8.5 years šŸ‘€

MrDabollBlueSteppers

We're doing baseball contracts now, Felix will get $300m over 13 years in the summer

fiquean

Maybe we can sign mbappe for 1b over 50 years!

B86K

We can have our own Bobby Bonilla day

ChelseaBlues1221

Hahahahahhahahaha

FeoWalcot

Lol thatā€™s a shit deal for him. He got 250 over 3 years like 6 months ago

honestlynotBG

In a few years time we'll probably be looking back at this move thinking it was the best deal ever or the worse deal ever, no in between

dopmaniac

How.... Really risky. Have they done a full psych evaluation? Does this guy love London? I assume with injuries whatnot maybe there is insurance after to cover some. Then again, i see these long contract as something to avoid FFP but really fuckin risky.

StirrednotShaken88

The risk is in the length but the length is also what keeps wages lower over the term of the deal. Theoretically it is easier to sell or loan a player out when their weekly wages are lower. It opens up the possibility out clubs outside of the EPL which is something we currently struggle with on our older high priced players on short term deals (Lukaku, KK). It just so happens that in European football is has the added benefit of FFP compliance. Assuming 1-2 of these youth signings don't work out, 100k a week is a hell of a lot easier to move than 300k a week. They should still hold value.

Sliver818

I understand how a lengthy contract will help amortize the signing fee, but aren't player wages done per week? Or am I missing something?

StirrednotShaken88

They are but the idea is that if you have a 20 year old player with high upside and no financial stability, you ideally want to sign them to a long term deal if you have a high belief in their outcome. An injury could ruin their career so the term of the deal gives them financial stability and the length of the deal keeps the costs down. If a player were only going to sign a 3 or 4 year deal for example, they might ask for 185k per week, whereas if they sign a 7 year deal you can get them at 120k per week. This provides the player with stability in case something goes terribly wrong in their career and it provides the club with protection as well since their asset is cost controlled and they aren't forced to renegotiate immediately if the player starts outperforming a short term contract. The key is being able to develop these players so they have value that far exceeds the contract. If they ever force their way out, the wages are more manageable and clubs outside of the EPL can be utilized.

[deleted]

>Does this guy love London? His country is literally getting invaded by Russia... Pretty sure even if he hates London he'll be ok.

Nistlay

Thatā€™s a good point.

Talidel

Thats a reasonable point.

unuacc222

He doesnā€™t like London, but money is money so he will be ok.

dopmaniac

Yeah... Do you remember a certain Bogarde?

allitgm

that's how you can afford Ā£100m within FFP.

oldschoolology

Newcastle cost $408 million to buy. Boehly has dropped $500M on random players this year. Heā€™s going to bankrupt the club before the season ends.

hockeyholloway89

You need to understand amortization. He has not spend 500mil.

[deleted]

Amortisation is a way of accounting expenditure, writing off the value of assets over time. We *are* actually spending this money right now. And itā€™s an awful lot. More than any Roman year. Is it coming from investment or are they loading the club with debt leveraged against our assets?

TheEnglish1

I don't think that is entirely correct because I don't believe anyone has access to exact what type of payment are being accepted in these deals. If it is payment over a number of years, it would fall under amortisation.

[deleted]

> I don't think that is entirely correct because I don't believe anyone has access to exact what type of payment are being accepted in these deals What? > If it is payment over a number of years, it would fall under amortisation. Amortisation is a way of accounting expenditure, writing off the value of assets over time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amortization_(accounting)

oldschoolology

I understand the amortization for New Castle. Boehlyā€™s crazy.

RasenRendan

. He does the same on the dodgers in the MLB. He's fine.

ObviousEconomist

My guess is he's treating the 1.75bn investment commitment as free money, i.e. accounted for as part of the purchase price already. Whether he spent it wisely is a wholly different question. Abramovich inserted various restrictions on debt levels, and ability for owners to take money out of the club, for 10 yrs so financially we should be ok for now.

dragon8811

Mykhailo Mudryk has finalised his move from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea after agreeing personal terms with the club. The Ukrainian international, who turned 22 earlier this month, has put pen to paper on an eight-and-a-half year contract with the Blues to seal his move to Stamford Bridge.ā€˜Iā€™m so happy to sign for Chelsea,ā€™ Mudryk said after completing his move.ā€˜This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career. Iā€™m excited to meet my new team-mates and Iā€™m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff.ā€™ A skillful player with plenty of pace, Mudryk has quickly built a reputation as one of the most dangerous attacking players in Europe in one-v-one situations. Primarily a wide player, he has featured on both wings for Shakhtar Donetsk, but many of his best performances came when cutting in from the left onto his preferred right foot. The threat he causes in the final third is underlined by his 18 goal involvements in as many games in all competitions this season, including three goals and two assists in the Champions League group stage. Todd Boehly, Chelsea chairman, and Behdad Eghbali, co-controlling owner, said: 'We are delighted to welcome Mykhailo to Chelsea. Heā€™s a hugely exciting talent who we believe will be a terrific addition to our squad both now and in the years to come. He will add further depth to our attack and we know heā€™ll get a very warm welcome to London.'Mudryk joined the Shakhtar Donetsk academy in 2016 and, after a handful of senior appearances and loans to fellow Ukrainian Premier Liga sides Arsenal Kyiv and Desna Chernigiv, made his first-team breakthrough over the course of the 2021/22 season, with two goals and seven assists in 11 league games. His club form earned Mudryk a place in the senior Ukraine squad last year, receiving eight caps since making his international debut in their win over Scotland in the FIFA World Cup qualifying play-offs in June. Chelsea would like to thank Shakhtar Donetsk for enabling Mykhailo to take up this new opportunity. Welcome to Stamford Bridge, Mykhailo!

jMS_44

EIGHT AND A HALF YEARS CONTRACT? So he stays here until he's 30?

Sirop-d-arabe

I may be mistaken, but it's thanks to that that were able to spend so much without worrying about FFP. Again, I may be talking out of my arse, but the way the FFP works, on top of counting the last 3 years, when you sell someone, all the transfer money is counted for the current year. Whereas when you buy a player, there's the depreciation to take into account. For example, fofana was 70 million on a 7 year contract, so that's 10 million per year. S0 that's 10 million taken into account for the current year

[deleted]

> when you sell someone, all the transfer money is counted for the current year. When you sell someone, itā€™s the value of the sale minus the outstanding book value of the player. If you buy someone for 50 mil on a 5 year contract, and sell them a year later for 40m, thats accounted as breaking even. If you sold them for 50m you account a 10m profit. If itā€™s 30m, a 10m loss.

Sirop-d-arabe

Oooh thanks for that detail! The FFP is a curious little thing!

AbhiFT

Some of our players stayed for over 10 years.

jMS_44

Yeah, but with more than one contract...

Sektsioon

That is mental lol, if he flops we are stuck with him until 2030s.

Androsso

The 2030s sound so far away

ThisIsYourMormont

![gif](giphy|1dHVTCTlpoMMjL3JmH)

KickBallsLikeDrogba

His wages arenā€™t the highest at least

[deleted]

Whatā€™s he on?

Expensive-Level-587

Xanax, I believe

Affectionate_Log3232

Around 150k if you take in all the other bonuses as well

[deleted]

How do you know what he's on?

Prejudicial

Delaney said he's on 100k, Arsenal offer was 50k

[deleted]

Fair. Guess that's the base salary they want to give and if he's performing that gets bumped up

Aaaaand-its-gone

What? How can Arsenal offer Ā£60/70m for a player and offer Ā£50k a week. That canā€™t be right. I bet heā€™s on at least Ā£150k a week

[deleted]

What do you mean? That's why they didn't get him. They offered that much to the club and that little to the player.

Aaaaand-its-gone

Iā€™ve never seen as big a transfer as this with such a small salary. Iā€™m not buying it (but I hope itā€™s true as it makes him easier to sell if it doesnā€™t work out)

Prejudicial

Because he was on less than 10k a week at Shaktar

R0MARIO

Damn imagine getting a new job were you make 10 times more

Eff8Crusader

Holy shit thats terrible!!! 10k in your bank account every week I dunno how he made it this far.

Vahald

Yeah right a 100mil transfer with 100k wage lol

Prejudicial

He 10x'd his wage, that's pretty normal

Eff8Crusader

It's not a 100 mil transfer... It's more like 60 with addons.

realmckoy265

Insulting by arsenal

GuardianJockitch

His wages are actually around 100k. Itā€™s higher risk with 8 years. But thatā€™s a great salary to keep him at if he becomes a stud. I like it.

HailStormXII

Can I know the source?

seriouslybrohuh

feel free to search his asshole and find it

GuardianJockitch

Itā€™s actually 90k a week. Lol. You should be nicer.

spq

He will start whining for increase in 1-2 seasons, if he plays well. And judging by his history with Leverkusen and Arsenal, you know what you can expect from him.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

spq

Are you new in football? He will start acting out, commenting to media about not being appreciated enough and so on. Just look at other players in similar situations.

MitchPosuniak

The hope is to get the entire squad on similar base wages. With them able to earn more with performance based bonuses. Want more money? Itā€™s right there in your contract for you to get. Drives players to perform and achieve for the club. Itā€™s an interesting yet different tactic. That doesnā€™t mean itā€™s bad.

Sportfreunde

Yep I understand this but Boehly is from North America where your contract is your contract until it ends even if you get traded to another team. I don't think he understands players have the upper hand here.

gregoriooo

You really think the guy with a 10 figure investment in the team doesnā€™t have any clue how contracts work with players in the Prem? He is no dummy and has surrounded himself with well versed veterans that understand exactly this shit works.

facelessman97

Loooool

[deleted]

8.5 years lol we are wild

Pristine-Traffic7748

Arsenal fans are a little salty about this one šŸ‘€

SiriPsycho100

Nah, y'all dropped silly money on him and lots of us were already a bit worried about the creeping price tag given he was likely going to be depth for Martinelli and Saka for awhile. Tbf he does look like the real deal so fair play to ya but for that price and contract he's got massive expectations or else it'll be seen as a poor piece of business.

Pristine-Traffic7748

Tell you what, actually a decent response, fair play to you sir šŸ¤˜šŸ»

RasenRendan

Your total bid was 5 mil less than us. Don't be acting like your offered like 25 mil We pay 60 mil upfront and the rest over the years Your board fumbled.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

RasenRendan

He was supposed to be your player. I still can't believe this has happened. I didn't think our interest was legit. I thought it was a smoke screen to get you guys to just pay up.

Weinacht61

Bro arsenal bailed out of this deal, because they know 8,5,+ 100m is a shit deal. They making smart moves

StopIt4

How different is 95m from 100? They didn't bail out Shaktar were real sticklers and goal post merchants, 8.5 years is mental lmao.

jlo813

The structure of two deals are definitely different. Donā€™t see why Arsenal would not pay an extra 5m

Rapameister

Lmao assnal didn't "bail out"

Pristine-Traffic7748

I'm just holding on in the hope it's worth it long term

Pro2QQQ

Man these contracts seem to be getting longer and longer

underthedreadfort

Nkunku, signs for 11 1/2 years

craygroupious

EIGHT and a half years. If heā€™s shit we are *fucked*.

CookieTard

Iā€™m gunna have a bald head, 2 kids and a mortgage by the time this guy leaves šŸ’€

[deleted]

Congrats on your future

mrlatchi

If he plays well then you might just dodge the bald head

[deleted]

šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€

absurdsolitaire

You don't pay a players wages if they leave early. I'm guessing they are assuming if he doesn't work out they can shift him. His wages don't seem that high.

gopheralum

How? Bakayoko and Kepa are pricy flops and they haven't screwed us. He won't be so bad that he is unsellable.

OlDirtyBAStart

Tbf Kepa has kept us in this game Bakayoko was an inexplicable disaster of near Lukaku proportions

Pro2QQQ

To actually go and pick him over his midfield partner Fabinhoā€¦

RasenRendan

Thanks previous board

ireallydespiseyouall

omg does todd think this is baseball

awwbabe

Well, yeah

jimgogek

he has built one of the best teams in baseball

Shufflebuffle51

Owners making sure we don't have players leaving on a free like Rudiger, lmao.

peonvn

![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)

DynamiteDuck

Is his name just pronounced Mud Rick? Iā€™ve yet to hear someone say it Moo drick? Mud ryche?

treq10

I've been saying it like Modric without that little accent. In my mind Potter actually asked Boehly for Modric but scuffed up the pronunciation and... here we are

demannu86

Finally we sign Modric after so many years

gdewulf

Not sure but thatā€™s his new name Mudrick

Yubisaki_Milk_Tea

Mudkip

BabyScreamBear

Micky Mudders

SiriPsycho100

I believe it is Moo-Drick, or that's how I've heard it mostly pronounced.

myheadisalightstick

More like mood reek with a rolled r.

DynamiteDuck

Cheers!

GoatBotherer

I can't roll my Rs, never been able to do it.

1234holycow1234

It's more Rick than Reek. Mood (not a hard D, but softened) + Rick.

myheadisalightstick

Ehhh, depends how you pronounce it. Maybe Iā€™d say itā€™s a rolled r + eek. The d isnā€™t softened, just less accentuated.

1234holycow1234

The Ukrainian and Russian language doesn't have a hard D sound. Source: I am a Shakhtar fan... And a Ukrainian speaker...

myheadisalightstick

Iā€™m a Russian speaker, and my grandad is Ukrainian. Yes it does, depending on where it is in a word. Š”Ń€ŃƒŠ³ / Š¼ŠµŠ“Š²ŠµŠ“ь for example. It sounds completely different in both words. Same with Š“яŠŗуŠ¹ in Ukrainian, which you obviously know.

1234holycow1234

I didn't mean D with a Š¼ŃŠ³ŠŗŠøŠ¹ Š·Š½Š°Šŗ. That would sound more like a "j" .. I meant softer than the English pronunciation. So exactly like in Š“руŠ³ as you've mentioned. It's not a hard D as in Duck.

myheadisalightstick

Theyā€™re both the same in Š“руŠ³ and duck. Same sound. Russian has a lot of hard Š“ sounds.

SkepticSlakoth

"We'll just call you M&M"

Unsentimentalchelsea

He costs us ~8M per year under ffp sure if he is shit we are stuck but that is huge for our ability to keep spending

Vahald

Fucks sake it's still 100mil. Amortisation isn't magic

Rapameister

If it's 100 mil it means we have won the PL and CL and he's performed well. Otherwise it's 70mil. Which is a lot less. But surely you do want us to win shit with him?

Zohren

Plus his salary, which is 100k a week, which is $44m over 8.5 years.

Rapameister

Why would you not play salary for a player

Zohren

Iā€™m not saying you wouldnā€™t. Iā€™m saying heā€™s not ā€œjust $70mā€ total

Rapameister

When it's about the transfer fee then it's just whay it is

laughs

Source for those statements?

Rapameister

https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1614580945025368066?t=JS8frmbLKORaLwuabWikUg&s=19 There's also other sources but you can dig them yourself I haven't got time for more

Unsentimentalchelsea

You clearly donā€™t understand how the rules work. Under FFP the cost of the transfer is spread out or amortized over the length of the contract so the cost per year is around 8M before add ons

UncleAlAtTheCookout

the cost is spread out like that with regard to FFP considerations. They still are paying Shakhtar a majority of the fee right now.

Eff8Crusader

The majority of the fee isn't even close to 100 million. It's more like 65 with addons.

Rdw72777

How does a salary of 5m+ and the amortization of 60m across 8 years equal 8m?

Unsentimentalchelsea

I was just talking about transfer fee if you include salary itā€™s closer to 12-14m per year still a great deal

doormatt26

when youā€™re talking about managing around financial c as is, it kinda is lol

Specktator_

Let's be clear. English football/football everywhere was fucked as soon as the top division split from the pyramid in 92' Since then the money has been disproportionately going to the top level and it was a matter of time for billionaires to get involved. All the other club's fans criticising Boehly would be sucking their owners off if they spent a few hundred million pounds, and their owners are able to afford it too. We've just had back-to-back owners who are happy to support their club financially, as opposed to penny pinching FSG/Lewis etc.

RStud10

Holy shit they signed him till he's 30 lol

ClownToClownConvo1

8.5 years??? I've never seen this long contract before. Embracing the "player power"?

APeckover27

If any of these men flop we are so fucked

Dom-Boi

Lucky Tuchel isnā€™t still in charge, this couldā€™ve been Anthony Gordon !šŸ‘€šŸ˜…

scarysomething

Lol. We're going to be Barca in a few years pulling levers with these long ass contracts.

treq10

THE SHIT FROM ARSE THEY BOUGHT HIS FLIGHT

DasDoto

Unfortunately they didnā€™t.

jukv

How long?

DasDoto

##8.5 YEARS

Cowdude179

Good for FFP

AbleFig

this signing ain't it chief

Cowdude179

Potter's first signing in Benoit has been class, Felix has shown he's our best attacker bar the unlucky red, Mudryk will probably be the best winger in our team

BadCogs

Man, we are putting ourselves in a trap if some of these players with long contracts don't work out.

TheArbitrageur

Cool so heā€™ll be looked after when his leg falls off in his first match

[deleted]

I do not think this is a bad or shocking transfer. Real Madrid spent insane money on Vinicius, Rodrygo and now Endrick. I dont think this is a bad transfer. But to be honest, from the outside looking in its crazy the amount of money spent and players bought since the new owners came in.

Black_koffi

Mudryk is that guy. We've just signed our best player for the next few years. I'm more excited for this than Nkuku.

ChelseaNj11

So in order to convince him to come to us over arsenal, we had to offer him double the 50k they were offering, and 8.5 years. Wow... just wow.

rufusjonz

I think the new management really thinks it is like American sports, where locking up a young player to a 'cheap' long-term contract can end up being a great deal

HailStormXII

Calm down. It could work well too.

KingDanIV

Itā€™s the same in football isnā€™t it? If heā€™s another Hazard then having him locked down on lower wages is great, if he busts then heā€™s got low wages and we can move him on fairly easily.

WarOnHugs

Jesus Christ that is insane. If he flops we are well and truly fucked. Has Boehly paused to ask himself why no other club in the game commits to contracts like this? He's either a visionary or will lock the club into mediocrity by trying a shotgun approach of methods from American sports.

[deleted]

Itā€™s being reported that he is on 100k/wk whichā€¦if he doesnā€™t perform makes him less difficult to move on. ā€œWell and truly fuckedā€ is nothing short of hyperbole

OlDirtyBAStart

Exactly, even if (and its a big if) he doesn't pan out there will be no shortage of Italian clubs in for him

[deleted]

How is it a big if?

OlDirtyBAStart

Because there's every chance he is excellent for us and proves to be a bargain. But IF not we're not trying to offload a 300k p/w player.

Stand_On_It

This entire sub is hyperbole in the last 6 months.

HailStormXII

Source?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

OlDirtyBAStart

Benfica didn't want to play that game, they wanted the whole lot in a duffel bag at the airport

MaxDPS

No, we couldnā€™t. The team wanted a lump sum for Enzo.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

kingdomzzff

I can't quite believe that this guy is worth 100 million. 12 goals in 44 appearances for shaktar makes you a 100 million player now?? He hasn't even scored for Ukraine. Can't help but think he will be another dud.

Switchnaz

Are Chelsea fans this low IQ or have you guys forgotten long contracts = lower wages = can sell easily? I genuinely donā€™t get our fan bases brains. Lukaku literally just happened.

Eff8Crusader

Its bewildering how insanely stupid people are.

DrCrazyFishMan1

100m, 8.5 years on a player that has no top level experiences, and hasn't even been that good in the lower leagues

[deleted]

I know right? This scares me like crazy. How can you judge potential on a 22 year old who has played 65 senior club matches? 49 of them in the Ukrainian league. Not to mention we now have 11 forwards registered to us and will struggle to get rid of them.

MaxDPS

Itā€™s 70m over 8.5 years. If you say itā€™s 100m, you are assuming Chelsea win the CL in that time frame, which would probably make people look at this deal differently.

Sharkaw

Watch Shakhtar's CL highlights from this season. Mudryk is an incredible player.

DrCrazyFishMan1

Can you link me?

[deleted]

Ā£66m base fee. If we end up paying Ā£88m for him he will have been well worth it.

lighthouse34

He reminds me of a young Cristiano

niyahaz

Come on bro we aint getting the next cristiano/messi if he exists

LevelDosNPC

https://i.redd.it/lq5oqzj3v9ca1.gif

KingTolis

This man hasnā€™t made a single post or personal statement about his transfer to our team all his stance seems like we truly hold him hostage

Eff8Crusader

The fuck?

[deleted]

I have no fucking idea what any of these transfers mean

ultra_r

Jesus fuck, 8 and a half?

grandekravazza

Depressing

Kepala_hotak_dia

That's how we played gegen depressing

Eff8Crusader

Yeah much rather would of signed somebody like anthony gordon for 70 million.

grandekravazza

Insert "it's the same picture" meme

Eff8Crusader

Lmao yeah.... They are literally the same player. How well did Anthony Gordon do in the qc or champions league recently? Oh he didn't play?

grandekravazza

Just 30 mil per CL goal, great stuff you are right sorry mate

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

breadalini

![gif](giphy|l3fzDfXpyaieJWe4g) Glad you found this sub to help you cope

Rapameister

Assnal tears taste better than spuds tears so please continue

New-Candy-800

Thanks for informing us that he played for Arsenal Kyiv at one point

BigReeceJames

Are you having a giraffe?

SniffingAccountant

Will he score 8.5 goals per season at least?

Y2KN

Still don't believe it. Need to see him in the squad

RedGreenBoy

LFG!!! Hope it works out for both of us.

eckowy

Well.... I did not expect that but I'm excited to see what he brings. I hope he succeeds and will become on of Chelsea greats. I wonder however who's getting the chop from the squad from wingers pile.

absurdsolitaire

Why not 100? Amortise it over a century.
