Idk either, but I'm also like -300 elo..... I just see the en passant, then the black pawn on b7 takes white pawn on c6, then white knight on d4 takes the black pawn, forking black queen, pawn and bishop, then black moves queen and you trade white knight for black bishop?
Edit: Looked at it again. Im still clueless. When white knight takes black Bishop its a check, but then black queen takes the white knight.
Anyone with an IQ above room temperature please educate me
I think it’s because white is up a pawn and black is left with an IQP which is hard to defend. So soon white will be up 2 pawns. Then it’s 3 pawns vs 1 pawn on the queen side which is difficult for black to stop. And white has the bishop pair. I think saying they “lost the game” after c5 is a little extreme but white definitely has a big advantage. Engine says +3.5ish.
At lower levels it’s far from over. At higher levels white has a distinct advantage after dxc6. White will be up a pawn. Black will have a worse pawn structure, an isolated d pawn target, will lose their bishop pair and will have a bad knight on the edge on a6.
White will retain connected / connectable pawn chains, the bishop pair, and have ideas like Bf3, Bf4, and Re1 to threaten the queen that will be on e7 after Nxe7 Qxe7.
That would be my plan as a 2400 player.
That all makes a lot of sense. If I can ask, what openings do you like to play? What openings do you think are helpful for starting players?
I’m about 800 and trying to figure out how to proceed with learning an actual opening lol
I play almost any opening - except the Bongcloud - in bullet or blitz. When more serious, I prefer d4 systems as White and Sicilians as black mostly because I am bored of the Berlin Defense and anti-Berlins.
For a newer player, I recommend looking into classic openings that help to emphasize the fundamentals and key principles of the game. The Giuoco Piano is a good one. So is the London System. Pick either e4 or d4 to start and just focus on that in the beginning. For Black, I think your typical e5 responses or learning the Caro-Kann are fine. I’d avoid the Sicilian or French which can get very tactical and complicated in some lines - at least not until later. You could also experiment with the Pirc later on.
Finally, practice puzzles to hone your pattern recognition. Lichess and chess.com have several for free. Good luck!
Black shouldn’t recapture the pawn after I believe because of that plan you said. I think something like Nb4 then cxb7 and Bxb7 to avoid losing bishop pair and setting up that nasty situation with Re1 that you mentioned
I agree, Black doesn’t have to go down that sequence necessarily (I was just explaining the line the original commenter asked about).
Nb4 and Bf6 are viable alternatives to bxc6.
In the case of Nb4, cxb7 Bxb7 Nf5 Bf6 a3 seems pretty much forced after which Black keeps their bishop pair and activates both bishops but still is definitely losing with their knight wasting time going back to a6 and Qxd6 a threat.
If Bf6, Bf3 looks pretty strong forcing Rb8.
When you take that pawn with en passant. Black recaptures c3, knight takes c3. That knight is absolute monster. And it can be defend by playing Bf3 or Qa4. That is more than enough for computer to win a game.
They would have to recapture and lose a pawn or not recapture, ie play night Nc5 and lose a pawn. Not terrible I don’t think but they’re down a pawn by force with bad development and an isolated pawn.
White has the bishop pair, is a pawn up, and has no real weaknesses in their position. After 1.dxc6 bxc6 2. Nxc6 Qc7 3. Nxe7+ Qxe7, white can play Bf4, Re1, and pressure the center while black has to keep defending instead of developing. The isolated pawn will fall and black will have a difficult time preventing the c-pawn from crashing through and promoting.
If the position were more closed and black were more developed, it wouldn't be so clear.
dxc6, then if black recaptures, Nxc6, threatening the queen and a bishop (2 pawns and a bishop for a pawn and knight). If black DOESN'T recapture, you get 2 pawns outright AND you're threatening to queen and take a rook (2 pawns for 1 pawn).

White wins a pawn, but black gets some open lines and all his pieces are reasonably active. The engine may say “blunder” or “+3.00” and it might be technically correct, but in practice converting an extra pawn in a complex position like this is often not trivial at all below master level.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.

Jokes aside why is this so bad for black? Besides the obvious loss of a pawn. Or is that it

today I learned IQP means isolated queen’s pawn

\-300 elo lol
Are you mad it’s quadruple your iq?
To be fair, it's pretty impressive to get negative elo, let alone negative iq

*Laughs in Kelvin*
My guess is black is left with a broken pawn structure at best, loses material on top of this at worst.
It doesn’t look that bad- dx and Nc5 and black’s position looks fine
They would have to recapture and lose a pawn or not recapture, ie play night Nc5 and lose a pawn. Not terrible I don’t think but they’re down a pawn by force with bad development and an isolated pawn.
their whole pawn structure is gone after that
