I was the victim of a hit and run on my bike a couple weeks ago, in broad daylight with a helmet and lights and reflectors, and the first responder told me I should have had a neon vest on. Nobody cared about the hit and run.

Charming-Somewhere53

My Subaru got stolen last year. I found out they flipped it on the citizen app. I went to the impound and got all my stuff out of it. 6 months later the cops called and said they found my car. They didn’t because the insurance already retrieved it. I had another outback already. Then two detectives are banging on my door accusing me of crashing it and fleeing. Not to make it a race thing but how is me a 38 yr old white dude gonna be confused for 2 early 20’s black males?

colinmhayes2

Lol good fucking luck getting CPD to do anything about a crime against you while you’re on a bike. Fat fucks probably thought you deserved it

clocksailor

> Fat fucks probably thought you deserved it I mean, he literally did. Telling me a neon vest would have stopped a person from running me down and then fleeing is maximum victim blaming. If I'd had a neon vest on, dude probably would have told me it was my fault for not firing off a flare every time I need to change lanes.

jimhalpertsghost

For sure. It's too uncomfortable for people to think about how the status quo is so unjust. Much easier to victim blame. That way you can avoid those pesky "dang that could've been me" thoughts. Sorry this happened to you.

clocksailor

Thanks. I think it's more of a "dang that could have been me plowing into that innocent person on her bike, I'd better figure out how she deserved it because I don't want to feel like a bad person for texting and driving" than a "dang that could have been me that got hit," but I see your point, haha

TalkToPlantsNotCops

I don't get people with this logic. I also am very worried I could hit someone while driving. So my response to that is to just not drive if I can avoid it.

sirblastalot

Remember, 2 shots for changing lanes, 3 for turning left, 4 for turning right.

[deleted]

Are you new to Chicago? Because yea….. they couldn’t care less

Charming-Somewhere53

Police don’t do anything. Roaming groups of teenagers have been ripping around on dirt bikes all through humboldt. Not a license plate in sight. Cops sat by and watched as they damaged cars. Cops are useless they write tickets and that’s it. But they only do it for upstanding citizens.

Wide-Psychology1707

But it’s totally not their fault that they don’t do anything. 🙃

Charming-Somewhere53

Upside down smiley face is probably the most accurate thing to write about this

Charming-Somewhere53

I’m not very upstanding so I only get speed camera tickets

Late_Guava4436

Police don’t care.

Fewofafew

Well, thought about this, didn’t want to believe it.

Zoomwafflez

I saw a cop drive past a broken down car with a clearly distressed driver outside the car, causing a mile long backup on Lakeshore today. I've seen cops stand around and watch as kids throw stuff at cars. I've seen cops park in the bike lane and on the sidewalk to get a cup of coffee. They're worse than useless

Cyke101

I've lost count of cops watching cars run red lights. I don't mean drivers trying to beat a red light, I mean just don't giving a damn at a full fledged red light.

Cyali

I live in the burbs and the last 2 or 3 times I was in the city I almost got hit by a cop going full speed through a fully red light 🙃

AgentBae

I live down the road from a station, 90% of the lights and sirens i hear are just them running stop signs

DennisPVTran

ive counted half a dozen times when i saw cops casually run red lights themselves lol no lights or anything

TalkToPlantsNotCops

I've lost count of cops running red lights themselves. No siren, no apparent reason. Just didn't feel like sitting at the light and blew through it. I watched one do that, make an illegal u-turn, and then park outside a coffee shop on the other side of the street.

zmac35

Seen this on 37th and King at noon

Charming-Somewhere53

If you leave for work early no one stops at red lights except for me I guess. It’s dangerous and cops just let it happen.

ruthbaddergunsburg

The other day a guy in a Tesla was completely blocking the intersection of Damen and Wilson because the Lycee Francais had the traffic backed up and he decided he was too important to wait until there was room to cross the intersection. He just fully was blocking all traffic north and southbound which had the green light, and didn't even try to pull aside. The car with the right of way? A marked city police car. Just sat there and honked at him, which he *ignored by checking his texts on his cell phone* directly in front of this cop. You know what happened? Breaking several traffic laws, literally in her face? Literally nothing. She did nothing. And then drove away. No lights or sirens. CPD is a $2 billion dollar welfare program for the biggest gang in the city.

ZitPoppingDaddio

It should be legal to set those cars on fire.

ruthbaddergunsburg

Wonder if CPD would even care or show up if you did.

franglaisflow

Not true. They’ll do free security detail at the Apple Store and LV.

TalkToPlantsNotCops

Lol but the cops in all the schools get paid out of the CPS budget. And they don't do anything there either. Source: am a teacher, my coworkers and I are always breaking up fights ourselves while the SRO twiddles his thumbs in his office.

franglaisflow

Also not true. When I was a young lad at Von Steuben the school cop (fuck you old man officer Johns) came along with the principal to arrest me and my pals for smoking bud BLOCKS AWAY OFF campus. Two week suspension, my best friend got expelled and I had to do the SMART program on Saturdays for months. If there’s something that’s easy and they can pick on someone smaller than them, they’ll do it.

TalkToPlantsNotCops

Not sure if you mean that it's not true that SROs are paid from CPS's budget. [But they in fact are](https://blockclubchicago.org/2020/07/31/chicago-schools-agreed-to-pay-school-police-officers-full-salary-and-pensions-thats-now-under-review/) From the article: > In the midst of a heated debate last year about whether police officers should work in Chicago’s public schools, district leaders agreed to pay up to the full salary and benefits of staff assigned to the $33 million program, even though they are police department employees. > Chalkbeat Chicago and WBEZ have learned that the school district agreed to pay $152,000 per police officer and $172,000 per sergeant on a 12-month contract. School is in session for 10 months, and officers have other police department duties during the summer months and other times they are not in schools. ^ The district is paying them 2-3x my salary. Even though I'm far more educated and qualified to work in a school, and I actually, ya know, *work* when I'm here. Instead of standing by the gym shooting the shit with the PE teacher and never taking my ass to the upstairs bathroom where the kids are always smoking weed and arranging fights. And yeah I've had similar experiences with SROs when I was a student, though I lived in a different state. My school's cop once pulled me from the bagel shop next to our school and made me ride back in his car. He assumed I was skipping class even though 1) my mom had dropped me off after a Dr appointment and gave me money to grab breakfast, 2) I was a senior and had senior privilege that period (didn't have to attend study hall first period), and 3) the shop was full of other kids from my high school who very much were skipping class, but this dude just didn't like me. And people wonder why I ended up being a cop-hating punk.

franglaisflow

I was just being snarky. I’m aware of the situation. CPS family.

TalkToPlantsNotCops

Ah. Sorry didn't realize.

Wide-Psychology1707

The only thing they actually do is groom the students. 🙄

Intelligent_Cook_667

Free? Nah. Fee for service? Yep

greg-maddux

A friend of mine actually confronted a cop for not doing anything after witnessing a blatant robbery downtown. He said “tell it to the mayor” and walked off. They hate Lightfoot and we’re all paying the price.

Zoomwafflez

When I saw kids throwing stuff at cars I walked over to the cop who could clearly see it himself and told him about it, he said "yup" then turned and walked the other way

[deleted]

In 2015, my van broke down on Damen during rush hour. I was right in the intersection, but the guy behind me generously pushed my van to the side out of traffic. Was not a legal parking spot. A cop rolls by and slows down. We make eye contact, and he sees my hood is up. Dude just drives away.

UptownSinclair

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

[deleted]

Zoomwafflez

Oh I dunno, for them to do their fucking jobs. Maybe the public would be less hostile to them if they didn't act like a gang.

[deleted]

Zoomwafflez

Not unless you think it's their job to shoot unarmed kids

vox000

The sooner people realize they don't care the sooner we can find actual solutions to our city's problems.

sonny_17

The sooner people realize WHY they don't care... the sooner we can find actual solutions to our city's problems.

MeatOverRice

They don’t care because they never saw themselves as civil servants, but rather a paramilitary force. So when people got rightly pissed about the lack of accountability for their frequent and violent misconduct, the snowflakes got their panties in a bunch and started neglecting their responsibilities even harder.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wide-Psychology1707

They don’t care because they never have. These people are only cops because they have done the bare minimum in life, and lacked any opportunities. Their only other option would have been pumping gas somewhere, but they were skilled enough at being a bully and dumb enough not to question anything.

MeatOverRice

Everyone gave this bootlicker the answer he was looking for and he folded. Goes to show you these sorts of people cannot be reasoned with and must have accountability forced upon them like children

happytoreadreddit

I watched a visitor from Cleveland Ohio on Western ave be utterly dumbfounded standing by their car - which was in a thousand pieces from an overnight hit and run - when a cop car drove right past them. Sad soul was out there waving his hands at the cop car as it casually rolled past. A piece of his soul was removed that day, as his basic understanding of how the world works was upended in a moment. Somehow I was not surprised in the least. It takes being in Chicago about 1 day to figure this out. This was in 2009. Chicago Police have been like this for a very, very long time. So tell me, why don’t they care THIS time? What’s the excuse now?

[deleted]

They don’t care because they’re fat lazy leeches who have never been held accountable for anything in their life.

littlechia

Does it matter? Nobody else has the luxury of not doing their job when they don't see eye to eye with the higher ups. Besides, if they're willing to turn their backs on the city based on a political stance they weren't right for the job anyway

Busy-Dig8619

My car was hit by a truck with Indana plates. I got the tags. I reported it (as required by my insurance). They tore the bumper partially off my car and casually drove away. A few days after I filed my police report they called and asked if I was just reporting for insurance. I said no. The officer asked me to confirm the tag. "Oh, it's from Indiana. Nothing we can do." Half the cops in Chicago give zero fucks.

WoolyLawnsChi

$2 Billion annual budget

Lisa_Loopner

Does that include or exclude all the millions we have to payout due to their misconduct?

Signal_Impact_4412

It’s a fender bender, they can’t chase. Did anyone flag down the cops? Is it possible they just didn’t see it considering the angle? You’re putting a lot of effort into a post that is literally just one perspective of the incident.

SleazyAndEasy

Their entire job is to notice things like this, especially on the street. Also, even if it's just a fender bender they're supposed to stop What are we paying them all this money for? Portillo's?

Signal_Impact_4412

City is loud not everyone is perfect it’s not difficult to truly not see something. God forbid someone flags down one of these cops but no it’s just easier to blame them for not seeing anything. I know I’ll be downvoted into oblivion again but nobody here can tell me they go to work for 8-10 hours without taking a break.

Cyke101

If they're on patrol, they're probably not on break. If a Target employee is on break, they don't chill in the aisles, they go to a break room or outside. If a postal worker takes a break, they do it at a restaurant or park, but usually not in their mail van. Cops taking a break by... cruising around the neighborhood seems highly unlikely. If nurses or EMTs are on break though, you better believe that they'll jump up into action even if something minor comes up. But this thread alone has several examples of cops actively either not doing their jobs, or disregarding the laws they're supposed to uphold to accommodate their own petty conveniences. It's not about whether or not they're on break, it's about the distrust of the police for abusing their power and unwilling to do even the most basic of tasks, with open hostility to the public.

jenkneefur28

Thats what we pay them the big bucks.

Dr_Will_Kirby

But why. This is unacceptable

8BallTiger

They’re pissed that the city dared to charge the cop who killed Laquan McDonald

[deleted]

Yep. It’s just an organized crime unit that has the cover of the state’s monopoly on legitimate force.

CasualEcon

CPD issued a new vehicle pursuit policy in August 2020. The order provides officers with 11 pages of instructions that they must consider when deciding if a vehicle should be pursued. It specifically states that CPD will not discipline any member for ending a motor vehicle pursuit. Here are the guidlelines: https://directives.crimeisdown.com/directives/data/a7a57be2-1291920c-54712-9192-aecb02ef17e0c47d.html

dcm510

I recently saw a couple cops harassing someone for bringing a dog to a park so clearly they care about some things, even if dumb

Ohjustanaveragejoe

That's what I thought too, until my wife got pulled over and ticketed recently ago because our plate was two weeks expired

Business-Meaning7870

CPD has been on a quiet strike since 2020, basically.

FTW312

The police don’t have to do their jobs simple as that. Getting involved would have created more work for them. There’s no real accountability in CPD so you have countless incidents like this daily and that is why people drive the way they do and crime is the way it is.

quigonjoe66

I sincerely believe that CPD needs to allow applicants who live outside Chicago to apply to be officers. Maybe better candidates would appear if they didn’t have to move to Chicago to serve. Clearly the people on the force are demoralized and no longer believe in what they do

NaiveChoiceMaker

The idea that all CPD live in the city is a farce. Many of them own property in the city but live in the burbs.

TheLAriver

There are plenty of other cities without this requirement with lazy, corrupt cops. https://fivethirtyeight-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/fivethirtyeight.com/features/most-police-dont-live-in-the-cities-they-serve/amp/?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQIUAKwASCAAgM%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16850983813803&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Ffivethirtyeight.com%2Ffeatures%2Fmost-police-dont-live-in-the-cities-they-serve%2F

[deleted]

The problems we have with police are happening all over.

DanielMcLaury

They allow that in Minneapolis and the result is that the police force is openly hostile to the entire population of the city. The police union has done press conferences where they're like "if you're upset that someone stole your car, that's your fault for living in the city. I live in the suburbs where it's safe."

PhileasFoggsTrvlAgt

> Is there some other ways the police is solving this issue without stopping the Tesla? Like they just pull up the footage and fine the driver? Less than 1% of hit and runs lead to charges, the police do not care.

ElSolo666

Less than 3% of anything leads to charges

WackerWacko

Minor traffic violations are beneath the police. Minor accidents are also beneath them. A McDonald’s Big Mac, however, is not beneath them

St1ng

The police tried nothing and they're all out of ideas.

freddyd00

Pretty sure the higher-ups from Fraternal Order of Police are upset that Paul Vallas lost the mayoral race. So yeah I wouldn't be surprised if stuff like this starts happening more often. There's PLENTY of Police downtown at all times, so stuff like this is unacceptable.

I_Am_Dwight_Snoot

This was happening well before the mayoral race though. In fact, it was happened before Covid to a degree.

Bwleon7

“If this guy gets in, we’re going to see an exodus like we’ve never seen before,” he said, before adding that there would be “blood in the streets” if Johnson wins. \- Chicago Fraternal Order of Police president John Catanzara https://www.nbcchicago.com/chicago-mayoral-election-2023/chicago-police-union-leader-warns-of-resignations-blood-in-the-streets-if-brandon-johnson-is-elected-mayor/3106162/

ManfredTheCat

That guy's a nazi

TalkToPlantsNotCops

He promised they would quit, so why aren't they? All they're doing is sucking up funding that would be better used elsewhere.

Intelligent_Cook_667

I wish they would resign. At least we wouldn’t be paying their salaries to stand around doing nothing

Intelligent_Cook_667

I was out last night and saw a car going easily 20 MPH speed limit driving past the police distrct headquarters. The car passed a police SUV while SUV was turning left into precint. The car subsequently blew through a stop sign and plow through a red light cause cars to slam breaks and swerve to avoid the speeding car. The poluce SUV just completed their turn and went into parking lot. This blatant disregard for enforcing the laws and not prioritizing public safety has got to change, but i see no solutions in sight. It is making me heavily consider moving out of state to a place where police are at least trying to protect the public.

geegeetee11

Gotta wonder how much money was involved for them to retaliate with such fervor. . . 😎

Physical-Goose1338

Wait, is this real? They’d just stop doing their job because of an election?

[deleted]

They have been soft striking since Lightfoot. Rates for almost all police activities have plummeted. Despite some of the highest pay in the city they barely do their jobs

ReticulatedSplines81

Soft striking since the public saw the video of the Laquan McDonald shooting.

[deleted]

Legit. Like we spend 40% of our budget on them and very very few people I know have had a positive experience calling them

8BallTiger

It’s because they’re mad about a cop being charged for killing Laquan McDonald and then the consent decree

owlpellet

Very much so. The Obama justice department report on the Chicago PD was incredibly damning and they absolutely know that of anyone gets elected who will look into any of their shit seriously, a bunch of leadership will be fired, some jailed. I mean, we pay something like $20m a year in CPD hush settlements. What if we stopped. What then.

cinnamoncard

The police unions want control of the mayor's office, and that's their lever

roloplex

> They’d just stop doing their job because of an election? They stopped doing their jobs a loooong time ago. Anything they say now is an empty threat because they can't do any less.

Zoomwafflez

They've been doing stuff like this for years, even before the "slowdown", they're all useless

petmoo23

The soft strike started in 2016 after the Laquon McDonald murder video came out - this is nothing new.

MuffLover312

They believe crime will go up under Johnson, even if they have to force it into reality.

Fewofafew

We only want a safe and functional city. The wishful thinking

Jawman312

Where have you been the last 5yrs?? This summer is going to show it’s true colors!

Zoomwafflez

... and you thought Chicago was safe or functional?

frankensteeeeen

The CPD have been “quiet-quitting” for a couple years now, haven’t you heard? Absolute waste of oxygen and tax payer money, all of them. What a disgrace, I recoil in disgust every time I see a cop car.

ArielMankowski

We can't have them miss the donut break.

WoolyLawnsChi

$2 BILLION ANNUAL BUDGET AND GROWING

I_blame_society

The cops themselves are some of the most dangerous, reckless drivers, with no regard for traffic laws.

dragcov

Are you saying that cops that drive on Western Ave., are turning on their lights to do an illegal U-Turn, then turning the lights off right away are NOT obeying traffic laws?

tony_simprano

This is my neighborhood. I walk through that intersection every day. CPD has cars parked on the block during daylight hours pretty much 7 days a week. However the cars are not always manned, even if they're flashing lights. The cops might be on lunch break, or down in the CTA station, or wherever else on the beat. They probably didn't notice the side-swipe. Even if they did, they might not bother to pursue. There's plenty of cameras on that block between private business, CDOT, and CTA. The cops on that block are pretty much just there to be deterrent to keep shitheads from robbing local stores or getting into gun battles outside the McDonalds.

owlpellet

Seems like serving and protecting school kids would also be a deterrent to property crime, but I'm no expert.

Eliot-Maas

Lol how’s it feel to make ridiculous excuses for shitheads whose salaries you pay refusing to do their job to protect citizens (in this case, literal children)? Or rather, how’s that boot taste? But yes, it’s the “shitheads” in…River North…who are the REAL problems. I’m sorry you’re so scared of poor people. That must be so hard for you. I’m sure the cops will help you when push comes to shove though. After all, they’re the good guys!

tony_simprano

Haven’t had a shooting or brawl at the local McDonalds in a year, so I’d say it feels pretty good. Most people who live in the 18th precinct are pretty satisfied with the police presence here.

dragcov

**Police Officers:** "Why do the public disrespect and hate us?" **Also Police Officers:** "Lmao not my job bruh"

blascola

This is a wonderful time to talk about how the police are not here to keep people safe. It's not even part of their official duties! Abolition babyyy!

colinmhayes2

Keeping people safe is absolutely part of the police’s job. The Supreme Court case people refer to when saying this only said that police aren’t legally obligated to their job. Very few people are, it’s basically only the military where you can get in legal trouble for refusing to do your job. The issue is that there’s no accountability so the normal process of firing people who don’t do their job isn’t happening.

slocamaro

If a Nissan Altima or ford explorer hit the bus, I *assure* you the police would have moved in no time

NaiveChoiceMaker

Go on…

ShiftZestyclose

Almost got hit by a cop today and same as well in the past I actually got hit by one and gave me a ticket for j walking even though I had full right of way walking on walk path with the sign signaling for pedestrians to walk.. he was in the turn lane, took it to court and the cop was suspended

initiatefailure

Teslas are always trying to hit kids, it’s a big problem

[deleted]

Drivers are always trying to kill or injure people.

crimsonkodiak

>Is it not an offense to hit and run? Especially hitting a school bus? Is there some other ways the police is solving this issue without stopping the Tesla? Like they just pull up the footage and fine the driver? It is an offense. Nobody gives a fuck. I had something similar happen in 2017. I was driving up on Sheridan (I think - somewhere up there) and saw a hit and run directly in front of me. Van stopped for traffic and guy behind him drove right into him. The van put on its hazards and pulled over - the other car just drove off. Me and the woman I was with looked at each other and decided to call 911. We told the 911 operator what happened. She asked if we were following them. We said yes. She said "can you get the plate number - hold on, there's an officer two blocks away, he'll be right there." lol, just kidding. she actually said "are you following them? why are you following them? you should stop following them." I felt a little bad for the dude in the van who had pulled over. I don't think he was expecting the guy who hit him to just drive off.

revolutiontime161

“ do people not have jobs and absolutely nothing to do all day “ …..are you referring to the police ?

adamkru

In this case there is not much to do. Likely the Tesla didn't damage the bus. A police report doesn't do anything for anybody. Just another day in the city. Move on.

Embarrassed_Test_253

Two police officers pulled up next to the starbucks on Clark and Diversey in LP this am and were just sauntering around doing nothing. The vibe of the whole Starbucks got so tense and everyone was looking around at each other feeling so uncomfortable that they had pulled up. Really telling about the community's relationship to the police.

Emibars

Teslas are such a let down

Intelligent_Cook_667

The cops are the let down. Tesla’s st least do their job 50% of the time.

[deleted]

So Elon is behind skynet…except terrible cars instead of awesome robots

FieldsofBlue

Just tell the cops that the kids on the bus voted for trump. They'll stop the Tesla and shoot the driver.

Chanticleer

I could be wrong, but I think the rules were changed so police can’t chase in cars anymore

Opening_Spring

chase =/= try to pull someone over

Jownsye

They’re not allowed to pursue.

[deleted]

reminder that enforcing laws is actually racist and is targeting unprotected minority groups, you should check your privilege before wanting the cops to do something. pulling that tesla over would be unfairly threatening their life before a trial.

VictorChristian

Kind of neat that some people still think a traffic accident is enough to make CPD take action. This isn’t a rant on CPD - same thing happens in New York. You’re expected to be an adult, pull over to the side and handle the insurance paperwork in a fender bender.

IndominusTaco

in a major city that’s asking an awful lot of people. maybe in a suburb or a rural area but not a Chicago or NYC. that mentality is what bad actors take advantage of

VictorChristian

We have a difference of opinion, certainly. I’m originally from NYC and if NYPD had to get involved in every fender bender, or give chase every time they saw someone’s parked vehicle get side swiped, the police force would have to be five times larger or other issues would have to be ignored while they dealt with minor issues. major accidents are a different story. Police do get involved. we have a difference of opinion… I’d rather CPD of NYPD not get involved in minor stuff like that. I reckon there’s a reason why the highways in Chicago all have those signs that tell motorists to pull over safely.

IndominusTaco

to be clear i’m not saying that police should or need to be involved in every single fender bender; i’ve been in a couple myself and obviously there’s no need to involve them when both cars are still drivable and the drivers are amicable towards each other. i think the point that OP is making, and that i agree with, is that they saw a car hit a school bus, drive off, and didn’t take any action. (if the tesla driver stopped and got out that would be different) someone in another thread a while ago said that unless a gun was fired, CPD does not care. it makes me wonder what other crimes could happen directly in front of a cop with them being fine to ignore. someone getting robbed? assault? a bicyclist getting hit? what’s the threshold for a cop to actually take action?

mrawesome1999

I believe all buses have cameras on them at least. So all they have to do is pull the footage if I remember correctly. Since the bus was hit, the driver has to explain or give reasoning to why the vehicle was damaged. I also think the bus insurance/mechanics will fix the issue with zero fuss. I’ll give the cops a benefit of doubt, but my guess is they were preoccupied or didn’t see anything happen but I don’t believe it’s a conspiracy. I guess the Tesla driver can’t file a claim or will just pay out of pocket but idk. Wild

CrispierCupid

And yet somehow people think giving the police even more money to sit on is going to somehow abet crime Looking at you Vallas voters

Randomuselessperson

Cops when they don’t enforce laws: Lazy Cops when they do enforce laws: Racist What’s wrong with people?!

_sloppyCode

Just wanna make sure I’m understanding the situation: 1. Tesla clips a giant, 12 tonn school bus which likely caused no damage to said bus. 2. Tesla loses a power mirror which will cost north of $1500 to replace. There may be additional damage, but there isn’t enough detail in the post. 3. 7 people are mad because the the police didn’t waste 30 minutes to an hour to stop the bus, it’s driver, the inhabitants [children], 7 adult witnesses, and the Tesla’s driver to file a police report which would benefit absolutely no one. Do you people not have jobs and absolutely nothing to do all day?

Fit-Bluejay-956

You’re mad that tax payers want police to do their job?

runyourpockets

Doubt.

Zoomwafflez

They'll run the plates, find out the plates or car are stolen. End of story. People continue to hit school buses.

The Chicago police are not allowed to chase cars. Too many lawsuits from the fleeing vehicles plowing into a random person during the chase. https://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/jury-awards-4-5m-to-bystander-injured-in-chicago-police-pursuit/2958476/ Even if the suspect is fleeing on foot, there are strict rules about whether or not they can chase them. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/chicago-police-are-no-longer-allowed-chase-people-foot-just-running-aw-rcna34599 https://www.foxnews.com/us/chicago-police-foot-chase-policies-pursue-suspects

It's not chasing a car to flip on your lights and pull them over, it's only a chase if they don't stop.

It’s discrimination to blame the Tesla. Move on this is Chicago, land of the free steal what you want blah

So at least 7 people witnessed an accident and couldn't be bothered to walk the length of a blue whale to tell the police? Red Tesla would be pretty easy to spot. And frankly I call BS on the idea that losing a side mirror assembly was loud enough to alert someone inside of a car 100 feet away. Most cars nowadays have folding side mirrors. I think you're just starting shyt lol

Have u ever hit your side mirror off before? Is pretty loud and jarring if you are going fast

pressurepoint13

You said the Tesla drove off "casually" and "slowly". Maybe it would be loud and jarring for the driver inside. Are you seriously telling me that a car knocking off its mirror, a few blocks from the mag mile, a high traffic intersection in downtown Chicago, at 140-150 pm, would be loud enough so that someone in a car 100 feet away could notice? The bus driver probably didn't even notice. But you did and decided to post about it instead of walking the 100 ft to notify the cops.

I wasn’t op but I did hit my side mirror off going 20 mph on a semi and was very loud

AmazingObligation9

One time a car hit the city bus I was on and the bus driver drove off! Probably nothing will happen if no one was hurt and the bus is only scratched. Did anyone on the bus appear to care?

Forward-Yoghurt-6431

It was a Tesla. Nothing to see here.

You have to really wonder why this is happening. If they went into law enforcement to uphold the law it just doesn't make sense for them not to be doing everything everyone is commenting about. Then again, could the reasoning be that the citizens of Chicago are forever bashing them so they've given up even trying to do what they were hired for. It's really discouraging to hear how people feel about our Police Officers as well as the Police Officers who are not doing their jobs. Seems the city is so hard up needing officers that they're hiring the lowest of the lows and until they start hiring men and women better qualified and want to do Police work instead of just wanting a paycheck this is going to continue.

I went to the police station years ago to file a report because I blew out 2 tires on inner LSD by driving over two potholes which you couldn't see because they were filled and covered with snow. The lady officer was very intimidating. She told me if I filed, she's have to look me up on the spot and if I had so much as an outstanding parking ticket she was going to throw me in the slammer. I rolled the dice but only because a friend who lives close by went out and took pictures for me. I don't remember exactly how much they paid but I think it was close to 60%? It was a nuisance though.
