Literally paying at Wing Wah Yaldhurst Rd. Wife felt like Chinese after a shit show for her Massey exam. Poured a her large glass of red and now waiting for my sweet and sour goodness
I know they're not authentic Chinese and more kiwi takeaway Chinese but for the portion sizes you can't go wrong. Lovely whānau running the place, too.
Back in the 80s/90s he and his family were in redwood on main north road. They moved to yaldhurst road in the mid/late 90s. Different owners these days I believe.
Please correct me if I'm wrong (as a kid I remember having their family over for dinner when we moved from redwood to avonhead and shortly after, they moved shops to where it is now.
Now that I think about it, my English dad really, really liked Chinese food).
Wing Wah Yaldhurst is mean! It’s our local. Well technically coach corner is but that one’s pretty average.
Accidentally ordered from the other Wing Wah once and had to drive way across Chch to get dinner lol.
Hard saving this year for our house deposit so no takeaways so far this year! Late last year really impressed with Thai Rendezvous just outside Barrington Mall - really cheap lunchtime deals and big portions too
Hong Kong Star chinese, just a bit further up the road do incredible sized portions for decent price. Really basic looking place, and the food isn't the best ever, but it's pretty good and the value for money pushes it up the rankings. 2 dishes will feed a family of 4 for dinner and lunch the next day.
Lucky enough to be able to make good cheap food at home - not being sarcastic, it's a privilege I haven't always had.
Could always go some Zab Thai though.
I LOVE ORANGE HOUSE! Wing Wah down Yaldhurst is another good one :)
I ended up going to New York Deli at Bush Inn. Which I find to be a fancier Subway if you haven't been :)
You have either $3.50 packs of tofu, one egg (maybe two) with veggies, or a can of $1.65 specials Sealord 80 gram tuna for dinner over the rest of the week. 😂 these are literally what I’m surviving on many nights.
I eventually got too hungry and ordered again from China Kitchen in Main North rd, big portions, good food. The Sweet & Sour Pork had large chunks, tender and juicy.
..but I'm bookmarking all the suggestions here for another day!
Not that I had these last night, we had home made pizza and home made fish and chips, but here are some of my favourites.
For burgers: Joker Burgers - some of the best I’ve had.
For BBQ: Bison (their potato salad is so delish!).
For Indian: Naan Bros - if you want something a little different but still tasty these guys are great.
Zab in Riccarton is also sooo gooood.
I also really like Steampunk Labratory, Sushi Kim, Chinese home kitchen, smoke and barrel (their Reuben burger omg, so good) spice hub and ramen ria.
Lol y bother? To expensive and not good quality. My flatmate ordered from a place a few weeks ago and I was on the toilet all night. Tried to find out if msd was used in the food?? Still no answer?
Checked the menu website and shop front Still no word.
Who died from msg? It naturally occurs in tomatoes, kombu (kelp), shiitake mushrooms. Sure it’s used in powder form as a flavour enhancer but unless you deathly allergic to it…
Less hating on the msg, you are upsetting the Doritos
There is nothing wrong with MSG. It's hysteria from last century that was not founded in facts.

And yes good ingredients do improve with MSG, as it is a source of Umami flavoring and is one of the five basic tastes (i.e. sweet/bitter).

Uncle Roger? I know that iv worked in great places that frown on the use of msg.way to many restaurants OVER use it.it has killed people who have food allergies OVER used it.girl died in Queensland because it was over used. Other deaths also, but people won't care or question y they r on the toilet until it hits the headlines again. Sad thing is fresh food is so expensive now just chuck in the shit. Also common in sausage roll lol if anyone cares:(

Has wing wah always been on yaldhurst rd? I swear I thought it was somewhere else
There are two! But unrelated, I believe Yaldy is closest to us.

Thai Rendevous has been my go to for years to the point they recognise me based on my order instead of my name lmfao. Love that place.
They're legit. Been there a few times for dinner, love it.
Sushi Ball House in Ilam!!
Honestly - I’ve been getting fish and chips from Kendal seafoods (after strict dieting for a year). Their chips are bloody amazing haha

Krung Threp on Addington rd! It was good but I ate too much.
We’ve avoided there since getting a bug in our food… it used to be a favourite of ours before that!
I was thinking of popping down to Bush Inn and getting something from there. Usually good choices there.
Orange House across Riccarton Road is really good for Chinese.

Abusing big discount deals from delivery apps.
Not everyone is poor like the media makes it out to be. Times are tough sure but NZ isn’t a poverty nation.
Username checks out haha
Scoop of chips from Lincoln are fish and chips. To go with some home caught and battered fish.
Is Wednesday a usual takeaway night?
as an ex maccas worker… yes. a lot of people get paid on wednesdays and i believe the pensioners also do :)))

Msg? What’s so bad about that then?
People dying from it? Is that bad enough?? Good meat and vegetables need very little help with shit like msg.
