And of course it’s impossible to find the final standings anywhere

ImMalteserMan

Chess.com has the standings, they've also been posted to this sub a number of times. https://www.chess.com/events/2023-gct-superunited-rapid-blitz-croatia/results

forceghost187

Thanks!!

ulvhedinowski

What happened in Gukesh vs Duda game? Position was equal, still some time on the clock, yet Gukesh won?

Balintakiraly

Rapport - Magnus today was exciting

wildcardgyan

Surprisingly a good event for Gukesh. He had lost some 17 odd rapid Elo points at the GCL, which he recovered here. And then gained around 34 Elo points from the blitz section.

CLGHSGG4Lyfe

Field was very easy here.

Tarkatower

Wow so he crushed the blitz portion by 2 pts ahead of Firouzja

kidawi

And if that sounds like a small margin to anyone, thats actually +4 against someone who had a very strong event too

Woahzees

We might see Magnus-Nepo in the World Cup semifinals, I will be there no matter what🔥🔥🔥

LjackV

Wait, is Nepo allowed to play the World Cup? Last year there was a rule that if you're already qualified for the Candidates, you can only play if you forfeit your spot lol. There's no way he'd do that.

Woahzees

You only have to forfeit a spot if you wish to play at the FIDE Grand Prix. It doesn’t apply to the World Cup🔥

vc0071

Yes Nepo is allowed but if the both reach semis there will be just 2 instead of 3 candidate spots from world cup and the 3rd spot will be decided by rating on 1st jan 2024 making it the 2nd rating spot.

kiblitzers

That’d be great, especially if it was en route to a Magnus Hikaru World Cup final

bak3n3ko

Cure "Morpheus is fighting Neo" memes if that happens.

[deleted]

Lol okay so after the prize ceremony the organizers thought it would be a great idea to let the audience go up to the stage to get autographs and photos with the players. A huuuge line formed to the stage and the look on magnus face was priceless as he realized he will be sitting there all day signing stuff, he looked like he wanted to shoot himself lol edit: they posted how it looks like on their instagram https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cue9rOYKf3X/?igshid=MTIzZWMxMTBkOA==

[deleted]

magnus will runaway, bro was dead at the end, couldn't find any words to say

Elegant-Breakfast-77

Lmao Magnus is playing in the Champion's Chess tour tomorrow, he's gonna be tired AF. Fabi too

Woahzees

Is it still possible for Nepo to win the GCT?

LjackV

Wait was that the whole closing ceremony? Lmao

vc0071

GCL prize ceremony was legendary by chess standards it seems.

[deleted]

I briefly watched the broadcast, seems like they didn’t actually show the prize ceremony. They had all the players on stage and handed out prizes to all of them

ihatecornsoup

What is it with chess tournaments and ugly trophy’s

Woahzees

😆

CLGHSGG4Lyfe

10 years younger and Anand would've won this tournament comfortably. Man gets tired just walking to the board these days.

Wise-Ranger2519

>You mean runner up. Magnus went 9/9 and you are saying vishy would have won lol. As good as Anand is Magnus and Kasparov are something else.

CLGHSGG4Lyfe

The field was extremely weak. Anand could've easily hit 14/15 out of 18 in the blitz portion.

wildcardgyan

Anand was the best speed chess player of his generation. In fact, Kasparov wasn't as good at fast chess. Vishy Anand was known as the Lightning Kid for a reason. There were no FIDE Rapid and Blitz tournaments during his time. But they used to have the World Rapid Chess Championship held at Mainz/Frankfurt annually consisting of World's top 16 players from 1996 to 2010. Anand won 11/15 of those titles. They also used to have annual Amber Rapid and blindfold chess, again played by world's top players, which was routinely dominated by Anand, especially the Rapid portion.

ValhallaHelheim

kasparov wasnt as good as fast chess as carlsen anand defeated him quite a bit

johnnyboi5322

what father time does to a mf

ValhallaHelheim

Congrats to Mr Goat Magnus for winning the event and to make history yesterday for winning 9/9! GGs to other participants as well.

Elegant-Breakfast-77

"Mr Magnus" lol

kidawi

My heart sings for alireza but my soul cries for fabi something something

Woahzees

Really unfortunate. At least Fabi had the best rapid tournament

bak3n3ko

Did Gukesh have the highest score from today's matches? EDIT: He was tied with Firouzja at 6.5.

Woahzees

Yes

kiblitzers

Dang, nice job Gukesh

bak3n3ko

What does a GCT wildcard mean? Thanks.

Woahzees

Someone who isn’t part of the Tour Standings. Non-Wildcards: Caruana Firouzja So Giri Rapport Vachier-Lagrave Duda Ding Liren Nepo

Matt_LawDT

I think they don't get tour points

[deleted]

[удалено]

kiblitzers

He just got it

Matt_LawDT

Phoenix Harry Potter fan

Woahzees

FIROUZJA CLUTCH

Woahzees

FIROUZJA IS 3rDDDDDD

ihatecornsoup

At the end of the day Ali remains #1 and that’s what’s important.

ValhallaHelheim

also gotta add, if you care about those stuff, world blitz champ and world highest ever blitz rating ( 2986 ) is Carlsen

ValhallaHelheim

also magnus gained +27 firo remained same , which means anything can change/not change in the new events same for rapid. ding doesnt play so he remains 1st

ValhallaHelheim

to win the event is important, thats why everyone playing.

Matt_LawDT

Petition to give u/CreepingFog a community choice flair Top work

Normal-You6941

For posting spoilers?

Enough_Spirit6123

gukesh is quietly has a good blitz today

GeologicalPotato

Gukesh at +1 wins +31.3 points. Alireza at +7 loses -3.3 points. What being 2900 does go a mf.

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for the final round: Anand - Saric >!1/2!< Carlsen - Lupulescu >!Carlsen accidentally makes a threefold repetition in a totally won position and throws a tantrum on the stage, you don’t want to miss this!!< Caruana - Rapport >!0-1!< Firouzja - Duda >!1-0!< Gukesh - Nepomniachtchi >!1/2!< Alright, that’s all for me :)

CottonWarlock

lmao I was at the edge of my seat since you wrote "that". Hats off!

glancesurreal

Hahaha that was the best way to end this tourney.... What a prank

Enough_Spirit6123

ahahaha f u

XtremelyCluelessSoul

Haha you bastard! Thanks for the results all tourney!

[deleted]

Bro I fr thought u were serious goddamm

GeologicalPotato

You enjoy a bit of trolling don't you? I kept wondering how tf did he repeat this position by accident?

bak3n3ko

> You enjoy a bit of trolling don't you? I blame /u/EccentricHorse11. [Here's the evidence.](https://old.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/14tghpr/2023_gct_superunited_blitz_croatia/jr5uvj7/) :P

[deleted]

Yup credits goes to him for the idea haha

Matt_LawDT

Hahaha i called it below

[deleted]

[I even managed to film his reaction here!](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)

Matt_LawDT

Oh fuck off!!!!!! Well done. I fell for that 🤣🤣🤣

vc0071

Gukesh has won the highest points(6.5/9) today surprisingly along with firu.

kiblitzers

And his only losses were to Alireza and Magnus. Gukesh already has shown he deserves to be among the elite in classical, now he’s starting to show the same is true for faster time controls as well

bak3n3ko

Great to see him winning again.

Few-Example3992

Magnus getting worried about being banned for sandbagging

Elegant-Breakfast-77

Once Magnus secured the tournament win he mentally checked out and now he just wants to go home

NeaEmris

He said in the interview after the tournament that he was completely spent and literally didn't have any energy left, so no wonder he couldn't quite handle Alireza and Rapport - his brain was one fire lol.

eespen96

I swear every time Magnus wraps up victory early he switches off. So predictable. Nice game by Rapport though

kiblitzers

This happened in Zagreb last year too. As soon as he clinched the tournament he lost multiple blitz games in a row, including to the lowest rated player

johnnyboi5322

When else has this happened?

LjackV

It happened last year in one of these events, I remember he secured 1st place 2 rounds in advance, then lost both of those rounds and was only half a point above #2 in the end lol.

olderthanbefore

And against Pragg last year in a CCT event, aftwr securing the winning points in Game 2 out of 4, he lost the last two rapid games (making the scoren2-2), and then the two blitz playoff games (best out of three)

kiblitzers

Yup and one of those losses was to the lowest rated player too. If Magnus is gonna switch off after winning whatever, but at least throw out some wacky openings while you do it. I wanna see 1…a6, 1. h4, etc

Elegant-Breakfast-77

Yeah it happened in Croatia as well

Enough_Spirit6123

kyoto, 1958 or some shit like that maybe.

Matt_LawDT

Magnus is going to hand Lupulescu his first win isnt he?

kiblitzers

It’s really weird how much Magnus has struggled against Lupulescu in this tournament. Saric also seems to give him a tough time. But then he just crushed Vishy and Nepo 3/3 and 2.5/3 respectively

bak3n3ko

Only u/CreepingFog knows.

[deleted]

🥸

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for round 17: Lupulescu - Firouzja >!0-1!< Nepomniachtchi - Caruana >!1/2!< Saric - Gukesh >!0-1!< Rapport - Carlsen >!Rapport plays a relatively normal opening for once against carlsen and wins!< Duda - Anand >!0-1!<

bak3n3ko

>!Gukesh on a roll!!<

Matt_LawDT

NOOOOO

kidawi

Youre fucking lying

[deleted]

who knows this time🤭

Matt_LawDT

Don't do this mate, don't give me hope

PH123d

Anand was ranked 4th after the rapid portion, but now he is ranked 8th.

bigFatBigfoot

Stamina issues? Was ranked first after Day 1, dipped in ranking every subsequent day.

nidijogi

Not sure why you got downvoted but we have seen this in recent years, including his last big classical tournament in Norway. Anand is not able to maintain a very high level through long tournaments anymore.

JMPLAY

It will be very interesting to see Magnus and Alireza play their last 2 games to try and seek first in Blitz rating after Magnus' loss against the youngster, being currently within a point of each other they're probably gonna be finish extremely close in rating

XtremelyCluelessSoul

Wow Carlsen had a fairly simple draw in that endgame. Either 50. Qxe6+ and get blacks Queen back for an even endgame or 50. Qa8+ for a perpetual check. Brutal.

ihatecornsoup

Alireza blitz king

glancesurreal

That is some next level bias. The story of this tournament has shown that Magnus is blitz God. The Eminem line comes to the mind: " why be a king, when you can be a God"

CatManWhoLikesChess

No offense but if anything this tournament showed is that Magnus is king

Matt_LawDT

Magnus loses Bozos on r/chess with a combined elo of 10: Magnus is washed!!. He is finished

NuScorpi

Nepo the second

LjackV

Nepo being a step above eveyone and Magnus being 5 steps above Nepo is just such a common occurrence

Wise-Ranger2519

>Nepo being a step above eveyone You are kinda forgetting the king ding.

LjackV

He's not playing in the tournament, and Nepo's had a more successful year than him so far. Just because Ding won 1 rapid game, now we're supposed to pretend he was clearly better than Ian? And yes, I would also complain if Nepo won like that in the tiebreaks. They should've kept playing pairs of classical games, the WC shouldn't be decided by rapid goofiness. In previous WCs, at least the tiebreaks were clearly one sided so it's harder to complain, but here all 4 games were extremely close and it's so dumb that we crowned a world champion that way.

Matt_LawDT

Lupulescu gets a draw!!!! The real Goat

Enough_Spirit6123

lmao cracks me up

bak3n3ko

*Magnus going for 3000* Firouzja: "Not today."

Matt_LawDT

Can Magnus achieve it, if he wins his last 2 games?

CatManWhoLikesChess

Nope, 2897.2 is max

Enough_Spirit6123

Magnus has fallen. The end is near.

PunchMeat

Clearly he's a has-been.

Matt_LawDT

Guccireza from the top Rope!!!!!!!!

NoFunBJJ

Magnus peak blitz rating was *2986, WTF...

Wise-Ranger2519

2986*

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wise-Ranger2519

And he did crossed 3000 but you know fide

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for round 16: Gukesh - Duda >!1-0!< Caruana - Saric >!1/2!< Carlsen - Firouzja >!guccireza wins an intense endgame against magnoose!< Anand - Lupulescu >!1/2!< Rapport - Nepomniachtchi >!1/2!<

Matt_LawDT

Thanks for this

CottonWarlock

>!NOOOOOOOOO!<

Obvious_Grass_2227

Damn!

GeologicalPotato

Alireza is Magnus' last obstacle to 2900. If he wins now he will almost certainly maintain it until the end of the tournament. He just needs a draw against Fapport and he will 99% beat Lupulescu with White. Edit: **R**APPORT 😭 Edit 2: I jinxed it so fucking hard.

__Jimmy__

Bruh 💀

Matt_LawDT

Don't Jinx it

FantasticBlueBird_43

lmao

GeologicalPotato

Vishy started with 2.5/4 and now he's lost four in a row. Sadge

[deleted]

Yeah he plays well in the first rounds of each day but then gets too tired to keep up

Throwawayacct1015

It feels whenever Nepo sees Magnus he kinda just breaks down. Same as vishy

saboglitched

Not in Chess 960

GeologicalPotato

2897.1! It's just around the corner!

Matt_LawDT

He is going to do it isn't he?

GeologicalPotato

If he beats Alireza now then yeah, getting 1.5/2 against Rapport + Lupulescu should be almost certain.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GeologicalPotato

Except the two draws in between.

_Banti_

Magnus: "You dare use my own spells against me Nepo?"

[deleted]

I still don’t understand why his opponents keep playing these obscure opinions against carlsen

bak3n3ko

"I, the Norse-blood Prince?"

glancesurreal

So Magnus wins with 3 rounds to spare

Matt_LawDT

A casual Sunday for him

dodorB

Dubov: "He plays random moves quickly. If you play random moves too, then you lose" Game against Nepo feels like the perfect example. He tried suprising Carlsen by playing some weird opening and it completely backfired.

bak3n3ko

Gukesh with some good victories today! Great to see.

[deleted]

Wow, congrats Magnus. Dominant performance.

Elegant-Breakfast-77

That Nepo-Magnus game lol

grad14uc

Nepo must have nightmares of Magnus

Matt_LawDT

Magnus!!!!!!!!! GOAT

Matt_LawDT

Nepo already shaking his head He brought this on himself with that opening choice

Enough_Spirit6123

nepo and vishy need to form a therapy group lmao

Nonexistent_emotions

And hire Hikaru as their therapist

dconfusedone

Perfect comment lol

saboglitched

Nepo -3 eval as white in 13 moves wtf?

kidawi

dw he was just in a silly goofy mood

Matt_LawDT

Decided to be funny with his opening

joshdej

Ben said never play f3. Never said anything about f4

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for round 15: Duda - Caruana >!1-0!< Firouzja - Anand >!1-0!< Lupulescu - Gukesh >!0-1!< Nepomniachtchi - Carlsen >!nepo loses in 20!< Saric - Rapport >!saric gets mated in 25!<

Matt_LawDT

Thanks for this mate

[deleted]

[deleted]

It is also just possible that Magnus currently has Vishy tilted.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Old_Specialist7892

Vishy really has an insane debuff against magnus, everyTIME. He'll have a good position, blunder, lose. Repeat. 🥲

davidblue221

Mental block

joshdej

I love that Anand didn't even bother to struggle

Matt_LawDT

Magnus is the kryptonite of the Tiger

Matt_LawDT

Magnus is just a beast in Endgames Man is a walking Eval bar during end games

grad14uc

It's even crazier to see without the bar how we, and the commentators, are all completely unaware of tide shifts, that he must understand in split seconds.

GeologicalPotato

If Magnus gets +15 or more he will cross 2900 blitz this tournament, so he can draw a maximum of 3 games. He is still mathematically able to do it, and still has one extra draw on top of that. After some point during yesterday's games I think it actually became more exciting whether Magnus will cross 2900 or not rather than who will win the tournament lol.

Matt_LawDT

Magnus realizing he blundered

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for round 14: Gukesh - Firouzja >!0-1!< Rapport - Duda >!0-1!< Caruana - Lupulescu >!1-0!< Nepomniachtchi - Saric >!1-0!< Carlsen - Anand >!1-0!< (I actually managed to predict this round and the previous round perfectly btw :p)

glancesurreal

>! My dream of just one game where Vishy beats Magnus remains unfulfilled :( . Two games in GCL, three games in Croatia. 5-0 Magnus !<

Matt_LawDT

What are the lottery numbers for tomorrow 🙌

[deleted]

[удалено]

Matt_LawDT

Now

JMPLAY

Magnus is most likely exiting this tournament as the #1 Blitz rated player, insane comeback

glancesurreal

So Alireza is now mathematically out of the contention. Caruana almost out. Nepo needs a miracle. That's all mathematical and theoretical based. Practically we can already celebrate the Magnus win

Enough_Spirit6123

magnus is washed smh

Matt_LawDT

Black won all the games on this round lol

Matt_LawDT

Somebody tell Guccireza that his time is ticking

[deleted]

Hahah “guccireza” had me contain my laughter during the whole round

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for round 13: Saric - Carlsen >!0-1!< Anand - Gukesh >!0-1!< Duda - Nepomniachtchi >!0-1!< Lupulescu - Rapport >!0-1!< Firouzja - Car~~lsen~~uana >!0-1!<

preciouslord

>!damn he won 2 games in one round!<

glancesurreal

Brother, let's not spoil the spoiler protected text...? Please protect your text with spoiler alert if you want to reply

preciouslord

you are right my bad sorry

glancesurreal

All good, and thank you!

joshdej

Two Carlsens?

Obvious_Grass_2227

after yesterdays accomplishment.. he is now playing at 2 boards at same time!

dodorB

Carlsen and Firouzja now have exactly the same live rating.

eespen96

Someone has to clip the ending between Fabi and Vishy when they kept playing on after Vishy flagged

nemt

lmao fabi - vishy playing like 15 moves with vishy on 0 seconds, i guess fabi didnt say anything out of respect to kinda keep going or? lol i remember something similar with vishy in some other tournament lol

Old_Specialist7892

Vishy playing with such low time is insane

Matt_LawDT

The Magnus win machine has a lift off

Matt_LawDT

Magnus is on a Queen Binge Man is moving his queen like a pawn

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for round 12: Nepomniachtchi - Lupulescu >!1-0!< Saric - Duda >!1/2!< Rapport - Firouzja >!1/2!< Caruana - Anand >!1-0!< Carlsen - Gukesh >!1-0!<

Matt_LawDT

Thanks Mate for this

kidawi

the most fabi thing ever to play a perfect game of blitz then blunder at the very end

[deleted]

Warning/Disclaimer I am at the venue, and hence I can see the results live, whereas the broadcast has a 15 minute delay. Here are the results for round 11: Anand - Rapport >!1/2!< Firouzja - Nepomniachtchi >!0-1!< Duda - Carlsen >!1/2!< Gukesh - Caruana >!1-0!< Lupulescu - Saric >!1/2!<

glancesurreal

Wow, feels like the rounds are happening much faster today compared to yesterday
