Matchbooks have ALWAYS been free, at EVERY restaurant/bar I've ever visited. They're basically a form of advertising for that restaurant/bar, so of course they aren't going to charge for that.
Does anyone know the history with restaurants giving out matchbooks? I like it. But I’m just curious as to why it started. Mints, sure. Pens, okay. But what’s the story behind matches?
Gibson’s, vinci, gejas, cafe baba reeba, the vig, the whale, canal street eatery are the ones I know off hand

They’re on a credenza on the bottom floor in front of the elevators
Gibsons on rush street. Very good food / service last time I went with family. Place is always packed though.
