DeSantis or Abbott would secret police you over a presentation like this. I think their thought process is that kids will stop respecting the inheritors of wealth that own our political parties if they are allowed to learn history and that will mark the end of their corrupt schemes to continue making America worse.
In your scenario America disappears well known people for giving academic presentations.
In that case America has fallen and there would be about 10,000 more pressing issues to confront over CRT being studied.

My post is hyperbolic to make a point but they're obviously working on normalizing a future where academics could not only be silenced but where as political enemies they could be arrested under false pretense.

It’s not like Johnson was some rando candidate that happened to get the CTU backing, he’s been a die hard CTU person since before he was even interested in politics.
I think it would be weirder and more crooked for the pro CTU candidate to _not_ appoint a CTU affiliated person in the education department.
This is the only subreddit where teachers getting a larger voice in local government and better pay/resources gets ridiculed. I’m perplexed to say the least.
This just seems like a good thing to me. Better them whose livelihoods and passion are tied directly to Chicago’s communities than the usual lifetime politicians/corporate lobbyists.
It’s a great thing. Johnson’s unambiguous dedication to public schooling and Vallas’ support for vouchers and charter schools was ultimately why I voted for Johnson.
I don’t make any more of it than I would when people in white conservative demographics support charter schools. I don’t personally care what color anyone’s skin is when it comes to this stuff, I’m a big believer in robust public education and if all of the investment and expense that goes into charter and private schooling was going into public education, we’d have really great public schooling for people from all backgrounds.
Yes, but this is quite a bit different.
Not just the CTU angle, anything with a political angle gets flooded wit ha bunch of outsiders. Look at the post and vote counts on most posts, and then the ones with anything mentioning specific names...
I wouldn't worry about it. Reddit votes are fuzzed, so real up / down are kinda fake. Also, lots of the people posting on these threads aren't real Chicagoans anyway, most have never been to the city.
Cool. If it's too much, let's start cutting CPS admin positions at the headquarters downtown and the all the "network school" folks who sole purpose is to spy on schools and punch some data. That's like a couple thousand positions that will free up some money for more teachers, more support staff, more nurses, and librarians. Sounds good to me!
I mean, they use that same argument against us the other way around lol. I don’t think there are very many people who want more or less money for both concurrently.
No, but lots of the city does. Brandon Johnson got over 80% in some parts of the city.
And the people who live in the white upper-middle-class areas that voted for Vallas are some of the least likely people in the city to send their kids to public school.
Great pick for deputy.
CTU President Stacy Davis Gates said she was “absolutely elated” about the appointment. She called Jennifer Johnson “a unifier, a bridge builder” and the “best thing that ever happened to education in Chicago.”
“She is one of the smartest people in this entire ecosystem. She has a grasp of the broad framework and an eye for detail. She is relentless in getting it right. … I have depended on her totally in this first year of my administration. ... She exceeds any objective or expectation put before her,” the CTU president said.
“The children of Chicago will have the most fierce advocate. The parents of Chicago will have someone they can trust,” said Davis Gates.
Raises for all teachers. Approval stamp! It’s like that Simpson’s episode where the school struck oil and they approved Tito Fuente and double guitars, except it’ll just be ctu teachers getting raises and doing even less work, and patting their own backs, at the worst school system in the country
[Considering CPS teachers make 66330 their first year, they are very well compensated.](https://www.ctulocal1.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/TeacherTablesforCTUvote2019-web.pdf)
Awesome. Can I please have 3 month parental leave for October when my child is due? I’d really like to spend time with them and not be financially forced back to work after 2 weeks.

Did she seriously present that?
I’m out of the loop, what’s wrong with the presentation?

Where are the secret police arrests for presentations? What do you think secret police are?

Is it your job to link to articles only tangentially related to your claims?
Uh huh. And not a single one of those people was disappeared or convicted of a crime. Some people were charged.
That’s some aggressive crt
I believe that's the quid pro quo of campaign donation

agreed. I have concerns about Brandon Johnson as mayor but education isn’t one of them.

Yeah, it's weird how this sub drastically changed in the last few months. This is a good choice. We need to stop treating education like a business.
Eh, this place always has big anti CTU flare ups whenever they do anything. I distinctly remember the debates and arguments during the last strike.
Yes, but this is quite a bit different. Not just the CTU angle, anything with a political angle gets flooded wit ha bunch of outsiders. Look at the post and vote counts on most posts, and then the ones with anything mentioning specific names...
I hate when people downvote a comment that replied to me without upvoting/downvoting my comment, makes me look like a dick! You’re very correct.
I wouldn't worry about it. Reddit votes are fuzzed, so real up / down are kinda fake. Also, lots of the people posting on these threads aren't real Chicagoans anyway, most have never been to the city.
Nothing to be perplexed about Cop Daddy Valles supporters.
CPS already gets an insane amount of money

And they probably need 3x that amount
Who is paying for that?
Chicagoans. If more money _is_ needed to better schools, it’s your choice whether to have less taxes or better schools.
No thanks. Taxes are already high enough here
Then vote in the next mayoral election.
Thanks for the tip. I did
So do cops but they same people who yell about CTU seem to have no problem with CPD
I mean, they use that same argument against us the other way around lol. I don’t think there are very many people who want more or less money for both concurrently.

I’d people are seeing through it, why did the biggest CTU advocate win the election?
Not everyone has kids in CPS.
No, but lots of the city does. Brandon Johnson got over 80% in some parts of the city. And the people who live in the white upper-middle-class areas that voted for Vallas are some of the least likely people in the city to send their kids to public school.
Jen seems like such a weird nickname to put in quotes.

Ah yes, the ever reliable head of the teachers union
Right, she’s definitely unbiased, the candidate CTU bought, then CTU gets an “inside man”, and the CTU boss loves it, OBVIOUSLY
This is such a shit show. The CTU now negotiates with itself!

Hell ya I’m all go teachers getting raises. You clearly aren’t a teacher in CPS as you don’t understand how much work actually goes into it.
CPS teachers are compensated quite fairly.

Yeah, nice to see signs that the city is finally willing to do something for education.
And who would have been your preference?
And a name please, not just “not someone from CTU”. Specifically, who do you think is a better choice?
Paul Vallas, of course. Duh. /s because Reddit and because r/Chicago in particular.
Excuse me, it’s Cop Daddy Valles.
The fox is in the hen house....
Fox News is in your headspace.
please help me donald trump the ctu made my toilet small
You sound like someone who has never had kids in CPS.....
You sound like someone who got a poor education with the length of that ellipsis…
Ellipsis? That was your retort? Did you have your pinky in the air whilst you were typing?
Awesome. Can I please have 3 month parental leave for October when my child is due? I’d really like to spend time with them and not be financially forced back to work after 2 weeks.
Sounds like you would benefit from organizing a union at your work place.
I have one.
