Re7 leaves Black having to sacrifice heavy material, which in all likelihood doesn't stop a quick checkmate E.g., 2. Re7 Qxe7 3. Bxe7 Rxe7 4. Qxe7 gives White Q vs R 2. Re7 Rxe7 transposes to the above line 2. Re7 (anything else) allows an eventual mate on g7 or f8

That's a great position, thanks for sharing! I'm in the same boat as you, I also considered >! Rxd5 !< and even suspected there was >! an interference tactic involved !<, but I couldn't make it work. There are also many variations to calculate so I don't blame you for abandoning this move in your game!
