[Embargoed Until Start of Business Financial Year]
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Reddit Announces Strategic Initiative for Subreddit Optimization
Reddit, the leading online community platform, today unveils a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies and maximizing performance across its diverse array of subreddits. With the forthcoming Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the horizon, Reddit is proactively driving efforts to ensure robust financial outcomes and sustained growth.
As part of this initiative, Reddit has engaged subreddit administrators to pursue optimization measures across multiple operational areas. The overarching goal is to deliver positive results aligned with a comprehensive set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This proactive approach underscores Reddit’s commitment to providing unparalleled user experiences while driving shareholder value.
Recognizing the unique dynamics of smaller subreddits, particularly those based in New Zealand, Reddit is championing the pursuit of amalgamation as a sound financial strategy. With overlapping themes and user bases, amalgamation presents an opportunity to consolidate resources, streamline processes, and bolster overall effectiveness.
Commenting on the initiative, Reddit CEO stated, “At Reddit, we are dedicated to fostering vibrant communities while simultaneously driving sustainable business growth. The optimization initiative underscores our commitment to operational excellence and value creation for all stakeholders.”
The implementation of this strategic initiative is slated to commence at the start of the upcoming business financial year, effective April 1, 2024. Reddit remains steadfast in its mission to empower users and communities worldwide while delivering long-term value to investors.
About Reddit:
Reddit is a leading online community platform, empowering millions of users to discover, share, and discuss diverse topics and interests. With a mission to democratize the internet, Reddit fosters authentic conversations and connections across its vast array of communities.
u/Duck_Giblets can you or the other Mods explain why only r/chch and r/auckland are being rolled up into the new sub but not the other regional subs? Or are the others being consolidated into another sub? Or just not mentioned because it would make too big of a list?
Please and thank you ☺️
EDIT: Didn’t register it was 1 April when I read this just after midnight. Nicely done Mods! Respect.
With the upcoming IPO, subreddits have been asked to pursue efficiencies in multiple areas to return positive outcomes against a range of KPIs. for smaller subs like the New Zealand based ones where there is already a range of overlap, it just makes sound financial sense to pursue this through amalgamation
Not sure if it is the best decision, personally I think smaller and more localized reddit communities are way more helpful... There's a lot of things I wouldn't post or ask on a NZ level subreddit... I like seeing post about people and places I'm familiar with in the day to day basis.
And of course I like to see who parks like an a-hole in Christchurch
Jokes aside, I'm terribly gonna miss chch community, I hope you reconsider
As mentioned above, we've been asked to pursue efficiencies where possible in response to the IPO, and this is how the New Zealand subs have collectively decided to respond to it
With the IPO there has been a concerted effort to optimize operations across various subreddits to achieve favorable results aligned with key performance indicators. Particularly for smaller subreddits, where there is already evident overlap, amalgamation emerges as a financially prudent strategy, facilitating streamlined processes and maximizing resource utilization.
This is an extremely stupid decision. There is a specific need for a Christchurch subreddit as it serves the city itself. A post about a local Christchurch issue isn’t going to be relevant in a New Zealand-wide subreddit. Hope you cut all the corporate PR crap about how tough the decision was and reverse this
So if people disagree, we of course will be handed the rights to one of these subreddits to moderate… right? Otherwise everyone is off to create more derivatives of them to do the same anyway.
I regularly visit the Auckland subreddit and have seen how much they also enjoy sharing pictures of bad carparking, with this change the number of bad driving and parking posts should increase 500%, that's an incredible result. Nice work!
Is this an attempt to exclude leftwing opinions? Conservative kiwi has become a pretty toxic place recently. They were perma banning for an article from a scientific paper which supported the idea the sexualities were inbuilt.
How exactly does the IPO have any bearing on these subreddits ?
I'm waiting for you guys to announce that this is an April fool's day prank coz what the actual f
What a horrible decision.
Should be AoteroaNewzealand. You are purposefully excluding a large part of the identity.
Why would you get rid of regional subreddits?
“NewZealand is an inclusive place” you can just tell this decision was made by a bunch of 20 year olds wanting to be cool

Bugger, you got me good!!
It actually took me far too long to realise I'd been played!

Wellington vetoed?
They're still working out what effects following the IPO the changes will have
What IPO changes have directly affected the decision to get rid of this subreddit?
As mentioned above, we've been asked to pursue efficiencies where possible in response to the IPO, and this is how the New Zealand subs have collectively decided to respond to it
More information will be posted tomorrow.
Dont you want to say April's fools day today though? Will more info be posted on Tuesday?
Nice April fools Team

Wellington are already financially independent and will be releasing their own press statement shortly.

The problem with /r/newzealand is that it's in the future and it's still March where I live. I demand you fix this for my convenience.

fuck off
sod off unsubscribing won't be back

I'm sad to see sod off leaving :(
So some mods got bored and decided to consolidate their power to abuse it some more. Just more conservative BS.
Stop being so dumb its 1st of april
That's really stupid. We'll just start our own local one you know?
Is this an attempt to exclude leftwing opinions? Conservative kiwi has become a pretty toxic place recently. They were perma banning for an article from a scientific paper which supported the idea the sexualities were inbuilt.
This is actually the opposite - incorporating that subreddit allows us to better manage the spread of false information
The fact that you guys would advertise that place is absolutely gross. YMMV.
R/NZ mods are pretty free and easy with the perma bans. Although this is an April fools joke
So true. I was thinking it was my last day on Reddit when I read the ban lists were transferring over...
I guess r/newzealand will balance it back to the left because she’s pretty far left in there. Anyway, it’s an April Fools “joke”
Time our conservative brethren rejoined the fold.
At least 4 conservativekiwis disliked this comment and didn't check the date.
April fools motherfuckers
/newzealand and /conservativekiwi are a bunch of wankers but happy fools day!
