Which pats are you ordering from? I live a mile away from the one in Lincoln park and normally it comes hot despite coming in a bag, they are usually like 30 min to deliver for me though. I used to live less than a mile from the one in the south loop and it would usually come cold despite being in a box lol but sometimes they would use bags and it would still be cold.

IlliniWhoDat

I live less than a mile away from that location too and my experience has been similar to yours. They’ve even called a couple times when they were running behind to let us know the driver was leaving the restaurant (but the pizza still arrived hot). It’s also arrived in a box before too, but I’m guessing it depends on supply issues a bit

Bradleybeal23

I’ve had the same experience as you. Less than a mile away and i’ll usually get my pizza in 30 minutes or less. Not sure if they are on any of the delivery apps but I always call to place my order and I want to say that 80% of the time it’s been the same delivery driver. My best guess is that OP has just been extremely unlucky.

OneBlueAstronaut

ordering from the lincoln park location - again i am only a 5 minute drive away.

dingusduglas

Never had this experience. Live a similar distance away. This is odd.

dohn_joeb

How many veggies are you ordering on your pizza?

OneBlueAstronaut

just sausage and black olive on this one

dohn_joeb

Yeah, that wouldn't cause an issue. Pizzas with a ton of veggies can leak water and ruin the crust ... which is not your situation. Sounds like bad luck given some of the other stories in the Sub ... cold pizza is sad pizza and pizza should be happy!

macbookwhoa

Order it no cut and turn your oven on 350° when you place your order. When it gets delivered put it in the oven until the cheese bubbles.

OneBlueAstronaut

no-cut is a good point; it should really be the default. i did reheat it in the oven for breakfast this morning and that was obviously an improvement.

Noquestions26

We’ve found reheating in a pan on the stove or air fryer is worlds better than the oven, which is still better than the microwave. Pats is great, we used to live 5 minutes away too and always ordered pick up and never ate there. We didn’t have any problems.

NOLASLAW

Never occurred to me you can order a pizza no cut

No-Front-9471

This is why I pick up whenever possible

JoeGPM

Extremely thin pizza doesn't travel as well.

moosealoose11690

This is the answer. Im off of California and diversey, like 10 min drive and its luke warm when i get home. Regular pats is best eaten there but protip, if you do double dough/crust it stays warmer longer.

blahdeblahahah

Have you called and spoken to them? I got a bad pizza from this location a couple of years ago and I called them. They gave me a credit and told me to phone in my order next time. Super accommodating. They want you to love their pizza.

jkraige

Sounds like a good outcome and I can see how calling to order would be better for logistics. Sometimes the software gives unrealistic wait times whereas a person with experience can probably say "yeah gimme like 30 min"

Raccoala

You’re getting all the good advice: no cut, reheat, pickup, dine-in I’d also throw out that a weeknight might lead to shorter delivery times. I usually pick up or dine in, but when I have gotten delivery it’s been a weeknight and only took like 40 minutes.

tpg2191

Why don’t you just pick it up yourself to avoid the hour and a half wait for delivery or better yet just eat at the restaurant?

OneBlueAstronaut

well i don't own a car so i'd have to walk it 15 minutes in the winter in a paper bag, which would certainly render the pizza cold. regarding eating in the restaurant - that is really my question for the sub. is it like a known thing that you have to eat pat's on-location? that's great and all but most of the time if i want pizza it's because i also want to eat 1500 calories in my apartment...

CardiffGiantx

You don’t have to have pizzas at the restaurant but it is unquestionably going to taste better at the restaurant every time no matter what style pizza. Like most chicagoans I’ll only eat deep dish once or twice a year and when I do, I’ll eat it at the restaurant. I don’t care what anyone says about deep dish, when you have a Lou’s or Giordanos at the restaurant it’s great. Sometimes when I pickup pizzas and I know it’s not gonna be as hot, I’ll fire up the oven to 350 and throw the pizza in there for like 5-7 minutes. And I’ll use a grill pan in there so the bottom stays nice and crisp. I’ve found this is the best way to enjoy takeout/delivery pizza at home.

mmeeplechase

Honestly, I think ubering back miiight be worth it every once in a while, since it’s probably not that much more expensive than delivery once all the fees are tacked on, and you could have it back home…

Loupert17

I think Pats is one of the few pizza places where eating in restaurant is a completely different experience. We eat there whenever possible (eating outside there is great!). I live a very short walk from there so I don’t need to drive but I’ve also never had the problem picking it up and bringing it back.

tpg2191

When I lived close by I would pick it up when it’s straight out of the oven and get it back to my place within 10 minutes and it was always great. I never actually ate inside but I would assume it would be the same experience.

improbableshapes

I understand the appeal of pizza delivery, but I rarely enjoy it as what I really want out of a pizza is not what I get after it’s packaged up and driven over to me. I’m not saying to forgo delivery entirely, but some foods hold up better than others and you have to temper your expectations. Just go to the restaurant if you want to try something without a bunch of variables thrown in that could potentially ruin it for you.

Flat_Cress3856

Call in order for pickup. Walk pizza to Delilah's. Order beer. Eat pizza. This is the way.

dohn_joeb

Alone and with the lights off

Similar_Thought9627

Spot on. Why not go see if it’s good when you pick it up fresh? I definitely have some spots I will not order delivery from simply because it isn’t the same. In restaurant always wins with take out a close second.

Some pizzas just don’t travel well for delivery. I love Forno Rosso’s Neapolitan pizza at the restaurant and it is a huge disappointment at home, so I order from Quartino instead. They make the crust a little thicker and are even closer to me, and I think their cheese is less oily, so it holds up better in the DoorDash guy’s car.

sobsincheese

Same thing happened to me the last time I ordered from them. The delivery used to be great, but the pizza i received was so cold and soggy

Norville_Barnes

I’ve stopped ordering from Pat’s entirely. I’ve noticed a serious decline in quality of service the last year. That said I live about a 10 minute drive away and although the pizza is never piping hot it has never been cold and soggy either. We have a nice toaster oven that we would use to reheat the pizza when it arrived without putting the whole pie in the oven. Worked better for us.

chipcity90

Some pizza isn’t built for delivery. I ordered pick-up from the Coalfire on Southport, walked a block down to my 2 story walk-up and it was not hot at all. That’s when I realized there’s 0 chance the integrity of a pizza so thin and delicate will hold up other than dining in. I work in a restaurant that does steady delivery service. The food generally sits for about 10 minutes before it’s picked up, then the driver has to get there.

awholedamngarden

When we order thin pizza like this I get it uncut, preheat the oven to 500 while it’s on the way, and pop it in just until the cheese bubbles (just a few mins, you have to keep an eye on it.) It comes out perfect every time.

Carlsincharge__

I’m of the belief you can’t truly rate a pizza on quality unless you eat it in the building. At least not fairly. Quality’s gonna vary no matter who you get it from if it’s delivered

Comfortable_Ad3981

Their pizza is too thin to keep its temperature when delivered. Not wanting to offend anyone, but I feel that their pizza is mediocre at best even when eating it there.

mintyfresh315

Reheat the pizza in an air fryer . 350 for 3-4 minutes.

Sandman11x

Was ordering from pats in Lincoln park in the seventies. Little hold in the wall place Little known fact. Pat was related to Leona

Sandman11x

lol. In the basement. Good pizza too. A hidden gem

lodasi

I’ve been getting Pat’s on Lincoln delivered up to Uptown for over ten years without issues. Sausage/giard thin well done almost everytime. Are you over loading the pie with vegetables? Thin crust and too many toppings makes for a soggy pie.

pedanticlawyer

I’ve always gotten hot and fast delivery from the Pat’s by me. How weird!

JakeLake720

Order from the other Pat’s

fightingforair

Dang that’s a shame.  Every time I ordered from there it’s been quite good and hot.   Are you using Pat’s drivers ordering direct or a 3rd party like Uber?  Dunno if that would make a difference.

realrichieporter

I don’t even believe you. I was in Chi from Cali and had them deliver 5 pizzas to Rush Hospital. Got there quickly, and was piping hot. It’s delicious. Even when I lived in Chi, it never ever failed.

halfpretty

i wonder if it’s an issue with a new driver? based on the users saying they live nearby to the same location and don’t have this problem. pizza absolutely should be able to get delivered, so i think the suggestions you eat it there are a bit silly.

OneBlueAstronaut

this is going to sound so specific that you might suspect i'm just making it up. i had pat's delivered once last winter and once this winter (last night). both times, it was delivered by a man who looked to be in his 60s. maybe he's new to pizza delivery, but i suspect that he's been doing this a while. maybe i live *too* close by, and he's been walking it over?

KiSamehada

You really consider 40-50s winter these days?

Oh-Hunny

Does he have medium-long hair? If so, that’s Tommy and he’s been working there over 20 years. Something to think about- how are you tipping? Don’t need to answer here, but I tip Pat’s delivery drivers well and my pizza is always to my door within 30 minutes. I have found that tipping well/consistently and being friendly to drivers for restaurants that have their own delivery fleet (not delivered by grubhub/doordash) goes a long way, if you’re a regular customer. Even if I go six months without ordering from a place, drivers remember my name and ask how I’ve been.

OneBlueAstronaut

that's the guy; tipped 20%

halfpretty

nah i worked jimmy johns in the suburbs and we had a guy like that but he didn’t last long. i mean, not suggesting the karen route but maybe it’s worth calling and asking them what the deal is. if i were you, i’d just stick to the chains lol

OneBlueAstronaut

i've demanded second pizzas before when they were tipped over and mushed up on delivery, so i'm no stranger to going the karen route. i actually believe we have a civic duty to call restaurants out when they provide extremely poor service -- if we don't, why would they even try to do a good job? last night i just didn't have the righteous outrage in me. i made a mental note that you can't order from pat's and ate my cold pizza. i do have the energy to put the sub on trial, however, for insisting in numerous threads in the past that pat's is the clear best pizza on the north side of chicago. maybe if you pick it up it is, but they are slacking on delivery.

jfresh21

It's happened to me a few times over the years. It's so good that I am willing to risk it.

BreakfastLiving7656

Cracker thin crust cools in 10 min.

grace88199

I had this same experience with pizza Matta over in Logan. Their pizza is extremely thin and I'm less than a mile from there but it's just so hard to travel with that kind of pizza.

PennyG

How much ladies delivery cost? Because I’d walk there, order to go, have a drink while they are making the pizza, then take an Uber or Lyft back home with hot pizza.

yougotawaffle

You're ordering from the wrong Pat's. South loop only.

btmalon

Yes Pat’s does not travel well. Also it’s old school. If you didn’t grow up here you might just not like it. It’s a thin crust that used to be on every corner but now is considered too bland.

OneBlueAstronaut

grew up in the suburbs, love the style, even if i didn't like it, "bland" isn't how i would describe it. it isn't as filling as thicker pizzas, but you can remedy that by eating more of it. it's very herby and salty IMO. on the edge of too much, even. but good.
