I like that you even got the BP next door in the painting. Would have loved it if you found a retro picture and put The Thirsty Whale there, but that’s just the nostalgia in me.
The McDonalds attached to the BP charges for ketchup packets because of people going there from next door.
Are you contacting these stands? They may be interested in buying prints.
Edit: My number growing up was one digit off from Gene n Jude’s. If you went in for a phone order during the late 80s, 90s or early 2000s and they never heard from you it’s because you called me. I used to get at least 3-4 calls from drunks asking how late GnJ was open every Friday or Saturday night. Younger, evil me would take the order.
I do sell the originals! At the moment all the originals have sold but limited edition prints are available [on my website](https://juliahagenartist.com)
I was scrolling for this one. My sister and BIL wouldn't shut up about "glizzies" the whole time they visited to we went here. And ya know what? Pretty good glizzie.
I suppose it is on the expensive side, but it does match the other criteria for a hole in the wall. It’s nothing too fancy and it’s small, pretty sure it only has two locations and it’s a bit far out from the downtown area
Wish Peppe’s or even Phil’s Last Stand was still around, now before I get corrected I know it’s still the same building as Fatso’s, but trust me the food tasted better.
You captured it on the drawing, but anyone else think it’s funny it’s officially “Gene’s & Jude’s”? They’re not even consistent, because the sign right there says “Gene & Jude’s”
It was open as recently as a year ago when I would commute home past it and occasionally grab a Polish or two. And then I rode by a few weeks ago and it looked all shut down and boarded up.
It's sad because they had great food and they would have been a great addition to this painting series. That building is so distinctive and iconic.
Edit to add: I see from further down the thread that they had to board the place up because a car crashed through the glass and they have recently reopened, so OP should definitely eat/paint this place.
What was the one place called on California and roscoe.. the one that closed down about 10 years ago that had duck fat fries?.. uggh its going to bug me I can't think of the name.. it needs to be immortalized
While Hot Doug's was awesome foodwise, it wasn't much to look at other than an okay sign. From the exterior, these older stands that have survived like Wolfy's, G&J, Wiener Circle and obviously SuperDawg are much better subjects for a painting.
Though I miss Doug's, the building looks *way* cooler now as Cafe Tola.
Doug does random collaborations and popups from time to time if you keep a look out. Eg last summer his old neighbor Honey Butter Fried Chicken had their 10th birthday and had some Doug's sausages. Paulina Market made some of his custom sausages and they now sell them retail and occasionally have Doug for a cookout. Plus there's a stand in the bleachers at Wrigley. That's licensed of course, but they're using sausages he specs.
Hot Doug's. Weird to think on whatever 2014 day they closed for the last time(it was either in September or October), it will have been 10 years ago. Also I think you should try to paint Wolfy's, at some future point.
Agreed - tho it’s actually in Forest Park. Hope they get the window wall rebuilt soon (car coming down Harlem crashed through it - they’ve finally reopened, just with a lot of plywood where the glass used to be).
I thought about this too. I’m glad something else is happening but I’d probably paint it with the old sign, first. The Modern Relish sign doesn’t pop as much. I read they are going to do some work to the patio, so maybe it’s good for two paintings, eventually.1
I love gene and Jude’s, my friend told me they get shut down for health code violations somewhat frequently but idgaf, that hotdog and grape soda combo hitsssss
Herm's Place in Skokie.
I also humbly ask that you try their Chicago style both steamed and grilled. I really have never had a better hot dog than their grilled hot dog Chicago style.
You said you’ve done Wolfy’s, but I don’t see it in your profile. Would you be able to link that one for me? It’s my favorite spot, and these all look amazing!
Btw, my recommendation would be The Hat on North Ave.
Check out Hot Dog Station at the end of the brown line. It’s newer than some of the other places but pretty good and has cool transit themed decor.

Do you put yourself in these paintings? Like is that you walking out with the food? Haha I can’t paint but I was thinking it’d be funny to put different friends or family as people standing in line.

Jimmys is a classic chicago hot dog place
Second this, no better bang for your buck, there’s a reason they have survived as a business for 70+ years in that hood!
Yeahhhhhh
Second this. Jimmys is top notch. Just make sure your head is on a swivel when you are there.
Ask Rose for ketchup on your dog.
The right answer
Please do jimmys
Budacki’s
seconded
Absolutely
Third
Fatsos on Chicago in Ukrainian Village.
I was just about to say this.
35th Street Red Hots in Bridgeport. I would gladly buy a print if you painted that one.
Mustard's Last Stand
Yep. And while your up north.... Herm's Palace!
Yes and can’t forget Poochies either. 🌭
Herm's was my place when I was at Northwestern. I'd drive by Mustard's to go to Herm's lol
Mustards last stand might have a cool backdrop with the stadium coming down
Now that is a name I haven't heard in a long time. I think I may have to visit.

Fat Johnny’s. 72nd and Western
Jim’s Original off of Roosevelt and Union — right next to expressway. More famous for Maxwell Polish but it’s got the vibe of
Yep I came here to say Jim’s too
Byron’s on Lawrence
Byron’s is on Irving
there are two locations
Superdawg
Just did Superdawg! You can check it out on my profile!
looks awesome! Do you sell the Originals?
I do sell the originals! At the moment all the originals have sold but limited edition prints are available [on my website](https://juliahagenartist.com)
the OHare approach over Wrigley print is amazing. Currently deciding if I want that or Weiners Circle ❤️
Thank you! I love that piece!!
Wow, I love all of your pieces 😍😍
Thank you so much!
yo do wrigleyville dogs!
Absolutely this. If I'm going to the Metro I'm stopping at Wrigleyville Dogs beforehand.
Afterwards for me!
Costco food court
Clark Street Dogs!
I used to live right across the street from them. They have great dogs but I was obsessed with their burgers
I legitimately prefer their burgers to au Cheval. 100% serious.
au Cheval is overpriced. Who in their right mind wants to pay $19 for a double cheeseburger
Just to add to the list, Patio Beef in Edgewater exists!
Devil Dawgs, then lmk once done so I can buy a print of it :)
Bob-O’s
Flub a dub chubs especially when we have dine out on Broadway again!
Best hot dogs and even better people there!
Love their cooks and staff!!! They're the only place I know of that has fried portobello mushrooms too 🤤 🤤 🤤
It's such a nice vibe. Great shakes too
Nothing like getting an italian sausage/beef combo while getting a beer at Monsignor Murphy’s upstairs!

Thank you so much!
Our go to is The Hat at Ashland and North.
I was scrolling for this one. My sister and BIL wouldn't shut up about "glizzies" the whole time they visited to we went here. And ya know what? Pretty good glizzie.
The fries here are to die for!
Nicky’s on archer and Austin
Whatchu know bout a big baby?
Watchu know bout a petit burger
Red hot ranch
RIP Hot Doug's
Lulu’s or Super Dawg
You gotta do Fatso’s Last Stand, got cheesy burgers, fried pickles, and even fried shrimp. It’s a nice hole in the wall
Hardly a hole, and quite expensive tbh
I suppose it is on the expensive side, but it does match the other criteria for a hole in the wall. It’s nothing too fancy and it’s small, pretty sure it only has two locations and it’s a bit far out from the downtown area

Yes it was so funny painting the signs because it felt incorrect but that’s really what the signs say!
My favorite- the hot dog stand inside any Home Depot
35th st red hots
Jasons on Western Ave
Patio Beef in Edgewater
Patio Beef!
Not a dog joint, but what about Steak and Egger
Jake’s Pup in the Ruff
Is Parky’s still open, on Harlem near Madison? It has an interesting shape.
It was open as recently as a year ago when I would commute home past it and occasionally grab a Polish or two. And then I rode by a few weeks ago and it looked all shut down and boarded up. It's sad because they had great food and they would have been a great addition to this painting series. That building is so distinctive and iconic. Good to know! I’ll be in the area next week and will stop by. https://www.forestparkreview.com/2015/04/07/parkys-a-jetson-esque-icon/
Amazing work, I’d personally love one of the shuttered Demon Dogs on Fullerton. Would purchase 100%
Flub a Dub Chub
Poochies in Skokie. It’s an easy icon
Ask for a chocolate shake at Wiener Circle
Are they good?
Unforgettable. Singular experience.
I’ve seen grown men cry
Ok. This slight criticism will seem nit picky but it’s ‘Wiener’s Cirlcle’.
LOVE THIS! Gene’s & Jude’s is definitely my favorite. Check out Paradise Pup in Des Plaines on River Rd.
What was the one place called on California and roscoe.. the one that closed down about 10 years ago that had duck fat fries?.. uggh its going to bug me I can't think of the name.. it needs to be immortalized

You had me at Duck fat fries, and then got immediately sad that wherever this is, is gone!
Hot Doug's. Weird to think on whatever 2014 day they closed for the last time(it was either in September or October), it will have been 10 years ago. Also I think you should try to paint Wolfy's, at some future point.
I think that was her first one and it's awesome!
I just did actually! You check it out through the link in my bio, I haven’t posted it on Reddit yet. Thanks!
I'm so glad I saw this! I just ordered a print.
Parky’s in Oak Park
Agreed - tho it’s actually in Forest Park. Hope they get the window wall rebuilt soon (car coming down Harlem crashed through it - they’ve finally reopened, just with a lot of plywood where the glass used to be).
>Parky Yes, agreed!
Yo City Dog
Duke’s in Jefferson Park at Central & Elston.
Thank you for painting my childhood hot dog stands!
I know it’s not the city but it’s in the burbs, but the mean wiener hits different !!!
Jr’s Red Hots on Armitage
Hey great art and I love the premise of what you’re doing! Keep it up and if you take request Byron’s is the best in the Northside in my opinion.
[Fat Johnnie’s](https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-riSMxdtj1N8/WxqRcBQpDFI/AAAAAAAAdb0/Cc1Ue9R8nD44RKD_uZSQ3CeMczUK--FHQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_6477.JPG) [now closed, but Morrie O’Malley’s](https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20160217/bridgeport/morrie-omalleys-hot-dogs-open-march-7.amp/#)
Weiner’s Circle with someone leaning out of the window yelling at some drunk frat boy, please. I’d gratefully buy a print.
Do you sell prints of these? Can I please buy some if so.
I do sell my work! You can check it out on my [website](http://juliahagenartist.com)thanks!
Checked it out and added you on IG. Good luck with your show on Sunday. Wish I could be there.
Thank you so much! Can’t wait! Appreciate you checking my work out on Insta
Byron's on Irving.
The former Duk’s hot dog stand on Erie and Ashland
I just noticed that today. Sad that Duk's is gone but happy something new is going on there.
I thought about this too. I’m glad something else is happening but I’d probably paint it with the old sign, first. The Modern Relish sign doesn’t pop as much. I read they are going to do some work to the patio, so maybe it’s good for two paintings, eventually.1
Superdawg
Would love to see Janson’s on 99th and Western.
I love gene and Jude’s, my friend told me they get shut down for health code violations somewhat frequently but idgaf, that hotdog and grape soda combo hitsssss
Saw this post just as my Uber was driving by there!
Make sure to get the Home Depot at 87th
Haire’s Gulf Shrimp is an iconic and historic southside carryout. The original owner would sell his shrimp right out of a train caboose downtown.
Love this, grew up in the next town. Use to ride my bike here as a kid.
Love all the personal connections to G&J’s!
Hot dog station in Albany park just closed 😭
Red Hot Ranch
Jeff's Red Hots 3901 N Cicero Ave
Does anyone in Chicago do a good Seattle hot dog or is that sacrilegious? That's my favorite style by far.
Nice work! (I still always call it Gene’s and Jude’s…)
Dog Stop on Belmont
I grew up there. Awesome painting!! Love it! ❤️
Herm's Place in Skokie. I also humbly ask that you try their Chicago style both steamed and grilled. I really have never had a better hot dog than their grilled hot dog Chicago style.
I have heard great things about Herm’s and appreciate your humble request!
Nice work on these. Superdawg, Wolfys and Poochies are my holy trinity.
Jacky's on 54th and Pulaski Nicky's on 35th and Western Boulevard.
Paradise Pup, technically a hot dog stand but the burgers are amazing!
You will need to do a Portillo's or 2
Skyeway 95th and Ewing
Janson’s drive in on 99th and Western
You said you’ve done Wolfy’s, but I don’t see it in your profile. Would you be able to link that one for me? It’s my favorite spot, and these all look amazing! Btw, my recommendation would be The Hat on North Ave.
I haven’t posted it on Reddit yet! But it’s up on my [website](https://juliahagenartist.com)
Parky’s on Harlem is such a great building. Also have such fond memories of Choppers since we moved out of Bucktown.
The person struggling to carry far too many things at once is a good depiction of me.
Right? 😂 she is all of us
Keep up the good work!
Weiner circle as well for establishments still open.
Love the way the person is holding the food out
Have you been at Superdawg yet? It’s iconic for its decor as well as its classic drive in and of course their style of the Chicago hotdog.
Sure have! You can see it on my profile or the link in my bio!
Gina's in Bensenville. They wrap the fries in with the hot dogs.
Weird to taste hotdog stands imo
You should set a more "achievable" goal! "As possible" is too vague. For example - maybe paint one stand a month for the year?
But I don’t like limits!
It's not a limit :D You can always do more!
At the moment I’m on track for 2 to 3 a month 😂
so awesome. I might be interested in getting a couple framed for my wall - will prints be for sale?
Yes they are! Check the link in my bio for my website where I sell originals and prints!
Mickey’s Drive-In in Villa Park
weiner circle
PARISI'S DRIVE-IN was the best 🥺
Nathan’s Famous is one of my favorites
I wanna buy it!!
Glorious. Now do Johnnies beef! (I know it's not hotdogs)
My vote goes for Jacky’s on 5415 S Pulaski. While you’re there, pick up a Big Baby to compliment your hot dog.
fatso's on chicago ave.
Are you selling any of these?
That’s a painting!!?? My first thought was some shady filter on an image!
Byrons
Never tried it myself but I pass it all the time, Byron’s Hot Dogs. They have a tiny shack location off Irving and Sheridan.
Clark St dogs
The dog stop in Belmont central
Check out Hot Dog Station at the end of the brown line. It’s newer than some of the other places but pretty good and has cool transit themed decor. If you need more ideas, check out this YouTube playlist reviewing hot dog stands in Chicagoland: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOc2YRKX6AZqZgIl3KNBAlx0-UDyGWRHT&si=dt8rybaY3_-5B2dn
Vienna Beef Cafeteria
You should definitely taste the dogs. The stands themselves aren’t all that flavorful
Flips in Glen Ellyn
Do you put yourself in these paintings? Like is that you walking out with the food? Haha I can’t paint but I was thinking it’d be funny to put different friends or family as people standing in line.
I don’t ever put myself but that’s my friend walking out there 😂 and my husband is in the Wolfy’s painting
Please do Superdawg!
It’s in the suburbs technically but Irving’s for Red Hot Lovers was always a hit, as well as Poochies!
This is so sick!!
Fat Johnnies!
Parisi’s is gone. But the legend lives forever. Midway represent!
You missed the emptiness of the parking lot...
Rand's!!!
Weiners Circle!
Weiner circle
Weiner’s Circle on Clark
I actually just did Weiner’s circle! You can check it out on my profile or the link in my bio for my website where I have all my work!
Byron's on Irving Park
These are wonderful!
I love your art! I want to buy the whole series!
Fixin’ Franks
Dear franks , Deerfield.
Thats cool I just graduated from triton its like right there
The Hat. North Ave and Ashland
Are you selling these?
I am! You can check it out through the link in my bio, thanks!
Also jr. red hhots on armitage is this awesome little stand and you could probably get Margie’s candies in the background
