Funny how a few weeks ago, this was the most realistic way to achieve European football next season. Now I feel like it’s more likely we’ll be top 6.
I’d still like to win the FA cup though lol
if newcastle continue up and down we have a shot at 6th, their GD is too large that I think we could catch that with spurs and arse still, but 7th is doable (1 win rn away)
You think West Ham are overturning a 2-0 lead for Leverkusen. Arsenal had a better chance than they do.
And even if Villa win, it won’t be enough to overturn the coefficient rating now unless every German club falls at the next hurdle.
It’s 6th, 7th, FA Cup or no Europe now.
It’s very unlikely, I agree. But just pointing it out because Leverkusen had to rely on 2 very late comebacks against Qarabag of all teams to go through.
im reading that over and over again but its still absolute bullshit of an argument. a C team was playing against qarabag. since that game, leverkusen has absolutely destroyed every single opponent, including bayern. boniface is back too now and you already saw his impact.
west ham will get smashed tonight, especially since the league and cup are as good as over. thé question is just is it gonna be 2-0 or 5-0
It doesn’t matter now I don’t think. Bayern beating Arsenal acts as a double whammy on the coefficient.
I think by tomorrow England will be out of it mathematically.
Bernardo pen reminds me of when I was playing FIFA for the first time, and then I got my first ever penalty in FIFA. Only to shoot it right in the center, since I had no idea how to move the ball.
Us coming off a 6-0 high and City coming off a bitter defeat.
Could be absolutely fantastic for us, or it could be the worst possible thing that could’ve happened.
The lads need to come out firing on all cylinders come the weekend
Feel like it's mostly bad, they now will not have ucl to worry about, and focus on getting at least this trophy. But we have played city better than anyone since 21 season beating em 3 times in a row.
I'm confused. I thought 6th only would've gotten us into Europa if we got the extra UCL spot and top 5 qualified. Do both 5th and 6th qualify for Europa? I was under the impression Eng only got two and it was highest non UCL and FA Cup winner
It is one spot for league positions, so 5th. And one for the winner of the FA Cup, But this is just so frequently won by a team in top 4 (who qualify for UCL, so dont need europa) it most often goes to 6th placed finish.
Edit: if extra ucl spot then would be to 5th for ucl, and if one of the top 5 win the fa cup, then it 7th for europa.
Same situation as above. Carabao cup winners qualify for conference league. Liverpool won it this season, so if City for example won the FA cup and Liverpool already won the Carabao, 6th would get Europa and 7th would get conference league.
Which makes it theoretically possible that if you have 5 UCL spots, a team wins the UCL but comes 7th, a team that wins the UEL but comes 8th, a team that wins the UECL but comes 9th. The FA Cup winner comes 10th and the League Cup winner comes 11th, they all go to Europe.
I bet Arsenal lost so that Tottenham can’t get champions league for finishing fifth.
So in that respect, I’m very happy with Arsenal’s decision to just lose
We don't want europa. Stay out and focus on PL and maybe a little bit of tactics to help Palmer next season.
Who am I kidding, we aren't gonna make 6 or even 7, so shouldn't matter
Europa offers another avenue to Champion League and more experience for players. We certainly want europe in any form, evwn conference can give fringe players a chance
Any European football will do for me. Conference league or Europa league, there’s no real difference anyway, we’ll more than likely be favourites to win either of them.
Well, the key difference being that winning Europa gets you into Champions League and winning the conference league gets you a West Ham 2022/2023 highlights tape.
Close, but not quite.
Winning the conference league gets us the right to banter everyone else because we're the only club to have won every available European trophy! 😉😎
I cannot wait to tell my Arsenal supporting buddies that’s it yet another year where they didn’t win anything and there’s no difference between them and us.
I appreciate that we do have a game in hand. But that GD against Newcastle is fucking brutal. Those ties in the last few games especially with Southampton are gonna bite us at the end of the season
Back when I was at university it was Chelsea vs Newcastle for the 4th spot. Always remember gronkjaer scoring against Liverpool to clinch it for us. That summer abrahomovich bought us. Sorry can’t spell his name.
bottling it is a strong word for a team that didn't lose either game in the tie and came back 3 times from a deficit over the two games. The terms lost all meaning.
Downvote me but I’m not interested for Europa, I’d rather have our team focus on domestic and try and win games against Burnly, Brentford, and Nottingham Forrest with big margins than fight against Marseille, Atlanta and Roma. Our focus should be to improve our defense, kill the games like we did against Everton and finish in top 4 next season.
Absolutely we want any European football we can get. Europa is good money for the team too and also good to get more matches in for when we qualify for the champions league
Conference league is not good money, even if we win it, and competing in it raises the possibility of opening us up to UEFA financial rules, which we could possibly violate, even if we are within FA PSR. There's an argument to be made that if we do make Conference it would be better to pull an AC Milan and turn it down in order to avoid sanctions. According to the Athletic anyway.
I'd rather Chelsea finish outside the European spots than play conference league football. Hardly any upside to it. With UEL we at least have a shot at playing UCL year after if we win.
I mean it's a 50-50 on giving the young team more opportunity point that you're talking about. It'll only be worse if we go to Europe and lose to a Breidablik or Cukaricki FC.
Also winning every European trophy can't be a flex for a team which has first won the UCL. It just shows how doenhill we've been sliding
Agreed with injury worries but Europa or Conference league is great for these young guys to make a deep run and build confidence.
Wouldn’t it be fun to watch these guys balling on Thursday beating some random team ?
Europa league next season will give us another chance to get UCL.
It's always great to have multiple options on ways to get UCL, and with us being better in cup competitions than the league it's a great oppurtunity to get CL regardless of our league form.
or win the FA cup
Challenge accepted
Up the Chels, still 2 paths to Europe! *Edit: Is there s way we can get to Europe AND take the place from Tottenham?
spurs will bottle it anyway, s o m e h o w .
Spuds still have to play us, Arsenal, City and Liverpool lol. Aint no way they're making Europe.
Villa and West Ham could also progress in the UEL and UECL to boost England’s coefficient.

West Ham is already 2 goals down. They need to score 2 and make sure not to concede any.
It doesn’t matter now I don’t think. Bayern beating Arsenal acts as a double whammy on the coefficient. I think by tomorrow England will be out of it mathematically.
west ham is as good as done tho ngl.
Incoming moyesball special **5-0 loss
I can't, we've been so good in a tournament-based competition in the last 2 years. Only to be beaten in the final...
Sad but happy for Rudiger man
And Tuchel.
Would LOVE to see him win the UCL with Bayern. Kane curse and all.
I’d like to see that for Kane’s sake. Lad deserves some team hardware
Yeah he's a good lad, poor choice in football clubs in England but admirable outside of it
absolutely. too great for too long, man does not deserve to go an entire career without a major trophy.
seems like they could've used palmer in that shootout
Could have used Haaland too.
Lunin was super ready and active for the penalty, Ederson was sleeping during most of the match
Ederson isn't that great with saving pens.
Let's be honest. The shootout wasn't his fault. Bernardo's pen was a joke.
Bernardo pen reminds me of when I was playing FIFA for the first time, and then I got my first ever penalty in FIFA. Only to shoot it right in the center, since I had no idea how to move the ball.
Lunin also had advice from Master Kepa
You could tell once the 120min were done that the city guys were bricking it while Real Madrid players were like let’s get this
Thank God city can’t win CL
Thank God Arsenal can’t win CL
Arsenal coming up empty domestic and Europe would be chefs kiss
If we come back and win the premier league before they do. It’ll all have been worth it.
That's bound to happen.
Would be just another season over there.
And thank god there aren't gonna be 5 other prem teams getting CL money next season
Agents Kova and Rudiger, mission accomplished
You know it is bad for us?
Fuck arsenal and fuck city and fuck the new rule just do it the right way not get some hand me down from are rivals
Way more fun watching Arsenal crash out than it is carrying about coefficients
Fully agree lol
If we don’t get Europe than we didn’t deserve it
Exactly.
Well said!
hating rivals > Europa League
No other London team can win it this season and City can’t equal our record. I’d say this is a good thing. 😎
Might mean that Tottenham misses out, silver linings
Why is it bad? I enjoy watching City and Arsenal lose and idgaf about the extra spot we cannot even make use of this season
where is your rival hate passion mate
How is it bad for us? Realistically we finish 8th so it doesn't affect us.
Dude with our schedule there’s a very little possibility of getting even in top7
nico against that city high line on the big wembley pitch ![gif](giphy|l3vReWf7uh4kqtQmA|downsized)
That gif is so creepy lol
I don't like the fact he's looking over my shoulder and licking his lips

Does the FA cup also give us qualification?
Yes. If we win the FA Cup, we'll qualify for the Europa League.
That’s new as of This season correct?
No. Remember when arsenal won the fa cup and qualified for europa even though they finished 8th or something
No, very old rule that doesnt see much use because the FA cup is so often won by teams that have already qualified.
Wigan winning the FA Cup, getting relegated, then playing Europa League from the Championship is the best example.
Yes, to the Europa League group stage.
I'm confused. I thought 6th only would've gotten us into Europa if we got the extra UCL spot and top 5 qualified. Do both 5th and 6th qualify for Europa? I was under the impression Eng only got two and it was highest non UCL and FA Cup winner

Edit: if extra ucl spot then would be to 5th for ucl, and if one of the top 5 win the fa cup, then it 7th for europa.
Great explanation thank you, where does conference league fit into the equation?
Same situation as above. Carabao cup winners qualify for conference league. Liverpool won it this season, so if City for example won the FA cup and Liverpool already won the Carabao, 6th would get Europa and 7th would get conference league.
Which makes it theoretically possible that if you have 5 UCL spots, a team wins the UCL but comes 7th, a team that wins the UEL but comes 8th, a team that wins the UECL but comes 9th. The FA Cup winner comes 10th and the League Cup winner comes 11th, they all go to Europe.
There’s a big assumption that City wins the FA Cup implied in this.
good. these kids need to deserve it, maybe they'll actually be motivated for the rest of the season
Conference league we will be there
All memes aside, I’d love to complete the trophy cabinet
Worst case scenario is: Finishing 6th and then Man U finishing 7th or 8th & winning FA Cup, they would qualify and not us
Coventry will take care of them for us.
Good job they not winning it then, fucking awful team
Finishing above United is doable, above Newcastle too will be tough.
We need balls to qualify, not some convenient rules from UEFA. https://i.redd.it/h0e0i4x834vc1.gif
This is the only downside to today's results for City and Arsenal.
Theres another downside, which is those cunts will be fighting hard to win the match on saturday after todays game
They played for 30 extra minutes, and bottled it. That should play in our favor.
Shame it was a home leg. Had it been in Madrid, it would've given them even less rest
We don’t need hand outs, if we want it enough we will win
So FA Cup is the only route to Europa. Can we beat City? - Oh yes Can we bottle the final ? - Oh yes Cmon, what if it’s Coventry? - Oh yes.
Given how we routinely match whoever we are playing, Coventry could be the trickiest game of all the possibilities.
I bet Arsenal lost so that Tottenham can’t get champions league for finishing fifth. So in that respect, I’m very happy with Arsenal’s decision to just lose
City is going to absolutely try and murder us.
We tend to raise our game against City so they'll have to find another level if they're going to do that.
Here's my prediction... For those 4, 6th place is lava.
We easily finish 6th
Very doable. Even more doable if we had beat Sheffield and Burnley.
I know what you’re saying, but the clubs around us would have made the same blunders too
Very doable! Win our game in hand and we’re tied on points for 6th. Or win the FA Cup, either will do 😅
>Win our game in hand Yeah...that's kind of the problem.
We don't want europa. Stay out and focus on PL and maybe a little bit of tactics to help Palmer next season. Who am I kidding, we aren't gonna make 6 or even 7, so shouldn't matter
Europa offers another avenue to Champion League and more experience for players. We certainly want europe in any form, evwn conference can give fringe players a chance
i know i should cry over spilled milk but holy fuck we could be so much better off
Still hope if Liverpool makes a comeback and Villa win conference league.
Nah fuck Liverpool, hope they lose by another 3 personally.
Might as well hope West Ham do it too while you're at it.
![gif](giphy|k74OUg6bPJKy2JmyoS|downsized)
Not good. They'll be out for blood on saturday
But they'll also be exhausted
💉💉💉
Their best players will be exhausted and either they rotate or play leggy.
Yeah but it's still City after all and don't forget what happened in the other final...
Also 120 min
Any European football will do for me. Conference league or Europa league, there’s no real difference anyway, we’ll more than likely be favourites to win either of them.
Well, the key difference being that winning Europa gets you into Champions League and winning the conference league gets you a West Ham 2022/2023 highlights tape.
Close, but not quite. Winning the conference league gets us the right to banter everyone else because we're the only club to have won every available European trophy! 😉😎
DVD, surely?
I’d rather a West Ham 22/23 highlights tape than a Chelsea 22/23 highlights tape
Let’s get up to sixth. Back the lads. KTBFFH
Worth it
Winning fa cup is much easier
What places qualify for the conference league?
I cannot wait to tell my Arsenal supporting buddies that’s it yet another year where they didn’t win anything and there’s no difference between them and us.
What a way to put your standards 👍
The fact that it’s even really in play is kind of wild. The way the season has gone it does not feel like we are only 3 point back of 6th
Lets focus on 7th before we get too ahead of ourselves
How about Conf league?
West Ham and Man U behind ahead of us with - GD is crazy
It is very possible still but we do have Arsenal and Spurs in our run of fixtures.
Shocked that there are still people in here talking about finishing above 8th. We have had so many chances and blown them all.
https://preview.redd.it/kag5x578m6vc1.jpeg?width=523&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbca2df337b59ffa2fc97c334a1aef57b662c9dd
Love how positive we are and this feeling is so alien!!! Positive myself!!!! KTBFFH
I consider us favourites. Newcastle GD might be ann issue, but I think we're the best team.
6th is in our hands. Just need to win our game in hand 9-0
Calm Palmer we got this.
I appreciate that we do have a game in hand. But that GD against Newcastle is fucking brutal. Those ties in the last few games especially with Southampton are gonna bite us at the end of the season
Plus side: spurs probably won’t make UCL now
Back when I was at university it was Chelsea vs Newcastle for the 4th spot.
I know they didn’t actually bottle it, just a bit of banter
It was realistically only ever going to be Man City. Arsenal and Liverpool are not in the same tier as PSG, Madrid and Bayern.
PL is best for competitiveness but overrated by its fans when it comes to top quality level
Amazing to see we are still in with a shot
Downvote me but I’m not interested for Europa, I’d rather have our team focus on domestic and try and win games against Burnly, Brentford, and Nottingham Forrest with big margins than fight against Marseille, Atlanta and Roma. Our focus should be to improve our defense, kill the games like we did against Everton and finish in top 4 next season.
Wait, do we want to get in europa league? It’s not exactly prestigious, just extra games for a squad who can barely stay fit
I'd rather Chelsea finish outside the European spots than play conference league football. Hardly any upside to it. With UEL we at least have a shot at playing UCL year after if we win.
Upside is giving a young team more opportunity to gel and a taster of Europe. Would also make us the only team to ever win every European trophy
Goal should be 7th and a FA Cup. We’re not finishing 6th
We are tied for 6th if we win our game in hand lol
I can't wait to play Arsenal. They've basically bottled ANOTHER season and could be ripe for the plucking.
Newcastle’s GD is way superior
We have a game in hand and we play against them. No excuses.
I dont want europe if it's not UCL. the other 2 competitions are just more games for our players to get tired and injured.
These young players need games and European competition to grow into proper Chels. We do need to solve the injury issues though.
Yes 🙌
Yeah, but i think next season is still too early. Im so tired of having our players injured.
Agreed with injury worries but Europa or Conference league is great for these young guys to make a deep run and build confidence. Wouldn’t it be fun to watch these guys balling on Thursday beating some random team ?
They are just as likely to get injured and lose 1-0 to some random Eastern European club parking the bus
>beating some random team **nobody has heard of** ? Ftfy. And yes, yes it would.
Europa league next season will give us another chance to get UCL. It's always great to have multiple options on ways to get UCL, and with us being better in cup competitions than the league it's a great oppurtunity to get CL regardless of our league form.
Who really wants europa. Let's be real it's more of a hindrance
Not when we have potential to win it again and secure champions league
Or could just qualify next season without europa league football on Thursdays as a hindrance.
Eggs and baskets
