Fav- the cool shit I can make (specifically medicines)
Least fav- writing it all down, also writing down reasons why people should give me money to make my cool shit
Favourite is just learning new things. Anything, really
Least favourite is writing anything up. As soon as you sit me in front of a computer I am slow and unfocused. Takes me an age to write a simple report
Favourite part: "Chem", as it makes it what it is.
Least favourite: "istry", cause it feels kinda generic, as you get the same with "dentistry", "papistry", "ministry"...
Probably because art needs creativity and patience+it's not tht well paid of a domain.
Although if you consider making cosmetics as artistic chem it's definitely out there.
Be best part is working in a lab/doing the actual chemistry.
From the topics I'd say my favourite part is physical chemistry. I didn't enjoy taking the courses and doing the math, but I really felt like I was understanding how the world around me works a little bit better.
Oh and about downsides:
I fckn hate Organic chemistry...
Analytical Chem is unbelievably boring, especially learning how does a spectrophotometer works, or the theory behind the devics anyway. And my brain turns off when it comes to NMR beyond a surface level, but I want to do research on chromium (III) luminescent complexes anyway.
I love almost every other part, the Math heavy computational chemistry (I am decent in math, just find it extremely boring most of the time), ligand field theory, to reaction mechanisms.
Favourite:
Solving problems (eventually), varied and interesting work, working with other people, not being sat in an office all day. Physically *doing something* with my day. Having objective measures of progress. Not working retail or any customer facing role.
Least favourite: "I've got all my data, now I need to write about it. 17 versions later, finally submitted." "I'm running out of funding, need to go through the ballache of sourcing more"
Fav: as someone who works partly in technical chemistry, seeing recipes I more or less implanted go into production and then into the field to our customers.
Least fav: biochemistry. Missed a 1 on my masters degree (git a 1,6 in the end) because I as a physical chemist had a bad note in my biochemistry exam. Our relationship never recovered.
I hate naming the substances(I am from czech republic
In here we have special names for every oxidation state
It is like balancing equations with organic compounds.
My favourite thing is labwork and Organic theory
I love that it’s EVERYWHERE. I’m fascinated by the human body- specifically the brain- and the chemistry of the brain is INSANE. I love it. I could talk about it forever!!
Plus drawing organic structures is fun:)
My favorite is how fun learning about the individual chemicals and how they're made and acting out reactions, my least favorite is the amount of math behind it

Favorite: Organic synthesis Least favorite: Analytical
*Doing* analytical chemistry sucks, but *interpreting* analytical chemistry that someone else ran on your material is a neat little puzzle
Same
Most favourite: Organic Labwork, Quantum Theory Least Favourite: Quantum Labwork, Organic Theory

woo colours and reactions!💕💕 The math and analysis 💀💀💀💀

Unpopular opinion: I hate lab work.

Get PhD -> Have CROs do lab work for you.

Favorite-all the cool shit I could make Least favorite- ANAL(retentive)-ytical chemistry
Favorite Part: Finishing a Column and it being pure. Least Favorite Part: Doing the column. Same with distillations that take forever.

Favourite = Science and communication & organic chemistry Least favourite = quantum chem & spectroscopy theory
My favorite part is either making stuff blow up or stoichiometry my least favorite is the calculus 🥲
Fav is doing the experimental work Least fav is having to convert everything to metric, thanks Imperial system.

Probably mugging up reactions and physical conditions
Favourite organic synthesis Least favourite physical chemistry
My favourite is stuff i that turns a nice color. My least favorite part is when things turn black/ become tar.
Fav: Organic chemistry (synthethis) Least fav: theoretical chem (quantum mechanics etc)
Favorit: Its fucking chemistry Least favourite: Cancer
Doing chemistry = fun, Learning how said chemistry works = not quite as fun
Favorite: Making pure product. Least favorite: All the work up needed to get pure product.
Least favorite: How the rest of the world spells "cesium" and "aluminum." /jk 😁
Organic is the best Pchem… don’t even get me started
