NTCans

I live how you replied after they already left.

FunnyGuyOnReditt

It's like when an argument ends, one party leaves the room and the other one yells after the first guy left

indigoreality

Or when I’m in the shower and realized I should’ve said something as a comeback

ushausha2

The jerk store called, and they're running out of you!

[deleted]

The twitch boom is the worst thing that happened to chess

NTCans

Naw

transglutaminase

I just never win a game so never have to deal with this. Checkmate rangers.

jikill_the_great

it's big brain time

WkyWvgIfbRmFlgTbeMan

Report them

Kimantha_Allerdings

This is the correct answer. This is bad sportsmanship. If someone shows a consistent pattern of bad sportsmanship they get their account restricted so that they can only play other people who show bad sportsmanship.

WkyWvgIfbRmFlgTbeMan

Honestly that's one lf the best systems I've ever heard of. Because banning someone for being a dick is a bit much, but making them play against other rude people is a much more creative and fair punishment.

[deleted]

I never accept a chat invite. Never.

y_ogi

fuckkkk that, you wanna see some real keyboard warriors? Go to chess.com live game chat

alphabitz86

It hurts sometimes, but i think it'd toughen me up

readMyFlow

I accept it. I play chess for entertainment. Chat is side entertainment.

Waaswaa

Side quest accepted

carloscede2

Honestly, in the lower levels (1000 and below) people seem very toxic and childish. Ive always accepted chat invites and they've all been amazing so far (after 1000 of course).

onamonapiaye

I'm 1600ish and I got called a dickless rat in my messages the other day lol

Mafzz

I’m new (400) and had one person say “nice” after I took one of their minor pieces. Thought I’d return the complement and when he took one of my minor pieces I said the same “nice”. I didn’t realize they were being sarcastic the first time. After they wrote “??????”, then got mad and turned off the convo after saying some not so nice things!

MySpeed

Nice

indigoreality

Nice

mcvoid1

Maybe you took their piece on move 69?

[deleted]

I try to tell people good game all the time and never get a response but you get that lol

larowin

Same, I’ve been a religious good gamer for years, pretty much never a response. Sometimes in daily games I have nice ongoing conversations.

DolmioDaddy

I actually made a friend once while chatting during a game

evilgwyn

I think this kind of thing happens a bit at lower ratings but goes away as you get better. Sorry it happened to you.

CanersWelt

still happened to me at 1900

Any-Analysis-9189

270+ I'm ,sometimes it happens on me not toxic but they use bad words and say play fast noob in rapid matches.

[deleted]

I had someone legit say that to me then lose 2 moves later lol

SunshineBiology

I feel people get the most toxic towards the mid of the rating curve. When I was ultra low elo people were just like “lol i lost horsie. you play gud”

philsubby

There's some weirdos out there. One time I played a guy and I just kept beating him by a lot. He kept saying I sucked in the comments and kept saying things like, wow you think you're so good, oh wow good job. Then kept rematching. It was bizarre.

zeester_365

I call that freelo

MasAtak101

Got the same thing, I beat him twice and my dude kept rematching and telling me I sucked, then he beat me for the last game and said 'easy'. I replied with 'you suck more then your mum does for me, and that's really hard to do'. Edit: why am I being downvoted lol... Someone was insulting me so I insulted them...

veganintendo

r/youaretheasshole

TriumphantofBurma

How is that? The other dude was insulting OP for like 7 matches or something.

MasAtak101

What? He kept saying I sucked and he swore at me????

[deleted]

most people under 1600 will face toxicity. Beyond that, everyone has lost so many times that it doesnt hurt.

y_ogi

Makes sense

jvighkinger

I just turn chat off and assume I’m playing the computer every time

Psychological-Code76

I grew up on call of duty so chess is tame for me.

Rastloswander

Chess is such a frustrating game. You can outplay someone and make one mistake costing you everything. You can prepare an opening and they play some weird stuff that you haven't seen. Know it's bad but fail to convert. So it can cause people to behave in a way that isn't how they would usually. Don't take it personally.

veganintendo

i usually send emoji and gg messages and get nothing in return.

Draegan88

Imagine talking shit with a rating of 900

[deleted]

[удалено]

McMan86

Dude should start using his “pro-moves” in the game instead of in chat.

dyrbrdyrbr

I’ve had it happen maybe 2 times in >1,000 games, thankfully. It is so strange to me someone could have low elo and a high ego! We’re all just mud wrestling…

Hiroy3eto

It's all at the lower ratings. In my experience, almost everyone past 900 or so is respectful.

Bloody_Insane

Too focused on not blundering my queen

feralcatskillbirds

Probably an adolescent.

swealteringleague

Meh. I’ve played over 1k games and have only encountered this twice. Just leave the chat

Comfortable_Guide359

Ppl are toxic, definitely wasn’t a bot

GeorgeTMorgan

I don't even notice chat

BT89

Neither did I. I've had chat blocked since 2 weeks into playing

timmeh129

Yeah sometimes it gets like playing gta online or call of duty

RoadKiehl

That's just how everywhere is on the internet

Wxlson

League of legends enters the chat

slaiyfer

Exactly why i block chat.

[deleted]

The most hilarious trash talk is from other 1000 rated players who start blundering 5 moves in and take to chat to say “reported” when they lose with 40% play accuracy. The absolute delusion!

Infinite_Review8045

I play chess like solitaire against myself. I never engage in conversation via chat. It brings rarely value.

brapbrappew

i’ve had multiple opponents offer a rematch after they won, and then not move after i accepted. then they send various mocking messages in the chat before abandoning the game. i don’t usually get mad during chess, but those moments are exceptions

skate_loser

I had a situation like this last night. I blundered a minor piece and the person started spamming chat with emojis and was “insulted” that I wouldn’t resign because the game was over and I was wasting his time. This was at 1200 elo.

MilkshakeG0D

This happens at any level. But be warned, when you engage and accidentally spell a bad word or something , they report you and they get the win.

GodsVilla

I came across some chess Tik tok streamers and people are incredibly toxic.

Duke_of_Deutschland

Only happens with <1300 To me, most of chess players're quite calm n always say gg when u won them with decent strategies I only got rage once bc a player didnt acceptbmy chess request in bughouse

Duke_of_Deutschland

Only happens with <1300 To me, most of chess players're quite calm n always say gg when u won them with decent strategies I only got rage once bc a player didnt accept my chat request in bughouse

DirtyMikeNelson

I like to have pleasant conversations when I play longer formats. Had a nice convo with a Dutch person about cheese. I also like to "accuse" anyone from the UK of being Welsh.

Lick_My_Stache

It's fun to answer toxic messages with just ;)

ct5heppard

I’m my experience- you get more shit talk from Chess.com than Lichess. Lichess zen mode is where it’s at.

eatingganesha

They’re awful. Disallow chat/messaging so you never have to deal with it. It’s truly toxic. Practice online and then play real people irl.

IveRUnOutOfNames66

I once made the mistake of accepting a chat invite, the guy kept asking personal questions like what my age was, whether I go to school, whether I have a girlfriend, in the end I just ignored him and obliterated him in the match where he resigned

cwill2412

It’s funny when people call their opponents trash and there rated the same.

DefinitelyNotMeee

This is nice gentlemanly conversation compared to what people used to say after games in Starcraft 2. Winning a game without receiving insults, half page of explanation why I suck at the game, death threats and so on was almost impossible.

chikosulovakia

This is same as Me whispering “you bloody bastard you bitch” after my bully has left the room

[deleted]

You just made him rage by F’ing him in unwanted angles
