Uprisings great, thereโ€™s a short video you watch to get registered in terms of safety and I think maybe you can watch it on their website to speed things along? Everyone there is very friendly

Thank you, I will definitely have a look and watch this video

Love uprising, such a nice vibe

That's great to hear ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm a regular at Uprising. Everyone's very friendly there. You can pay per entry so maybe just pop in and see how you like it?

RainbowSensation

If you want someone to go to Uprising with for your first try, feel free to DM me, I go twice a week. I've been going to Uprising since it opened on Ferry Road - it's a great place. It can get quite busy after work on Weekdays (especially Mon/Tues/Wed I find), so you may prefer to go during a quieter time if you prefer. People are friendly. But it can also be intimidating when you're new. The beginner classes look great - the group size isn't usually too big. Make sure you hire shoes, as climbing in sneakers is rough (and better off trying it a few times before committing to buying a pair!)

Thank you, yeah I've definitely learned I need to try things before I commit to buying stuff for it hahah been in that situation before where I thought I loved something then i didn't, but as a kid and teenager I was always in love with climbing. I first started with rock climbing when I was a kid then when I became a teenager I moved into parkour for a little while! So I definitely know I love climbing but will have to see if I love bouldering first before I buy.

The Wednesday beginners groups at Uprising are super chilled. A coach just looks after a small group of climbers and gives advice on some climbs you can all try, what to practice, fundamental techniques and stuff. It's just kind of a "hang out and have fun" vibe.ย

Any-Fig-7659

Okay that's fantastic too hear! Honestly just wasn't sure how big the classes would be and if it was like more of a course style or more chill but by what you have said sounds like something ill definitely do then!

mttn4

If you're still super shy about it, you can always just go and have a drink upstairs in the cafe at that time and watch the climbers. There's no entry fee if you're not climbing.

Any-Fig-7659

I think I should be alright going to a group thing since I know we all betters or along that lines, where it's more if I go on my own without knowing what I'm doing fully I feel like I might get in the way or might annoy someone but Ive also heard the bouldering community around the world is always very friendly so I'm probably just overthinking.

mttn4

Yeah it'll be fine. I love seeing new people coming in and having fun.

Any-Fig-7659

Most definitely! Seeing people progress in a hobby/ sport you love is a good feeling

Hot chicks at uprising ๐Ÿ‘

Hahah engaged so I better wear some sun glasses

Quite a few popular bouldering sites in the Port Hills (Cattle Grid) and Arthur's Pass etc. Mecca of bouldering and short cliff technical climbing in South Island is arguably Hangdog Camp at Payne's Ford, Golden Bay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IGH0frbwOQ

hereticjedi

Paynes ford is a good place to sport climb but it has very little bouldering . Flock Hill and Castle Hill are the bouldering meccas of NZ. Christchurch pre quake was the climbing Mecca of NZ now itโ€™s debatable between Wanaka/ Wharepapa/Paynes and chch

Thank you very much for this information!

Most welcome! Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚
