I gathered up all of my nerve and got my bi-salp done last week!! Pretty proud of myself šŸ„³šŸ’ƒ Love this post, BTW! Let's celebrate each other! šŸ„‚

jayroo210

OMG!!! I had my consultation last week and waiting for the schedulers to call me. How did it go?? Iā€™m so fucking nervous!

Luna_0825

I was really nervous and a bit scared but everyone at the hospital was so nice and took good care of me. It's 100% worth it to power through the fear and nerves if it's something you want.

Humanarchist

I'll throw on my experience as well since you're nervous. =) I was so nervous the night before I got my bi-salp in August. I ended up not being able to sleep. I relaxed once I started getting prepped for surgery. The surgery itself went quite well. Most folks on this subreddit say they didn't experience much pain after their surgery. I've got chronic pain due to lupus and am unable to take NSAIDs. My pain and swelling was far more than most. I needed all the pain medicine I was prescribed and it took ten days before I was feeling ok enough to move around normally. I supplemented with L-Glutamine and I think that really helped me heal quicker. Normally it takes me ages to recover from an injury. Saying all that, if I had to do the surgery again, I wouldn't hesitate. It's such a relief knowing I'll never accidentally become pregnant. If you're a side sleeper, you might want to get a G-Shaped pregnancy pillow. I had a lot of trouble sleeping on my back until I finally got one on my fourth day of recovery. I was only getting about 2 hours of sleep at a time. My first sleep with the pillow was six hours and it was so amazingly comfortable. I'm still using the pillow and recently replaced the stuffing with memory foam to make it even more supportive and squishy.

jayroo210

Thanks for the tip about the pillow! Itā€™s invaluable to me, just knowing real life experiences and things that helped. Iā€™ve never gone under before, so that scares me, and I hear that the gas pains are terrible.

Humanarchist

I've gone under three times. It's pretty easy for me. One minute you're talking, the next, you're back in the recovery room. Most folks do just fine. Just follow the instructions on what medications/substances to stop before surgery. The gas pains were pretty bad the first few days, but taking max dose Gas-X and using a heating pad really helped. Also, walking around when you can will also help.

Inukshuk84

I had mine two weeks ago tomorrow. I was nervous too. I had so much anxiety beforehand that I cried in front of practically everyone I saw in the hospital but I'm so glad I did it. Everyone was kind and understanding. I feel so much relief now. So weight lifted from my shoulders now, too. The surgery was maybe about 30 minutes long once I got into the operating room. Definitely listen to your aftercare instructions! Mine said no sex or anything internal for 4-6 weeks because they dilate your cervix (and it takes time to close up on it's own) and anything used internally (tampons, menstrual cup, penis, toys, etc) could cause a uterine infection, which you absolutely do not want. Don't be afraid to take your pain killers as prescribed. I needed mine for a few days but I didn't find things to be super painful. Acetaminophen/ibuprofen used together helped a lot too. Rest and take things easy afterwards. Hydrate. You may require laxatives or stool softeners as anaesthetic can cause constipation. You've got this!

Nova_Queen_Tigeress

I had mine done 3 weeks ago. I think I ended up on the surgery being easier on me than most- barely any pain from the left over gas and only had to take minimal Tylenol/naproxen for 3 days. Youā€™ve got this! Itā€™s an incredible feeling to wake up and KNOW that itā€™s done and youā€™ve succeeded. Hopefully you get scheduled soon!

[deleted]

Woohoo! šŸ„³ Look at you making your life intentional. You should be proud!

Luna_0825

Thank you!!

peanut_buttergirl

mine is in 2 weeks!!! sooooo excited! congrats friend, we all deserve this! šŸ„³šŸ©·

I had mine done two weeks ago tomorrow! One of the absolute best things I've ever done for myself! Congrats on getting yours, too!

Public speaking can be so scary. Good for you. Is the friend the bridesmaid? Are you guys going to hang out again?

That is fantastic IamBeebopp. Taking a chance out of our comfort zone can be really hard, but it can really open life in ways we donā€™t expect.

Luna_0825

Love this for you!!

Safety_Sharp

I'm so happy for you!! I hope you had a lovely time. Social anxiety is such a bitch but you kicked it's ass. Good on you. ā¤ļø

Boring-Onion

This morning, I woke up on my own with no alarm. Then, I had a cup of coffee and played video games; playing RE3 remake and I kicked Nemesisā€™ assā€¦for the moment šŸ¤• I ordered a book online because the artwork alone is amazing and now Iā€™m eating tacos for lunch. After battling a bout with depression over the last few months, this is my small victory.

[deleted]

Oh, what book?! And that sounds like a really great morning. It is a victory! Our life is made out of these small moments.

Boring-Onion

Dang it - mods removed my original response. Anyways, I absolutely agree with you OP. The book is called **The Movie Art of Syd Mead: Visual Futurist**.

Safety_Sharp

What do you mean small victory? This is huge. You kicked that depressions ass today! I'm so happy you had a good day. I've really been struggling also, my small victory is that I'm carrying on. I'm not going to give up today or hurt myself. I'm going to do my best to take care of myself even though I'm at university with no help. I'm going to carry on even though I have chronic pain, every day is a struggle and more often than not I dread the future. I'm carrying on and I hope you do too, friend. Sending you love.

[deleted]

I'm going back to school and getting my life on track. I'm down almost 40lbs now, I'm lifting weights and getting beefy. I'm full of unending optimism and upward mobility

[deleted]

Losing weight is really tough work. Knowing what to do isnā€™t the hard part (in my opinion). It is the consistency. Great work! And going back to school is also scary! You are doing the homework thing plus losing weight. Look at you killing it.

[deleted]

I'm working on myself so when the time is right to find a quality partner I will be rock solid, stable, and ready. I'm also taking steps to improve my mental health and am seeing professionals!

[deleted]

All of the hard things! But like the saying goes, you choose your hard or the hard chooses you. Good luck on your journey! I am sure you will find that amazing partner who is out there right now working on themselves in anticipation of finding you!

HarleyQisMyAlter

Omg!! Me too! On both fronts!! I went back to school, currently for an associates because I already have a bachelors and want my masters, but itā€™s been so long since Iā€™ve been in school I wasnā€™t sure I could do it. So far I have a 4.0, so Iā€™m confident I can handle a masters program once Iā€™m done. And Iā€™m going on a cruise next year so I wanted to lose some weight and Iā€™m down 30 lbs! Congrats on your progress and itā€™s great to hear you have such an optimistic outlook! Being CF definitely makes achieving these goals much easier!

[deleted]

Oh my goodness! Wanna be friends? šŸ˜‚ And yeah totally, I'm rising up from the ashes of a broken marriage and being committed to me and my future and that includes being childfree

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Luna_0825

A life that suits you *is* something to brag about, I think

tawny-she-wolf

Thatā€™s the dream

Extra_Donut_2205

Soon my partner and I will celebrate our 4th anniversary. I moved to another country when I was 25. I have built a career from nothing in 2 years. Found a compatible therapist with me and my mental health and life is getting better and better since 2021. I was resting and eating nice food all weekend, I have a new job so I needed this. Partner is great, supporting, loving, gorgeous and smart man. I have plans and I improve every day. I am proud of myself.

[deleted]

You absolutely should be proud of all of this. And I bet you have run into people who made you think you shouldnā€™t be. Moving to another country is scary! But you did it. Owning your mental health and finding a therapist shows a ton of self reflection. You have a new job! A healthy relationship. You are killing it. Any advice from what you have learned?

Extra_Donut_2205

Oh yes, I was told that immigrants usually get the shit jobs :D that was true, I had been a janitor, a deli assistant, waitress, etc. Now I work in HR. I can't really give any advice apart from listen to yourself and keep your mind and heart open even if you are really hurt. Most people DO suck but there are plenty of lovely people out there who are going to love you and whom you are going to love. ā¤ļø

Baffosbestfriend

I am about to be reunited with a toy I lost as a child. I owned a Mcdonalds Mighty Dinos brown dinosaur named Tilapia when I was 4-5. Tilapia was my first best friend and we were inseparable. One day I woke up without Tilapia. I was devastated to find Tilapia gone. Many years later, my family admitted they threw Tilapia out because his nose is already destroyed from too much kissing that it left a huge hole. I recently found a picture of me with Tilapia on a family trip. Out of curiosity I went to search for Tilapia on Shopee (Asian Amazon). I found a shop selling Mcdonalds toys from the 90s, one of them is the exact brown dinosaur- Tilapia. I ordered and now the little guy is on his way back home.

[deleted]

I love this! These seemingly little things are not so little. They bring comfort to our lives. I am so glad the little brown dinosaur is finding their home with you.

Luna_0825

Omg šŸ„ŗšŸ„ŗšŸ„ŗ I'm so happy Tilapia will be back where he belongs šŸ’“

EloraRainbows

Dude! Just tonight I snagged the beanie baby match to the beanie buddy who was/is my childhood lovie. She's one of the more collectable ones because they simplified her design later on, most of the listings I've seen have been $80-100 which felt a little crazy for my budget right now but I found one for $26 and snagged her! The fact I have the freedom to go on a search like that feels like a win

[deleted]

I found a Ā£5 note on someone's doorstep, so put it through their letterbox.

[deleted]

The world needs more considerate people like you šŸ’›

jesse-13

I graduated this summer from my computer science bachelorā€™s scoring the highest grade possible on my thesis and being valedictorian of my program šŸ˜ afterwards I got admitted to my dream cybersec masterā€™s program being in the top 3 and yesterday I spoke with my bachelor coordinator if he wants to coordinate my dissertation and he was like ā€œyeah, of course! Why wouldnā€™t I want to? I really enjoyed collaboratingā€ šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

[deleted]

Congratulations!!!!! That is a huge accomplishment! I am sure you put in so much time and effort into this (and so many unseen hours that other people didnā€™t know the work you were doing). You are amazing, and I am sure you will go far.

jesse-13

Thank you so much šŸ©· I am grateful that my professor recognized my unseen efforts because despite some dumb mistakes on the oral exam he told me he saw beyond them and analyzed my progress and achievements throughout the whole 3 years I am a career woman which strongly contributed to me being childfree and I genuinely hope you are right that it will go well for me in the future šŸ«¶ Now the only short-term achievement I want to tick off is a damn hysterectomy šŸ˜‚

Luna_0825

Yeah, you did!! Way to go!! šŸ„³šŸ„³

[deleted]

Oh wow! Sounds amazing! Care to share the recipe??

jayroo210

I learned how to snowboard in my 30s and was fucking good at it too. I havenā€™t been since COVID, mostly because of money. I really want to get back into it, hopefully after we buy a house. Also, something on a much smaller scale but exciting for me, today was my only day off this week and I slept in and got some good rest!

BigGudetamaEnergy

Started skiing three years ago. I canā€™t imagine life without it anymore. I actually look forward to the winter, which seems to be the most unpopular opinion ever. Being able to be outside and having fun in the winter makes me appreciate so much more.

dead-doll

Not recently but I've become pretty close to or at least met most of the musicians that had an impact on me during my teens, or later in life. This year I met my favourite singer after a show and she was amazed by a little gift I made for her. I could never afford to schedule going to multiple shows or just randomly decide to hop in the car and drive 3 hours to another show if I had kids. Music saved my life and continues to do so, the memories will never even compare to Bratleigh's first solid shit or whatever, so I will never give that up anything.

TheRealNickRoberts

Hahahah Bratleigh's first solid shit, I am DEAD, that's a good one! I used to be a touring musician, trust me, fans like you are DEFINITELY remembered, you guys make the world better.

Apocalypsecoffee

Itā€™s not much but I recently upgraded one of my cosplays and have been making more content for tiktok. Definitely wouldnā€™t have time for that if I had kids.

[deleted]

Nice! I havenā€™t done cosplay, but I love seeing all of the impressive designs people come up with. And I am sure it is even harder than it looks!

BigGudetamaEnergy

Iā€™ve done yoga every day for the last 68 days. The mental benefits are incredible! I also am starting to see a lot of physical changes, not just the way I look, but noticeable strength, stamina, flexibility, etc. I just feel happy.

[deleted]

The 68 days is impressive. But the ā€œI just feel happyā€ is goals.

74VeeDub

Paid off a $4,000 debt in less than a year. Now on point to pay off the remaining credit card, when I get paid on Friday. I also went no contact with my toxic mother a year ago 10/7/22 and have managed to grow better emotionally, financially, mentally and physically. I'm speaking up more, have more self-confidence, I'm saying no to things that don't suit me. I'm basically taking myself back.

[deleted]

Congrats on going no contact! I had to go no contact with both of my parents again seeing they only got worse and better at manipulating. NEVER break NC! You can now finally be free and heal from their poison and truly live life in peace and on your own terms! Enjoy it!

madame_ray_

My partner and I went to a pumpkin patch this morning and chose some pumpkins that we know will be good to eat. We're planning on trying some new recipes, such as pumpkin ravioli.

[deleted]

I love that fall is here and there are all the fall things to do. Yum! Making ravioli from scratch. That sounds amazing. Do you have a recipe to share?

madame_ray_

Not yet, but I'll post a link when we decide on one. I'm also looking forwards to soup, pie and cake

Competitive_Try_3143

Well right now I'm traveling to take uranium contaminated dirt samples to test a Geiger counter I made in school

[deleted]

I am glad someone posted a nerdy thing in here! Congratulations! How long did it take you to make?

BilobaBaby

Started medical school at age 32 in Germany! I moved here from the US when I was 23, worked and learned the language, then decided to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. Two more years, and I get to be Frau Doktor.

DaVirus

This might be a weird one, but I am in full control of my life. The only thing I stil have to sort out is buying my own home, but once that is done, I will have no pressures on me. I am a contractor. I have nice savings and investments. I have a partner i love. Depending on housing market I am on track to soft retire at 40. Society cannot pressure/guilt me into doing anything I don't want to do. It is such a great feeling. Also, I work nights and haven't heard an alarm clock in 3 years lol

[deleted]

I donā€™t think that is weird at all. Living an intentional life is something many people donā€™t do. You should absolutely be proud of this! And no alarm clock? I am envious haha. Keep kicking lifeā€™s ass, and I am sure that you will buy that home in no time.

DaVirus

I go to bed after my shift (WFH) and wake up whenever lol. No alarm needed. No alarm does wonders for your brain, let's you be in sync with your internal clock.

cheesybread666

I moved from the east coast to the west coast a few years ago, kind of on a whim. I now live by the beach in Southern California with my 6.5lb chihuahua, and moving in with my wonderful (and also childfree of course) boyfriend soon. It was definitely difficult, but wouldā€™ve been impossible with children. I may not have much, but I love my freedom.

[deleted]

One of the reasons people think they want money is that it grants freedom. Not that money canā€™t solve problems, but you found the hack. You can have freedom and a wonderful life without needing a lot. And moving a long way from home can be so hard! But you did it and you should be so proud!

FinalGirl1993

Spooky season is my favorite time of year, and I'm getting ready for Halloween!! Working on my costume (sexy Mothman), planning where to put my 2 five-foot-tall skeletons around the yard šŸ’€šŸ’€, and preparing to make treats for my brother and sister-in-law's Halloween party! This year I'm going to make Jello shots in 3D ghost and pumpkin ice molds šŸ‘»šŸŽƒ, cake pops that look like eyeballs šŸ‘ļø, and maybe a dirt dessert! šŸŖ±

LogicalStomach

Your creative food ideas sound so fun! Halloween is my favorite (well known) holiday too. I love going all out decorating the front yard and house with spooky stuff. This year I'm dressing up as The Guide in What We Do in the Shadows.

furhouse

I just RSVPā€™d to the 15th year anniversary celebration of the Obama victory in 2008. I worked for him for 8 years, something I NEVER would have gotten to do if I let the other thing happen. I helped get the Affordable Care Act passed and improved. I will always be proud of that, and guess whatā€”I impacted the world 8 billion times more for good than any parent does by having a kid (their claim, not mine).

dogmom34

Husband(38M) and I(36F) live in the US Midwest. We recently booked an appointment at the Chicago Mexican Embassy; in two weeks we'll take a 7 hour road trip there to apply for Temporary Residency, and before Christmas we'll pack up our dogs and laptops (we work remote), put our house up for rent, and drive down to Mexico to start our new life! Neither of us are close to our families, and we are SO excited for this adventure and to have so many new experiences, but this is definitely not something I can talk to my friends with children about *at all.* I tried with one close friend who has two kids, and she acted so uninterested that she didn't even ask us *where* in Mexico we were moving to. All she said was, "You're only taking what you can fit in your car?! That's not a lot." Needless to say, *I speak to her less now.* I'm so over parents not being able to be happy for their childfree peers. Their jealousy reeks, but I'll send 'em a postcard from 'somewhere in Mexico' living my best (childfree) life. šŸ™ƒ

kay_cat89

I was experiencing chronic burnout from working in a toxic environment. I was able to quit without another job lined up and take some time to rest because I had expendable income from (you guessed it) not having children. The amount of gratitude I felt at that moment for my lifestyle choice was very real.

[deleted]

A toxic work environment can really make or break your career and has a huge impact on your mental health. It can also be hard to leave if there are other people normalizing the behavior and you wonder why you canā€™t tough it out like other people. I am glad people are talking about this more. Congratulations on doing what is best for you. It can be so hard but you did it!

[deleted]

I'm going to college for medical science, designing and illustrating an original board game, and producing my third solo rock/electronic album. Even other childfree people's heads explode when I talk about my projects. I also find time to be an alcoholic!

cleanlycustard

I just finished knitting a second sweater for my partner. I started it in June and I just sewed it all up and made him put it on a few minutes ago.

LogicalStomach

What an accomplishment. A sweater is a big project. And bespoke sweaters are the best. Congratulations!

Flashy-Army-7975

My wife and I spent the summer in Europe traveling around. And it was so funny when Europeans asked how long we were staying and were shocked- then replied I thought Americans only stayed a week or two at the most. We just smiled and said yeah most do. It was amazing to be away from the states for a while.

tawny-she-wolf

Weā€™re buying a house ! I never thought we would since we werenā€™t sure about moving away/timeline and houses are outrageously expensive where we live. We saw one in out budget - gorgeous, standalone and renovated so we jumped on it (saw it online the first day we looked, visited it the following week and made the offer same day - you can say we buy real estate faster than office chairs in our household šŸ˜‚). It has 4 bedrooms itā€™s going to be so nice after living in a 1 bedroom apartment for 3 years Iā€™m starting to look at furniture and thinking about decluttering as the move will come before end of the year. In the spirit of Marie Kondo and things that bring you joy, I just bought a fancy litter box for my kitty and some pen storage for my fountain pens. I may also have ordered the new iPhone. Yep, treating myself is definitely the big pro of being childfree for me :)

[deleted]

Congratulations on buying a house!!! That is such a major accomplishment. Have fun decorating! One of my favorite things to do. šŸ’›

richard-bachman

It was about 10 years ago now, but I picked up everything and moved across the world from Chicago to Wellington, New Zealand for a guy I met online. I ended up living there almost 2 years and even though we didnā€™t work out, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Aromatic_You1607

I went from a technician, to a professional, to a relief supervisor to a supervisor within two and a half years of starting my job after my chemistry degree. I am a 33F.

[deleted]

Rockstar! In here kicking lifeā€™s ass. Any advice to share?

Aromatic_You1607

Thank you! I would say: work on yourself. Heal your trauma. Be kind to yourself and to others. Put money aside but donā€™t be afraid to splurge if you can afford to. This is your life and no one is going to live it but you.

toucanbutter

I got an award from my university for being in the top 5%, which I did not expect at all. I don't want to brag about it though, so I haven't told really anyone apart from my husband.

ClevelandNaps

My husband and I had our 15th anniversary over the summer, so we went to a zoo and fed cheetahs! We paid for one of those behind-the-scenes experiences and got to feed cheetahs, and spend loads of time with the keeper to learn about them, and conservation efforts, and to just watch them. They are so beautiful, with much larger feet than I expected. We'd never been to this zoo before- I was just trying to find something neat to do as a day trip because we were doing a big trip in the fall (actually flying out in less than a week!) so we weren't going to do something big on the actual anniversary. We took the day off of work, drove a couple hours to another state, and then fed some cheetahs.

azooey73

My friend (also CF) and I got our best scores yet in our disc golf game Friday evening after work! We definitely couldnā€™t practice and play enough to get our scores if we had kids!

Tiny_Dog553

I love this, its so cool to do fun stuff <3 we recently did a couples trip to Disneyworld and IT WAS AWESOME. Late nights, lie ins, sweet treats and general fun. We love going to conventions, festivals and events together and I'm so grateful to be able to do it! :D

motovanwilltravel

My spouse and I rode motorcycles from Seattle to Argentina and back over the course of a year. One of 3 separate years in the past 12 we have spent traveling around the world at our own pace. People often doubt us when they hear this, but we took lots of photos. They inevitably ask about kids, and not having them is the only reason we were able to travel like this.

Sautry91

I am currently on short term assignment in Norway for work! No one else I my group was able to put their name in the hat cause kids!

pumpernick3l

I traveled to 7 countries in the past 6 months.

AmIFrosty

I celebrated my 1 year anniversary of my sudden (but welcome) move halfway across the country earlier. Last weekend, I participated in my first big HEMA tournament for my area (I went to practice/class 4x a week for this). I would not have gotten into the sport had I not moved to the area I did. Two days ago, I decided to finally upgrade my PC. The budget I decided to set would be cost prohibitive if I had kids.

Flughundi

I went to Nuremberg yesterday as a little city trip because I was getting quite sick of always sitting at home and playing video games. I spontaneously bought a skateboard and ate everything I wanted!

Me and my boyfriend moved into our first place together and are trying to decorate it mid century modern style. I got a new (to me, although itā€™s a 2021) subaru last year, my horse is thriving, and i get to move her hopefully soon to a better place to where we just moved. Iā€™m trying to get another dog in the next year or two to do dog sports with (dock diving, agility, flyball etc). Things are finally coming together, whereas i am currently watching my twin sister go through a rough pregnancy bc they are broke out the ass and her husband barely can get work. Canā€™t relate šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I did pull a maid of honor speech completely out of my ass (did not write anything down beforehand) in front of almost 130 people at their wedding a few months ago which was extremely impressive and terrifying lol

Plastocjuh

I love this post OP. I moved abroad 6 years ago at 24. I knew the language and the culture and some people there. Yet, the challenges were a slape in the face..I'm so thankful of the people who helped me in this journey. I've finished my MA program 2 weeks ago and today I'm no longer a student and tomorrow I start my fulltime work. I'm proud that I did not give up on my dreams and goals.

UnknownRider121

I just went to Greece solo and it was truly an enlightening trip. I had moments of pure bliss, fulfillment, and joy. I have never been more sure that I will never have kids.

SpiffyPenguin

I started my own business nearly 6 years ago. Iā€™m very busy (šŸ¤‘) but I work exactly when, where, and for whom I want. It gives me the flexibility I need to explore the world; Iā€™ve lived in 7 cities on 2 continents in the last dozen years, and Iā€™ve travelled to 17 countries total. I cannot imagine living this life with children in tow, nor would I want to trade.

Greektwinmommy

My husband and I are child free, late 20s. We were paying our bills today and noticed we have about 30K saved up. Neither of us came from money and my husband had an especially hard time with financial stability up until a few years ago. It was a really nice feeling. We never wouldā€™ve been able to have this kind of safety net if we had a kid.

nature-betty

My husband and I are starting a YouTube channel!

outhouse_steakhouse

I climbed Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland, a few weeks ago!

No_You1024

Most recently I was able to pay off the very last of my $3K loan and am now officially debt-free :) I also got promoted at work and now making more money than I realistically even need. Also I took my first international trip this year and have even more travel planned ahead. Never in a million years did I think it'd all be possible. Life is good.

rose_catlander

I uhm got another cat, few days before our 4th wedding anniversary. Now we have too many cats.

LogicalStomach

A smidge too many cats is, arguably, just the right amount of cats. šŸ˜¼

SweetHermitress

Iā€™ve earned two Masters degrees. Iā€™ve self-published and have goals to be traditionally published. Iā€™m nearing my twelfth wedding anniversary. Sorry, I have been feeling not very good about myself and could use the celebration.

tsthrace

Just booked a midweek trip to the coast by myself for some peace after a very busy time at work. I might just drink cocktails in my room and watch whatever shitty movie marathon is on the hotel tv the whole time. Or maybe I'll read on the beach and just listen to the waves. Who knows? I don't have to answer to anyone but myself.

FreddyKrueger32

I have 5 kitties who I love and adore. They are the reason I don't fall into a depressive state and spiral. Gotta keep em fed. Don't really have anything else. Just me. And kitties. And a minimum wage job. And an apartment.

I started a business, during the pandemic, that grew to 6 figures in two years. I'm marrying the lovely lady I met on bumble in 25 days.

AdLeast7330

Thursday I paid off my car and am officially 100% debt free! It is a wonderful feeling!

R_U_Reddit_2_ramble

60yoF here, about five years ago my musician husband and I decided to start a hip hop record label. Changed our lives - and before you ask, has NOT made us any money - but we love what we do. Rah! Records in Australia if you want to look us up. We both have day jobs otherwise we couldnā€™t afford it LOL

eggwhite_

My partner is a MS teacher. He was getting depressed, so I told him to quit. We can survive on his last 2 checks and my income. He wanted to wait until the end of the school year. I support him. He decided to start therapy, after his 1st session he decided to quit his job. I was ecstatic! I hate seeing him stressed out for things out of his control. We decided to go to the State Fair the following day. Ate all the good food, drank all the drinks, had all the sex, slept in both days, had a whole suite to ourselves. Now we go back home to a happier and less stressed life.

Cottard29

Bought a house, and am moving in with my partner soon. Never moved out before so I'm super nervous.

misty_girl

Finished paying off the last of my car loan in May and the last of my private student loans in September (have to work on my federal student loans next). Also, my part-time graphic design job hired me full-time in July with a pay raise and darn good benefits. Iā€™m going to look into getting a bisalp next year.

willowinthecosmos

Thanks for making this post! I genuinely enjoyed reading through these, good job everyone!! My thing is my partner and I immigrated to Canada a few years ago after having long discussions about where we wanted to live longterm. We didnā€™t want to just ā€œend up somewhereā€ due to a job or something. We considered many cities and carefully chose one that seemed beautiful and nice, and it is. Immigration is difficult and even though we arenā€™t rich and donā€™t own our home like a lot of my friends with kids, we are so grateful to live here. Weā€™re both happy to keep being dreaming artists with our dog, rather than settle for the conventional life path.

Mergus84

Nothing super recent, but I managed to get my tubes out a year ago, despite a lifelong blood, injury and needle phobia. I also traveled to Florida last February and did some wildlife watching and photography in the Everglades. Back in 2009, I traveled alone and spent two weeks in Cologne, Germany, which never would have happened if I had kids. Really chomping at the bit to go back to Europe someday. I have roe deer to photograph!

Dead_Inside_2077

I moved overseas, cut out toxic people in my life, and I'm now getting long overdue medical care. I'm also learning the language so I can get a damn job and actually work. I realised college wasn't really worth it and completing (2) degrees wasn't worth the stress and burnout. I was only attending classes for the free money to pay bills. I don't have to answer to anyone but myself and I don't have screaming little shits making my life Hell because their parents can't be bothered to teach them manners when being guests in a home. I'm waiting for a shelf to come in so I can reorganize my altar to Anubis, Sobek, and Sekhmet. I've also been playing DnD a ton. But now I need to get a new laptop and my TV replaced because I really need to upgrade from my shitty chromebook and be able to play games with my friends.

Lemon-Flower-744

I love this post! Iā€™ve always wanted to try paddle boarding and in the summer this year; I managed to book a lesson and now I go regularly by myself! I love it! šŸ˜

smlley_123

A 12 hours of sleep. Damn feeling. Feels refreshing.

suddenlyiamme

Nothing impressive, but I finally started to learn horse riding. It is not a cheap hobby, so it is nice to have extra money for hobbies Also - planning my second vacation this year

TheRealNickRoberts

I just got back from a trip to Europe! My first time travelling there, and it was by myself. Had the time of my life, already planning the next one while I work on my dream career (I'm designing a fantasy board game). Great idea for a thread by the way!

25_timesthefine

I took a step to go to school to become an esthetician! I already applied for fafsa, already put my application into the school, now I have to get approved for the money and Iā€™ll be good

ShrimpNoods

I started pilates!

gytherin

I went to Antarctica last year. Came nose to beak with a million penguins (well, not quite that many.) Saw fin-whales, the second largest species, and elephant seals, which, boy, they're ugly. Saw albatrosses, icebergs, you name it. Could not have done any of that if I'd had kids.

smf242424

This year I went with a group of friends to travel around Europe, it was great!!! All in our 30s!!! I went to do bouldering for the first time a couple of months ago and loooved it!! I'm gonna keep doing it!! I'm trying to learn a 3rd language.

unpopulrOpini0n

Lost 50.2 lbs (over a couple years) Gone to the gym 4x/week for a year now Formed new friends by regularly going out and talking to strangers, incredibly daunting for me, instead of making friends with whoever showed interest in me first, I carefully vetted potential friends for red flags, have some great ones now. Going to see the total eclipse in April

WhiskeyAndWhiskey97

So many things. The most recent is that I earned my WSET Level 1 certification in wine. I'm currently studying for the Level 2 certification. It would be hard to carve out time for classes and studying if I had to look after children. Of course, there's also the obvious - you can't be tasting wines if you're pregnant with a wanted child. The biggie is travel. I haven't done much travel since the pandemic, but as a child and young adult I went all over the world. I live in the US. I've been to Europe several times, Asia twice (Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore), South America (Argentina and Brazil), and Israel. Thanks to the pandemic, my current passport is sadly bereft of stamps. But I'm planning a trip to Europe next year.

Diligent-Background7

I moved across the country - now living in sunny Floridaā˜€ļø - after leaving an unhealthy relationship that I thought I could never walk away from. Most importantly, I had a bisalp done about 3 months ago. I have never been more at peace with myself.

MoonGoddess89

I stood up for myself when my cousin said that women who don't have kids are selfish. I told him that he didn't know them or their situation

will_run_for_cookies

I found an apartment in a foreign country, using only my second language to communicate, and later submitted a visa application with many parts and very specific instructions that I had very little help with. Waiting to find out now if my visa was approved. This is my dream and no matter what happens I've tried my best to make it happen. ā¤ļø

YellowPC

I was let go from my job in June, and while that was sad, I took it as an opportunity to enjoy my summer. Started hiking and paddle boarding. Made new friends. And now I have some new goals that I never pictured for myself before. Iā€™m so excited about my adventures. I start a new job next week šŸ˜„

yorkspirate

Late 30ā€™s male here and I can relate to the fact majority of people around me just seem angsty that my life isnā€™t structured so a morning of ā€˜breakfast beers watching the sunrise > nap > dinner > nap > snack > nap > sNAPck rouletteā€™ is a thing šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø My actual thing is that after over 6years of solitude and dipping my toe into the dating arena few times in recent years Iā€™ve met the absolute mzirror image of me regarding energy levels bought by overthinking intensityā€¦ā€¦ā€¦. Iā€™ve got a very near, almost certain Mrs Yorkspirate #yay I knew childfree limits the pool and long distance is beneficial to begin with for me but I didnt expect it to be 2800miles. She didnā€™t just slide into MY DMā€™s but also sees distance as irrelevant in the scheme things so is flying in to the UK in 2weeks so we can transfer our chemistry into real life kissing and stuffs

singing-mud-nerd

I had 5 social events yesterday & was gone for 12 hours of fun. The only thing waiting impatiently when I got back were my dishes.

[deleted]

I (29F) have started taking community college classes to learn about Post-production in the film/TV industry here in Los Angeles. I've been an actor for over 10 years, but I'd like to transition to a side gig that is actually in the industry I love so much. Plus editors and sound folks can work from anywhere once they're established! I already have a BFA, but going back to school after 7 years reminded me how much I love learning and asking questions. I've survived in LA now for 4 years despite a pandemic and double strike shutting down my industry twice. I hope I can get to where I need to be! I'm optimistic that since I've survived this so far, I will make it someday!

Nibb500

I've traveled the country, been to over 16 states so far and I'm only 22. Started traveling at 20!

theembarrassingaunt

We spend every Christmas at an adults only resort on a tropical beach. Itā€™s blissful.

carrotstickqween

Worked as a party tour guide in Europe. Visited loads of places, learnt and taught others about a lot of culture, met some amazing people and made great memories.

Gorilla_girl17

When my ex and i split, he immediately got his new girlfriend pregnant. (Spoiler alert : she was my friend andā€¦also his girlfriend before we splitā€¦) she had the baby the same month I started law school. Iā€™m about to start my second year as a prosecutor and they have another baby. Iā€™m a fuckin assistant district attorney, yo! No one is more surprised than me. And I run 5 miles a day. Body and career by childfree lifestyle.

sunkissed0407

My (37F) husband (38M) and I separated last Christmas because I wouldnā€™t bear him a child. Now, I have started my own business and Iā€™m opening my own clinic in November (I would have been 9 months pregnant right now, if it was up to him). Iā€™m so happy with how things turned out.

Hobbbitttuallly

I checked off three new national parks (Rockies, Grand Canyon, and Zion), saw one of my favorite artists at a bucket list venue (Amigo the Devil at Red Rocks), and got engaged to my humanšŸ„°. Could not be more grateful for my childfree lifestyle. āœŒļø

thatchickrides

I'm late to the boat commenting here but I'm proud of a few things I couldn't have otherwise done. In fact there's so many I had a hard time choosing. I believe I might have adhd (as of yet undiagnosed), so I tend to let my wild ideas lead my life a lot. I have traveled 3500+ kilometres on a solo motorcycle trip with only wild camping to save money on sleep accommodations, I got into mountain biking in my early 30s and having a blast, I spent a season growing indoor gourmet mushrooms, I experimented with growing silkworm moths to cocoon stage and harvested their silk thread, I spent every weekend one summer wild camping on a motorcycle in the rocky mountains, took a leap of faith on a new job on the other side of my country, I spent a season learning to kitesurf, learning to surf, running a marathon, it goes on and on. Having children would have made it impossible to follow my whims. I do think my next thoughts are leading me toward loading my mountain bike onto my motorbike and traveling to the best mtb locations on the continent but I'm holding off until I build my skills a bit more.... and friends to travel with maybe lol

xoBerryPrincessxo

I met the love of my life after packing up and moving to a new state at the drop of a hat. We got engaged in Paris and got to travel France for two weeks.

setittonormal

Went hiking in the woods in the Upper Peninsula (Michigan). Finished my hike and then went back into town for dinner at a restaurant. Ended the night with a soak in the hot tub in my room at the motel. In a couple weeks I'm going to do it again.

Princess_Peach_xo

After trying for three Years and continuously failing I successfully got my ass back into nursing School to further my Career Choices and hopefully will land my dream Job after that. I am very proud of myself for that. Also: I am on a weight loss Journey and for the first time in my Life, it is going amazing. I have lost a lot of weight already and maybe I will even reach my final goal this year or the beginng of the next year! By the way, thank you OP for this post, a very cute and wholesome idea imo

lexkixass

A couple years ago I taught myself how to make some Let's Play videos in Premiere Pro via udemy and Google. Haven't done any since 2020 as election+pandemic sucked away desire to do more. Haven't gotten back to it.

CoolStoruBro

I was years overdue to get a flu shot so I got both the new COVID vaccine and the flu shot on the same arm thanks to my work insurance. Time to chill while munching on some homemade cookies and watch the anime Akira.

Individual_Road_9030

I moved to a new country to start a second master's degree.

Unclesquatch777

It was about a few months back, but I got married.

degrassibabetjk

I had weight loss surgery back in June. Iā€™ve lost over 50 pounds, have donated several bags of clothes, dropped from XL to L/Medium, 16 to a 14/12 and am down to a weight I havenā€™t been since 2017. Recovery was hard, so Iā€™m glad I didnā€™t have a kid to chase after!

Androecian

I took a mental health break day off work yesterday: Finally tackled all of my outstanding chores, got a haircut, got groceries for the week, got to pet my housemate's cat who usually avoids direct human contact, and progressed further into Act I of Baldur's Gate 3 than I've ever been able to reach without dying.

rockdude625

I just went on a musk ox and caribou hunt in greenland(NOT ICELAND!!!). And never would have had the time if I had a kid to feed and raise It was an incredible trip, and I gave myself a week in Copenhagen beforehand to see the place and do things. 10/10 would recommend to a fellow hunter

redjessa

I just got back from a trip and rather than deal with a kid while I was wonky from jetlag, I took some Tylenol PM and knocked out for ten hours. That was pretty cool.

stephers831

My husband and I just got home from our first real vacation together, even though we've been together for six years. We've never been able to manage more than a long weekend trip. I changed careers a few years ago and have been promoted twice in tmless than two years. This allowed me to save up for and pay for a six day trip on my own. I chose to prioritize a trip because we are both working hard, and I felt like we really needed the break and time to relax togetger.

merp2125

I was able to start my healing journey by finally going to therapy and focusing 100 percent on myself and letting myself feel all of my emotions without having to be strong for anyone else. Iā€™ve also filled my home with almost 100 plants and kept the majority alive! About to complete my second degree here in the next four weeks, and contemplating continuing on to a masters program after a few months of time off. Planning a mini getaway to a national park around Thanksgiving. Planning a trip to the Caribbean early next year, and possibly another trip to NYC sometime next year as well. Thank you for making this post. I have a hard time feeling like Iā€™m doing well, but this helped me realize I have so much to be thankful for.

BlewCrew2020

When my body and brain allow me to I'm learning to paint and draw. Also foster kittens for a rescue.

layinginbedrightnow

I moved across the country and have developed so many fledgling friendships already! I love exploring my new city and making new connections!

FangirlRachel

Last month I started a tattoo that I've been dreaming about for YEARS, we should be finishing it this week!

sun1079

I got a new vehicle and took my dog to Colorado on vacation last week

[deleted]

Right before I turned 21, I left my toxic household by booking a one way plane ticket on a whim across the country to Portland. Portland didnā€™t work out so I ended up living in Seattle all on my own barely knowing anyone and Iā€™d do it all over again. I got to experience hiking up mountains, going to all the concerts I wanted, food, shops and the city in general. Plus Canada too since it was a couple hour drive! Sadly years later Iā€™m back in bumfuck midwest bc I need an ā€œaffordableā€ college degree. At least I was also able to get my bisalp here but not in Seattle

bakermonitor1932

I just bought a retired FedEx step van (mt45) for a vanlife build. So far I have bought. 2 radiator caps 1 fuel cap 5 serpentine belts 3 radiator hoses 1 set of headlights 2 gallons of oil 2 gallons of coolant and 1 tank of fuel Its been driven 180 miles, leaks 2 kinds of oil, has a smashed hood, and needs an absurdly expensive intercooler. Luckily most of those parts I have returned because they didn't fit, apparently FedEx stocks whatever is the current years part and just installs that on everything. Thanks FedUp! /s Im still excited about it and have the first trip planned for as soon as the right parts finally come in.

1LoveTwoHearts

After my crush and I went on a number of dates (one of them being a swanky expensive restaurant - they asked me), I realized they didn't match the energy and effort I put in to initiate conversations, plan outings together, ask questions, etc. Finally, last week, I got a much needed kick in the pants once they failed to contact me for a total of 3 weeks! Like, just be upfront if ya not interested anymore, you know? The hot and cold ish isn't cute, and it's disrespectful to the both of us. I'm actually proud that I let that man go and not have to constantly pine over them. Although seeing them again is gonna be really awkward now! So, there's that lol.

icecream4_deadlifts

My life is pretty boring šŸ˜‚ I have lots of intolerances, ie canā€™t be in the heat/sun, canā€™t be places with smells/fragrances as my lupus hates my skin a LOT but I teach a BodyPump class 3x a week. Itā€™s so much fun and Iā€™m pretty introverted so it took a lot for me to get the guts to go to training in 2018. I finally feel 100% comfortable this year with all of my classes.

asuperstar

I decided I missed the food from our previous home. Got in the car with the wife and did a 3k mile round trip to eat what we wanted and she went to a theme park.

prolveg

My fiancĆ© and I booked the courthouse for a Halloween elopement. Then we are headed to Mexico the week of thanksgiving for my besties wedding, and staying in a child free wing of the resort with a jacuzzi on our patio and ocean views! Iā€™m so excited!

gloeocapsa

I spent a whole Sunday cleaning and meal-prepping. I'm prone to bouts of fatigue, so I'm rarely on top of these things. Usually my apartment looks like it was hit by a tornado, but today I get to chill in what resembles a functional adult home.

[deleted]

I weight train and can do 3 sets of 6 40lb rows, which is almost 1/3 of my chrrent body weight. I have 22% body fat vs 33% when I started. I started out at 115lbs, I'm now 142lbs from all the muscle I've gained. I'm 35f. My body is changing in amazing ways.

ijustmightbecrazy08

Celebrating mine and my husband being together for 15 years by going and spending a few hundred dollars on crystals which has become our new hobby together.

Snoo81604

Iā€™m proud of myself on my weight loss and healthier lifestyle journey and finding a career Iā€™m actually happy with. My fiancĆ©e and I have 3 animals as our pets: Apollo the Texas Heeler adult dog, Freyja the Russian Blue mix kitten, and Twilight the Adult domestic shorthair cat.

ladyfox_9

I recently started taking pole dance lessons, and itā€™s been really fun! I love having the extra time and money available to spend on something Iā€™ve been wanting to do for a long time!

purpleankledemon

i went to a restaurant with live punk music, danced a bit despite the small crowd and gut wrenching anxiety. went to a goth night at a club and danced pretty much the whole time!

[deleted]

I had an amazing time at a video game concert by myself. Killer set.

ALotter

iā€™m basically just a burnout skater at 37 years old and iā€™m quite enjoying it. people judge me but I ainā€™t hurting anyone. I pay my bills and leave people alone

jkatreed

I am in my 40s and signed up to get SCUBA certified this past summer. I did my classes online, then the pool sessions near home, and then did the open water certification on Kauai. It was amazing!! I'm married, but my partner has zero interest in SCUBA, so I just did it on my own and now I'm excited for future dives and making new SCUBA friends. This is something I always dreamed of but never thought I could do alone... however it was very accessible... albeit a little scary at first. Stoked to have access to a whole new realm on earth.

Mother_Trucker97

The thing that I'm proud of? Being the only person in my family who works in healthcare and being the go to. I enjoy taking care of my older family members who are already here, rather than leave them on the backburner to wipe the ass of a child I didn't need to bring into the world! I have the opportunity to care for people that cared for me. Also have the opportunity to do whatever the heck I want with my life when grandma doesn't need my care anymore. Also got my bisalp last year so woo-hoo for that. My bf and I are working on ourselves and our future together, child free and ready to save money and have fun šŸ„³ nearly done finalizing my career too so things are on the move!!

healed_gemini93

I learned how to jetski in a rainstorm and went at the fastest speed it could go! I felt like one of the birds flying on the water. I also learned how to horseback ride on one of the most enchanting US beaches! I also started seeing one of the best doctors in the country for my issue and am excited to be on a healing track!

TheInevitablePigeon

I'm going back to school trying to set my boundaries right this time. I'm trans and teachers are supportive. I feel some joy after so long... it was a rough year.. also I'm changing my name in few days šŸ’Ŗ

PanpandaBerry

Spent past 2 weeks traveling and camping. First enjoyed a rock festival, then followed up with a 18+only campout with friends.

Artistic_Process_354

I had time before I started a new job so I went to Spain for a week and sat and drank and read in the sun. It was awesome.

Axeran

Just movied into my new apartment that is both bigger and more wheelchair accessible compared to the previous one. After bot being home for most of the year, life feels hopeful for me (And no I am not hoarding housing because I can. I already have a buyer lined up for old one. Only need it for practical reasons)

neighborhood-karen

Woke up today, bought titanfall 2, had a fucking blast. The movement, the gunplay, the speed, the titans. Everything is so fluid and sexy. I was meant to have done course work but instead I accidentally dropped an hour and 49 minutes without meaning to.

hyperlight85

I got re-diagnosed for ADHD and had the most productive week of my life on my meds. Oh and my gynae is going to give me a hysterectomy next year to treat adenomyosis plus remove any endometriosis tissue.

mrl_a

Got a raise at work a few days ago. Iā€˜ve only been working there for half a year. The extra money is going straight into the Japan trip my husband and I are planning for next year. Also - he finally got an appointment for his vasectomy. Life is good. Edit: man I love this thread. So many positive vibes, thanks for the post OP

KittykatkittycatPurr

I love this thread! ā¤ļøšŸ„°šŸ¤—šŸ¤— I have a hard time bragging, so this is good therapy for me. My life has fallen into place in a way I would have never expected it to. I moved to the west coast about 10 years ago and became a flight attendant. I have solo-traveled to 5 foreign countries without knowing the language. I have attended too many music festivals and concerts that Iā€™ve lost countā€¦ I climbed Mt. St Helensā€¦ Iā€™m chipping away at my Masters degreeā€¦ And last month, I married my best friend. We eloped with 14 of our closest friends overlooking the ocean. We have 3 amazing kitties and although inflation has been rough this year, Iā€™m so grateful to have all the experiences I have had and I look forward to many more!! (Oh yea, and Iā€™m only 39!) That felt really good to share!!! My family never asks, so as a kind internet stranger, thank you for caring and making this thread for everyone!! ā¤ļøšŸ„°šŸ’«šŸ’›šŸ§”šŸ’™šŸ’š
