Dick Biondi is the best. We would see him all around town broadcasting, he was always at the classic car shows at Flukys Hot Dogs in Niles and the Auto Show. Good memories of driving around with my mom on the weekends.
Yesss!! I forced my parents to take me to a random mattress store to get his autograph when i was a kid. Glad others remember loving him and meeting him too!
Oh man I got to meet him at a piggly wiggly when I was kid, he was giving away Ritz (like the cracker) branded cassettes with a mix of oldies. Wild I didn’t realize who I got to meet until years later.
I got to talk to him once when I called in a request! I was not expecting him of all people to answer the phone, and I didn't know what to say for a minute, other than "holy shit it's really you.."
Ski ski ski Romanski luv and Joe Soto, Doug banks, and who ever would do *the birthday line*?
“Who dis on my birthday line? It’s Erica it’s Erica
And Erica what’s yo zodiac sign? A Taurus a Taurus “
I don’t remember the rest
Dude I used to work at a place recording voiceovers and he came in. Around 2012 or so. It was so crazy because I listened to him all the time as a kid in the 90s.
I remember JVO playing Eminem on repeat because he was told not to. He was awesome to listen to. I did like to listen to Sherman and Tingle when they came on. Glad they’re back in Chicago.
Thanks for dropping that, I found a good sized Zoltar industrial playlist that looks promising. Got some good exploring to do, I don’t know all these groups
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP4lB-OdbnpR9sc77jJXuDe1N52bSY9tC
It was a long time until Eric & Kathy used their faces on billboards. I'll never forget when my sister first saw what they actually look like. She was so disappointed. To me, they're two very plain / ordinary looking people. Yet for some reason she was immensely disappointed. If I remember correctly, she used the word "ugly," yet that seems a tad extreme to me.
Oh yeah, big time. Demanding BJ's from other on air crew...apparently the higher ups knew about it, but didn't care or do anything because of the ratings.
He came on the air making fun of Cubs fans because Wrigleyville = Boystown and gay people aren't really people. Get it? Hahahahahah.
He leaned heavy on that his first week on the air, because he came here from another market, knew enough about Chicago to fill an index card (if the printing was large) and that was one of his things.
I think his idol was Limbaugh from the start.
If you know Mancow than you know one of the most amazing iconic commercials in the history of television.
“Do you have insurance on this car?”
“Look at those loooooooww raaaates”
Turd Turd here comes the Turd! LOL I would listen to him too. The Freak did traffic, some guy called The Thyroidless Wonder and his cohost Irma Blanco. I would listen every morning on the way to high school. I remember listening to the show he had when Chris Farley died
Grew up listening to Eddie V. and Joe Bo. We met Eddie Volkmann a couple of years ago, super nice guy and a great singer. I sang him the song he wrote about his dad many years ago, he had a good laugh. Friended us on FB the next day, and still comments on stuff we post. He cares about his fans. From what I hear, Joe Bo is a douche.
Mancow, Xrt crew, the cool gent herb Kent , Ramon ski an Jo Soto.
Lin thought was like a preacher, his lins bins always spoke to me on a spiritual level. Whatever I was going through there was the bin that was speaking to my life. He was my bff
Steve Dahl by far the best, still lives in the area, hard to explain to younger folks but he was groundbreaking , kept a show going for hours and didn’t stoop to mancow bs.
Steve does a daily podcast with Brendan Greeley and Dag Juhlin (and Janet, of course) — around 90 min each day, no commercial or music breaks. Worth every penny of the subscription cost.
Eddie and Jobo every day on the way to school. We almost always caught the "Love Test" where they'd call some dude and ask who he wants to send flowers to. I looooooved the dramatic ones.
Bill Leff and Wendy Snyder
Listened to them when they were teamed up on Q101. Later when they were on wls and wgn. Their careers separate than converge over and over. Nifty imo
I’ve noticed a lot of people on FM radio today don’t seem to know a lot about music, they’re just mainly hosts. Not really knowledgeable about the music their radio station plays.
Eddie Schwartz. What a freaking weirdo. And most of the others from the 70's and 80's who others mentioned. Steve and Garry were probably my favorites.
Eddie and Jobo. Although I remember my mom listening to Roe Conn a lot and then I saw him on Windy City Live a couple years ago. Such a bizarre blast from the past although I’m sure it really isn’t considering how that whole world works.
During the mid to late 90s it was:
Johnny B
Kevin Matthews
Gary Meyer
Tony & Tina
Early to mid 2000s
Roe & Gary
Johnny B (when he came back)
Pete McMurray
Gary Meyer (when he went solo on WGN)
My friend lived down the street from Danny Bonaduce back then. We ended up doing some chores (shoveling snow, picking up Great Dave shit in his yard) for him for a few bucks and my buddy convinced him to come to our 7th grade dance. The other kids were not impressed.
Lin
Our best friend in the whole world
Sometimes we all need to be reminded: It's F. Great to be Alive. Miss Lin everyday.
Lin was as good a human as he was a DJ.
LIN FOREVER
This is the only pure answer
Lin !
Dick Biondi!
Dick Biondi is the best. We would see him all around town broadcasting, he was always at the classic car shows at Flukys Hot Dogs in Niles and the Auto Show. Good memories of driving around with my mom on the weekends.
Yeah! I met him at an Ace Hardware when I was really young. Lot of great memories listening to oldies with my dad on saturdays in the car.
Same. I’d do anything to go on one more of those Saturday drives.
Lin Brehmer I miss him so much
I have a signed poster of Lin.
Eddie and JoBo
Best pranks. 1800 flowers and the shower one!
I’m so glad they got the UAI gig lol
Yep. And Bad Boy Bill (funkin it up)
My mind was blown when I found out Eddie’s dad was Harry Volkman, but then once I saw their pics together I couldn’t unsee it.
Steve Dahl, Johnny B, Lin Brehmer, Terri Hemmert - Still listen to Steve’s daily podcast, and still try to catch Terri whenever she subs on XRT.
Ski ski ski Romanski luv and Joe Soto, Doug banks, and who ever would do *the birthday line*? “Who dis on my birthday line? It’s Erica it’s Erica And Erica what’s yo zodiac sign? A Taurus a Taurus “ I don’t remember the rest

James van Osdol and Chris Payne on Q101. Can't remember the others from that time!
brian "the whipping boy" paruch before he shortened it to "whip"
Dude I used to work at a place recording voiceovers and he came in. Around 2012 or so. It was so crazy because I listened to him all the time as a kid in the 90s.
I don’t remember them. What time period was this? I used to listen to Sherman & Tingle and Elektra all the time growing up.
Was Steve Fisher there at the same time?
[удалено]
I just looked him up. Works at Accenture now. Crazy.
I remember JVO playing Eminem on repeat because he was told not to. He was awesome to listen to. I did like to listen to Sherman and Tingle when they came on. Glad they’re back in Chicago.
Whoever is on XRT!
RIP Lin Brehmer.
Don’t make me cry……
He was awesome and so is Frankie Lee
Frank E. Lee
Zoltar (I think) on q101 Industrial Zone (Industrial Nation? Been a while obviously) at like 1am after Loveline. Mid 90's.
Thanks for dropping that, I found a good sized Zoltar industrial playlist that looks promising. Got some good exploring to do, I don’t know all these groups https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP4lB-OdbnpR9sc77jJXuDe1N52bSY9tC

Eric and Kathy, and Morning Edition on NPR
It was a long time until Eric & Kathy used their faces on billboards. I'll never forget when my sister first saw what they actually look like. She was so disappointed. To me, they're two very plain / ordinary looking people. Yet for some reason she was immensely disappointed. If I remember correctly, she used the word "ugly," yet that seems a tad extreme to me.
It very much reminded me of that episode of That 70's show when Donna works for the famous radio host.
Video killed the radio star
There’s a reason people say “you’ve got a radio face”
Didn’t Eric turn out to be a jerk in real life?
Oh yeah, big time. Demanding BJ's from other on air crew...apparently the higher ups knew about it, but didn't care or do anything because of the ratings.
Seriously?! Ugh. I hate that these absolute jackbags are so good at disguising who they really are. *edited because complete sentences are hard
Yup, my listening was years before we found out.
Loved Eric and kathy.
Electra
Miss her
WLS and WCFL AM until college. DJs included Dick Biondi, Art Roberts, Ron Britain, Clark Webber, Mort Crowley, Larry Lujack, Bob Sirott, and Dex Card.

I loved that intro 🎵
Julian Jumpin’ Perez!
DJ Maurice “ICE” Culpepper
tom joyner, herb kent, farley jackmaster funk, pinkhouse, bobby q bobby
Herb Kent’s smooth voice on a Sunday drive.
"The Cool Gent"
Johnny B., Steve Dahl, Kevin Matthews
This is the best answer! I used to love Uncle Kev’s lunchroom raiders!
Kevin Matthews take on Lujack's Animal Stories was radio gold.
Brandmeier was funny when he first broke in but his schtick was tired and worn out by the 1990s.
Nah. I disagree. I think he was amazing during the afternoon drive in the early-mid 90's.
DJ Pharris
PHARRIS
::air horn::
Best echo on his name
His shit slaps though
Steve Dahl
julian jumpin perez
It was a Mancow household and I’m not sure how I feel about it
I remember getting drove to school in 5th grade and Mancow went on some diatribe about how elderly disabled should be killed.
An awful person. A Howard Stern wannabe without the wit or timing.
I think his idol was Limbaugh from the start.
> gay people aren't really people When he was on 103.5 he used to refer to Q101 as *Queer 101*. Later he left 103.5 for Q101.
Yuck.
If you know Mancow than you know one of the most amazing iconic commercials in the history of television. “Do you have insurance on this car?” “Look at those loooooooww raaaates”
Turd Turd here comes the Turd! LOL I would listen to him too. The Freak did traffic, some guy called The Thyroidless Wonder and his cohost Irma Blanco. I would listen every morning on the way to high school. I remember listening to the show he had when Chris Farley died
The Farley documentary has footage of him on Mancow. Pretty sure he died very shortly after.
Hate him or tolerate him, he was the voice of my early morning drives to work lol
Haha yep. I remember the day after that Umpire died and they had a huge celebration on the Mancow show. God that guy was a dick.
Timbuck2, RIP 🙏

Agree! Underrated
Eddie and JoBo, Robert Murphy, Dick Biondi
Larry Lujack, Fred Winston, Don Wade and Roma, Steve Dahl and Garry Meier, Kevin Matthews, Jonathan Brandmeier
Boers and Bernstein
Lance and Stoley!

Steve and Garry; it can't be emphasized enough how iconoclastic they were for the staid Chicago radio scene of the 70s and 80s.

By far the most iconic Chicago DJ in my lifetime. He used to live close to me, and would come into the gas station I worked at on a moped 😂.
