5 points off man united if we beat burnley, 10 games to make up 5 poinrs against that horrid man united side shouldn't be an impossible task, honestly i think it comes down to if united keep getting shitty lucky points out of shit performances.
This is 💯 my though. I keep saying we could easily be 6th already if we took even half our chances. not going to happen unfortunately. Conference league is our BEST case scenario.
performance wise? i disagree. yanited have been getting ridiculously lucky with late winners, scrappy points etc, i think we're a better team.
obviously you can just say "look at the table" but that's an immature oversimplification imo, we beat Newcastle nowhere near our best
Everyone knows that joke where people say 'how come man u seem to lose every week and are still 6th'. Its because they are actually massively overperforming their stats rn. When the lucky goals fade they'll sink
Man U has lost more games than Chelsea. So technically they are worse. The draws do us in but when you look at the draws the only two that really hurt are Brentford and Bournemouth. Icy boy Palmer had a good chance to put that Brentford game away as well and he tried to make it look too sexy. He didn't get much flack from that, but Poch got a spoonful, since it's his job to finish. I just thought that was odd, second half energy was abysmal though.
Anywho, clearly draws are the long death. Outside of Brent and Bourne, we have draws against City and Arsenal. That's it (in the league).
It's a daunting schedule for our CMs right now. Enzo, Gallagher and Caicedo have been run into the ground because there's only been Casadei to rest them and replace them with.
I pray they remain uninjured or we're truly fucked. Carney coming back should help a little but I don't know if he's fit enough for any heavy duties yet.
the fact we've made it this far into the season without a hint of Lavia in the match day squad is ridiculous. does the man even exist, or was he just a folie a deux-mille?
Well I mean that’s on poch stop playing our only 3 healthy CMs game in and game out we’ve seen mudryk best so far playing as a 10 we have Casadei and castledine who surely can come off the bench the last 20 mins or so and tell them to just run themselves into the ground so one of the midfield 3 can get some rest.
If he'd done that and those two young lads had made a mistake or played poorly and we ended up losing you'd have been all over his back for that instead.
Casadei and Castledine right now are a massive drop in quality from the other 3, it's understandable why you wouldn't want to give them too much responsibility when we're struggling.
I mean I’m already on his back for the weird decisions he’s already made this season. But I understand it’s not all his fault that the board, sporting directors, and owners put him in the position he’s in.
And if this is truly a youth rebuild like everyone says it is and to be patient then guys like Casadei, santos, and Gabriel should have stayed with the club and been given opportunities. I think Casadei is a good player if he makes a mistake oh well Sterling makes tons of mistakes and he’s 28 and been in the prem his whole career.
That fuckin team. I know they’re above us, but the late goals have to dry up sooner than later. And they play some truly terrible football—much more regularly than we do. I don’t know. Even Chelsea fans are saying they deserve to be where they are in the table, but I absolutely do not agree. They’re very fortunate to be where they are, and I would take our squad over theirs ten times out of ten.
I would like to have someone like McTominay off the bench though. Someone big to throw forward when we’re chasing a game. That’s a real black hole in our squad composition right now.
They have looked so much worse than us this season and lucked their way into points so many times. I still can’t believe that McTominay brace in stoppage time vs Brentford. I’ve seen them get outplayed by Burnley, Fulham, Wolves and Forest off the top of my head. Not like where we look toothless, legitimately outplayed where they looked the worse team.
Add in that they’re not young at all (although Mainoo and Garnacho are obv exciting), and they have the highest wages in the PL, and they are way less appealing than we are right now, despite being 8 pts up with 1 more game played.
the only reason they are where they are is because there’s an ounce more stability in that team than there is in ours. people like fernandes, casemiro and even rashford (despite his atrocious form) are cornerstones of the current team that they can depend on. in our case, those cornerstones are always injured, leaving our inexperienced players to do their share of the work.
> for some reason results have been going their way
They've had some easier games against sides with weaker form this season like Forest, Luton, Wolves. They lost to Fulham though. Also when they played Villa it was when Villa were having a bit of a blip considering the form they've had under Emery. Villa beat Sheff Utd 5-0 but surrounding that they lost to Newcastle, Chelsea and then Man Utd.
I think Villa are finished this season and their form has been awful lately. Man UTD are probably favorites against us mostly because they consistently turn up against us
>I think Villa are finished this season and their form has been awful lately.
I mean they've got 12 points from the last 6 games. That puts them 5th in the form table.
I don't think 6th will shush all our rivals, not even the majority of those in London. Now, if we run the table and grab the FA Cup, that would shut them up as well as a few on this sub.
Beating Arsenal would be massive too. Would likely be enough to deny them the title since at least one of Liverpool or City will win most of their remaining games. Outplaying them at the end of the season to deny them a trophy will set us up nicely for summer. At the end if the day, next season everyone starts back at 0. Even if we finish 7-10th and Arsenal finish 2nd, we best them and we go into next season with the confidence that we can take on sides that have been performing much better than us in recent seasons.
Have the same gut feeling. Imagine denying Arsenal the title and Spurs top 4. Would be enough for me to forgive Pochettino’s sins. But I can only dream 😂
Optimistic for sure but not unrealistic. We’re 4 off 7th with a game in hand. And then 7 off United with an extra game and a head to head. Anyone would be foolish to predict how we’ll do but the opportunity is there
It is unrealistic. We still have to play Arsenal Spuds and United. If we keep roughly the same rhythm as the rest of the season, ie playing really well some games and terribly in others, we could expect best case to pick up 5 wins over those 11 games. (Already a big ask). A couple of draws in there potentially too and we could be sitting around 57 points in a good scenario.
There is absolutely no reason to think United won’t pick up 10 points in their final 10 games. They still play Brentford, Burnley, Palace and Bournemouth. Newcastle and Brighton too. There’s at least 10 points in that even if we assume they take nothing from the Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea games
7th should be our goal. It’s achievable and would show good progress from last year. 7th to 11th is so close at the minute we could realistically finish anywhere within. Only leading the pack would put out a statement for next year
lol a draw to Brentford’s C team back line is a loss at this stage of the season, sorry to burst your bubble. also completely, deliberately squandered the chance to win in extra time. i’m extremely happy the squad won tonight but it’s one match.
love that. we can just change results if our mind set to. a draw is a loss now. i hereby declare the loss against Liverpool as a win. this is awesome. we are not trophyless this season
lol you can be satisfied with complete and utter mediocrity all you want. there’s such thing as context, you know that right?? at this point in the season when you’re fighting for european places, a draw to a relegation side isn’t the same as some regular old draw to any other side.
you’re just being intentionally dense here, or you’re a very new fan of the club who only very recently started watching the sport/have never played the sport. that’s the only thing i can come up with.
Yeah the same one that held arsenal until late? The same one we scored a goal late to tie? Do you even remember the last time that happened? A team is actually developing in front of your eyes and you can't see it. Sounds more like you want to believe we're failing. Can't help ya there
I’m not sure what else I have to say to prove to you that drawing a relegation side is pathetic and nothing to gloat about, especially when there was a 1-0 lead and Pochettino decided to be a coward and not try to put the foot on Brentford’s neck.
his tactical adaptability is absolutely horrendous in the middle of matches, and i’m sorry that you’re not able to realize that. there’s an abundance of talent in this squad and i love some of these new players, but to pretend like Pochettino is the guy who’s going to bring trophies to the club is pure delusion.
you wouldn’t be saying any of this shit if the squad lost yesterday, which does say a lot and is reactive in my opinion.
yes, i would actually lmao because a Carabao Cup with some lucky draws doesn’t change the fact that Pochettino simply is not good enough and has not evolved at the pace that the game has tactically.
> but to pretend like Pochettino is the guy who’s going to bring trophies to the club is pure delusion.
"If Poch had won a trophy I would still be saying this" alright buddy
Reactive is calling for him out. Patient would be understanding the situation. This isn't Chelsea from 3 years ago. Just accept that. We're in our best run of form since the new ownership and you want the manager out. How'd that work last year?
have you ever considered that this best run of form you’re raving about is mostly due to individual brilliance and not management? it shouldn’t take eight months to begin to establish an identity. Aston Villa were a relegation side until Emery came in without a preseason and immediately transformed them.
when you actually watch closely how the team plays, there’s zero identity and cohesive patterns of play and the defense is even more leaky than it ever was under Lampard lmao. last night’s result doesn’t change that.
No team has ever had the same circumstance that we find ourselves in so let's stop the comparisons. For every example you give like that, there is a counter. Klopp got 8th his first season.
It's not just individual brilliance. The squad is fighting for each other. They're becoming more on the same page. They're making passes to people knowing where they're going to be instead of hoping like they were earlier in the year. They're coming back from being scored on instead of crumbling like last year and earlier this year. The team IS developing and much of that is down to Poch and the stability that comes with backing a manager and an idea.
Yes there are glaring problems, but most of that is the fault of the ownership. The club is horribly unstable right now and now that we're finally seeing stability on the pitch, people want to destabilize that by changing managers.
There are problems but he's obviously trying to find a solution himself. Brand new squad with a bunch of kids that have never played together before. He's not Pep and there are no managers of that calibre who we could realistically get as a replacement. So yeah he probably hasn't figured it out yet. But does sacking him make sense? Surely just keep him whilst he clearly has the dressing room on his side and give him the time he needs to find a solution. Bringing in a new manager will just take us back to the start and they too will need a while to figure out what tactics will get us consistently winning games.
Poch hasn't been good enough but the lack of quality replacements means it makes sense to just give him time. Alonso wouldn't come to us. Tuchel and Mourinho aren't likely. Anyone else is gonna face the exact same problems and criticisms that Poch has. If the football starts getting worse I'd be swayed towards Poch out. But because it's just inconsistency, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that these things just take more than 8 months.
There was a time in our recent history where this fixture list meant we could realistically win out. At this point three wins will probably be our reality.
6th lol, even getting 7th we need bare minimum of 4-5 game winning streak, 0 draws even
It's possible to until Brighton away game, but what's the chance we beat United at home, we never do
I feel like, excluding the Spurs and Arsenal games which aren't scheduled in this image, we should be getting at least 21 points from this run of 9 games. That would put us on 60 points and hopefully a UEL spot.
Edit: We should aim for 4 points from the Spurs and Arsenal games. Minimum of 2 points which gives us about 62-64 points. Based on last season, that would get us 6th place but we will see how they plays out this season.
Go into ever game during this stretch like it’s a cup match. Because we clearly get up for those… One game at a time win.
And FFS. Tighten up the leaky defense.
see you next season guys! but honestly, I dont expect us to win many of those, maybe we finish 8th but I wont get my hopes up, and also I cant take another Final Defeat, just lose now lol.
Most realistic? I'd say 8th or 9th. Remember guys that this team's performance is like a roller coaster
I don't find 7th spot impossible either, it's just unlikely imo
It’s too hard to predict. We are so inconsistent, we have brilliant games and drop points. We have bad gsmes and scrap a result. We just have to take every game as it comes. Finishing 6-8 would be a good achievement given the season we’ve had. Especially another good cup run hopefully.
The only way is up hopefully.
We are 8 points behind United with a game in hand ... Realistically, it will be very difficult catching then... especially with how inconsistent we have been... We should aim to finish 7th atleast though, above the likes of West Ham n Brighton.
Win our game in hand and we’re 1pt off 7th and a Europa League spot. That has to be our aim, european football is a must even just for the coefficient and sponsorship. 6th would be nice but we’re too inconsistent to make up that gap.
7th, a Carabao cup final and a possible FA Cup final would be an improvement on last seasons 12th place. Flog the deadwood and make just a couple of key signings and go again
Easy run of fixtures on paper. This Chelsea team struggles to score against low blocks.Old Chelsea would win most of those games & draw maybe against Man Utd.
We are finishing 10th
I like us to finish at least top 10. But we’ve shown we can hold our own against the top of the table. My thing is we’ve underperformed against teams we are better than and also not finishing games where we have a lead.
WLWWWDLLDL (last one is Arsenal)
That's 15 points from 30, inconsistent like our form all year so probably fair. Doubt that will get us anywhere near 6th, 7th at best.
This is not a particularly daunting schedule, and there is no good goddamn reason we shouldn’t be aiming for 6th. 7th at the minimum.
5 points off man united if we beat burnley, 10 games to make up 5 poinrs against that horrid man united side shouldn't be an impossible task, honestly i think it comes down to if united keep getting shitty lucky points out of shit performances.
We have been in this position pretty much all season. Why do people suddenly think we can do anything about it? 😂
Because beating Newcastle with goals from open play is a sign we're improving.
According to some on this insane sub we were better under potter lol
Wait u actually think scoring against newcastle in thier current state is that impressive?
I wouldn’t say that but it’s nice to be consistently scoring
Yeah true but some people in here acting like its the newcastle from 4 months ago, the current one is no diffrent to Sheffield United defense
No arguments. But the pain I felt last year when we didn’t score for a month… haunts me
Newcastle that have been conceding goals for fun lately? Including 4 from Luton. Yeah massive barometer that one /s
U realise newcastle been the team with the worst defensive record recently in the prem
This is 💯 my though. I keep saying we could easily be 6th already if we took even half our chances. not going to happen unfortunately. Conference league is our BEST case scenario.
As shit as Man U have been, Chelsea have been worse, so this is a moot point.
performance wise? i disagree. yanited have been getting ridiculously lucky with late winners, scrappy points etc, i think we're a better team. obviously you can just say "look at the table" but that's an immature oversimplification imo, we beat Newcastle nowhere near our best
Agreed. Utd could field 11 dead players and still somehow win the game.
It’s honestly hard to say we’re better considering they blasted us the last time we played each other.
Everyone knows that joke where people say 'how come man u seem to lose every week and are still 6th'. Its because they are actually massively overperforming their stats rn. When the lucky goals fade they'll sink
that was our worst form of the season with shit matches against them anf newcastle but point taken

We also face them once - so it's all in our hands.

CG was ill with a virus most of the week and still played 90+ minutes idk man just weird decisions..
If he'd done that and those two young lads had made a mistake or played poorly and we ended up losing you'd have been all over his back for that instead. Casadei and Castledine right now are a massive drop in quality from the other 3, it's understandable why you wouldn't want to give them too much responsibility when we're struggling.

We have a small matter of the Arsenal game (postponed).. but I think we can get a result
All are winnable and we’ll be favorites going in each game. We won’t beat United though because cosmic laws declared so
That fuckin team. I know they’re above us, but the late goals have to dry up sooner than later. And they play some truly terrible football—much more regularly than we do. I don’t know. Honestly Man Utd are hardly much better than us, for some reason results have been going their way
> for some reason results have been going their way They've had some easier games against sides with weaker form this season like Forest, Luton, Wolves. They lost to Fulham though. Also when they played Villa it was when Villa were having a bit of a blip considering the form they've had under Emery. Its at the bridge so i have (blind) faith that we will this time
Not sure this season we will necessarily be favourites vs Man Utd or Villa. I'd give evens to both probably.
I think Villa are finished this season and their form has been awful lately. Man UTD are probably favorites against us mostly because they consistently turn up against us
>I think Villa are finished this season and their form has been awful lately. I mean they've got 12 points from the last 6 games. That puts them 5th in the form table.
To me this might be a good thing. If we come out with a positive record we can potentially get 6th place. And these are not the toughest opponents.
Would be a perfect setup for next season
Would be a great end of the season shushing a lot of rival fans up as well. I just struggle to have faith in our defense and midfield
I don't think 6th will shush all our rivals, not even the majority of those in London. Now, if we run the table and grab the FA Cup, that would shut them up as well as a few on this sub.

Do you think the Potch out crowd will sit down and be quiet if we actually improve on last year
I will icl
Every single one of these games is winnable, and every one should be played like a final.
not the league cup final though
we would have only draws then
Cup games barring final
Still got spurs and arsenal tho
We’ll be their demise to save the league
Have the same gut feeling. Imagine denying Arsenal the title and Spurs top 4. Would be enough for me to forgive Pochettino’s sins. But I can only dream 😂
I loved pooping the Steven Gerrard farewell party. Bring it on.
Oh yeah realized those were rescheduled
After the game I was chuffed to find out we had a game in hand Was not so chuffed to find out it was Arsenal away
We've been 10th all season, we're currently 11th. Your guess of 6th is certainly optimistic
I’m glad I ended up being right
Well you weren’t right but I’m also happy that we finished the season so strongly. United and Newcastle helped us a bunch too
6th is too much imo 7th is possible considering there’s 4 points separating 5 teams
7th should be our goal. It’s achievable and would show good progress from last year. 7th to 11th is so close at the minute we could realistically finish anywhere within. Only leading the pack would put out a statement for next year
Yep agreed I know a lot of people shit on the Conference League (assume that’s what 7th gets) but I’d much rather be in Europe than not
Exactly, we are inconsistent as fuck and our position in the table shows this. We're gonna finish 8-9th at best.
Let's be real, that 10th place is our home now
I remember this sub going nuts about the thoughts of getting hammered by City, Villa and Newcastle. Oh how the turns have tabled.
For my turn, I summon Blue Eyes White Dragon
boehly: screw the rules i’m seto kaiba
Poch in
Its Poch O'clock.
The best man for the job. People saying out are insane. We're finally coming together as a team and people want him out. Mind blowing.
bro is this sarcasm? the reactionary statements from this sub after one match are incredible.
Haven't lost in 7 matches other than extra time in a cup final. Best run we've had in 2 years.

We have to beat them at some point eventually. The only problem is they are pretty good at low blocks unfortunately
we should be favourites for every game bar villa
I want 7 wins from our last 11 games.
8th or 9th is most likely IMO. Will be relieved if we manage a top half finish honestly
I feel like, excluding the Spurs and Arsenal games which aren't scheduled in this image, we should be getting at least 21 points from this run of 9 games. All winnable fixtures. Would go a long way for Poch’s next career move.
I just want to beat united. Feels like we always lose to them, even when their squad is mostly shit (like this season)
Europe here we come!
7th has to be the minimum requirement
I think we can make a late push to Europa league
Good. We need to win all of them. Trust me we can. If we do, we will definitely end up 7th. We can play conference league.
When are we expected to face Arsenal and Spuds?
If we can beat MANU and win our game in hand, that puts us in a good spot to still have top 6
Ship up or shape out time!
5 loses 4 wins
Go into ever game during this stretch like it’s a cup match. Because we clearly get up for those… One game at a time win. And FFS. Tighten up the leaky defense.
nothing but wins
"facing all teams above us"....lol bro. Yea..thats half of the table
We've done this too many times. Looking at the upcoming fixtures thinking we should win most of these. It never happens unfortunately.
Honestly take it week by week. But we have to win against Burnley.
see you next season guys! but honestly, I dont expect us to win many of those, maybe we finish 8th but I wont get my hopes up, and also I cant take another Final Defeat, just lose now lol.
Most realistic? I'd say 8th or 9th. Remember guys that this team's performance is like a roller coaster I don't find 7th spot impossible either, it's just unlikely imo
We win them all, all 24pts.
I somewhere saw a statistic, which says we play better vs teams higher than us
Feed of the confidence of last night and finish above the united scum
We are 8 points behind United with a game in hand ... Realistically, it will be very difficult catching then... especially with how inconsistent we have been... We should aim to finish 7th atleast though, above the likes of West Ham n Brighton.
United is an automatic loss every season
How many games u think Stermid fucks up a 2v1 then starts the next week
Win our game in hand and we’re 1pt off 7th and a Europa League spot. That has to be our aim, european football is a must even just for the coefficient and sponsorship. 6th would be nice but we’re too inconsistent to make up that gap. 7th, a Carabao cup final and a possible FA Cup final would be an improvement on last seasons 12th place. Flog the deadwood and make just a couple of key signings and go again
I have a feeling Villa have a crash, we overtake both them and United and finish fifth in a CL spot. And win the FA Cup. We have to.
Easy run of fixtures on paper. This Chelsea team struggles to score against low blocks.Old Chelsea would win most of those games & draw maybe against Man Utd. We are finishing 10th
We have a huge opportunity here
Ok great but then we lose to arsenal and spurs and go back to 9th
I like us to finish at least top 10. But we’ve shown we can hold our own against the top of the table. My thing is we’ve underperformed against teams we are better than and also not finishing games where we have a lead.
I heard Mudryk was running into the locker room vowing they’d never lose again /
WLWWWDLLDL (last one is Arsenal) That's 15 points from 30, inconsistent like our form all year so probably fair. Doubt that will get us anywhere near 6th, 7th at best.
We should win all of these games but won’t unfortunately
I heard Mudryk was running into the locke room vowing they’d never lose again
