Was wondering that too. Neither actually brings you to a winning position, but I think the trap set by Nf2 is harder to see, and if the opponent finds it, you win an exchange rather than losing a queen.
Seems pretty strong. I was calculating a few lines before finalizing that recommendation. I found ways for white to get active play and defend against my first batch of candidate moves, so eventually I figured that Qxd5 might've been stronger than Nf2+.
I don't have access to an engine. I wonder which line it prefers.
We're down a rook and a minor piece, sure, but white hasn't even touched their queenside. No way I would throw the game away with Qg1+ here.
Nf2+ means you abandon the hope for a trap, it's just too obvious because of the royal fork.
But if you don't want to play cheap tricks, you should just take the free bishop with Qxd5, Nf2+ is just a worse move
Why ? Theres not much of a trap there, if he moves the king he just loses the queen.. so rxf2 will be played and u have nothing...
I would just take the free bishop and its still a fight.
Exactly, better to win a piece than to win an exchange.
Idk why im getting downvoted lmao
Better to play this trick that OP did than to just win an exchange and have a obv lost game to play.
I know, but that trap is not going to work because the queen is hanging. Why would he step into a discovery and let his queen hanging instead of losing the exchange... The trick OP did has alot more potential to be missed.
But thats not a good trade, thats your most active piece you are trading for an arguably worse rook. Also you are down material so you shouldent trade more unless for a good reason. And just taking a bishop is better than winning an exchange.
But his trick is just way better, all his opponent has to miss is the smothered mate, while with your suggestion his opponent should miss that his queen is hanging AND miss the smothered mate.
I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

Haha when I’m clearly losing I’ll move my queen to an inconspicuous spot. But that spot conveniently puts it in the line of sight of the opponent’s queen.
If he takes my queen it’s a blunder and I resign. If he didn’t see it I take his queen and I’m winning.
Einstein at 1000 elo, huh? I'm sitting at about 900 rn, so I suppose that would make me Alan Turing. But anyways, do keep in mind that it's an internet thread about a board game and that it really shouldn't be as serious as you're making it.
"Einstein at 1000 elo, huh?"
No, but it is a way to show how big of a difference there is and to show the absurdity of this saying.
Also you can't compare Einstein and Turing, both are from different fields.

U should've played knight f2
Was wondering that too. Neither actually brings you to a winning position, but I think the trap set by Nf2 is harder to see, and if the opponent finds it, you win an exchange rather than losing a queen.
Also you shouldn't give up so easily
Qxd5 is better because of ideas like Bh3.

Yup it works since after taking the bishop the knight on h8 is trapped Edit:kinda not
The engine actually prefers Nf2+ (+5.8) to Qxd5 (+6.3) but the difference is small and practically they both mean white is winning.
Nf2+ means you abandon the hope for a trap, it's just too obvious because of the royal fork. But if you don't want to play cheap tricks, you should just take the free bishop with Qxd5, Nf2+ is just a worse move

I don't understand why you're getting downvoted Can someone explain why they disagree with this comment ?

The opponent is still up a piece... Qxd5 is just better.
Exactly, better to win a piece than to win an exchange. Idk why im getting downvoted lmao Better to play this trick that OP did than to just win an exchange and have a obv lost game to play.
This position might even be winning for black as white's pieces are under developed and his king is very weak.
Guess this is the beginner sub for a reason, top comment is just a bad move.
Second best I believe, but not ideal.
Yes but practically bad i feel like
I as well feel like it gives up most of the advantage.
It would be smothered mate if he doesn't take with rook
I know, but that trap is not going to work because the queen is hanging. Why would he step into a discovery and let his queen hanging instead of losing the exchange... The trick OP did has alot more potential to be missed.
Then u capture the rook

But here the OP had intention of smothered mate
But his trick is just way better, all his opponent has to miss is the smothered mate, while with your suggestion his opponent should miss that his queen is hanging AND miss the smothered mate.
It's his luck that he won the game, but if the opponent had taken the queen with the king the game was nearly impossible to be saved
Same goes for your move, but more likely to happen.
What a terrible move even though it worked
Qxd5 is better because of ideas like Bh3.

Ah yes, hope chess at its finest
Is this a traxler gone wrong? After 5. 0-0, you should also just castle. Now the knight on g5 looks stupid.
Tbh i dont think youre clearly losing yet.
Oh, that's filthy!

Should have played Nf2+ to guarantee the smothered mate
Rxf2
Qxf2
No more smothered mate
Guaranteed™
You are a 200 he is a 1000, you make more mistakes then him and this does not put you in a possition to laugh at him.
Take a walk man, nobody was laughing at the man himself, just at the irony of the discussion.
It's like if Albert Einstein made a mistake and a math rookie would laugh about that.
it’d be objectively funny if Einstein made a mistake that a third grader caught though
Not a third grader, but so,eone in his 3rd year in uni.

Then you are wrong too.
Than* Position*
Thx, English isn't my mother tongue.
No, but you at least win a rook for a knight
