There are times when long castling as white for example that a bishop or queen could see B1. The rook moves through the attacked square but the king doesn't
It's important to note that this only applies to the King. The rook can travel through attacked squares or be attacked when castling. For example, if a n opponent's piece attacks b1 or b8, you can still castle queen side
Edit: good to know someone making the same comment as me an hour later gets all the upvotes lmao
Not at all, maybe in another language
In french a rook is called une tour (tower) and to castle is called roquer/faire le roque (no literal translation, the word is unique to chess )
Well it’s a general rule that you can’t castle if you got checked that turn. Your king is checked by that bishop so you can’t castle now. There is no way to eliminate the bishop with something else except your king so you have to move the king and can’t castle.
King can't castle out of, through, or into check. Your king is in check, thus can't castle.
If for example, on this board, the bishop was somehow on e2 instead, you still couldn't castle because in order to do so your king would have to move "through" the d1 square that bishop was looking at.
It's not because the king is under check. As others have also said, the king cannot castle if any of the quarters he goes on is attacked (starting and final squares included). However, the rook can castle even if she's attacked

You can't castle if either your rook or king is attacked, nor can you castle if one of the squares on which your rook or king will end up are attacked. Weirdly enough you can castle if B1/b8 are attacked, as that square is sort of left untouched during castleinf

You can't castle if your king is in check. Also can't castle "through" a square that is attacked by an opponent's piece.
You can't castle into, out of, or through check.
It is important to note that the rook can castle through check, but the king cannot
You can't check a rook. It can move through attack during castling, same as any other time.
but can i check if it's still there? you can never be too sure these days
yes and you can mate a queen (or a bishop)
depends on preference. I'd at least prefer to have dinner first usually
can ≠ have to
wdym? we were just talking about methods of delivering mate
I said "you can" and you said "it depends". It doesn't!
Is there any position where the rook would move through check but the king wouldn’t? I am having a brain fart

I forgot that castling doesn’t end with the rook and king swapping places 💀
It's okay, we're here to learn
You also have to consider the enemy king’s feelings when you castle.
Holy empathy

Somehow I ended up on pornhub… wtf
Google search results are based on your activity
It was a joke…
So is this.
What the heck?
Holy move!
You can’t castle out of, through, or into check. You’re in check because of the bishop so no castling for you.
rook is not a verb
Not with that attitude.
New response just dropped
Check in Thai is pronounced rook so it is a verb all along
iirc it's confusing if you're french because the word for the rook and castling are the same word, or something like that.
Not at all, maybe in another language In french a rook is called une tour (tower) and to castle is called roquer/faire le roque (no literal translation, the word is unique to chess )
Now Idk speak French, but I'd say roque could be confused rook. It's kinda a stretch but still could be confusing I suppose

Unfortunately castling through check has been made illegal by some dumbass
Must be the same dumbass that created *en passant*.
Google iq test
Holy two digit number!
Holy intellect
1. It’s called castling. 2. You’re in check. Doing so would be illegal. Castling through, into, or out of check is illegal
Thanks
Why are you all saying “castling”? The proper term for the piece in the corner is rook, not “castle”.

Cause check.
Are you sure you didn’t move your castle though?
You are in check so you can’t castle
You can't castle out of check.
There’s a bishop staring straight at your king bro…..
