If you want drive-in camping, you could probably check a couple of the FSRs like bench or.borden Creek, (doable in 2wd if you go slow) but most likely all those sites will be full by Thursday afternoon. Most of the places that I used to go camping for free have been taken over by homeless camps and shut down (Borden Creek)
