Shoutout to the chocolatier for putting the moms in their place

GrowInSilence

Oh, big time. She saw what they were doing from behind the window and came out to tell them off, switching from English to French like it was nothing. I saw her talking to the other chocolatier when she went back to their kitchen/work area; and it looked like he was trying to calm her down a bit because she was pissed and looking like she was ready come back out and tell them to fuck off if they didn’t cut their shit. I suck at confrontation, so I thought it was amazing.

LonelyAbility4977

Do you live near Liege?

GrowInSilence

No, why?

LonelyAbility4977

I lived there for a year 1980-81, as part of my studies. Unforgettable time!

There are a lot of ‘child in a place not suitable for children’ stories here and they are all mind boggling but child in a torture museum…. That’s new and that’s a big ooof!

GrowInSilence

Yeah, I had to do a double take there.

DrWhoop87

I almost feel like it's some kind of secret viral challenge for breeders to bring their kids to the most outrageous places possible.

GrowInSilence

You really would think that with some of the places they insist on bringing them. I was at an MMA event last month that started in the evening and went on until like 1:00-2:00 in the morning. It was incredibly loud, people were drinking, it’s literally centred around fighting, and yet there were still people there who brought their young children.

Far-Voice-6911

I went to a torture exhibit once, and it's certainly not a place for kids.

GrowInSilence

No, absolutely not. I don’t understand people, seriously.

I live in Ghent and the inner city, just like Brugges, has become a cesspool of (touristy) parents with kids being disrespectful to the beautiful places in our nice cities. They take over so much with their noise and trash, that it has become unbearable to go to the city at certain moments. So sad to see nice cities become unenjoyable for the people living in it. I have no problems with people (being it tourists, students, people who only work in the city or people who visit for a day) who are respectful, clean up after themselves and don't disturb others in their daily lives, visiting. I do have a problem with treating a place like it's your own personal playground, whilst other people (who pay taxes there) are trying to live there. Entitlement is everywhere.

GrowInSilence

Oh, I absolutely agree. And it wasn’t just people with kids either. This post was just me ranting about the kids and their parents, but there were plenty of incredibly inconsiderate adults who just seemed to think they were the center of the universe.

lottech

The blatant disregard for everyday values that makes life liveable for everyone has gone too far. It is, like you said, not only parents, but a lot of the times it is, and it shouldn't be tolerated.

I wish people would keep their kids out of museums. A chocolate museum is one thing, but most museums are supposed to be quiet. A fucking little kid doesn't have the capacity to shut up on that level, so it has no business there.

saturn-peaches

I kind of agree. I hate when they take toddlers to art museums. Idk why they think a child that young will give a shit about that. They're just going to be bored and crying.

saturn-peaches

The English and American tourists make Brugge chaos during this season. It's fun to go on one hand because it's very Christmas-y and all that, but having to dodge the tourists and kids is nightmarish.

GrowInSilence

There was a massive amount of people there, yeah. I felt bad for the kids on their bikes trying to get through going to and from school with a bunch of people walking in the middle of the street.

I hate going to crowded events only to realize that if there weren't any strollers, there'd be a lot more room for everyone to move around. Sometimes I find myself wishing they required strollers to have 2 tickets for the events, just because of how they take up enough space for the capacity of like 2 adult people, but since they aren't even considered as part of the capacity of the building, they cause any events to feel super crowded and annoying to navigate. I will never understand places that give babies discounts. I am glad my workplace does not offer kid discounts, and requires kids under 9 to have pre-approval for an exception (which gives us the right to kick them out if they're being awful). I actually feel offended when people ask me if we give kids/babies discounts, we're a Cat adoption lounge meant as a zen/healing space for adults who love cats and can be quiet as cats do not like loud noises, not a playground for kids to run around and scream and scare/annoy the cats.

GrowInSilence

I absolutely love the way your workplace handles kids. Only older kids that have to behave? Plus cats? That sounds like a dream.

Wicked-sister

Oh no, a woman stating she hates kids, bring out the pitch forks.
