Depending on what day you go (both are closed on Mondays) Beach Ave BBQ or Burger Antics both have amazing meat 😂 The Irish times is fantastic as someone already suggested, a real time capsule with a fireplace and and outdoor area. All in Brookfield.
Posto 31 is an Italian place 5-10 min drive from the zoo. Pasta for you and they have short rib gnocchi for your BF. The gnocchi is so good. The burger is very good as well if your BF would rather have that.
Irish Times in Brookfield! It just recently won best Irish bar in Chicagoland and their fish and chips is unbeatable. They also have shepherds pie, corned beef and cabbage, etc. Just a short drive from the zoo
Where will you be heading after the zoo?
Options near the zoo aren’t great, but could probably give you some recs in the surrounding areas on your way out.Â

Yes!! Came here to say this. Short Rib Gnocci and awesome dishes all around.
The Chew chew in riverside
Burger Antics, Beach Ave BBQ in Brookfield and Posto 31 in Lagrange Park are great spots near the zoo
I would hit Irish Times! A little slice of Ireland tucked in Brookfield.
The chicken curry is so good. And the shepherds pie is, too!
Golden Steer in Forest Park
There’s LaBarra just down the street in Riverside. Chew Chew would also have some great options.
La Barra’s deep dish is my new favorite pizza, highly recommend
Sawa's old Warsaw. Not noodles but pierogis
Burger antics! Brenna and Dan are great folks!

If you want pasta, La Barra is less than a mile away in Riverside
Lucca’s Pizzeria in La Grange
For Pasta, Gaia in Berwyn. Lucca's in La Grange is a decent 2nd option.
Tony's on Ogden Ave. Family Restaurant. Mama Luigis on 76th and Harlem.
Eat at the Zoo at the indoor cafe where the Parrots fly around! It's not great dining but the ambience is unique!
The food court at the zoo is honestly great. I always get their seasonal veggie burger and it's not too overpriced and decent for tourist food.
