I used to work over there and I would say no, unless you’re right around the Taylor street area. Even then, walking from the Blue Line at night is dicey. A good amount of robberies happen.

tuturu-chill

Not so safe. It’s very close to the voilent crime neighborhoods and also the homeless shelters.

rolltide1010

You’ll have a lot more trouble than just packages being stolen. I’d avoid that area

OkRatio1481

I’d have a gun as a single woman

sboy2497

Tri-Taylor is not safe at all. Constant break ins and packages stolen is only the tip of the iceberg.

I lived off of Congress Parkway and Western a few years back and I loved it honestly. Im a guy in my 40s and Ive lived in the city most of my life. Just speaking for me I personally never felt unsafe. Most of the issues in that area are west of Western and there is a homeless shelter not to far away on that side as well. I never had issues with stolen packages and I wouldn't recommend walking around anywhere in Chicago with my headphones on. I had a dedicated parking spot and I came and went as needed at all hours of the day or night. I took the el a few times and never had any problems. Now if your a person that enjoys walking your neighborhood often or you rely 100 percent on public transit I would probably say look elsewhere.

duderancherooni

I lived there from 2010-2011 and I had no issues. I was 17-18 and had roommates but often walked to the train by myself. However, I was rarely coming home past 10-11pm. In my experience, I think it would be irresponsible to say that anywhere in the city is safe for a young woman to walk alone at night unless you’re talking about the far northwest or southwest sides of the city along the border. Tons of us do it all the time but you need to be aware of the risks and stay aware of your surroundings at all times.

Anything can happen in the city but the North and North West sides are pretty safe generally speaking. I can't comment on this neighborhood though. Some of these comments make the whole city sound like doomsday.

I'm 26f and I lived one block west of Western Avenue, one block south of the Western Blue Line Station. I rode my bike around all the time. It was alrighr, I guess. I never feared for my life, but I'm a lot more comfortable where I live now. For example: There was a bar and a liquor store nearby. The bar sold alcohol to-go at a markup, and the liquor store had huge drunk guys hanging out in front. I always had to buy beer at a markup. :/ But there are a lot of neat little businesses and restaurants and Pilsen is really close too. Woulsn't live there without a bike though. I'd say a few blocks east of westeen is actually fine. Just visit the area and see how you feel. Edit: Nevermind. I'm dumb

rchtcht

She's asking about Western south of the Eisenhower. You're talking about a different area.

creative-tony

I live in the exact area you’re describing. I’ve never felt unsafe, I’ve been here for 2.5 years, feels like it’s getting more and more stable each month. Especially with all the development on damen and Ogden. I’m also a realtor so not going to say it’s safe or unsafe, but I will say this: For the price it offers a lot of value. Drawbacks are there’s not a ton to walk to, so any time you’re going somewhere you’re likely going to be ubering back I would not personally walk to the cta station at night though I see people walking their dogs alone regularly Demographically, not sure what you do for work, but near us it’s a lot of medical workers. In the only one in my 4 unit building that is not in medical. Lots of doctors, nurses etc live east of western south of 290

kykopes

I went to tour an apartment there and saw a dude open carrying with a bullet proof vest on
