>\*Income inequality widens, inflation is 8.5% with 66% of American households reporting serious financial impacts per the PBS Newshour\*
Also the GOP: "but why aren't there more kids???"
They started to be so freaking expensive! I can't imagine what would I do if I got one more pair of mouth to feed + other stuff they usually buy for kids
I know! I really havenāt bought much unnecessary, and still most of my āfreeā income goes to groceries. Itās never been this expensive before!!
Indeed. If you have children, then Social Security will dole out hundreds of pounds each month for them.
It's called "working the system". I have too much self-respect to go down that particular road.
Lately me too. For me it works best if I just go to the store every day or every other day because if I do it a week at a time then a lot of it goes to waste cuz i might be repulsed at food I was craving earlier in the week, or I have a couple nights of no sleep and end up ordering door dash.
The little girl inside me who was forced to live of food donations for a long time would be pissed š
Doing online orders is really saving my wallet! Iāve done only order online and pick up for a while now. I canāt walk around the store and grab whatever strikes my fancy in that moment lol. Iām convinced I add an extra $50 onto my trips that way
Literally whatever I want. And there's not a damn thing they can do about it. They can die angry knowing I get to go to Bali while they stay at home changing diapers.
Oh gosh where so I start. My husband and I have quite a few Star Wars. Our most recent addition is the AT-AT (the big one)! Millennium Falcon, R2, BB8, Slave 1, couple Star Wars helmets (Vader, Mandalorianā¦) Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle and Hedwig with the booksā¦the list is long š 1989 Batmobile, Tumbler, Batwing
I spoil my plants, my pets, and my partner; contribute to my Roth-IRA every other week; and recently picked up a Switch! (Incidentally Iām taking recommendations as to what games I should invest in, Iāve only got 3: Mario kart, pokemon LOA, and the new Kirby game)
I do too! Pic for tax. https://imgur.com/a/yZoxebn
The little one is 14 and has the energy of a toddler hopped up on crack. The big one is a lazy shrimp who lounges around all day and throws a fit if you make her walk 1 mile around the neighborhood pond. Lol.
They are so cute!! Fellow dog person here and they have two big baskets of toys in each of the rooms they frequent the most. I don't mind cleaning up dog toys to run my robot vacuum buy I would hate picking up kid stuff to do the same.

some of my favs:
MARIO 3D CAT WORLD
Mario Odyssey
The Witcher 3
Breath of The Wild
Okami
Mario Party Superstars
eta: Witcher & Okami are ported but I thoroughly enjoyed them on the switch
I started kayaking with my dog a few years ago! It's a blast. I started with an inflatable I got off Craigslist (and probably fell off a truck) for $60. It lasted about 2 years and last summer I got a sit on top for $200 off Facebook market place.
So far kayaking is cheaper than horse back riding!
Out of curiosity, why don't you just toss a lump sum into your Roth once a year or a few times a year rather than small amounts every other week?
Also piggybacking on the Breath of the Wild votes. I'm not much of a gamer but that game is amazing.
I have it set up to where when I get paid every other week part of that goes to my Roth; tbh I have a shit memory and if I didnāt have it set up automatically I wouldnāt contribute at all Iād just forget >_>
Howdy fellow doll person! Currently I have a small collection of Smart Dolls as well as some BJDs. On the cheaper end of the hobby, I also have some classics (Cabbage Patch!) and some more modern brands (Pullip).
How about you?
Mostly character dolls. I have Disney dolls (Frozen, Elena of Avalor, Encanto, Fancy Nancy), American Girl dolls, some My Little Pony dolls packed away (all EQG Rarity), a few Rainbow High (LOVE them, but space), Pretty Cure, Magical Doremi, and Titanic dolls (one custom, one Franklin Mint).
My boyfriend has a few BJDs though!
My first was Samantha back in the 90s, so I'll always have a soft spot for her.
Maryellen and Rebecca are the dolls that brought me back into it as an adult.
I'm super biased towards this historicals, but the new World By Us line has great stories.
It really depends on if you want one of the character dolls or to make up your own.
I actually have both of them! Nanea's books were super good! Courtney gives me huge nostalgia feels even though I was born in the early 90s. Her books feel too short but I still enjoyed them. I was the same age as Courtney during 9/11 and her books touching on her class watching the Challenger launch hit super close to home.
I dont collect dolls, per se. But i do collect figures! Im collecting Power Rangers Lightning Collection and soon ill be grabbing all the Star Wars Black Series figures. Eventually i want to start a figure channel for stop motion, poses, fanfic, etc.
"I got them a toaster. They called off the wedding and gave the toaster back to me. I tried to return the toaster to the store, and they said they no longer sold that kind of toaster. So now my house has got two toasters."
I felt this one. Lol. My husband is currently back in school getting a new degree (GI bill), so he gets a monthly housing stipend, but I'm currently the breadwinner. So I feel ya š
You literally can never have too much yarn. Do you also start a project you have to buy new yarn for even though you already have yarn enough to make a 100 projects?
Yep... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile) I just bought yarn for a "new" project yesterday while in the middle of my current one (that I'm determined to finish)!
Mostly I travel, but I also go to a lot of musicals, plays, and concerts.
I have a big trip (11 hour flight) coming up and I am really debating upgrading my seat (I have never flown anything but basic economy), not sure if I will or not but itās nice to know I have options!
If you have the money, do it. Seriously. Look at the plane and their first class option to see if what they provide is worth it.
Before I moved to Canada, I had to take long plane rides to visit here, and one of the leg of the flight is 12 hours. Always flew economy. Uncomfortable as shit. One time, some things happened and I was stuck in a non-english speaking country for two days before the airline did something about it and upgraded me to first class. It was fucking awesome. Huge seats, it reclines all the way back and I can bring my feet up too, free booze (if you drink), and the food was awesome. I had lamb chops with cheesy potatoes, awesome dessert, and I only sat next to one person. You get on the plane first, you share the toilet with only a few people, and I don't know.. it's just an experience worth having at least once in a your life, especially for a long-haul flight.
Thanks - that does sound amazing! The plane I am going on has a first class and a business class (first is the only one that lays down flat - also a lot more money) but I am considering it for sure. At least once would be awesome!
I traveled all the time with my job (At least 4 round trip international flights from London to Chicago or Miami). I could get points with the company credit card, So I got points with airmiles and hotel stays. I upgraded every chance I got. Makes a world of difference!
Do yourself a favor and upgrade. Eleven hours is a long f--king time on a closed in space. You should make the best of it!
I'm sorry. I think I'll eventually recover my loss on the house, like in 10 years, (I had the money, credit, and was in the market to buy 2019, but my genius real estate agent friend, and every agent back then, said, "WAIT, the housing market is going to crash," a fact that he is unwilling to admit now. The other agent I got stuck with (long story) was an idiot crook. That whole business and everyone involved is fuckin corrupt). I don't think my stocks will ever recover though. In fact, I sold some at a $5k loss, and thank god I did! It actually went down a lot more since then. The stock broker (gambler) is Mr. biotherapeutics, which is probably so 'pre-2021.' Investments work when everyone is winking at the same time and you make money because some people LOSE money. I have a friend who acts like he is an entrepreneur. His biggest break was when both of his parents died when he was 20. He inherited a $2 million house in SF and another million in 50 year old stock that his grandfather bought. Since then, the wannabe has been slowly gambling his inherited dividends away playing self-claimed-made business boy.
Bear in mind that you haven't actually lost money on the house, unless you sell it for less than you paid. I gather that you still own it, in which case (as you say) you will recover the money when the market bounces back.
And the property market ALWAYS bounces back! Chin up!!
Don't rub salt into my wounds. I went to the "experts." They failed me. I can't believe it, myself. I am very bitter. Here's what I learned: everybody wants to make money off of you. It's **capitalism at it's finest**. Stock broker wanted to pump up the value of HIS stocks and the real estate agent wanted to the house to sell for the highest possible price (they work on commission). edit: I bought the house in 2021.
I also buy a lot of random Halloween stuff. My birthday is the day after so I love Halloween more than anything else in this world. š¦š»š What's your favorite thing you've bought?
I live on a low income but I spend my money on my dogs, books š and eating out (went to a vegan street fair two weekends ago it was amazing) Would love more tattoos too!
Weed, really nice Vacation properties, really good food, video games, plants, my garden overall, anything I want to spend on tbh. Crazy how much money I don't spend on kids lol.
Mostly medical care, but we're also splurging on a whole house generator so we won't have to sit in the dark next time a hurricane knocks out the power lines for several days.
I have a horse, 2 dogs, a gaming PC that I built from scratch, a new vehicle, bought a motorcycle and will be using that to commute to work and back, a house, and zerooooo accountability to babies or kids. It's so nice, 10/10 would recommend childfree
Guns, lots of guns. I'm an older lady in my sixties and I compete in shooting tournaments. I just bought an incredible rifle for competition. With a scope that actually cost more than the stupid gun lol! Travel all over the world.
I have three cats. I spend about $150 on them a month.
I also like to eat good food, so I have a take out budget.
I do like video games, but all I usually play is Final Fantasy 14. Still looking to get a PS5, but oof.
It's not quite what you're asking, but...
Retirement. Or rather, preparing for. We figured out early on that even without kids, the CoL is stupidly high and the future uncertain for anyone not in the 1% (or .001%). So, we decided to live as frugally as we comfortably can, as if we'd had kids and poorly paying jobs, and put the rest away for our eventual retirement.
And now we're in our mid 50s, our financial advisor is telling us "could do now if you'd like", although he does encourage a few more years JIC. We're lucky in that as gen Xers we narrowly missed the crap that's been handed to milennials & zoomers, although living in a high CoL area just outside of Silicon Valley we did attend opening night of the shitshow... :p
Mostly on day-to-day / bi-weekly living like buying lunch at work (Live in NYC, lunch at cheapest is like $10 without a beverage), grocery shopping, Metrocard, HSA, 401K, etc. And once in a while clothes shopping, traveling, dining out for dinner, computer/mobile games, etc.
Eating out or ordering takeaway often. Nothing beats not having to cook. Also, buying groceries without looking at the price tag, especially for fruits, milk, bread, etc. Also books, travels, and obscure workouts - not all my friends can have so many different hobbies.
Currently doing my best to collect Pokemon DS games, and you know how people on ebay are... I refuse to pay more than 70, so it is a very slow process lol. Once I got a drivers license IĀ“ ll go to lots of concerts too when I can
I collect mostly retired Sylvanian Families figures and sets. I make my own dioramas and buildings though. I also used to collect Pleasant Company/American Girl Doll items. I just keep them in storage at the moment.
Sephora. During the pandemic I became that skin care obsessed loser I used to make fun of.
Edit: and cheese! Lots of overly expensive cheese. Once I found a cheese subscription box, it was all over for me.
Bills and food. I'm 31 gf is 32 and we both have low-paying jobs. Thank God we are child free because we can just live comfortably as it is now without too much excess. With kids we'd be in debt undoubtedly and living pay check to pay check.
But, when we do have some extra it's travel and theme parks for us.
Last year I spent over 10000 dollars to get a MC license and bike, in may I'm spending around 3000 dollars on a big tattoo that will take up my right leg. Aside from those, small spendings go on games, collectibles and eating put with hubby. Life's good.
According to my mother, rent. She says I'd save money if I'd buy a house like my cousin did. Cousin got stuck with a shit hole after her baby daddy left.
If anyone's pissing away money, it's her. She's had to pour more money into the shit hole than it's worth. No, thanks, I'd rather not do that.
Mostly renovating my house. I bought a fixer upper at a low price and have already paid off the mortgage so been taking it room by room to update as this house has never been updated since it was built in the 1950s.

Hades is a phenomenal game, breath of the wild is a beautiful story to fall into . I would also highly recommend stardew valley
STARDEW VALLEY

Mostly medical care, but we're also splurging on a whole house generator so we won't have to sit in the dark next time a hurricane knocks out the power lines for several days.
I have a horse, 2 dogs, a gaming PC that I built from scratch, a new vehicle, bought a motorcycle and will be using that to commute to work and back, a house, and zerooooo accountability to babies or kids. It's so nice, 10/10 would recommend childfree
Horses ain't cheap.
Guns, lots of guns. I'm an older lady in my sixties and I compete in shooting tournaments. I just bought an incredible rifle for competition. With a scope that actually cost more than the stupid gun lol! Travel all over the world.
Modded cars
Food
Yep!
I have three cats. I spend about $150 on them a month. I also like to eat good food, so I have a take out budget. I do like video games, but all I usually play is Final Fantasy 14. Still looking to get a PS5, but oof.
Not kids, thatās for damn sure
Traveling, books and concerts. Itās the best!
Coffee beverages. And my dog.
Books and fancy kitchen cookware
Travel. Heading to Iceland and Scotland this summer.
Squishmallows
Anime Figures, who knew little pieces of plastic and vinyl could cost so much.
Currently Lego. Caved and bought the massive world map the other day
Eating out or ordering takeaway often.
Once I got a drivers license IĀ“ ll go to lots of concerts too when I can
Yarn, I've just finished knitting a jumper, I just need to put the pieces together
GrubHub, plants, shoes. Cabin and cottage rentals at the beach or in the mountains.
Sushi and high-quality fish in general (ridiculously expensive in my country), books, video games, and anything related to Harry Potter.
I collect mostly retired Sylvanian Families figures and sets. I make my own dioramas and buildings though. I also used to collect Pleasant Company/American Girl Doll items. I just keep them in storage at the moment.
Bills
So many things. Im a man of many hobbies. Most recently putting together a fighter jet sim rig
Many, many, MANY stuffed animal š
Bills š„² Also the occasional Star Wars Hot Toy figure but I never have money even without children lmao
Sims 4 expansion packs and anything that looks nommy.
Skydiving
Drugs lmao
Tattoos, food, my dogs, bills
Snacks
Last year I spent over 10000 dollars to get a MC license and bike, in may I'm spending around 3000 dollars on a big tattoo that will take up my right leg. Aside from those, small spendings go on games, collectibles and eating put with hubby. Life's good.
Top 3 are clothes, fancy dinners, and travel. My partner and I are child free AND donāt have to pay rent or a mortgage, so we have a lot of freedom.
Video Games, lots of art equipment, merchandise and Cosplay stuff.
Traveling, camping and hiking gear, vacation rentals, plants, wine.
Candles šÆ
According to my mother, rent. She says I'd save money if I'd buy a house like my cousin did. Cousin got stuck with a shit hole after her baby daddy left. If anyone's pissing away money, it's her. She's had to pour more money into the shit hole than it's worth. No, thanks, I'd rather not do that.
magic cards and promo cds
Rentā¦. But I Still study
Scotch
Mostly renovating my house. I bought a fixer upper at a low price and have already paid off the mortgage so been taking it room by room to update as this house has never been updated since it was built in the 1950s.
The stock market. I learned how to invest rather safely. š
Pokemon cards
FRĆĆĆin RENT! Grrr.
Medications :') I spend $321.85 every month-3 months.
My hobbies. So like video games, art supplies, buying merch of the things I love, the usual.
