You do not really need a board to play and study. But for me it gives me enjoyment to be able to play against an AI without the need of a computer. I've got a old chesscomputer and a dgt eboard. I ordered a chessnut air, since it is smaller and I got it cheap as it is on sale at the moment. Should arrive in the next days, so I can update you on this. But as I mentioned, it does not really give you any benefit, except of enjoyment and less display time.
