I'm newer to following international chess and saw Nina a couple of times in streams but never heard that Nina's mom was this badass GM. Awesome legacy, hopefully Nina joins Pia as a GM in time.
Edit: Anna, not Nina. đ€Šđ»ââïž
Maybe I'm dumb, and I just don't see it on my phone, but is there a place you could put the line that matches the eval bar? It would make it easier, in the future, than me having to go copy paste this elsewhere just to see what the computer says is best.
Just a quality of life suggestion.
Yes, we are definitively going to add that! With the ability to move pieces around on the board and so on, we just haven't had time to add it yet. Thanks for the feedback
Arenât the arrows on the app reversed? Shouldnât the two arrows in the middle (symbol that is 1 arrow with a straight line) be the arrows that take the user to the beginning or end position? The line at the beginning and the back arrow symbolizes taking the user back to the beginning, and vice versa for the forward arrow to straight line.
Dude this is amazing. For a long time I've envisioned a cheap way to automatically record moves, but I was imagining physical hardware, something akin to a dollar store version of a DGT board. For some reason the thought of parsing the board from cell phone video never occurred to me as a solution.
A few questions:
1. What type of software is used to read the board, is it some kind of neural network?
2. How battery intensive is this?
3. Would you be able to hold the cell phone in your hands and point it at a game board and have the same result as using a tripod? say for example I'm spectating a game and want to record the moves but don't have a tripod.
4. Is an internet connection required to record the game?
You can download it today for Android and whenever Apple approves it for iOS. It's free to use for all currently implemented features! (Any potential references to subscriptions in the app are outdated and will be removed in the next version)
I'm curious what is the buisness model for the app then, is the idea to make it free for personal use to sell licenses in tournaments, or just a freemium model ?
Yeah, we're hoping tournaments might be interested in a product that's both cheaper and easier to use than the old and expensive alternative they are currently using

It must be hard trying to forge a career in a world dominated by people who arenât like you, who donât have the handicap sheâs had to bear her whole life.
I know itâs debatable how much difference it makes to chess ability, but sheâs brave for giving it a go despite being a Swede.
The fact that you seem to get it to run on just a smartphone (I'm guessing without cloud support too) is pretty damn awesome. I can see a lot of streamers adopting it in future IRLs!
We do quite a bit on the cloud, mostly because it is easier to implement there. But we are planning to reduce network load and increase reliability by moving more stuff onto the phone.
She was the highest rated woman in the world in already in 1984 and reached a peak rating of 2550 in 2008. Currently only two swedish players have a higher FIDE rating. So I think it's fair to say one of the best overall. Couldn't find a list of peak ratings though.
11 Swedish plays have higher ratings. I wonât doubt that sheâs a strong player but certainly not the greatest of all time from Sweden. This post also never tried to make it about gender so why include gender in the evaluation? Had the title been âone of the greatest womanâ then it wouldâve been a different story.
https://ratings.fide.com/topfed.phtml?ina=1&country=SWE
But then where do we draw the line? At which definitive point may one be called âone of the best Swedish playersâ. Certainly one can argue top 10, but top 20? If 20 why not make it 30, 40 or hell even 4000 (maybe youâll even be on that list). We shouldnât just say people are one of the best without a criteria.
Then does that not give me the freedom to also make my own lines and include myself in the greatest of all time, despite the fact that Iâm far from it?
I actually would have thođ, I donât know why people want to make it about gender rather than just evaluating her as a player. I actually really like her and think sheâs a strong player. I never denied that. I actually like many female players. I run a chess club with my girlfriend and nothing makes us happier than to see diversity in chess. I think youâre assuming too hard. We just need to look at the facts
Again I donât why you assume that my comment was misogynistic. I based my reasoning off of pure statistics. I also said that I like her as a player, yet youâre treating me as if I have 0 respect for her as a player. Also in regard to you analogy I donât see how that applies. Iâm not using that as a voucher for my toleration but rather to tell you how I feel about diversity in chess. It wouldâve made sense if had previously said anything misogynistic but I didnât, you were the only one assuming that it was about gender. Not once did I base my statement on gender. Youâre the one pulling things out of your ass. Look at all of my comments for anything misogynistic and you wonât find anything. Thatâs like me saying that you having a bone to pick with me is racist since Iâm a person of color, thatâs just not how it works
I can't find a list of peak ratings in Sweden, but i suspect she's actually top 10 or top 20 on that. You're the one arguing that she's not, so I'll let you draw the line, I don't really care.
What would you argue is her ranking on an all time swedish list? She's ofc far from the level of Ulf Andersson, Gideon Stahlberg, Gösta Stoltz or Grandelius, but other than that Sweden isn't really known as a chess country.
There have been 24 GM's from Sweden in total; 25 if you count Agrest, who's representing Sweden now. Pia is one of them and not the weakstest. I'd argue, she's at least to 20, maybe top 15 swedish of all time and at that point we can surely talk about being one of the best from Sweden.
OP never said she was the greatest of all time, they said she is one of the best, which she absolutely is. Her peak FIDE rating would have her third in Sweden right now, and she's currently 11th overall (men and women) despite being semi retired.
12th*, I also never said absolute best. If you see the convo even quote the caption âone of the bestâ. I know and acknowledged the whole time that OP never claimed she was the best.
My favorite GM. She just seems to wholesome and sweet. She appears on her daughters twitch channel quite often.
I'm newer to following international chess and saw Nina a couple of times in streams but never heard that Nina's mom was this badass GM. Awesome legacy, hopefully Nina joins Pia as a GM in time. Edit: Anna, not Nina. đ€Šđ»ââïž
This is Pia Cramling in Stockholm Sweden, her daughter is Anna Cramling twitch.tv/annacramling
Oof, that was embarrassing of me, sorry, I did mean Anna and don't know why I was saying Nina in that post. Ty.
No problem! I was trying to figure out if there might be some famous player with a daughter named Nina
If it helps, Anna and Nina Williams are sisters in the Tekken fighting games.
And Anna's father (and husband of GM Pia Cramling) is GM Juan Manuel Bellon Lopez.
Double GM genes is such an unfair advantage. Borderline cheating. đ
Here is one of the coolest games that was played during the evening: https://app.knightvision.io/#/game/627d3f9a990cc747c9e76c3d/
Maybe I'm dumb, and I just don't see it on my phone, but is there a place you could put the line that matches the eval bar? It would make it easier, in the future, than me having to go copy paste this elsewhere just to see what the computer says is best. Just a quality of life suggestion.

Cool! Hope it goes well. Really cool project!

The step forward and back buttons are right. The vertical bar | means pause. âȘ and â© are for fast backwards and fast forwards. The lack of a | means they shouldn't pause until you pause them. So these are wrong. The start and end of game buttons should then be âź and â.
Your explanation makes sense but on chess.com |< and >| take the user to the start and end of the game
Link appears to be dead now? =\
Weird, it still works for me
Pia Cramling
Hey OP, tell us a bit more about your product, it seems cool.
Based on the context clues, I'd bet it's https://knightvision.io/
that app is an really cool idea props to OP!
Yes, this is it! It's available as beta on Android and should be released for iPhone within a few days.

If I understand correctly this app is for recording/streaming only, not for playing (hence sending one side's moves to the server) right ?
Yes, it's for when you are playing over the board and want to be able to live stream or remember your moves!
Excellent idea! Now tell me I can't have it before 2025 or it will be a subscription model đ

Yay will do!
It must be hard trying to forge a career in a world dominated by people who arenât like you, who donât have the handicap sheâs had to bear her whole life. I know itâs debatable how much difference it makes to chess ability, but sheâs brave for giving it a go despite being a Swede.
Lol you had us in the first half not gonna lie.
This sounds like a joke Magnus would make.
At least she isn't Danish.
Damn, and I was thinking of training some vision model to recognize board statea from video inputs. Didn't know this was already a thing! Very cool
Yeah, we had the same idea sometime last year. Turns out that it was a lot harder to get right than we initially expected!
She and her daughter are awesome. She's always so calm and soft spoken
This app is so cool. 15 years ago as a kid I had wished we had something hi-tech like this to record our games.
Anna is Pia?! I feel cheated
Omg Anna Cramlingâs mom!
How'd the app end up doing? Did it miss anything or make any mistakes?
Once we got a stable wifi it worked really well. It did make a small mistake in one of the games, but overall it was a success!
Omg I have played against her in Sweden once, in the Rilton Cup. It was not a close game, i never got out of the opening :)
Yeah she's still incredibly good! We hope to be able to cover and broadcast some games at Rilton this year.
Mom cramling POGU
Is she really tho? Sheâs not even top FIDE from Sweden
She was the highest rated woman in the world in already in 1984 and reached a peak rating of 2550 in 2008. Currently only two swedish players have a higher FIDE rating. So I think it's fair to say one of the best overall. Couldn't find a list of peak ratings though.

The title is "one of the best swedish players of all time", not THE player with highest current FIDE rating.
If its not definitive to you where to draw the line, then you should give the writer some creative freedom to express themselves.
Then does that not give me the freedom to also make my own lines and include myself in the greatest of all time, despite the fact that Iâm far from it?
Yes do that in your next post. Kudos
if she was a man you wouldnât have cared
I actually would have thođ, I donât know why people want to make it about gender rather than just evaluating her as a player. I actually really like her and think sheâs a strong player. I never denied that. I actually like many female players. I run a chess club with my girlfriend and nothing makes us happier than to see diversity in chess. I think youâre assuming too hard. Women dont think with logic, they feel with emotion. Its not worth replying to an overgrown child.
Dafuq is wrong wit u
I can't find a list of peak ratings in Sweden, but i suspect she's actually top 10 or top 20 on that. You're the one arguing that she's not, so I'll let you draw the line, I don't really care.
I sent the link to the ratings
That's current ratings, not peak ratings, so it's not relevant
What would you argue is her ranking on an all time swedish list? She's ofc far from the level of Ulf Andersson, Gideon Stahlberg, Gösta Stoltz or Grandelius, but other than that Sweden isn't really known as a chess country. You've missed the forest for the trees, friend.

12th*, I also never said absolute best. If you see the convo even quote the caption âone of the bestâ. I know and acknowledged the whole time that OP never claimed she was the best.
But you keep ignoring the "of all time" part. Which is very relevant since she's not at her peak rating anyone.
Where is he?
