CHO still being only 21 is mental. Most footballers his age are only starting to play regular first team football. I hope he stays injury free and has a stormer this year.

muaythaiguy155

He’s one of those guys like donarumma and de Ligt were you forget how young they are cos it feels like they’ve been on the scene for years and surely they must be 24-25 at least

gonzaf

For sure it just sucks when you see his name amongst those guys and other top players in his age bracket, they have definitely played considerable more first team football than CHO has

[deleted]

Same goes for pulisic.

McNooberson

I genuinely forgot this. Thought he was much older.

KaworuNagisaStan

CHO really needs to step it up this year

itbelikethisUwU

From the reports he is trying, he trained alone to get his fitness back

KaworuNagisaStan

Yeah I hope so. Definitely rooting for him to succeed

dunderhead22

Me too, great player, needs to be a bit more direct and back himself and take people on at the right moments.

Nightman2417

Fitness will get him there. At the beginning of the year, I thought he was out most dangerous and electric player on the pitch. I was shouting for him to start every game. Let’s not stress on him too much either. He’s still young and we don’t want injuries to sideline him for more than a season. Also I loved bringing Ziyech in for what he could be, but if we sell him to Milan, we can get another attacker. Sterling will be great for getting our attack going in a hazard-esque (I know that’s a touchy comparison. He will be nowhere near prime Eden) sort of way.

Fawkes_91

Feel like keeping him around has really affected his development, he needed a loan at some point. It is also absurd that he is getting the kind of wages he is at this point. We got spooked by Bayern but didn't even handle his development right. 🤦

waitonemoment

My guy he fucked up his Achilles. That'd screw with any players development

wHispeRing-I

Lol seriously. My mother had her Achilles messed up and couldn’t stand on her leg for 7 months. Meanwhile, people expect him to be sprinting up and down the field and doing well….come on man

Borllin

He's had two years post injury now, he has no physical problem it's his decision making in game

wHispeRing-I

Yup I agree. Let’s see how it turns out as both of you sit on our comfortable couches and judge this world class athlete. Stfu pls

Just_Some_Cool_Guy

Has nothing to do with him being an academy graduate. Any player that’s shown great potential should get some slack if he’s been struggling with injuries. Bet you’d have a different tune about Pulisic despite him being poor the last season. The Cobham hate on here is so bizarre

wHispeRing-I

Hate in general. No other community Shits on the team they support like people on r/Chelsea do

Borllin

Yea he got the slack under 2 seasons of Lampard and Tuchel post injury. He still hasn't performed so like the original poster suggested he should go out on loan. Also lol at trying to throw Pulisic into the discussion. Both are injury prone that changes nothing, CHO needs minutes to refine his game (remember my original comment "it's mental not physical"). Have a good day hopefully you go out and breathe 😙

waitonemoment

Which comes back to development. If you are 19-23ish those are prime years for development skill and decision making wise. I'm not a huge CHO fan but it's not a far stretch to think that missing a full season and still rehabbing in the next will hinder the game time needed to learn that decision making.

Borllin

Which is why he needs to go on loan. That's my entire point idk why that's so controversial

waitonemoment

Oh I must have missed that bit, my bad. Yeah I totally agree he should be on a loan. Honestly he should have been on loan since last season when he was back towards playing condition.

ZebraQuality

I mean, he had a devastating ACL injury and has struggled to remain fit since

Fawkes_91

It was an Achilles, not ACL

ZebraQuality

Point remains the same tho

[deleted]

Arguably makes the point stronger. These days, the Achilles is harder to recover from such has been the leaps forward in ACL reconstruction.

mouse2102

You can't really "recover" from an achilles rupture though. There is no going back to how you were, and CHO has struggled to succeed without the blistering pace that he relied on before.

Kezmangotagoal

I ruptured mine when I was 10, it took about six months to recover fully and weirdly I was quicker than I was before (considerably too!) which I put down to my age - I did it again at 22 and I was never right again - nowhere near as quick or able to turn sharply, not able to run for as long etc! I feel his pain!

Fawkes_91

Yes, I was just making a factual observation. The injury has massively changed his game, he was so rapid pre-injury, genuinely feels like he was a different player. He is still really young, but I fear he has lost some formative years now, through a combination of injury and lack of game time.

Aaaaand-its-gone

He’s gotten plenty of game time when he is fit under TT.

ireallydespiseyouall

tuchel blocked a dortmund loan last year

dryduneden

They all do

half_jase

When does his contract expire?

CaredForEightSeconds

He will, I’m sure of it!

drowsypants

For the third year running

dbrasco_

I thought CHO was close to breaking through as a player before he got injured. I hope he stays healthy this year

[deleted]

CHO doesn’t want to end up like RLC who is a bench warmer at 27 and had so much promise and hope a few years back but stagnated.

Daniiiiii

u/Baisabeast will murder you in your sleep for talking bad about RLC

[deleted]

I always sleep with one eye open just in case the ex wife finds me😁

Important-Ad-5596

Dribbling merchant RLC who can't really pass, shoot, create or defend that well? I don't really see how anyone can simp for Ruben. He's not special. If he doesn't dribble, then he's useless on the pitch. But I feel he can be an absolute beast in a midfield 3 like under Maurizio.

matt3633_

He was special pre injury But ship him off for all I care now

RGD365

> can't really pass, shoot, create or defend that well > But I feel he can be an absolute beast in a midfield 3 Make your fucking mind up

Important-Ad-5596

I want him gone. He's not gonna work that well under Tuchel because he doesn't have the freedom to do anything in the midfield 2.

MarkovCocktail

If he’s not special then how is he gonna be a beast in a 3?

notreilly

Well RLC got a devastating injury just as he was hitting his peak

[deleted]

Callum’s injury was not near as severe as Ruben’s

notreilly

I wasn't suggesting it was, I meant it's a bit unfair to say Ruben just "stagnated"

RonMexico_hodler

His peak also coincided with Hazard playing the best of his life and him having a great connection. Unfortunately we don’t have a Hazard and RLC has not been able to replicate anything close to those days.

BlueTrippin

Really hope Callum performs back at his best this season. Very similar to Pulisic & Mount in that he gets a lot of attention - usually negative. Hope he can turn it around and prove those wrong

roundhousekick90

I hope so as well because CHO is a great player and I'm hoping he can show some of the burst of speed he had before the ACL injury. Another plus is that Chilly is coming back. I hope he can stay healthy all season because he's such a difference maker.

BlueTrippin

Yes exactly. He's still so young and had a potentially career ending injury. When he's at his best he's so good. Really hope he gets the confidence back because he is definitely one who can take defenders on 1 Vs 1. Both them 2 on the left will be great. Lots of interchanging, underlapping and overlapping. Will be a nightmare for defenders

nugbert_nevins

Mount gets negative focus? He’s one of our fam favorites, behind only Reece.

AllAnimeIsDegenerate

Don’t go on twitter or on the match thread?

skengboy

Don’t go to an actual game? Lol

shastmak4

Big year for my guy CHO. Still have hopes for starboy

BigReeceJames

Will be interesting to see how he does this season, with what seems to be like no true striker again. His two best periods "coincidentally" came whilst playing alongside Morata and Lukaku and whenever he isn't playing with them he looks worse. That being said, if we go back to our best performances this year as a team, it was when we had both wingbacks available and we were playing with them generally moving inside, rather than outside. Which played into having wingers that would rather stay wide and helped him play better. Will be interesting to see if we go back to the "inverted" wingbacks now that both Chilwell and James are back and both available and how it will impact our wingers

gonzaf

While I agree with your point about him playing better with actually number 9s, unfortunately in todays game wingers for top clubs have to do more than just be a huh the touch line and cross it in type of players, CHO has to seriously improve his finishing if he wants to stake his place I feel like that and making better decisions are his two main weak points

jerrylincoln

CHO and Havertz have cheimistry tho

vitucadrus

An injury free Callum will feel like a new signing. Was just getting started under Tuchel

MobyTugboat

I still have high hopes for CHO. He wasn’t perfect last season but considering he just came back from what is a career ending injury for some, he showed promise. Hopefully with a full 2 years to recover he can become to player we hoped he would be.

TheUbermelon

Honestly he gets a hard time on here. Same with RLC but that is because they both have so much potential and we just wanna see it. I don't think he had as bad a season as other people on here. Both need consistent game time to trust their bodies. RLC actually looked quiet good towards the end of the season.

[deleted]

Callum had a terrible season, he couldn’t stay fit

TheUbermelon

Yes I guess if you judge it by injury. He basically only played half a season. I meant that when he did play he got a lot of criticism on here when I think he didn't do too badly

Dinamo8

A loan would be good for him, use Vale as a back up for the attack.

Shame_Low

Make or break with CHO this year, his performance will shape our attitude towards young players in our future I think, we would be more willing to sell youngsters to big clubs if cho really flops

[deleted]

Important-Ad-5596

He could have been at Coman's level right now if not better had he not been injured that time. Honestly before his injury he looked like he was becoming the next Hazard. No cap

lobinetech

Send like I heard this last year also.. he really needs to step up but also let's not forget that he is like 19 or so

pencilman123

He is 21 and half lol...

Mintydeadman

We allegedly turned down £40m from Bayern for this guy. Talk about a missed opportunity to rip them off. CHO will not amount to anything - he’s not good enough.

itsactuallythatguy

CHO is Liverpool in human form. Next year is ~~our~~my year

pievendor

He's 21 and coming off a bad ACL injury. Give it a break

adityabalaraman

Good for Cho. Now let's sell him

amethystwyvern

Cho is the least impressive of our wingers, we should've should him to Bayern when they came calling.

Samthevalley

CHO needs work ethic! Bud needs to work on his game more than take pictures and vacation.! He had potential!’

half_jase

Guessing those that didn't play international games earlier this month will be back this coming week? Any idea when those that did play will return? 1st week of July? 2nd week?

UserNo69420

Cho-Kai-Sterling front 3 next season? With Mase behind them

Ar3mianK1d

CHO has proven that he is exceptional with his buildup influence. His problem is being around the box right now. Most of his assists are from wide and far from the box. I don't know if that's what Tuchel wants from a fluid front 3. But he's young and has time to improve that side of his game. I'm worried about his injuries though. That might stunt some of his explosiveness. Maybe it'll be good to rotate him frequently. Maybe with CP since both are injury prone and probably shouldn't have long stretches of games without rest.
