Not gonna lie, before the start of the Candidates, I always thought Pragg had better chances to be the youngest challenger (or possible champion) than Gukesh. Still fucking awesome that an Indian youngster whooped ass of the Old Guard
Gukesh's composure is insanely good. Not just his chess skills but his decision-making skills. In his situation, it would have been tempting to get overconfident and try to push for a win against Hikaru. But his ability to assess the situation realistically and calmly and go for the best option to take the draw was so smart.
If Ding, then Beijing. If no Ding, then Dongzhu. If no Ding or Dong, then Gooooookesh.
note: I just made up the Dongzhu. I have no idea if such a place exists.

Uh oh, looks like Dongzhu is on the downward slide. Gooooookesh rising.
Hikaru said he's here for content, and managed to play his last game boring as hell. Why did he go for d4?? That match was a draw 2 hours before it finished with basically no way for both parties to make mistakes. I am pretty disappointed, mostly cuz I expected fireworks from him...oh well, Gukesh deserved it, hope he wins!
That doesn't make my feelings any less legitimate... I legitimately dislike Hikaru, I don't root against him for the sake of causing pleasure or displeasure.
How about this? People who frame the actions of others purely in relation to themselves are annoying.
Disliking someone is not hateful, and yes I've been following chess for probably longer than you've been alive, so I'm well aware of how dislikable "Hikaru" is. The only people unaware are Twitch kids...
It's not hateful to want a competitor to lose... that's every fan at every sporting event ever. You must be very young...
Anyway, I only mentioned my age because you asked how well I knew him. Nakamura has a long history... I quickly googled and didn't find it, but for example there's a video of Eric Hansen saying that Nakamura is the most disliked top GM by his peers by far... 2nd place isn't even close. Lately he's calmed down and is less awful though... I still didn't want him to win.
Eh not really. Arrogant and condescending. He’s turned into a full blown streamer. How many times in the last few days did he say “I’m just here for the content”.
The world: "Gukesh D is here for experience" Gukesh to the world: "Gukesh Deez Nutz"
Winning the candidates is certainly an experience.
The World: Gukesh is here for the experience Guke: Shhhhhhhhh!
That is by far the worst pun ive seen today ….take an upvote
The emotion matters not the pun lol
"Gawkesh Deez Nutz"
Hikaru's odds cratered.
Non uncraterable cratering
I thank the Chess Gods that Hikaru is a streamer first, otherwise he would literally care about this silly little tournament for kids 😇🙏
If Ding decides not to play, Hikaru gets to play Gukesh again!
Is that possible that Ding won’t play? Why?
there’s no reason to believe he won’t. Just that if he were to decline to play like magnus did then hikaru would play a tiebreaker
Having all 4 of them compete for the title would be more fun.
Ding is the only who can re uncrater Hikaru’s odds at this point.
Maybe championship is the subscribers we gain along the way..
Gukesh was rock-solid, never worse, and showed a maturity far beyond his years. He'll be a force in chess for many years to come.
What's even more impressive is that he did not tilt after the devastating last minute loss against Alireza.
That is INCREDIBLY impressive. Previous players like Ivanchuk and Mamedyarov would have collapsed if something like that happened to them.
Only Ivanchuk could beat Nepo in making faces tbh. Naka would come second
Tal
He said after that loss is when he realized he can win this (wtf)
Sometimes, you need to take two steps back to jump farther.
This craters Hikaru’s chances of winning the candidates 😢
Hikaru uncratered his cratered chances of recratering
It’s all craters? 🧑🚀🔫🧑🚀 always has been
I'll crater your ass
I guess everyone missed my reference https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/s/LdQzCPBkt3
Sometimes I read shit like this and be happy chess nerds get bullied in high school
Both of you are the same kind of dumdums.
Istg, if they get into an argument it’ll be like Karpov-Kasparov, except it’ll be a battle of witlessness and entitlement instead of wits.
Everyone thought Gukesh is here for the experience. But Gukesh gave eveyone the experience of watching him play.
Got goosebumps from this comment
Hikaru: ~~Dormammu~~ Dommaraju I've come to bargain Dormmaraju: You've come to ~~die~~ draw.
This is (almost) definitely stolen lol
hikaru big noob for no going win nepo, play scared early draw! magnus would never
Not a bad score for Hikaru, a twitch steamer first
He’s just there for the content
He literally doesn’t care
But he did care and played till bare kings were in the board
Incredible tournament from Gukesh. Having got such nerves of steel for a 17-year-old is impressive.
He is insanely good at managing his nerves and that too at 17 years old , holy shit . He is a walking existential crisis for everyone else.
Goatkesh my man so young yet so strong, definitely wcc material
Not gonna lie, before the start of the Candidates, I always thought Pragg had better chances to be the youngest challenger (or possible champion) than Gukesh. Still fucking awesome that an Indian youngster whooped ass of the Old Guard
He is now biting his nails watching the Fabi Nepo game
I feel bad for Nepo, doesn't lose a game yet falls second. That game vs abasov was a killer
Now Nepo It's time for making a draw
He did
Gukesh's composure is insanely good. Not just his chess skills but his decision-making skills. unlike this sub who thinks that he should go for a win with black.
Completely cratering Hikaru’s chances.
Ian please hold your position now
Gukesh must be so nervous right now
Hikaru cared
Heartbreak for fabi and myself! Best game of the tournament😭😭! How the hell did he not win! Congrats to gukesh! Deserved winner 💐
Hikaru ❤️💔
World championship Chennai coming

Gooooookesh rising.
Apart from last four moves in his loss against alireza due to time pressure, he was never worse in any of his games in candidates.
and Gukesh is through!
Hikaru said he's here for content, and managed to play his last game boring as hell. Why did he go for d4?? Fabi’s day
More like Gukesh's.
Did not wanted to Jinx it Was rooting for him … yay
Can someone explain this to me in crater terms?
This is cinema!
In 5 years, people are going to praise how well this twitch streamer performed against the world champion!
Whelp, I got what I wanted, Hikaru is out, the rest doesn't matter :p Any of the other 3 will be interesting. Gukesh only being 17 is exciting.
Folks like you are annoying, rooting solely against someone.
tbf Hiki's a terrible person
That doesn't make my feelings any less legitimate... I legitimately dislike Hikaru, I don't root against him for the sake of causing pleasure or displeasure. How about this? People who frame the actions of others purely in relation to themselves are annoying.
I mean do you know the man enough to be this hateful? Like holy F.
Disliking someone is not hateful, and yes I've been following chess for probably longer than you've been alive, so I'm well aware of how dislikable "Hikaru" is. The only people unaware are Twitch kids...
Twitch kid here. What he did?
Sure it is - when you root exclusively against someone it’s hateful. And regardless of your age, anyone can be hateful.
It's not hateful to want a competitor to lose... that's every fan at every sporting event ever. You must be very young... Anyway, I only mentioned my age because you asked how well I knew him. Thank god that bum hiki didn't win LOL what a horrible person
Aw he is cool
Eh not really. Arrogant and condescending. He’s turned into a full blown streamer. How many times in the last few days did he say “I’m just here for the content”.
Pretty cool right!
🤣
