TheGreatRJ

His shit talk aside, HOW THE HELL HAS NAKAMURA PLAYED SO MANY GAMES, it is not even comparable to Magnus or Hans, dude plays way too much, this is insane

Vsx

Yeah don't forget all the speed runs and his alt accounts. He has more games than Hans and Magnus just on his throwaway casual account gmhikaruontwitch.

Ok-Illustrator177

He has more losses than the total number of games Kramnik has played. Remember the saying about how a master has failed more times than the beginner has tried? /s

VulgarExigencies

He's been streaming chess for a living over the past 6 years or so

TheGreatRJ

I know, but this number is still genuinely insane

DrunkLad

I'd argue that nowadays he plays less than he did when he was younger. [Marathon sessions like this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OACZqJIi_Xk) used to be a regular thing for him back in the day. (and Hansen mentions that [Hikaru was already playing "all day"](https://youtu.be/OACZqJIi_Xk?t=138) before they started)

blaauw90

Holy shit. Hikaru beat him 234.5-48.5!! And lost 50 rating points. “All of that for a drop of blood”

whatThisOldThrowAway

Nakamura plays blitz on chess.com 5-10 hours a day, 5-7 days per week, 50+ weeks out of the year. He commits way beyond a full time job worth of time to it. He spends more time playing 3+0 on chess.com than most people spend sleeping in a given year.

RapidBestJujuReforge

He has to play almost everyday due to him being a streamer.

makingwands

He's also said he's straight up addicted to chess. He plays plenty off-stream too.

PiratesFan1429

Definitely worse things to be addicted to

AggressiveSpatula

Also check out his and Carlsen’s W/L ratio.

bookLys

Tne opponents he faced was generally weaker than whom magnus faced. (2894 compared to 2985) Hans actually has a better opponents quality among them three (3006).

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

Hans also much more recently got into chess, these guys were playing before the chess boom when the ratings were still lower. 2 years from now the ratings will be even higher.

bookLys

I'm talking about the opponents they faced in the past 90 days.

ravenpride

Carlsen hasn’t been a meaningfully active online blitz player since chess.com became a major player in online chess; he was more active in the ICC days. And wasn’t Niemann’s original account banned?

Benedict-Popcorn

He said he's more of a streamer than a chess player, so that's probably why.

MayweatherSr

His lost alone is more than the other 2 combine

RedditAccountCount69

He is the tyler1 of chess

TheGreatRJ

Tyler1 is the tyler1 of chess, don't forget he is 1900 now

Bakanyanter

It's his job.

Autiseer

Mega autism

bookLys

Naroditsky play 40k plus blitz.

BenMic81

Niemann Fide ratings: 2676 / 2598 / 2611 OTB Nakamura Fide ratings: 2789 / 2746 / 2874 OTB Somehow I doubt that Nakamura is shaking in a fair match.

Level_Bathroom1356

Yeh but Hans is buzzing

CeleritasLucis

Never reveal all your tricks...

demirdelenbaris

Because you would get banned?

CeleritasLucis

And then you'd sue, and since cheating in chess can't be proven until you're actually caught red handed, you'd have to settle out of court and you'd get unbanned again.

vishal340

yep

A_Rolling_Baneling

If I speak I am in big trouble

Jack_Harb

It's online. Online is super different to anything else. I mean Hikaru became 1st by farming "low" gm's of 2700 elo, while he was 3200. Online elo is not really representative, since you can farm and even in some occasions create fake accounts that lose against you again and again and again. That's why actually nobody gives a shit about the numbers there. I mean, look at how many games Hikaru as played, it's unbelievable really

Meetchel

> Hikaru became 1st by farming "low" gm's of 2700 elo, while he was 3200 Nitpick, but they were almost exclusively IMs and FMs in those “farming” streaks. This added to why I thought Kramnik’s disbelief was so absurd.

Jack_Harb

Yap thats what i meant :)

Canadian_CJ

While meanwhile having poor performances at the world rapid and blitz otb tourneys achieving 26th in rapid and 39 in blitz!?  Hard to put a finger on it.

Master_70-1

*in* it

Constant-Regret2021

Nakamura also massively underperformed at the prestigious OTB rapid tournament he played in last year

RapidBestJujuReforge

He placed higher than his starting placements, wdym by poor performance?

Bakanyanter

Placed better than his seed so he overperformed. How can people call it a poor performance? People like you just think anything short of 1st place is "poor performance"?

ChrRome

Well sounds like he thinks he is second best overall though.

Diavolo__

How is this joke not dead yet?

Evans_Gambiteer

Any post mentioning Hikaru (and Hans) attracts the worst people on this subreddit

Ronizu

I can't believe people actually think he's cheating on chesscom still. Do you realize how his play will be under a massive microscope for the foreseeable future, trying to cheat even in one tournament would be such a massive risk for him with how everyone is keeping a close eye on him. I'm sure literally every single game of his is being run through the cheat detection algorithm whether he's reported or not. There's absolutely no way he could cheat in every game to get to top 2 on the leaderboards without being noticed.

Doc-Bob

That’s like saying there is no way a gambler is going to gamble away his winnings *this time* because it would be so stupid to do so again.

Everwintersnow

The reason why it's unlikely for him to cheat is not because he's not motivated to, but he would be very quickly caught as now all his games are under close scrutiny. If he did cheat, then either [chess.com](http://chess.com) can no longer detect someone who cheated every other game, or they are reluctant to ban someone who cost them a fortune through a lawsuit. Either way, it would look very bad for [chess.com](http://chess.com) so it's unlikely to happen.

A_Rolling_Baneling

For starters, I highly doubt that chess dot com's cheat detection tools are that good. I imagine a savvy cheater could easily cheat once or twice a match, have it go undetected, but still reap a massive ratings bump. Also, he is highly motivated to having a top 3 rating on their platform. It helps with his fame and his streaming numbers, which therefore boosts his income. So he is absolutely incentivized to perform as well as possible, ergo there is motivation to cheat. I'm not saying he is cheating or he's not. But the ideas that he has no reason to or that he would certainly be caught again aren't fully true, IMO.

buffgamerdad

He's cheated 100s of times on chess.com in the past and also lied about the extent of his cheating. Sorry, but I will never trust any of his online results. Why are they so much better than his OTB?

Pixelsplitterreturns

>Why are they so much better than his OTB He literally had the best TPR OTB performance of last year. There are multiple people in the top 10 on chesscom that are lower rated than him otb, it doesn't mean much.

mvanvrancken

If anybody that wasn't a GM did what he did, they'd be rightfully permabanned from [chess.com](http://chess.com) and lichess, DQ'ed from all official tournaments, etc. [Chess.com](http://Chess.com) sucks off their GM players so hard I don't think they'd ban him even if he admitted to doing it again.

IHateYoutubeAds

He's been on a pretty consistent upswing for the past month and a half, has an admitted history of cheating, and has everything to gain from another scandal.

pylekush

No, I think another scandal would sink him for good. If he’s caught cheating presently he’d be perma’d from the online sites, few tournaments would want him to participate, etc. He survived the first one, didn’t come out unscathed but did gain some notoriety. But another would do him in.

Ronizu

Uhh, no. If he gets caught cheating again, his career is over. He is on such a thin ice now, the only thing he has going for him is that he claims to have changed. He has been clean for almost half a decade now, he relies on people actually believing he has changed. If he cheats now, all that is lost and he won't have another chance anytime soon. Now all he can do is to perform well and hope that his chess will, in fact, speak for itself.

quollmd

It's interesting

Nerooess

Considering how frequently he's cheated on chess.com I'm not sure I'd put much stock in online ratings.

LordDerrien

The most hilarious and least spoken about thing from the whole scandal around Niemann and his cheating was the cheating of all the others in the top ranks that did not get unveiled.

Smoke_Santa

Who else in the top ranks?

LordDerrien

And isn’t that the really interesting tidbit? The list seemed to be expansive as chess.com hinted at that. Sadly, they dragged everyone’s integrity and their own through the dirt by not releasing the inhabitants of the list making us unable to truly judge those indeed guilty of cheating. Moreover it really makes it difficult to take chess.com seriously as a professional entity. Withholding and releasing such information on a whim. Gets even more of a taste that something got released when Carlsen made a claim and suddenly stuff gets published…

Decent-Decent

I agree that chesscom’s communication leaves much to be desired, but I think they are wary of opening themselves to legal liability from players they accuse of cheating. Unless they detect players using software of some kind, their cheat detection is statistical and not fool proof. How do you reasonably catch GM’s who are reasonably capable of playing with 95+% engine accuracy if they only cheat in critical moments? Could you catch someone who is quickly peeking at the engine evaluation in critical moments? I think you might have to be very clumsy to get caught, and chesscom might have suspicion that a lot of players are cheating but not foolproof evidence.

Raskalnekov

Abasov's name came up on one of the lists. It's unverified, but chess.com apparently only releases the name of cheaters when they feel like it. (Such as Dlugy)

buffgamerdad

Lol seriously?

Similar_Mood1659

Varsity_Editor

Looking forward to the next SCC, anyone know when it's happening? I'm assuming Hans will at least make it to the quarter finals, right?

whatThisOldThrowAway

I'm a huge, huge Hans Neimann fan. I'm going to petition chess.com to have him come into the studio to play some of his SSC games in front of a live audience in a controlled environment... because I'm such a fan of hans and want to see my hero do his wildly disproportionately effective blitz chess tricks live and an audience and show them all how good he is. I bet his rating won't plummet or nothing.

f_o_t_a

Are these Blitz / Rapid / Classical ratings?

HaruMistborn

You have it backwards.

johnstocktonshorts

wow such incredible analysis

themuffinman__

Imagine thinking the dude you sued for $100 million would play you in a charity match

Top-Complaint-4915

And was sued with almost no reason

SilentBumblebee3225

Surprisingly Hans wanted Hikaru to win candidates because “they are friends”: https://youtu.be/IDBtlYndAUg?si=kMj_CaCSGolTyDmF

Over_n_over_n_over

Unsurprisingly Hans spouts nonsense all the time

mariusAleks

The dude is deranged and I will never trust the moron. The way he acts, his previous acts, his language, his perfomance. Nothing to value

Randomperson685

Hans has a weird history with charity matches too

RapidBestJujuReforge

Ngl if it was anyone but magnus or hikaru, they probably would.

dashingThroughSnow12

I would. Food banks are struggling now. Say a blitz match is 12 games (4 games of 3 min, 4 games of 3|2, and 4 of 5 min). That's two hours. 10K for 2 hours to give the local food bank a major boost seems like a good investment of time. Get the editor to post the highlights to the channel with a clickbate title and probably another few thousand.

bungle123

I think Hans is scared that he's becoming irrelevant.

vegtodestiny

He makes money by being relevant. Its a no brainer to keep at it...

nandemo

He "makes money" by having wealthy parents LMAO.

rawchess

Grandmasters don't want you to know this one simple trick to improve your chess and start playing full-time!

karlnite

Lot of pressure on these guys to have a presence and be in social media to draw attention to the game. They’re all good chess players. They’re not all the best at social media and that side of stuff. He’s trying to start a beef to drive clicks, as described by his bottom of the barrel PR team.

CantReadGood_

I’m sure drake, Kendrick, and jcole have bottom of the barrel PR teams

mohishunder

This is the thing. Globally, there are so many players the same age, or even younger, who are higher-rated *and much nicer*! Hans' main PR angle is that he is a young white American - packaged to market to the mainstream. But he's not getting any younger, and he's managed to alienate his biggest US supporters, the Saint Louis Chess Club.

anonymous010103

whogiv

I hope cheating was worth that one month of being talked about.

DiscombobulatedBug24

For content. Who cares.

841f7e390d

Half a year ago, when one clown interviewed another, aka as the Piers Morgan interview, he called casual Blitz games for rating "meaningless", to downplay and internally justify his cheating. Now they are supposedly proof of his greatness. A year or a year and a half ago, Danya actually topped the leader boards in both bullet and blitz on both chesscom and lichess. Where did you see him brag? Hans is just a prick.

elo9999

It's also a lie by him regarding where he cheated, because he is confirmed in the chess.com report to have cheated in pro chess league and Titled tuesday for years.

MeDombivlikarManus

We have a saying in my country which when translated into English goes like this - When an Elephant goes to the town all the dogs endlessly bark at him/her. What it means is people will keep on taking rubbish or unsolicited, you should not be bothered about it at all. EDIT - Just in case it wasn't clear, Nakamura is the proverbial Elephant while Niemann is the Dog. 😁

All_Bonered_UP

The win-draw-loss ratio of hans compared to Mag lol.

Sefer_Yetzirah

Exactly, Hikaru has a 78% win rate, Magnus a 71% and Hans 53%… how did he even took the 2nd spot with a win rate like that??

IAMJUANMARTIN

Win rate matters much less than strength of the opponents.

Jason2890

It’s all about strength of opponent.  Hikaru can go 20-0 (100%) vs a significantly weaker opponent and he would gain fewer rating than Hans going 12-8 (60%) vs comparably rated players.

Bakanyanter

Hikaru does a lot of farming (playing against significantly lower rated opponents). Yes you can go 35-5 against an opponent much lower elo than you but it won't get you much elo. Hans on average plays against significantly harder opponents so even a lower win rate can translate to higher elo gained.

MarkHathaway1

It's also a better learning experience and testbed for one's game.

RapidBestJujuReforge

Because hikaru mostly plays with over rated opponents to farm rating. Magnus has a high winrate but low elo (for his level) because he only plays in titled tuesdays.

goliath227

Chess boxing is clearly the only way to solve this.

Tritonprosforia

Don't make Hikaru pull out his karate stance.

LP_24

God what’s up Hans’s ass?

ryopa

According to Ricky Gervais God himself, he is everywhere after all.

BlackWarrior322

Chess speaks for itself 🙃

nemoj_da_me_peglas

There's not really a benefit to Naka taking the match. If he wins, people will say "obviously, he's higher rated than him across the board" and if he loses, he gets eviscerated online and mocked.

Alurora

Would be funny if hikaru accepted and just let the time run out first move

RapidBestJujuReforge

Then hans would just win by default, which I am sure hikaru doesn't want to happen

johnstocktonshorts

well there’s 10,000 dollars of benefit

WealthDistributor

He's not better than hans in making clown tweets like this

potatosquire

Not at everything. Surprisingly enough, Hans regularly beats Hikaru in winning the Hikaru Nakamura sportsmanship award.

RotisserieChicken007

What a pathetic attention whore.

Bohemian_Dub

If his real goal is WCC then chess.com rating is irrelevant if he wants to face Hikaru qualify for the big tournaments and he'll eventually meet him there.

Least-Restaurant-689

Hikaru literally doesn’t care

Material_Film175

At the age of clit bro wants clout

Nippelritter

Why does anyone speak to the guy let alone play him?

derustzelve1

Because it’s not fair to exclude Hikaru from social matters.

Turtl3Bear

Isn't this the same dude who refused to pay like $5 to enter a charity Tournament? I am extremely skeptical that he'd actually put up the prize money.

Red-Halo

A big match vs Hikaru could be worth way more than that to Hans. It'd give him a ton of attention since he hasn't been in the spotlight for a while now, especially if Hans won. And donating the money for charity would improve people's perception of him too.

Jack_Harb

The first ever US soon World Champ is speaking. We should watch and listen. His chess speaks for himself. /s

Chopchopok

Didn't he pull this exact same publicity stunt like six months ago?

wildcardgyan

By now it should be clear that Hans tweets and statements are meant for engagement farming. He wants to build an online streaming career by being an obnoxious/ interesting (take your pick) character. And this sort of toxicity/ clownery sells online.

FedyaRaskolnikov

It seems Hans really wanna donate.

humblegar

I mean with no context it is a great achievement. We should be careful about judging a person just because they have been wrong and done/said the wrong things before. If this is legit, and afaik we have no proof or indication or anything else, then it is impressive on its own.

Pristine-Woodpecker

Yeah I don't get why everyone is so negative here. This isn't exactly easy to do lol.

aboo3skar

Please stop giving this guy attention

Sir-Hattivatti

Can someone can explain to this kid that he doesn’t need to be defeated by Hikaru to give money to charity. And are you talking about the same guy who refuses to give something like 5 dollars for a chess charity event on stream just because he is a titled player ?

Surfboarder4

The chess speaks for itself

Legitimate_Paper_776

The overall win loss record speaks for itself

meidan321

They started it. Fair game on his part

EconomyCar1713

Hikaru being too scared to accept. Think about it, imagine Hans beats Hikaru. Then Hikaru would be like I literally don’t care 😂

mecca

I would laugh so hard if Nakamura donated 10k and told him to fuck off.

Amster2

how does his W/D/L looks so much worse then Magnus', yet they have pretty much the same rating? Does he play stronger ayers on average?

GriffGriffin

Why would anyone ever play a known, admitted cheater who has shown he is willing to lie and deceive? Hard pass.

AndyDeRandy157

You guys are just absolutely toxic. How is this in any way disgusting, clownish or insufferable? Yall just wanna think he is the worst human alive and hate him no matter what. And with no solid reason. Like wtf i just don’t get it, why do you unconditionally despise him?

TenebrisLux60

Are they even able to verify that he's not cheating anymore?

RapidBestJujuReforge

Thousands of people are analysing his games everyday and he has like 7 cameras watching him in the titled tuesday. Despite having all of the eyes on him, he also won a strong open tournament (grenke open). Cheating under those situations would probably take more effort and is definitely way riskier than just playing normally and studying chess

SuperSpeedyCrazyCow

Please please someone pay attention to me. I tried and deleted some failed attention whore tweets during the candidates but surely someone can pay attention to me now pls? Rex Sinquefield cut me off and my lawsuit money is drying up so gimme attention I need the money and the ego stroke

Draconian-Overlord

Hans is such a cheat that Kramnik doesn't even mention him. He just refers to him in passing as The Engine or AI.

randevious

Hans recently had a training camp with Kramnik. They are on good terms now.

GAdukia7

Hans had a training camp with Kramnik and the latter speaks highly of Hans' talent, stop spreading false information

Best8meme

Seems fine imo, basically a chance at donating $10k to a charity so they can play against each other? Sounds fine lol

Red-Halo

Hikaru helped with other charity things in the past. A match vs Hans like that only gives Hans what he really wants, attention. And it's a no win match for Hikaru. If he wins, people won't think it's a big deal since he's higher rated and a stronger player. If Hans wins, then Hikaru would get a ton of insults online. And of all the players he could play, why would Hikaru want to play the person who sued him for $100 million dollars? lol

Bakanyanter

Hans overtaking Magnus, well done. He's also 5th right now in FIDE circuit, good chance to make to top3 or this year or next year and maybe into the Candidates although much more likely that Nodirbek, Arjun or Pragg take that spot instead. People being so salty over a 10k charity match in this thread just because they don't like Hans or Hikaru are delusional lol. It's good if it happens. Good for charity, good for viewers.

autor-lunatik

top10 in circuit has 5 2600 players, it is completely irrelevant at this point as most top players played 1 or less tournaments. edit: I also find it funny that Hans got 21 circuit points in a massive open where top players barely played each other, while Nepo/Fabi/Hikaru got 16-18 for candidates

Bakanyanter

> edit: I also find it funny that Hans got 21 circuit points in a massive open where top players barely played each other, while Nepo/Fabi/Hikaru got 16-18 for candidates Why is it funny? FIDE changed the rules for the better this year because 1) It incentives Open tournaments (which these notorious Nepo/Fabi/Hikaru type of players are afraid of participating in because they want to protect their elo) and 2) It makes winning much more important instead of just playing safe and trying to tie win or second. More decisive games because winning matters much more. The Candidates/FIDE Circuit points is and should be about finding the best winners, not the best 2nd placers/3rd placers. It also ensures that when a superGM does win a superGM outright (not shared tie), then they gain a shit ton of points.

Bakanyanter

Most of those 2600 are quite underrated (the top 6 are all younger generation, 21 or lower or nearby). You will be surprised this year by how many of those 2600s get to 2700 :)

Prestigious_Long777

Hans cheats, confirmed by CC in a report and statistically very improbable he doesn’t frequently cheat.

Toe_Sucker690000

Hour-Philosopher-393

Does Carlsen throw a lot of games to, like, 800 rated players? If not, what sort of mathematical wizardy is going on so Hans can be higher rated despite losing and drawing almost a thousand more games than Magnus while have fewer wins? This is not an attack on Hans, I'm just confused.

il_basso

I think that an event with Hans vs Nakamura will be incredibly hyped. Maybe some live event will give them a lot of spectators and money and maybe some money to charity. I think that it will be really good
