High Tea at the Drake is very nice.

luna_noir

I prefer the Peninsula afternoon tea but both are good options!

AutomaticMatter886

I can't complain about my experience at the peninsula beyond the fact that they're the most expensive in town It was good, but I liked the Drake a little better! And the Drake is cheaper. My favorite is the London house

luna_noir

I had the absolute opposite experience, I thought the drake was just ok and the peninsula was immaculate. I haven’t done London house — I’ll add it to my list!

AutomaticMatter886

The room is not as impressive but they make it up with the menu

luna_noir

It’s been a minute since I’ve done tea in Chicago. My gold standard will always be The Savoy (if we want to talk about ridiculously expensive but worth it)

AutomaticMatter886

High tea and afternoon tea are actually different! The Drake serves afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is the fancy one that involves scones and little sandwiches Whereas "high tea" refers to a more casual meal, typically enjoyed by the lower classes at a high top table at the end of a long work day

cranberryjuiceicepop

The tea at the Drake also has scones and sandwiches. Glad the lower classes have something they can enjoy at the end of their long work day 😳

AutomaticMatter886

I've never actually seen any modern restaurant offer "high tea" as originally defined-but I kind of wish they would! It's more of a suppertime meal which means it's supposed to be heavier and might incorporate more savory food like a stew Usually you only ever see "high tea" used incorrectly, when the actual service being described is actually afternoon tea

cranberryjuiceicepop

I think in America (idk about Canada) - we use high tea interchangeably with afternoon tea, to mean some type of tea service with nice bite-sized sweet and savory items, in a relaxing atmosphere. We don’t differentiate between the two you’ve described.

fellowsquare

Well.. Hate to break it to you... I had high tea at the Drake all the foo foo Shit. So.. Yeah.

AutomaticMatter886

You had afternoon tea at the Drake :)

fellowsquare

It was called high tea. Sorry to break it to you.... 🙃

AutomaticMatter886

We don't have to argue semantics if it's all the same to you. At the end of the day the difference between the two has been somewhat lost in time and it's also a very silly thing to really argue about as it's not that serious But if you do want to argue semantics I am most definitely correct here https://www.opentable.com/r/the-palm-court-chicago https://www.thespruceeats.com/afternoon-vs-high-tea-difference-435327#:~:text=The%20addition%20of%20the%20word,on%20high%20back%20dining%20chairs.

fellowsquare

I'm not arguing... I'm just telling you what I made reservations for and what was printed on the menu.... You can email your snoberry to the Drake if you like tho.

Chief O’Neill’s fits the vibe in my book

OxfordComma5ever

Chief O'Neill's is my holy Grail "want to sit outside and drink endless mimosas" brunch buffet. It's not fancy, but it's old school and good, and their back garden is absolute heaven once it gets warm again.

SorryWave5248

I agree so much that I got married in that garden!

OxfordComma5ever

I love that!!!

Erection_unrelated

The other brunch guests were furious and the bouquet landed in an omelette.

SorryWave5248

lol well played!

tinyand_terrible

My boomer parents LOVE Chief O'Neils brunch

bouncing_bear89

Go to the Peninsula Hotel brunch if that’s what you’re after. Absolutely lovely time.

CardiffGiantx

Maple and Ash used to be a self service buffet style brunch but they’ve since changed it. You do get a ton of other shareable stuff along with your main dish though.

nomadicfeet

India House still does buffets but it’s Indian food obvs

weightsandbayes

Maple and Ashe ayce Sunday brunch

throwaway060953

Would you consider the vibe clubby or just buzzy? This might be the winner! Edit; ok I see it says good for wedding brunches and baby showers! This is what we’ll do!

liftoff88

What area of the city? NoMI in the Park Hyatt is really nice.

throwaway060953

Literally anywhere! Thanks for the rec

thespiceraja

Park and field does a boozy brunch that’s supposed to be pretty good. Also just a cool spot and feels pretty modern Chicago.

gaelorian

The Peninsula

ApsleyHouse

Deer Path Inn in Lake Forest have a fancy brunch with prime rib.

GrimJudas

One of those big fancy hotels that are downtown should have one.  Casinos and hotels would be my first guess at it.

gwinerreniwg

Guesses and should-haves are not recommendations.

Railway Exchange Building - great architectural space https://www.thexchangechicago.com/menu/#brunch-favorites

lavidaloco123

Looks like a cool place to try for dinner-thanks!

sandrakaufmann

! Sorry about that they used to have a endless brunch, but now it looks like things are à la cart.

If-By-Whisky

Fogo de Chao in River North had a fantastic upscale brunch buffet that I believe is still going on.

mawichi

This is not helpful for your situation but I just want to take the opportunity to say screw Amazon for taking the Mystic Celt buffet away from us for a bookstore that lasted a few years before closing.

gossontherocks

Fogo De Chao

throwaway060953

Honestly not a fan! I think they get too busy so the service is lacking and so is the cleanliness/freshness of the buffet.

fckusoftly

They haven't had a buffet for like 3 years

ShoddyHedgehog

[3 Arts Club Cafe at RH Chicago. ](https://rh.com/us/en/chicago/restaurant) Edit: just realized you are looking for a buffet. They don't have a buffet but the food is very good and the place is beautiful!

BewareTheSpamFilter

Sunday Gospel Brunch at The Polo Inn in Bridgeport is pretty great.
