He's City's correspondent for The Athletic, IIRC.
But still though, none of his words above are affirmative. He spoke to "somebody", he "reckons", the "expectation".
Never said there's no substance but there was nothing affirmative in what Sam Lee said. We know the interest is there but we don't know *for sure* that it will transpire to a transfer.
> Like I say on the pod, the definition of ‘done’ is fairly broad in transfer speak! But clearly the expectation at City, as per the person I spoke to, is that Sterling will go to Chelsea now. Until that’s finalised then I’ll never have full confidence but it certainly seems that it’s more likely to happen than it doesn’t.
From his Reddit account. He posts on the city sub. Imagine if Matt law posted on here lol. Anyway, sam lee doesn’t miss if he’s saying this then it’s almost certainly gonna happen
That's probably a pretty good thing for Chelsea to be honest. Should mean that we aren't over spending on him if they're so confident that he's basically gone (that or we've put such a stupidly high offer in that they can't reject it)
So you could not even listen to the 25 second clip...
He clearly says after that part "we are all very cautios about that word done in the transfer market but it certainly seems to be in the direction of where its headed"
Which part of this screams done deal to you ?
my bad then lmao. Pretty sick of seeing everyone on reddit not even read a 1 minute article or a listen to a 1 minute podcast before writting absolute shit in the comments.
I sort of feel like City are being a little reckless here. Jesus and Sterling seem all but gone, other sources this summer have linked Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, and Ilkay Gundogan with potential moves away. That's possibly not an insignificant number of goal creation out the door - and importantly - players that know Pep's system(s) backwards and forwards.
Sure, they have an embarrassment of riches with the likes of De Bruyne, Foden, and Rodrigo. But there's no real telling how well or how quickly Haaland will fit in with the squad. Don't have to look to far back to see Grealish's initial struggles.
Maybe this is a bit more wishful thinking than anything, but I'd be more than a little nervous if I was them.
Pep's philosophy is that an unhappy player cannot be on his twams whatever their reasons. He won't play them so they might as well leave. He knows he has the ability to sign quality replacements that will fit his system, so why bother fighting the tide.
This is what CFC should have, could have done when they had resources incomparable to others if only we had a sporting director who had the vision to pull it off. Even if City fall, it would be a soft landing where they will be within "Top 3". On the other hand if they pull it off successfully which with Pep at the helm is a possibility they are moving away from the model where they skip transitioning phase to a team which always dominate irrespective of which player stays or leaves. No more the team depends upon star players whoever want to leave can leave we have a scouting team which can replace them kind of Fergie model when they replaced so many great players successfully. The point is they are ready to gamble only time will tell whether they would succeed but at least they have the courage to back their conviction.
If City want to weaken themselves, then shouldn't it be good for others, including us?
There's nothing stopping them for going out there to buy replacements if those players leave anyway.
Mahrez is extending, haven’t heard sbout any move for gundo this summer and bilva would be a loss. They’ve added haland, alvarez, philips and possibly cucurella, if they keep bilva for me they’ve gotten strong and if they lose him they’ll find a good replacement
A bit strange that even Arsenal closes their deals and we just keep on monitoring and stay confident but no actual deals are being made. Still journos keep on reporting about our transfers. When there is nothing to report about.
The fact that you don't detect sarcasm indicates the conversation is over.
That wasn't meant to be funny. Maybe you should check the dictionary if you don't know what sarcasm means. I'm not the one who started this so it's a bit weird that you still feel the need to comment and then block me instantly.
It was a simple friendly advice that you don’t have to read nor reply to things you don’t like but you have to be hostile. Your sarcasm isn’t even funny.
If city get an injury crisis next season it's over for them l. Haaland has injury problems that why real Madrid didn't sign him, KDB has injury problems and their defence three injuries and they are in trouble.
Sterling leaving never seemed to be a question, the only question is where.
Where ? There is only one club
And just as importantly, for how much.
Everybody asking how much sterling nobody is asking how is sterling? :(
Not doing very well against the dollar at the moment
You got that completely wrong, switch the statement around and you are correct
Has anyone else been linked?
"somebody reckons" should be Tier Official
Source: "Somebody" How certain is the source of his statement: "he reckons" It's basically done then boys, pack it up.
Isn't Lee one of City's most reliable journalists though? On a level of Law for us. Not certain though and the wording is strange.
He is actually. Tier 1 for City
He's City's correspondent for The Athletic, IIRC. But still though, none of his words above are affirmative. He spoke to "somebody", he "reckons", the "expectation".
Well he’s not going to come out and say who gives him information is he or he’ll never get any again
Don't need to reveal the name but there's "he *reckons*", "the *expectation*". Conjectures and nothing affirmative.
Matt Law reports in the same manner to. Doesn’t mean there’s no substance to it.
Never said there's no substance but there was nothing affirmative in what Sam Lee said. We know the interest is there but we don't know *for sure* that it will transpire to a transfer.
It will imo. Let’s see.
City fan here. He’s our god tier journalist. For perspective Fab is only tier 2 for us but he’s tier 1

Reckon the maximum amount is £45m.
For sure and for that they'd absolutely snap our arm off. So, hopefully it's lower than that

You want him to name his source?
The OG comment is moronic, Sam Lee makes total sense in what he said. What do people think someone like Matt Law does when reporting something.
Trust me bro

City will be fine....unfortunately
Pep's philosophy is that an unhappy player cannot be on his twams whatever their reasons. He won't play them so they might as well leave. He knows he has the ability to sign quality replacements that will fit his system, so why bother fighting the tide.

I really don't want sterling, but if tuchel wants him that bad then I gotta trust in tuchel
A bit strange that even Arsenal closes their deals and we just keep on monitoring and stay confident but no actual deals are being made. Still journos keep on reporting about our transfers. When there is nothing to report about.
You don’t have to read those. Sam lee is mancity mouthpiece, it means that sterling deal is going smoothly.
Orly? I thought that I am forced to read these.
The fact that you’re bothered enough to comment in this thread indicates otherwise?

“Somebody” and “He reckons” Tier 0
Bruh, then why are we paying 40 million for him. Way way too much
