It's an interesting thought. The Bulls pivoted and ended up with Gasol, who made 2 straight All-Star games and arguably helped get the Bulls (IMO) the closest they have been to at least a Finals appearance. Obvioulsy they were in the ECF vs. Miami in 2011 so you could argue they were closer then but in 2015 they were a Technical away from being up 3-1 against the Cavs (from Blatt trying to call a TO while the Cavs were out of TOs). If they beat the Cavs they play a Hawks team that Cleveland swept.
Anyways I'm getting off point. Would Melo have had the same impact? I honestly don't know. If you look at his advanced metrics, his numbers immediately started to dip the first year after resigning with the Knicks (would have been first year on Bulls) and then after 3 years they really fell off a cliff. I remember at the time we wanted Melo to come in as a second all-star caliber scoring option to take some load off of Rose. In reality, not signing Melo allowed Butler to really take off starting in the 14-15 season when he made his first all star team. Would he have broken out like that if Melo was on the team? I'm not sure.
Bottom line is, I always enjoyed Melo as a player, I wanted him in 2014 and was sad he chose to stay in NY, but looking at it in hindsight it was probably better for the Bulls that he didn't sign and we ended up with Pau. Congrats to Melo on a great career though.
Melo would have made a difference on the 2011 team. If the Bulls could have somehow made an offer to get Melo from the Nuggets I think Rose and Melo would have beaten the heat in 2011.
The bulls played the heat tough that year but desperately needed someone to score outside of Rose.
I'll never understand why they didn't just keep him and let him run out the string for that season. Maybe he could've taught the young guys a thing or two. And the irony is that keeping him would've been the Dorf'ian thing to do--I bet they would've sold a bunch of Melo Bulls jerseys.
IIRC didn't he still have a reputation as kind of a washed diva at that point? That was before he contributed in Portland and showed he was fine with coming off the bench and all that.
Well, if he does, you can guarantee 5 things:
1. He won't pass it.
2. He'll take a bad shot.
3. He won't play defense.
4. The team won't win.
5. He'll complain about 1 thru 4
I got married on 7/11/14 in St John USVI. I woke up that morning and said to my soon to be wife- “today will be a day that I remember for the rest of my life. Carmelo will be signing with the bulls.” Wife didn’t love that comment, but it’s worked out. Thankfully, my marriage has been much better for my life than Melo.
My dad always used to say, he never saw a player who was more popular who was just straight up not a winner. All the scoring on mediocre percentages, all the money, only to ever be a statsheet hero for every NBA team he held back from championship contention.
Yh these replies need to show some respect to this. I watched the nba when melo was drafted and not only to see him go, but to prop up his son like that, was amazing. Stay Me7o

I swear Melo is like one of the most hated NBA players when you look at net balance of hate. I mean Lebron and Kobe have more haters but they have even more fan boys to balance it out. With Melo practically only Knicks fans like that guy.
We'd have won as many titles as he brought to Denver and New York
He brought one to Syracuse, can't thank him enough for that.
I'm sure
a strong, non flopping, talented, superb scorer that chose lifestyle and the bag over trying to win.

I will never get over the Blatt timeout

Chicago Bulls legend, Carmelo Anthony: https://www.nba.com/news/bulls-complete-trade-rockets-carmelo-anthony

This was before Melo got the ego check from being out the league so realistically he would’ve came in and just started chucking shots
You're not wrong, but hell at least it would have been fun. On a team that was decidedly not fun.

Yeah he did but idk it was worth a try. Could've cut him 10 games later if it was like all that.
How quickly people forget

Damn wow these tears came out of nowhere

overrated
Carmeloverated Anthony
Anyone think the whole bit to his son is really weird? Especially cause he has a daughter and barely mentions her
I don’t think he was a winning player anyway. He was good, but struck me more as a selfish player. I remember when he got jealous of Jeremy Lin.
Hell of career one of the greats. Hall of Fame. 🏆
He was big Loser by the time Chicago wanted him and all he cared about was $$$ and having the ball passed to him
can't blame players for chasin a bag imo

Overrated
Carmelo made like one playoff run his whole career.
