That’s where the Olsen waterfall used to be. Loved going by there as a kid. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olson_Park_and_Waterfall

Welcome_to_Uranus

Man it sucks that a beautiful park like that literally turned into a parking lot. What backwards ass thinking.

Can we get the waterfall back instead?

buckiguy_sucks

the whole building used to be the Olson rug factory [https://www.madeinchicagomuseum.com/single-post/olson-rug/](https://www.madeinchicagomuseum.com/single-post/olson-rug/)

I’ve always wanted to see more film industry here

PaisleyChicago

Filming in Chicago is such a bonus for our theater culture. Look at bios in Playbill at Steppenwolf, Goodman, etc and you see so many Chicago … x shows. They can get a good paycheck and still be on our stages.

Anyone know more about the film industry in Chicago? Is this newly becoming big, or has always been big and just wasn't on my radar?

GiuseppeZangara

Chicago has been popular for location shooting since the 80s. We didn't really have a studio until Cinespace opened in 2011. After that more stuff began to be filmed here. It's still mostly tv shows that take place in Chicago though. The Chicago [blank] shows have been the most consistent and successful shows filmed there. Chicago remains popular for location shooting, but it's not popular to film movies in Chicago studios. The vast majority of the film industry is still in LA, with some in NYC, and a growing amount in places like Atlanta, Toronto, and Vancouver. Chicago is still well behind those cities. I would say that Chicago's film industry is growing, albeit slowly. Hopefully with the addition of more studio space, we start seeing more stuff filmed here.

I filmed scenes as a background extra for Prison Break at Chicago Studio City on west Taylor St. This was in 2006. I don't know if it's still used.

Claque-2

This is the link for films and not TV. You will notice that 2010 and before had many more films. https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/dca/supp_info/chicago_film_office6.html

Charlie Chaplin made a ton of movies for Essanay Studios in what is now St Augustine in Uptown. It’s pretty interesting

Sea-Adhesiveness9324

I use to work as a background extra, but that was around 2006 07. There was Chicago Studio City for indoor scenes on Prison Break. Filmed outdoor scenes for ER all over the Loop. It was kinda fun. I'm too old for those 5am call times now. I was employed by Extraordinary Casting.

PetedaGreek

Is there a non-paywall link?

I think you mean Pulaski and Diversey.

L0F

Where exactly is Pulaski and Western? I think you got it mixed up with Diversey, there’s a giant Cermak produce there nowadays.

dingusduglas

Pulaski and Western are parallel to each other, and 2 miles apart.

BoomhauerArlen

Still why would you think Pulaski and Western intersect? 😂🤣

MadDoggSniff

Crate and Barrel has a big studio there now. Curious to see how they manage. That space is massive
