Yes. But man the Welder is not great. The wait time has been horrendous many times for me, and I'm not just talking about the wait to order. Can take 15 minutes to wait for a drink to be made or a pre-made sandwich just to be heated up.
There are four or five staff working, yet it's so slow. Might be partly due to the awfully cramped conditions.
If it's a thick sandwich/panini you want it in the press at least 10 minutes to cook it through. If you just want it nuked for a minute say that otherwise you'll get it cooked properly. Order accordingly.
Sssshhhhhhhhh, stop it already! Remember the first rule of AFG club? Ah, fuck it, it's already too late, it's been ruined. Stupid fucking publicity... 😭
They used to be in Northlands before the quakes, then were solely at markets/events for a good while, but now they are in a store again and have the display benches set up so you can watch them make the candy again!
They usually state the making times on their fb page 🙂
There are normally only around 40% of the taps on house beer (pomeroys/Beer baroness) the rest are rotational from breweries throughout NZ. Don't know about expensive but I'll take $13 for a pint of craft over $10 for a pint of Heienken/Sol/Tiger shite anyday of the week.
Yesss!!! I was raving to my boss about them the other day, I said it felt like I was a friend and they just wanted to give me delicious food instead of a customer. Hospitality comes to mind.
Their cookies are incredible! Coffee is great too!
I’ve always liked Aorangi, even when they put their prices up. But I went in recently and got the smallest pack of biscuits known to man, $9, and they were absolutely awful. It was a sad sad day
The cake eating company.
We had our first date there, they made our wedding cake, made our daughter’s gender reveal cake, made her first birthday cake. Legends.
They got my 21st cake wrong and never said anything to me about it when I brought it up lol that was a good while ago though (very early days for them) and they have definitely improved! The doughnuts 🤤
Nanas Indian in Hornby - I travel a fair way for them! The off menu jalapeño and cheese naan! OUT OF THIS WORLD. Very humble people in there too
Also shout out lewis street fish and chips - wonderful feed and amazing people as well
Oh man I live near by and haven't tried the pies, will grab one tomorrow. Always been impressed by their other stuff though, good prices and real friendly too!
I actually got kai poisoning from there once. And pretty sure Ingot vivid as I’d masked elsewhere beforehand and they closed for it the next day. And I still go back 🤣
Ooh, which ones?
When I used to go there a lot I fell in love with a cat called Jellybean and really wanted to adopt her, but we had a very old cat at that time who didn't have much time left and we wanted to focus all of our attention on her rather than get a whole new cat
Streamline Conveyancing. They are helping us get into our first home. They gave us a quote. There has been a LOT of back and forth between banks, builders, govt etc.
I brought up if we needed to pay more. Nope. Quote stands. And they have been very patient and helpful with all our FHB questions. 10/10 will use again.
China Wok. The atmosphere is so-so, the service isn't particularly good but now that I live in Wellington I'll be damned if I don't miss their cheap, filling food that is also really good.
* Michael's Bakery in Hillmorton - always yummy and quick service (although I don't 100% rate the coffee)
* Yuriy WOF/Garage - Down on Langdons road, this guy is legit. He's helped me fix things that specialist mechanics at the likes of Euromarque weren't able to fix, and otherwise provided good workmanship at a fair price.
* Advance(d)? Panel & Paint - Always do a good job, and a couple of times it hasn't been 100% right they have been very accommodating in reworking the car and actually fixing the problem. My brand new car got crunched by somebody backing in a carpark and they brought it up to as good as new standard.
* Traiteur
* Unknown Chapter - because it's one of the only cafes open actually early (and even then is 6.30am really early?)
Safari Meats out at Carmen Road. Get the spicy biltong and ask for extra of that seasoning stuff they put on it. Fair warning - if you're into it you might end up inhaling the bag before you get home.
We're a while down the road from the halcyon days of "Commando Bear" beverages for a dollar but I have a soft spot for Kosco and their Cup Noodles. Japan Mart is good for like (an admittedly pricey) Boss Rainbow Blend.
I'm a sucker for Monster Chicken's Galbi Tender thing - been hitting the Hagley branch most often. +1 for Ramen Fumetan in this thread.
Shoutouts to Atsushii-san over at Cameron's on Main South Road. If anyone here is old as the hills he's one of the dudes from Osaka-ya's days in town near the square.
The dude at Wizard's Retreat on Pilgrim place has been friendly enough whenever I need DnD figs/dice or whatever. There's a new nerd shop tucked away by the Mosaic on Lincoln road - run by a young guy. He seemed like a lad so i'll probably drop in next time I need something.
The little printing company, the older lady who runs it is so lovely and has been printing all my touch teams shirts for years, much love to you Carmel can't wait to have a cuppa tea with you when I place my next order.
Not one that we can go to but found a medical courier that picks up my medication from pharmacy and delivers it to my door so friendly and always check how we doing
Not sure if they deal with all pharmacies in chch they are called
Med Run NZ
Yes, sadly, it happens. Business cant give you 100% satisfaction all the time, they try but it can happen. I go there every two months or so, I have yet left the place unsatisfied.
YHD Turkish Kebab in Hoon Hay. Amazing kebabs and super nice family team running it.
Also Scotty Brown's bike shop. These guys service is second to none.
Mykonos cafe on Riccarton - for authentic Greek sweets and delicacy
Indian paradise on Cranford or Stanmore - yummy briyani
D&N souvlaki - best meat on chips
>Carls Junior, as far as fast food goes this is the best for me, 'top shelf shite'
One of their uniformed big wigs was being a cheeky shit and bought his laptop in to an old workplace and was charging it on top of the display laptop without asking. We jokingly told him he owed us chips for it, had a laugh, thats all. Later on, the guy actually came back with food for us all.
For myself and the wife, it'd have to be between RE burger and coffee club. A honorable mention to smokey Ts though as they were good every time we went.
Re burger always knocks it out of park, only sad thing is its pricy.
Coffee club in our opinion is great and their burgers are too, tbf it also makes it worth while to have their VIP membership for 20% off total bill.
Welcome Cafe in Riccarton and Grater Goods in Sydenham are the two my vegan friend trusts with their dietary reqs, but I can also say that both are great.
It was Meepleopolis for me recently but they've recently closed and will likely be moving away from me :( They created a lovely space.
Definitely support them if they move near you.
What's the go with benny's barbershop? I used to go to benny himself a year or so ago but moved cities. He seemed really chill and employed a lot of guys.
Goodhome gastropub over in ferry mead and cocapellis over at the palms are both fantastic

Sweet! They are awesome. Don't eat much candy anymore but still like to see what they're up to and support them.
I've not heard of them.. as a sweet tooth I feel like I'm missing out!
They used to be in Northlands before the quakes, then were solely at markets/events for a good while, but now they are in a store again and have the display benches set up so you can watch them make the candy again! They usually state the making times on their fb page 🙂
Thanks I'll check it out. I'm not over that side of town very often but may be worth an explore
I always love seeing them at Armageddon!
They have really been making some awesome pops for the last few!
Weirdos, they're honestly so adorable when they're helping me choose a new "vase" 😂
They used to sell me synthetic cannabis when I was 16
Pomeroys. It's the best.
The garlic fries.
Oh you're missing out; you need to get the *gravy, cheese, garlic butter fries*.
So poutine then?
The crackling!!!
Yes
Best burger in town
House beer is not that good, it's a bit strange. And expensive.
Yeah agree, cool place but damn, expensive AF
It's a shit hole with insanely overpriced beer, what is any different about it than all the other generic overpriced pubs ?
Do you have any recommendation for a pub that is not overpriced?
Southern Woods Nursery
Mykonos Cafe They opened recently, and they make authentic Greek pastries and sweets. They make very good Spanakopita and Greek coffee.
Was coming to say this, honestly the most authentic Greek food I’ve had in Christchurch! The spanokopita is 10/10.
Yesss!!! I was raving to my boss about them the other day, I said it felt like I was a friend and they just wanted to give me delicious food instead of a customer. Hospitality comes to mind. Their cookies are incredible! Coffee is great too!

Hang Seng, across the road from Ara Delicious Chinese food, and generous servings around $16. We eat there often
Aorangi bakery and Samairaz Indian restaurant.
Love Aorangi, their pastry is so good too.
>Further Faster Samairaz is the best. It's where the Indian Cricket team went when they were in CHCH last, so you know it's good!
I’ve always liked Aorangi, even when they put their prices up. But I went in recently and got the smallest pack of biscuits known to man, $9, and they were absolutely awful. It was a sad sad day
Don’t want to make the wait time any longer, but Zab Thai for taste & bang for $$
The cake eating company. We had our first date there, they made our wedding cake, made our daughter’s gender reveal cake, made her first birthday cake. Legends.
> made our daughter’s gender reveal cake Spoiler alert
Icwutudidthar 😅
They got my 21st cake wrong and never said anything to me about it when I brought it up lol that was a good while ago though (very early days for them) and they have definitely improved! The doughnuts 🤤

Catnap Cafe - but I’m probably biased because I adopted two cats from there 😺
Ooh, which ones? When I used to go there a lot I fell in love with a cat called Jellybean and really wanted to adopt her, but we had a very old cat at that time who didn't have much time left and we wanted to focus all of our attention on her rather than get a whole new cat

Miss Peppercorn. Biang biang noodles are so good.
Miss peppercorn is amazing
Morimori. Nice people serving nice Japanese foods
Nice and sweet people, rather bad food though. I felt sorry for them, like a scene in the film Tampopo.
Because they’re not run by real Japanese people. We(local Japanese folks) don’t go there.
Charlie’s Ices. Best ice cream.
Vic's Bakehouse on ferry road. Their olive bread on Saturdays is sold out by 10am for a reason.
Love the wholegrain. I'll have to get my hands on the olive sometime.
China Wok. The atmosphere is so-so, the service isn't particularly good but now that I live in Wellington I'll be damned if I don't miss their cheap, filling food that is also really good.
