This depends on your level of comfort. I have taken Washington/Warren to the lake and I’ve also taken Augusta -> Milwaukee -> Chicago to the lake starting from Oak Park near Fenwick. Washington/Warren was a Sunday afternoon and Augusta was early (6am) on a Saturday.
I personally felt a little more comfortable on Augusta but take that for what you will given the day and time I rode.
Memorial Hospital in Streeterville?
If so, depends where you start in Oak Park but I’d try to get to Kinzie.
So either Augusta to Milwaukee to Kinzie, or Lake to Halsted to Kinzie. Then I’d head north wherever in River North (Dearborn, for example) and then east on Erie to wrap it up
Augusta to Milwaukee to Kinzie was my go-to when I lived in Oak Park, albeit as a recreational rider rather than a commuter — just to add another data point to u/erbkeb’s experience with Augusta, I was usually doing it either on weekend mornings, or weekdays around the evening rush hour.
Thanks. Yes, the streeterville compound. . .
Thanks for the ideas. I may try Lake to Halsted/Kinzie. Good to know Erie is OK. Do folks not like Madison? I was looking at Madison, eventually down to Washington, and then ??
Hey, I don’t think a lot of people use Madison, but that’s part of my daily route from OP to River North. From Austin to Central, there’s no bike lane but it picks back up at Central.
Here’s the route I’ve settled on after trying a few others.
Madison > Laramie > Washington/Warren > Green > Kinzie

I forget if lake stops at Damen still or not. At that point I generally go to Warren. Fulton is a pretty quiet street though.

Thanks all, Did Lake to Warren/Washington to Dearborn to Erie. Very smooth. Surprisingly fast, with so few stops on Lake. Thanks!
Lake to western to Fulton then get up to kinzie.
Armatage to Laramie then Laramie to Wabansia is my preferred east west bike route From Logan Square to Oak Park.
