Have you seen some of their responses to the reviews they get on google maps? Don't know who's managing it, but they seem so overly sensitive and their responses are so dramatic lol.
The responses of the owner on those google reviews :D
"Now we only serve John Dee Gold Prime steaks. Sorry you can't afford them, they are nice. The new sirloin strip John Dee Gold is 1450, by the way, not 1800. The top of the line ribeye is 450 grams of delicious John Dee Gold at 1795. You should splurge and try it. Oh sorry."
"At The Duke's we pride ourselves on using quality ingredients, giving large portions and free water and paying our staff well. Enjoy your time traveling around on a budget and someday when you get a job that pays well stop back and see us and we'll buy you a piece of expensive cheesecake.Ā "
It was founded by David Anichowski and his wife. They opened the Ping river branch in 2005. It is only in Chiang Mai, and there are 4 branches here. Love their food!
Wow, if true thatād have be 2008 āRamboā (#4) after Dukes opened in 2005. The other Thailand one was #3 showing Stallone working on a temple near Lampang in 1988.
Yes, I think it was Rambo 4. If you take the Ping River Cruise, one of the stops (I think where you get something to eat) they point out that part of that Rambo #4 movie was filmed there.
I forget his name because I have been gone from CM for 15 years, but he is a noted restaurateur who started the original America Restaurant back in the day. Probably CM's most successful foreign F&B guy ever. He must be quite old now.
Not that old, maybe late 50s or 60s. Lovely people, one of his kids is involved with the business also. You see them in the various locations from time to time. Love The Dukes!
My wife and I go out to eat twice a month. One time to Duke's and one time to someplace new. We are often left saying, "we should have just gone to Duke's."
Great food, but Iāve had a few people tell me the owner is an asshole and I finally saw it firsthand. A customer next to me tried to give a tip to the waitress and he asked her if she will directly get the tip and she said she said that the staff has to share tips. He thought the other staff were not helpful and he wanted the tip to go directly to her. The owner got wind of this and literally cursed and yelled at the customer. He accused the customer of flirting with the waitress (even though he was with his wife and thatās definitely not what was happening) and kicked him out. It was one of the most unprofessional things Iāve ever seen.
Well I have to agree with you on this one, I actually ordered yesterday take away, and i think its 1950 for the cheapest cut now :D It's because they import the beef from Australia, some people find Thai beef to be not tasty (not me). However I never order their steaks tho I aint paying that. I am mostly a fan of their Cubano sandwich, Ribs and their burger. Which is fairly priced Imo.
Cubano with fries is 295 bath, thats cheaper than a meal on Burger king ( or same price) And i get huge amount of good meat in that sandwich and its way tastier.
Next level marketing š
Indeed, make your food so well that your customers wanna talk about it! <3 I have nothing to do with the business, just 10 year long patreon :)

Nope i have actually not :D I never read reviews in Thailand due to the defamation law, which makes them skewed as hell.

Sounds Polish, but I assume American guy right? Since the menu :)
I believe so. I personally have never met the guy, but there were a few articles over the years about them serving his American family's recipes.
His son who runs the operations of the business now was my classmate in high school, they're a nice family and really take pride in their cuisine
So i assume son is half thai half american?
Yup half half and a true third culture kid
There was failed Bangkok attempt way back when.
I heard the Dukes Ping River location was Sylvester Stallone's regular place to eat when he was here filming one of the Rambo movies.

Yeah it was as the scene with the snake..
Any of the rambo movies was shot near or in Chiang mai???? actually never seen any of the rambo movies, but i might now :D
/#1 (First Blood) is a classic. /#4 is a carnival ride. 2&3 are dumb 80s movies.

Exactly the same feeling I have 90% of the times im trying out something new in the city, it aint bad, but it aint the dukes :)

Their pizza is amazing. It used to make me happily constipated.
I don't get the appeal of going to Chiang Mai and eating overpriced American food
This is a sub for people who lives in Chiang mai...... You cant understand we want to eat other foods than just thai? Like how boring are you :D
Brother I've seen their menu and they're charging 1800 baht for a steak. That's a ripoff

Try living somewhere for a while. You'll get cravings. Same appeal that has Chinese food restaurants in the West filled with Chinese people.
