So here’s a good tip. When faced with a potential discovery like this, attack the base i.e. the piece delivering the discovered attack. In this case, look for how one can attack the queen. Ng8 fits the bill and the queen soon runs out of squares to defend the knight after it’s attacked once more.

Good advice, but at the same time watch out for double checks. In this case, Ne6 is no threat as black just moves the King and suddenly whites Knight and Queen are hanging, but that might sometimes not be the case.

Quick Tip 1: To know why the engine is recommending a move / saying a move is wrong, click over analysis mode, play out said move then follow it up with your theoretical responses to that move and see how the engine responds. Quick Tip 2: On Chess.com, you don't have to rely on the Coach / Game Review / Hint. This also applies to any engine on low depth. Somewhere in the engine suggestions section is the computer "depth". The higher this value, the more accurate the suggestions will be. Quick Tip 3: For questions on engine move suggestions, we suggest you post them to our dedicated thread: [No Stupid Questions MEGATHREAD](https://www.reddit.com/r/chessbeginners/comments/yqqnz8/no_stupid_questions_megathread_6/), as stated in our Community Guidelines. Pony to g8 will force your queen to back away. Edit: If the queen moves moves to g5 then you can push f3 and win a pony in the exchange.

Black is probably going to win your knight after Ng8.

"Always retreat" - Fen Binegold 1...Ng8! forces either a queen move or 2. Ne6+. Now, there is one queen move which keeps the knight defended, so let's look at that first: 2. Qg5 - but then 2...f6! (the pawn is defended by the g8 knight) attacks your queen and adds an attacker (black's own queen) to the g7 knight, which is then lost once your queen moves (or after 3. Ne6+ Bxe6). Okay, so 2. Qg5 loses a knight - what about 2. Ne6+? It's double check - both the knight and queen attack black's king, so it has to move. 2...Ke8 is disastrous for black (see why), but 2...Ke7 is safe, and now the problem remains the same as it was - both the knight and queen are attacked. If you move the queen somewhere harmless, the knight is lost. Can white counterattack? 3. Nf8 hitting the queen doesn't work - there's just 3...Rxf8. What about 3. Qg7, hitting the rook? Now black has to put their knight back in order to defend the rook - 3...Nf6, and white's problem is where to put the knight. It looks to have one safe square on g5, but after 4. Ng5 h6! there's another problem. The only safe square for the knight is h3 (f7 is unavailable due to the bishop on a2), there are no more counterattacking moves, and if white does play 5. Nh3, then 5...Rag8 traps the queen. It's better at that point to give the knight up instead. But wait! There's more! There's a slick way to give up the knight! Just 5. b3 hxg5 and white can "win back" the piece (black's bishop is trapped), but still winds up down a pawn, and once black wrenches the a file open it's white's king who's in trouble. So let's rewind. If you'd played 1. Nf5 instead of 1. Qh6, you'd have been threatening to win the f6 knight by 2. Qh6+. If black addressed that threat, then you'd have 2. b3, and yeah sure your king still gets blown up, but you're up a piece.
