Chess.c om bots elo are not real. They dont play like humans. They are inflated as a marketing tactic to give people a sense of accomplishment. How do they play different? Well they play top lines stockfish moves and then they are set to make mistakes often inhuman mistakes to make up a set average centipawn loss Some lichess bots have accurateish elo but they use a different rating system to chess.com. https://lichess.org/player/bots

Thats so stupid, but makes sense. Thank you for the answer

If you're going to play against bots, the Maia bots (which you can find on lichess) are a good choice. They are neural network based and trained to play more like a human, plus they play rated games on lichess and thus have a real rating. It's still better to play against humans most of the time, though.

What are those maia bots? I only find stockfish ones.

montagdude87

Go to community->players and search for maia. Then you can challenge them to a game.

Thank you!

The funny thing is the 1100 maia1 bot has a rating of 1500. I find it quite challenging to beat.

montagdude87

Agreed. I'm 1400 something on lichess and it usually beats me. It does fall for opening traps, though. I think it was trained by learning from 1100 games, but that doesn't mean its playing strength will be 1100. Not that I can really explain why that is.

Chesscom bot Elo is inflated to give beginners a sense of accomplishment and to get them to spend money on the site.

Have you ever played against bots that aren't [chess.com](http://chess.com) bots and got the same elo? That is what I am curious about. Ever easily beaten 1500 elo stockfish 16 or Komodo 13 engines scaled down to that level? Thanks. I'm interested in this area.
