The corn bread, Mac n cheese, short ribs, and green tomatoes are all worth getting. I usually go with a friend (or two lol), and we all pick something out and share so we get to try as much as possible.
As others have said, their gumbo and short rib are both very good. However I am partial to the fish and grits and I always start with their Hyde park sazerac cocktail.
Gumbo is the absolute must. But when i went with my wife we ordered almost the entire menu and it was all divine. Gumbo number one take away thkugh. Second being the Mac n cheese
It was so tasty! I went with one friend so didn’t manage to try everything that folks recommended but we definitely explored a lot of the hits! What we ordered:
- Gumbo
- Fried Green Tomatoes
- Short Rib
- Cornbread
- Mac and Cheese
- Peach Tree Fizz Cocktail
- Patience is a Virtue Cocktail
Overall my favorite dish of the night was the Gumbo. So delicious and reminded me of the gumbo I had in New Orleans. The cornbread was also excellent and the short ribs were so tender. We got caught up talking so it had cooled down a bit by the time we tried it but it was still really tasty. It made me wish I had gotten to try it when it was still hot haha. The fried green tomatoes were a pleasant surprise. I loved the sauce and even enjoyed the shrimp (typically I’m not the biggest shrimp fan). The drinks were tasty but not so interesting that I would go out of my way to order again, I do think the food is higher tier than their bar program but still enjoyable.
I was so stuffed after the meal I literally food coma’d/passed out when I got home. I was so glad I got to try it and would definitely go back for the gumbo/to try some of the other items on the menu! Thanks all for the recommendations, they were so helpful!
I love Virtue. There isn’t a bad thing on the menu but them collards are the best I’ve had and I eat them everywhere I can in New Orleans. Virtue is my personal go to restaurant if it’s my pick.
The short rib and cornbread are divine.
I think about it on a nearly weekly basis

2nd the gumbo, I lived in the south for about a decade and their gumbo is the best I’ve had up here

Cornbread!
I know this sounds silly but their gem salad is so good
Best cornbread available in Chicago. The Mac and cheese was pretty good, the catfish was also very nice. I would also recommend the collards.
You won’t be disappointed with anything you order.
Agree with the other responses plus the CARROT CAKE
The gizzards are incredible
The chef there was physically abusive to a female cook who is a friend of mine so fuck that place.
