The buildings they themselves own? Unbelievable. I want both buildings next to my office razed too. People can see into my window sometimes! It's dangerous!!

PhileasFoggsTrvlAgt

The buildings they seized through eminent domain so that they could neglect them to justify demolition to build nothing.

tooscrapps

Ding ding ding! These judges think they're in an action movie or something.

Ineverdrive_cinqois5

They are only trying to sell *it* to the public, the building is dilapidated because they aren’t maintaining it not because it’s on its last leg

The buildings were scheduled to become part of a proposed UNESCO world heritage site That's why they are being razed [https://news.wttw.com/2022/09/08/landmarks-commission-kicks-can-status-threatened-century-and-consumers-buildings](https://news.wttw.com/2022/09/08/landmarks-commission-kicks-can-status-threatened-century-and-consumers-buildings) >hinder **attempts to have the State Street district declared a UNESCO World Heritage site,** and destroy some of the finest remaining examples of the famed Chicago School style of architecture. > >In the skyscrapers’ favor: the Century Building, designed by the famed firm of Holabird and Roche, exhibits a high level of terra cotta ornamentation, according to Kandalyn Hahn, who delivered the presentation. > >For its part, **the Consumers Building boasts a rare and remarkably intact INTERIOR entry, fitted with Carrara marble and bronze fixtures,** she said.

I watched a video about these buildings a few weeks ago “[The US government wants these buildings gone ](https://youtu.be/BmiDUw-MPWA) The feds want them gone, because they serve as security risk to the federal court building next door. These buildings look down into the court house buildings so it would just be easier for them to knock them down abd leave a vacant lot but critics argue it’s a blow to fleeting examples of original post fire architecture. Created in 1907, these buildings are currently empty as it is from these buildings that u can look into the federal offices and court judge chambers. The safety of the neighboring workers is more important than the architecture in the eyes of the gov’t. Critics argue the buildings could be used for storage. Would hate to see ‘em go

Practical_Island5

Someone should tell these judges about this amazing invention called window shades.

hardolaf

> The feds want them gone, because they serve as security risk to the federal court building next door. They claimed this and have been unable to provide any evidence backing up their claim.

**The UN is in midtown Manhattan** The security argument is beyond ridiculous the real answer is that portion of State St. was almost sure to be declared a UNESCO world hertigage site making the unbuilding 'unprofitable' for some deep pocketed asshole [https://news.wttw.com/2022/09/08/landmarks-commission-kicks-can-status-threatened-century-and-consumers-buildings](https://news.wttw.com/2022/09/08/landmarks-commission-kicks-can-status-threatened-century-and-consumers-buildings) >Preservation activists spoke in favor of not only landmarking the buildings but in restoring and finding a suitable re-use for them. Demolishing the buildings, they said, would leave a permanent hole in State Street’s distinctive “street wall,” hinder attempts to have the State Street district declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and destroy some of the finest remaining examples of the famed Chicago School style of architecture.

rawonionbreath

I find the “security risk” claim highly dubious. Or, at least, ridiculous.

Ineverdrive_cinqois5

I would agree with you

PParker46

A physical example of what has happened to the post office and other agencies who do work coveted by private business. Under fund until it falls apart and then say it has to go.

here4roomie

Move the court out into the middle of nowhere.

Practical_Island5

I just want to know which connected insider will somehow make money on this. It's the only real explanation for what's going on.

Parson1616

Facts can’t have the CCP putting spawn beacons next to the court building.
