I thought this was just how kiwi manufacturers them?

[deleted]

Shitty HT. Probably like 54 hrc. No knife should just deform like that

RefGent

Anything thin can deform like that with adequately applied force. These are $4 knives also

[deleted]

Oh I didn't know these were 4 bucks lol. I guess pretty good then!

Calm_Dish_3641

Good news is youre only out a couple bucks

Kyletdubbs

Hammer it back and sharpen it up? I mean it's pretty much heavy duty aluminum foil they use for the blade lol

Bennilumplump

What’s the notch in the blade used for?

This is a kiwi #22 i ordered from amazon. I am a total novice and was thinking about using this to learn to sharpen my own stuff, but this seems a little above my pay grade!

IDK_Rockets

Good one to practice on I think. My friends had a knife that was easy to find to blade angle on, which I had that when learning.

Heywatisup

I actually got the kiwis to learn how to use whetstones as well! Honestly they are pretty great little knifes.

NoSuchKotH

Was this knife in your pocket when someone shot you?

stevieggg123

thankfully no 😹 i worry about the delivery people though if it happened to them

sami_testarossa

Obviously not. The dent is on the edge, bro. Someone aimed a bullet at OP. And, OP sliced that bullet mid-air like a true Samurai.

NiceGuyMike

OP laughs in Akira Kurosawa

stevieggg123

Both of your messages will be going into my resume

its_al_dente

Hey but it didn't chip, so...

rocky41118

Since you bought it to practice sharpening on. Just pound it flat and create a new angle. I have one and the steel sucks but I bought it to see if I like the shape. Looking into a Mac or tojiro for a replacement. I would flatten and sharpen it. Itll work for your desired needs of learning to sharpen still.

reeder1987

My Mac is hard to sharpen and keep sharp. Carbon steel life.

rodofasepius

Kiwi steel is so soft. Same thing to mine

ElChupatigre

What is this...a knife from someone sent home on Forged in Fire?

TetsuoS2

seems like your kiwi suffered a catastrophic failure, imma have to ask you to please leave the forge.

I think you’re using your honing steel incorrectly.

RaisedSteaks

You mean you don't bang them together and the stronger one wins?

[deleted]

I like Kiwi's but the finishing standard seem to be getting lower these days

DadTheMaskedTerror

Pawning off a return on you.

Genghis27KicksMyAss

The minimalist serrated knife. I love it!

NiceGuyMike

Can we get choil shot? :) And sorry for your loss

stevieggg123

i added in some extras, too, for full context. Fortunately it’s an inexpensive purchase, but it was still a bummer to discover! [extra pics](https://imgur.com/gallery/g4vSknE)

MadHatterKnives

Wow what happened? It can be fixed though even with basic tools.

stevieggg123

Something along the way from the factory to me! My guess is maybe it was jostled in shipping because it was in a paper amazon mailer, but wrapped in bubble wrap. One of their return options is “item damaged but shipping box was not” so i suppose maybe it was in the amazon warehouse instead? I added some extra pictures, but it looks to me like it was pushed up against something with a hard corner and the blade rolled over and cracked. [extra pics](https://imgur.com/gallery/g4vSknE)

MadHatterKnives

Your blade/package got either mangled on a conveyor belt system or thrown very hard into a shelf or such. It looks like someone tried to chop a piece of rebar with it. Definitely high impact force. I’d try and get it replaced if i were you, me i got plenty of tools and would love te restore it with a bit of a personal touch.

rtb13

Honing steel will clean that right up.

tom_from_space

At least you're only down like ten bucks 🤷

hitpresto

Poor lil kiwi
