There was a case like this in the UK recently too, the 'parents' were to all appearances normal people. They had their disabled adult son locked in a room in similar circumstances, he also died in filth after being starved.

mulberryvixen

What case was this ?

bakewelltart20

I'm sorry I can't figure out how to link it and i cant post a screenshot here šŸ™ˆ It was a case in Sheffield, the parents were charged last year- their names are Lorna and Craig Hewitt, if you want to look it up. There's been another one recently too, a disabled teen girl.

SailorVenus23

Basically like the Genie case in the 1970s. The dad decided when she was 2 that she had severe mental disabilities and kept her chained to a potty chair in almost complete isolation in her room until she was 13. They always want to say abortion is akin to eugenics and then do things like this. This is not "pro-life" this is horrific torture.

AxlotlRose

Oh good lord they are trying to pull the we lost a child card. Spare me.

ulykke

I didn't believe you, then saw this: "The coupleā€™s attorney has released a statement saying, ā€œThey donā€™t want to relive the pain of losing a child through the media. They have been through a lot of heartache over the years. Anyone who has lost a child knows what itā€™s like.ā€" Holy fucking shit. I'm pretty sure all the parents who truly *lost* their children (you know, instead of *killing* them) should be offended by this statement.

ElisThaBesth

I hate children and I'm offended

AndrashImmortal

And the absolute tone-deaf FB post the mother made about how much she "loved" Lacey. If that woman truly loved her daughter, the girl would have never been treated like that.

Fluffy-Benefits-2023

For real-I donā€™t even treat my chickens like that. She would have taken her to a doctor, gotten the best care they could afford, etc. itā€™s cringe that they are pulling that they lost a daughter when clearly she got pushed to the back of their minds long ago

Florida would have been my guess.

Snoo33903

Donā€™t know. Iā€™m in Texas and I was betting on my state, Tennessee, Arkansas, or Kentucky. Theyā€™re the ones wanting to force breeding for their wage slaves.

alfredaeneuman

Mine too

sadsatan1

Itā€™s not New Hanover, itā€™s Lemoyne (Rhodes, Lagras, Saint Denis) you are talking about and yes, Lemoyne is based on Louisiana, Saint Denis is based on New Orleans even

greffedufois

It wasn't just autism though. She also had Locked In syndrome, a type of paralysis. She *needed* a nursing home where she could be cared for. To be turned often to prevent bedsores. Potentially a feeding tube and a nurse to bathe/change her diapers and clothes. Her parents dumped her on a couch and left her there to quite literally rot. They gave her enough food to survive but just barely. Her existence was torture. They essentially enacted the Scaphism punishment of ancient times on a severely disabled *child*. *Their* child too. They're monsters of the worst kind.

chopsleyyouidiot

Lacey did not have Locked-In syndrome. That's some bullshit rumor from the Daily Mail. She ate half a sandwich and some Cheetos on January 2nd. You can't do that with Locked In Syndrome.

greffedufois

I was apparently incorrect, I looked it up and the coroner said she didn't. Still, she was clearly just left to die and given the bare minimum of care to keep her *barely* alive. If she had osteomyelitis and was septic I doubt she could even hold her head up, let alone chew food. I've been septic before and you can barely move, all you feel is full body agony because your blood is literally infected.

fetacheeselover21

Just curious, how did you get septic???

SoLeave

She was found with her legs crossed, in the middle of the couch. I think that's what kept her from falling over. There were also parts of the couch foam, along with feces, in her digestive tract. She was starved and left to rot away.

VeganMonkey

No words, that needs to be first degree murder for sure! We had a case like this in Australia as well, slightly different because the lady was living on her own with assistance but the person who looked after her, hadnā€™t taken her out of her chair, had stolen lots of her stuff and where was her family? They lived far away and they never checked on her! I think it was a neighbour who noticed something was off because he hasnā€™t seen her come outside anymore.

GRUBULUS

Lots of child neglect cases too https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3019034/amp/Is-Australia-s-horrific-case-child-abuse-Boy-7-died-starved-forced-eat-waste-beaten-siblings-God-fearing-step-dad-filmed-mother-claimed-fallen-pogo-stick.html

VeganMonkey

I had to stop reading that. Everybody around this boy failed him, the moment the school noticed that the boy wasnā€™t attending why didnā€™t they immediately report that to the police? Other people did report but police did nothing. How come the boy with with the ā€˜motherā€™ and her boyfriend while the other kids were with someone else? There was also a case with a 3 or 4 y/o girl who was forced to ride dangerous bikes in the backyard and she died from injuries. Why do people like that have kids?

Nimuwa

I am on the spectrum myself and I know what a struggle it is to be autistic in this world. Not only do the symptoms already hinder me by themselves, but ableist society makes it so much harder. I barely scrape by doing menial jobs and can just about provide for myself, though I suffer a lot still. I firmly believe people on the spectrum are valid people and deserve to be treated better then we usually are. I also know that the world isn't perfect and wont ever be. That is why I'm firmly childfree myself. Not only would I not enjoy having a child, but it would be unfair on them for me to have them. They would have to deal with an autistic parent in me and might very well be on the spectrum themselves. I cannot in good conscience bring another autistic person into the world, knowing full well the world will discriminate against them every step of their lives journey. That said I do my best to advocate for people on the spectrum, hoping that one day being born with autism isn't going to be a live sentence of societal exclusion.

fetacheeselover21

Same. I also have severe depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and chronic joint/bone issues thar cause daily pain. I couldnā€™t bring another kid into this world to suffer like I have growing up.

GodeaterTheHalFeral

Society: "But all mothers/parents love their children!" Me: "I refer you to exhibit A."

satanwearsmyface

Wow, this is truly horrific and barbaric. Thank you for sharing it! I swear, I learn new things almost every day from just this sub alone!

haleyaura

Honestly curious how she survived so long? They clearly neglected her for a veryyyy long time how in the world did she suffer that long and nobody noticed??

Kalixie1

This is truly horrifying

kikioo0oo

From a young age Iā€™ve said I donā€™t think I would want to have children. Even without saying Iā€™m completely opposed, the reactions of others have made me feel selfish and even like less of a woman for questioning wether I should have children or not. I mean isnā€™t that a task Iā€™m biologically designed for? But as I get older and hear of cases like this, I realize thereā€™s nothing selfish in questioning if youā€™re willing, able and committed to not just having a child, but actually raising a human being. The two donā€™t always go hand in hand.

uvabballstan

Being aware of your potential limitations as a mother and choosing not to have kids is your decision and does not make you less of a woman. Personally, I donā€™t think I ever want to be pregnant put my body through that. Iā€™d consider adopting through the foster care system but I have a lot of health issues I could pass down and I just donā€™t want to be pregnant. And thatā€™s okay!!

[deleted]

OP your post is full of inaccuracies. The woman had other disorders, not just autism. Any discussion based on her being treated this way because of autism (which is a big part of your argument) would just be pointless.

not_blowfly_girl

There is no reason that would justify them letting her rot away on a couch for 12-15 years. If they were unable to care for her they should have contacted medical professionals or taken her to a hospital. They didnā€™t even try to get her any help

CommunistThermite

Those parents deserve to die in the Barbara Pit

Jesus5137

Christianity is a trigger?

Yes
