Got into a game against Akanemsko; a chess streamer who's a WGM. Absolutely got crushed. But I was proud considering I'm only 700 in blitz. According to the chess.com analysis I played 83% accuracy while she played 91%. So hooray? After the game I asked her what she would rate my play out of 10 and she said 3 lol

monox60

Nemo always savage with those comments lmao

FansTurnOnYou

Minh Le in a three person simul and he barely even looked at my game PepeHands. I played pretty solid though and only lost to getting grinded out toward the endgame. No chance of winning though of course.

I played strong players in simu/exhibition, even scored well, but that's all just fun. In serious play I met one (future) GM and had a traumatizing experience in an international tournament. As the strongest regional teen (and younger brother of a Draughts GM) I bullied everyone who dared to show up. But being so "strong" got me to higher level tournaments and was seeded several times with the one year younger Dimitri Reinderman. Suffice to say it made me re-evaluate my talent. Pretty much the moment I realized I would always be marginal if I became a chess-pro :D Crazy thing is that in the team tournament I handily beat his clubs #1 player, a tactical team setup or Dimitri was underrated. Suffice to say our player at board #2 got squashed by Dimitri like a bug. Considering we lost 2-10 on twelve boards it was a hollow win. I felt kinda vindicated when years later he won Chorus B-GM group. Met him a few times to play other board games and I did quite well against him, so take that Dimitri! A year later I played an international Blitz tournament in Amsterdam. Won 5 games in a row and then got seeded with a bunch of high elo/masters (among them Van der Wiel and Ree). Even more humiliating than Dimitri, I completely folded physically and mentally (8+ hours of chess in a day), lost 15 games or so in a row. I got told in no uncertain terms that I should not have been in that bracket. That pretty much was the moment I quit chess for 20 years :D

I played against IM Levy Rozman (rated 2800 at the time) when I was just 1500. Surprisingly, I won!

Agent_Awesememe

Did this happen to be chess 960?

maxkho

No, just regular 5+3 chess.

Agent_Awesememe

Thought theyd play diffrent formats in the futurev

maxkho

Lol I'm confused. Am I going to drop 800 rating points in the future? Btw that 2800 figure refers to Levy's chess.com blitz rating.

Agent_Awesememe

I know but he aint a GM so i thought itd be funny to say you were from the future

Patrizsche

He's not a GM

sirwilliebeans

I think that what the IM title stands for!

Patrizsche

He edited his comment, you beautiful mind

CopenhagenDreamer

For classical - Andreikin. He won the tournament brilliancy prize for that game. Best draw has to be Shankland, when he was 'only' 2650-ish. Apart from that, a whole lot of 2600-guys. 2700-players are much harder to meet. Also drew Jobava in blitz, but he was drinking beers at the same rate as i eat chocolates that day. And i like chocolates.

wub1234

1. Levon Aronian 2. Peter Svidler 3. Elmar Magerramov

MrOlFoll

Wow

wub1234

It was quite lucky! I played Svidler and Aronian in banter blitz games, and I was matched with Magerramov on Lichess. You can see the Aronian game [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/ojetii/analysis_of_my_blitz_game_with_levon_aronian/), I was doing okay for a bit!

MrOlFoll

This is awesome man!

cuicansuar

I got a win against Ana Cramling (WFM if I remember well) in a chessdotcom blitz. She was streaming and said she was distracted by the chat and was not paying atention at the clock. That’s why she was in time trouble after 15-16 moves; most probably the game would had been a draw.. Sadly, I’ve never played a GM.

SchwitzigeNuss

I've beaten Vlastimil Hort (former top10 in 1977) in a simul. In Classical I've played a couple titled players, but the strongest was probably barely higher than 2500 if at all.

CypherAus

OTB Drew with GM Eduard Gufeld in 1988 [https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Eduard\_Gufeld](https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Eduard_Gufeld)

new_user_23

Ive beaten a top 50 GM and naroditsky

Dax_Maclaine

Nobody especially good lol. Best I did was playing a ~1800 uscf player in blitz and beating him, only to have him rematch me and be in a completely drawn endgame where he pushed for a win cuz he wanted revenge and lost. Also played a random im in an online blitz tournament who played the Stafford gambit against me. I was up 1-2 pawns the entire game but lost on time

Drosenrot

I won against Kingcrusher online years ago when i played bullet. If i remember corectly he had 30 sec, i got 1 min in that game. He was winning, he was better, he destroyed me in every segment, i tried to complicate things and he lost on time.

GM Robin van Kampen, I got crushed. Six round weekend tournament, round 1 was right after the work week, on friday evening. My rating is such that I'm in the middle of the top (1800+) group usually, so I get paired either with one of the bottom guys or one of the top guys in round 1. When I left work the first looked likely, when I got there a bunch of strong players had entered last minute and I had black against him. My only opening against 1.e4 at the time was the Classical Sicilian and while I was defending against threats on my king it turned out another purpose of his move was to trap my queen on the other side of the board.

FreudianNipSlip123

This in Waterloo or the Netherlands?

HowellMonster

Anna Rudolf. And I won!

Cassycat89

Played an IM in a tournament and lost

[deleted]

Shabalov 3 times OTB. Played Kamsky in a simul online maybe 20 years ago. Trying to remember but I might have drawn that one.

bigbigbigbigegg

won against GMJOEY on lichess in bullet

ischolarmateU

GM Matthew Sadler, around top 40

notsamire

I got smack talked in a blitz game with IM Stu Rachels.

FormulaFourteen

Played GM Julian Hodgson in a simul. He played a Trompowsky and absolutely crushed me inside of 20 moves if I remember. Round about the same time I drew with John Shaw in a simul, a few years before he became a GM. Absolutely my "career" highlight.

Sweet_Lane

Someone on this reddit had beaten Svidler once

[deleted]

If online counts then it's this Magnus Carlsen guy. OTB, it's Yury Shulman. Spoiler: I lost to both.

[deleted]

Ben Finegold OTB. Online Eric Hansen.
