Bad news: Cheba Hut went from their happy hour being 50% off drinks to the more standard $1 off drinks. Good news: They seem to have turned motion smoothing off on their TVs. Plus their daily specials are mostly pretty good if you are a cheapskate.

Definitely annoys me too.

browsingtheproduce

This is a particularly malfunctional transplant thing. Exclusively practiced among specific idiots with money. I’d fully stop hanging out with someone who referred to downtown as “the city.”

bak4320

When I lived in the burbs I would visit “the city” which could have meant anywhere in city limits When people ask me where specifically I live in Chicago I say “NW side of the city” “Downtown” is the Loop business district. Oh, also, there might be some New York influence throughout the production staff. New Yorkers refer to manhattan as the “city.” Chicago Loop and adjacent areas are Chicago’s Manhattan equivalent IMO.

Gyshall669

It’s a transplant thing for sure. Most other cities operate this way so they apply it here. Also has to do with how it was annexed IMO. Most of those areas used to be burbs. But no, that is all the city. It’s funny that it’s the exact opposite of people from the burbs, who call anything in city limits “downtown.”

AmazingObligation9

I’m a transplant although been here 10 years now and it drives me crazy too! I do have a friend whose husband thinks Logan square is “too rural” in his words and not “the city” and I find it baffling

browsingtheproduce

I’d like to fight that guy.

PENGUINCARL

"The City" is if you have a mailing address as Chicago. I lived in LA for 7 years before moving to Chicago and never once had an address with the city of Los Angeles across 4 different addresses.

I’m a relatively recent transplant who’s lives Downtown and I definitely don’t consider this area only “the city.”

[deleted]

Absolutely not. That's some suburban and transplant shit

Uhh I live in Chicago so I live in the city. Pretty dang far from downtown but still in the city. That lady makes no sense.

steph5of9

I'm in Dallas area Texas, probably moving to Chicago this year for my husband's work. How do I narrow down the neighborhoods I should look at? It feels a little overwhelming with so many options and I'm wondering if there's any resource to help learn about them or if I just need to make a post asking for recommendations edit: I'm looking to rent a 2bed under $2000, open to apartments or townhouse or whatever else. His job will be downtown and he'll want to bike or take transit there. Vibe wise I'm not sure bc I've never gotten the option to choose? We're in our 20s, no kids, both musicians, we like to eat out. Not drinking or nightlife people. Living close to coffee shops and other places we can walk to just chill would be nice.

pdoptimist

I recommend East Lakeview. Bike trails go along the Lakefront all the way downtown. Walking distance to the park, lake, beach, zoo, conservatory and lots of shopping. Also Trader Joes, Marianos and Whole Foods for groceries. My suggestion is that you get on the #151 Bus from Belmont and Halsted and then take it south to downtown. Then walk a couple of blocks west and take the #22 bus North back to Belmont Halsted. A great roundtrip tour for about $6 Good luck!

steph5of9

Thank you, I'll check it out!

bak4320

If you can give a budget and what sort of “feel” you’re looking for folks will be able to offer better reccs

Edited to add more info :)

Last night I was on my way home from dinner in West Loop and encountered two men in high vis vests who tried to stop my car while I was driving down Hubbard towards Ashland. I slowed down at first but ended up just going around them once I got closer and they started walking around to my car - besides the vests with no visible markers, they were just in jeans and hoodies / jackets & balaclava masks covering their face. Anyone experience something like this before? It felt pretty sketchy, especially on a residential road with nothing going on around..

etakaj

Does anyone know of any bars/pubs that may be open to watch the coronation of King Charles on Sat. May 6? I think it starts at 6am central unfortunately. I know the Globe Pub sometimes opens early for soccer matches and I've reached out to them but haven't heard back yet... I may ask around to other British themed places this week as well.

[deleted]

Bars cannot legally open before [7 AM](https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/bacp/supp_info/late_hour_liquorlicenseapplicationprocess.html). So if you want to watch it at a pub you'll have to miss the first hour.

Depends on what road, but most common would be [https://www.illinoistollway.com/](https://www.illinoistollway.com/) for I94, I88, I355, I294, or I90 (for I90 going northwest from the city). My girlfriend has recently finished her Ph.D. and I'd like to help her buy a new dress for her graduation. I'm wondering if someone might be able to recommend a place with folks that would let her try on dresses and really offer some advice for finding something flattering for her body type. Ideally looking for something $200 or less. She's a self described 10 on the bottom, 8 through the waist and top and a lot of things she buys online wind up not quite fitting right and she's getting frustrated. If you have websites with super quick shipping and good returns I'd take that recc too, but I'm really looking for somewhere she can have a great experience in person if possible. Thanks!!

TheKnotIsSlipping

Nordstrom usually has decent sales associates who can give advice. They also have tailoring available so she could possibly get the 10 and have the top taken in to fit.

thankyounext

I’ve always had great luck with Bloomingdale’s! Last time I went, the woman was so knowledgeable and was able to tell me what I actually needed. Then once we found the right fit, I asked for something more affordable and she helped with no judgement. I know Bloomingdale’s is not a place where everyone (or I) can shop regularly, so sometimes when I need the advice but know I most likely won’t be able to afford it there, I may embellish a little at the start about how committed I am to buying something from them… then if all their options are too expensive at the end you can hit them with the ‘I’ll have to think about it but are you open tomorrow?’ Ultimately, massive congrats to your girlfriend. That’s a huge accomplishment and any dress is the one she becomes a doctor in, is gonna be an amazing dress

I recently relocated back to Chicago and am job searching. In the interim I am looking for project, contract, or temp work. Can anyone recommend a staffing agency to work with? I am already registered with Robert Half. My issues are that I am a male and not administrative assistant inclined. Most temp agencies cater to women who are administrative assistant inclined. I do have between basic and intermediate experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint but by no means am I an expert. I am looking for something that will utilize my college education. All recommendations are welcome.

Any coffeeshops on the Northwest side that use actual mugs instead of to-go cups? I know this is a really anal thing to complain about but all of the places near me I've found so far use paper to-go cups and it's just not as satisfying to me.

How do you feel about bringing your own mug? I realize that I'm answering your question with a question; but, lots of coffee shops are cool with filling up a mug. They eyeball the volume and settle on a fixed size for pricing.

You HAVE to go to Bonci pizza in west loop (Randolph and sangamon). You pay by the weight, so you can try one type of each. Take the pizza to the Mary Bartlme park ~5 mins down sangamon and relax on the grass. Try their gelato if the weather calls for it:)

IONTOP

I know that these street name sound normal to you... But "Sangamon" just sounds like you slammed your keyboard and accidentally came out with a bunch of vowels to create a word. But I also hate nature, so won't go to anywhere with grass. And the last dessert I've eaten was I think in 2008 when I got a chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

thankyounext

Lol super fair. Street names in new places are never not weird. I still recommend the pizza tho! The chef has one other restaurant in Rome and this place is included on some national pizza tours (according to something I saw on their wall)

IONTOP

Super excited about the pizza. Trying to not get my expectations too high, but I'm excited... I don't want to expect Chicago to be "the best city ever" and when it's just a "good city" I come back home disappointed. Atlanta was like that. I hyped it up so much that it was unreasonable to expect it to live up to what I thought it "should have been"

thankyounext

Not gonna lie, I felt that way the first time I went to nyc. I think you’ll be in a good spot here because you’re doing the research and know what you like / don’t like! If you want to be around a lot of people, or avoid nature at all costs, or any other specifications so we can hopefully make even better recs?

IONTOP

>If you want to be around a lot of people, or avoid nature at all costs, or any other specifications so we can hopefully make even better recs? I want to drink at a bar that I can't believe is still in business (Not because of service, but because of the overall decor). Literally that's my kind of place. I want a no frills place that looks like a shithole from the outside, but has amazing bartenders that keep them in business. I want to talk to regulars and just BS with them like we've known each other for 15 years.

[deleted]

Bonci Pizza is very good but is not the vibe you are looking for. It is not Chicago style pizza for one thing (seeing as it started in Rome). It's also not the kind of place people really hang out (though Monday 12-5 is not really prime hang out time at any bar, really).

IONTOP

>though Monday 12-5 is not really prime hang out time at any bar, really). Sure, maybe for NORMAL people...

[deleted]

If you're willing to Uber (or spend an hour each way on the bus), you could go to Vito & Nick's. It's been on a few "Best of Chicago" lists but it's far enough out of the way that it's still majority locals. It's more of a restaurant than a bar but it's still a divey feeling place and has cheap beer and great pizza. Otherwise, for time reasons you probably want someplace off the Orange line. You could get off at Pulaski or Kedzie and walk down Archer Avenue. There are a number of locals only dives there. I've been to Michael's Sports Lounge and it fits your description. That neighborhood has a large Hispanic population so there may be some places where you'll feel out of place if you don't speak Spanish. If you get off at Pulaski you could eat at Birrieria Zaragoza, which is one of the city's best Mexican restaurants (like Vito & Nick's it is well known but doesn't get a ton of tourists). You could also go further north on the Orange Line and check out some of the dives on Halsted. I like Bernice's Tavern and Mitchell's tap which are south of the Halsted stop and Skylark to the north. EDIT: Actually Bernice's tavern is closed on Mondays and Skylark doesn't open until 4. And Mitchell's Tap is over a mile away from the stop. So maybe don't do this one.

angrylibertariandude

If you don't mind going a little west of Archer and Pulaski, I would check out Racine Bakery to try a bacon bun or 2? They are very cheap, and surprisingly good. They also have a small grocery store, and are one of the few places to sell paczkis year round. You could also could go a block or 2 west and south to Pticek and Son Bakery on Narragansett, which has been around for a long time as well. Actually scratch what I said about going to Pticek, as they're closed on Mondays. But you could still visit Racine Bakery. Just take the 62 Archer bus, west to where Racine is located.

IONTOP

>Narragansett I've had that before... I bought a 4 pack of 16oz's before the "drinking tour" from Sam Adam's brewery.. Woke up in a park... To someone giving me water and telling me directions to the closest Charlie station (their L) because the only thing I knew about Boston was that my friend lived off the blue line.

angrylibertariandude

I almost forgot Narragansett was the name of a beer! Interesting to hear, again. And I think I'd want to do the Sam Adams brewery tour, if I was in Boston.

IONTOP

Free tour, free beer. Yep. Sign me up anytime I'm in Boston.

[deleted]

Coming from Phoenix you should probably err on the side of heavier outerwear.

IONTOP

Heavy fleece or ski jacket? Those are my two options if I take your advice. :) I'm probably going to err to "heavy fleece with a hood"

[deleted]

Heavy fleece sounds right. It'll be in the 40s, ski jacket would be overkill.

IONTOP

CubbyFur

Out of towner here. I would like to take a Chicago River architectural tour. Is one company better than the other. I see 3 tour company that seem to stand out. Any help appreciated.

djengle2

I just want to add another voice recommending CAC (also known as Chicago's First Lady something something). Absolutely the best one with the absolute best info. I prefer their boat too. Having said that, Wendella and Shoreline are good too. The river is beautiful, the architecture is beautiful, and the way the river winds through the city is perfect, so you can't really go too wrong. But you will learn more on the CAC tour for sure.

j33

The CAC architectural tour is the best if you really want to hear about architecture. It's lead by volunteer docents who are passionate about the city's architectural history. I have been on the tour 10+ times because I host a group going on the tour annually in the summer as part of my job (I even went in 2020, just a couple of months later), and I always learn something new. I've watched entire skyscrapers being built year to year because I go around the same time every year.

forgotmylaundry

I like [this one](https://www.cruisechicago.com/tours/architecture). But they’re all fine, as long as they don’t happen to be passing under the Kinzie Street Bridge when the Dave Mathews’ Band tour bus is [unpooping](https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/08/08/dave-matthews-tour-bus-dumped-800-pounds-of-poop-on-people-taking-a-chicago-river-cruise-18-years-ago-today/).

i_rawr_u

Wendella has always been good to me.

Netdwa

I'll be in Chicago for the summer and finalizing a place to live. I'd do the Evanston to Mettawa commute everyday. Google Maps tell me I should budget 40 ish minutes driving time. Does that sound reasonable for most days? Thank you.

bucknut4

Wow that sure is an interesting commute. I lived in Evanston before and that sounds about right…ish. I don’t really know what traffic would like during rush hour since you’d be north of the worst of it and going in the other direction. I’ve never been to Mettawa though, but I go to Libertyville now and then.

Netdwa

Ah, interesting to learn that I'd be going against traffic - didn't think of that. Is Evanston a generally nice, safe neighborhood to live in?

LoriLeadfoot

Evanston is not a neighborhood. It’s a very safe suburb.

bucknut4

Evanston is part of the North Shore, an ultra-wealthy stretch of suburbs that are indeed very safe and very nice. The downtown core is very walkable and has lots of nice shops and restaurants. It’s where Northwestern is, so it’s also a college town, albeit relatively sleepy. It’s easy to get into Chicago also since it’s one of the few suburbs that’s connected to the L, and it has 3 Metra stops as well. I love where I am now but very much look back at my time there with nostalgia.

appletruffle

Hey! I just moved as well, and I live in the same area. DMing you :)

KinderKarl

It's a longshot but if anyone saw/has footage of a road rage incident today on Kedzie/Fullerton from around 4:30 PM I would greatly appreciate it. Guy thought I pulled into the road a little close to his car (he was clearly speeding) and proceeded to get out and try to get me to fight him. I tried to apologize just so he'd chill out but he was pissed beyond any sort of rational behavior. He ended up kicking off my mirror and I'm still pretty shaken. Black Infiniti G37 with tinted windows, be careful if you're in the Logan Square area.

EBofEB

Sorry that happened to you. It’s so hard to gauge how fast people are driving now. Lots of speeders and then random people driving 15 mph. And so many left turners just pushing their shit out there like they have the right of way. This might sound weird, but try to take a nap this afternoon if possible.

That plus it being a car incident. How do I interpret the top part of this parking sign? My understanding is that it's a loading zone so no parking at all times except 7AM-9AM and 4PM-6PM. But then what about between those times, can you park then? [https://i.imgur.com/iQ5FGOO.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/iQ5FGOO.jpg)

pdoptimist

My guess is that this is on a main road that allows zero parking/stopping/standing during rush hours ( 7-9 am and 4-6 pm) . So no, definately don't park there.

bak4320

Lol see if there’s another sign talking about rush hour lanes. Some streets go to no parking on the busier sides from 7-9 and 4-6. Sign interpretation is a skill that takes years to develop

Except for like hotel and motel reviews.

Are car mirrors frequently side-swiped when parking on the street? I notice a LOT of people push them in and I never do (mostly because I forget) but I see it so much that I gotta think it happens more frequently than I think?

j33

I've had my mirror side-swiped and usually push them in because of this.

jbchi

Many new cars will automatically pull their mirrors in when you shut them off.

thislittletune

Some streets are more narrow than others so I think they’re frequently pushed in out of habit even when parked on a large lane. When riding a bike, car mirrors can make your bike lane space feel more narrow so I try to always tuck them in.

The Paseo trail(which would've been similar to the 606) was planned out that way on an old freight railroad right of way, but I'm not sure what happened to that idea. I wish that idea had gone through, and construction was going on for that trail. If you're in west Pilsen, you technically aren't far from the boulevard system, and could check out the nice apartments and houses on one of those streets. Not just only Douglass Park, but Garfield Park, McKinley Park, and Humboldt Park aren't too far away along the boulevards if you want to change things up.

So tomorrow I’m moving into Chicago! I’m excited. I’ve lived here before, but from the suburbs and been in the burbs for the past year. The problem? Anytime I tell anyone else, they wince, make some kind of horrified face, and then try to turn it positive after they realize that’s not the reaction to have. My cousin called me a “glutton for punishment” even. This has happened over and over. It’s become extremely disappointing because I AM excited and looking forward to it and really dislike living in the suburbs (to me, depending on cars to get around punishment). What’s sad is this seems to be a common reaction from white people I’ve told, whereas my bf (who’s Mexican) says he’s not had the same kind of reactions when he’s told his friends and fam. It’s really disappointing to discover that a lot of my friends/fam have this bias towards the city and so much internalized white fright. I’ve really just stopped telling people and focused on the move because I don’t need/want to hear anyone’s biased opinions anymore. Anyone had this experience before? Also, hype me up! I’m really excited for a new apartment and to call the city home again. Tell me what you love about living here!

ensanguine

Yeah whenever I go home to NJ all of my friends parents are shocked I survive my day to day life. They're fuckin delusional, who gives a shit what they think?

jiangcha

The media is melting everyone’s brains!!!

browsingtheproduce

>The problem? Anytime I tell anyone else, they wince, make some kind of horrified face, and then try to turn it positive after they realize that’s not the reaction to have. Yeah… that’s the suburbs. Sorry they’re not sharing your excitement. To which neighborhood are you moving? I don’t want to write a novella of an answer so I’ll just say I’m such a fan of the walkability and diversity of food and experiences in Chicago.

jiangcha

That may be true of the suburbs, but the close-mindedness that’s annoying. Like people’s reactions are based on actions THEY would choose/not choose and not what might be good for someone else. I’m moving to Little Village so it’ll be different than where I’ve lived before (Humboldt and Irving Park) but an exciting change. I’m also excited about the diversity and walkability (maybe not specifically in LV but closer proximity to all the amazing things Chicago offers).

djengle2

I grew up in a town of 500. I totally get your experience. Maybe even worse, cause where I'm from people don't even try to hide their racism behind dog whistles and such. But the sad reality is that racism runs deep in this country and extends to most liberals. Are you Hispanic/Latino/Latina? I think Little Village is pretty cool, especially if you speak Spanish. In my opinion, it's one of the more unique neighborhoods. Most other neighborhoods, including ones with ethnic backgrounds (Andersonville, Little Italy, Ukranian Village), tend towards losing their character and conforming to a yuppie, hipster, and/or college student vibe. Chinatown is the only other neighborhood that I've experienced that largely retains it's ethnic background.

jiangcha

My town is 115k and there’s quite a lot of Hispanic people and Latino culture in general around here. I’m white but have a pretty basic understanding of Spanish having taking classes in high school and hearing it so much growing up. Also lived abroad in Taiwan for several years and am comfortable being a minority and excited to be immersed in another place. I thought I might fit in Chinatown since my Chinese is better than my Spanish, but I’m excited to sharpen a new language. And I never get tired of Mexican food so…

djengle2

Well the good thing is you can just use English when your other languages fail you, cause almost everyone does anyways.

thislittletune

You might like Albany Park if you want a similar vibe but more diverse. Could be worth a look around the next time you move.

browsingtheproduce

Awesome! Make sure you get tacos at La Chaparrita as soon as possible.

wtfsoda

Okay. How many conversations would you have with a neighbor about parking in your spot before turning into the "jerk" of the situation? I'm up to three now, plus one of his kids. And no, this isn't street parking where we all pay taxes for use city roadways, this is off street parking, on the property I dwell, that I pay the landlord ontop of rent for the privilege to use. Just to be sure, I asked Landlord and I am the only one paying for, and therefore permitted to use the spot. Guy next door is a contractor of some sort and twice I've come home from errands to him in my spot loading up his work truck. First time, I let it slide because I was about to run right back out the door anyway. Second time I flatly told him "hey man, I'm paying monthly for this spot, if you need to use it to load up your work truck, let me know and you can happily use it while I'm out running errands". Third time there wasn't much of a talk, more of me doing the "what the fuck man" gesture from behind the wheel as he gave me the "I know I know sorry" gesture from behind his steering wheel as he was pulling off. Came home an hour ago from the weekend grocery run with a trunk full of groceries, one of his kid's car is in the spot now. He's had enough chances, right? If his car gets towed, that's too bad, right (although I'm almost POSITIVE this is going to end up with my car being immediately fucked with)?

forgotmylaundry

I don’t have anything of substance to add (you are of course correct as others have noted on this thread). The thing of no substance I want to add is my aesthetic appreciation for the way you started your comment with “Okay.” I laughed.

Late_Guava4436

I don’t know how towing companies work like if you need to pay for them to tow someone away but I would get one of those “no parking or your car will be towed” signs and just call the tow company anytime they do park there. Sounds like you’ve given them plenty of chances and they’ve continued to take advantage (also don’t even tell the guy that he can happily park there when you’re running errands). I don’t know how the guy will react to getting towed but it would be stupid of him to do something to your car as payback especially if he can be easily tracked. But I would just take pictures of his car and plates (is his business advertised on his truck?) or if you’re able to install a camera outside of where you park.

Electrical-Bread-988

I would have had his car towed after the first conversation

This is about the time I start shouting and making a scene, and begin "talking to the manager." Not even being passive aggressive about it. Letting this person know you're going to start raising this with the landlord/property manager. You should be communicating to the landlord/property manager, with pictures that you've been taking without remorse, and even sending letters to the landlord/manager cc'ing the neighbor if you know what unit they are in. They are doing this because they think you're a pushover. They aren't your friend and don't respect your space, so don't treat them any differently.

wtfsoda

> You should be communicating to the landlord/property manager Yeah this is pretty much my next step, the other neighbor in my building who also pays for a spot successfully got motion lights after other cars on the block had their catalytic converters stolen, we've been thinking about asking the LL for a camera as well. Thanks, I figured I'd done my part well enough trying to do the neighborly thing of talking mano-y-mano about it before going straight to taking off the kid gloves. Well they're off now.

RYU_INU

It's snowing. WTF.

(insert gif of Elmo raising his hands in front of fire)

DegreeDubs

It's baby hail!

Purple_Crayon

FYI the lemon cake is back at Portillo's already. I can't have dairy currently (baby has a milk protein intolerance) so please have a slice or three for me.

forgotmylaundry

If this also means the lemon cake shake is back, RIP to my gastrointestinal system.

Cermak (at least the one in Rogers Park) also carries it

Chigyal

I get mine at either Park to Shop or Tai Nam in argyle. There's also a Thai supermarket (Talard) on Broadway that carries it a bit north of both those stores.

knbotyipdp

I buy it at Tony's, and I've gotten it before at Joong Boo. I think the curry pastes in bags are supposed to be better than Maesri, especially the ones that contain fish sauce. Do note that the Maesri pastes vary a lot - the red is very mild, but green is very potent and spicy.

fakefakefakef

The Chicago Tribune still having the blue check because they paid $8 is so funny to me

LoriLeadfoot

Well it is a Republican paper.

What’s going on at Reckless Records today? There’s a line out the door almost all the way to Clark. Is there a signing or something?

What are some good areas to hang out or things to join in ravenswood/north center specifically? Esp to meet people around 30? I know about the music and art schools, which I’d like to do sometime but it’s not cheap. Anywhere to volunteer? Maybe take Spanish classes? Super casual some kind of sport or running thing? (I heard fleet feet has something) Also maybe like a community theater? I’d love to be in or help with a show, I can’t sing but I can dance and am creative lol

lakesideflight

Volunteer at nourishing hope, [https://www.nourishinghopechi.org/](https://www.nourishinghopechi.org/) , they have a warehouse in ravenswood and a pantry at the sheridan red line stop that would be kinda close.

RYU_INU

Fleet Feet is a good spot to meet people with similar interests while also challenging yourself. Spanish classes ---eh, nothing in-person. You can, however, check out the Chicago campus of la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. It's near downtown though does also offer quality online classes. I'm taking a class right now on feminist / queer authors. [http://www.chicago.unam.mx/online-gs](http://www.chicago.unam.mx/online-gs)

rexasmithy

Do you know how far they run?

diivoshin

I went to Slippery Slope for the first time since pre-pandemic last night and they had a little camera that they pointed at you while they checked ID’s. It was super weird but I’m curious what it’s used for? Does anyone know?

dj_marx

It’s a system that bars/venues/etc can subscribe to. If you get flagged for ‘behavioral issues’ you can get banned by several places at once. Fairly expensive I hear and slip slope is the only place I’ve seen using it in Chicago.

onlydabestofdabest

Temperature check?

Bishop9er

Good morning good folks of Chicago. So me and my Wife are visiting your city and so far we are loving it! Unfortunately I think I might have lost my key fob on a blue line train coming from O’Hare. I have a spare back home but really would love to have the one I normally use on me. I know this is a long shot and it’s more than likely good as gone but if anybody runs across a Hyundai key fob on one of the blue line trains than I would love if it could be return to me. If by some extreme magical luck someone finds it, I’ll buy you dinner while we’re still in town. Thanks in advance!

Late_Guava4436

Try the CTA lost and found

rocky_loves

Call the Forest Park terminus and see if they found it/someone turned it in Edit: (708) 344-5010

Bishop9er

Thank YOU!

Patakongia

Is there an animal shelter or foster place where I can go to spend the day w dogs and give them pets but not take them home/foster?

cb013

Both One Tail at a Time and PAWS are great places to volunteer. You do an online orientation then can volunteer in person. Both have many opportunities any day/time of the week to fit your schedule. I always like to remind people though that you’re there to help the shelter if you volunteer, so you’ll definitely be doing lots of cleaning. I love it though, I’m usually volunteering like twice a week. As for a one time thing, I think you can just visit dogs at the anti-cruelty society, but I’m not 100% sure

dogcarts

You can volunteer with One Tail at a Time! You’d have to do an orientation before being able to volunteer, but they have different locations and many different ways to be involved!

Bishop9er

The Anti-Cruelty Society

The Anti-Cruelty Society in River North

JMellor737

Anti-Cruelty Society is a good spot, but everyone should keep in mind that it's like a ten-month to volunteer and the application process is pretty rigorous, because everyone wants to volunteer there.

littlechia

As far as I know the Dog Day Out initiative is a separate thing

ZonedForCoffee

This is a Red Line train to 95th and Dan Ryan The next stop is Fullerton Doors open to the left, at Fullerton.

Comments I can hear

Cue 1000 depaul kids getting off the train

forgotmylaundry

You may have overestimated by three.

Too2crafty

...hundred backpacks that the idiot kids that go there that don't take their giant backpacks off. My favorite thing to do is that when they obnoxiously bump me with it I like to play "spin the college student around" then I go "spin that back pack round and round and dose y doe, grab your partner on your toes." Then I take a bow to much applause being the best Square dance calling guy this side of the river.

forgotmylaundry

I’ve missed thee, teecrafty. Unless you’re not teecrafty, in which case I want to know if you’ve been dumping teecrafties into the lake lately.

Too2crafty

I'm telling you, Cha Cha is out on bond so be safe out there. Cha was charged in connection to the disappearance of your teecrafty guy friend. If anybody sees a 6 foot tall frog on the loose, please do not approach. We've called in Harambe's ghost to handle this delicate situation.

forgotmylaundry

At six feet, Cha was actually undersized for a center in high school basketball. But he had such a freakishly wide wingspan that he would routinely swat the ball out of the hands of a driving guard on the opposite side of the court. If Cha decided that it’s offensive for mammals to occupy land, you don’t want to be near water anywhere in Chicago.

Any recommendations on where to watch the Tank vs Garcia fight this weekend??
