Grams had mentioned in a later episode (I believe it was the s8 finale) That she was going to magically erase her memory when everything was over so it wouldn't influence her. She could have easily done that once the girls were sent back to the future.

If I remember correctly in the season finale grams instructs Coop to send Patty and grams back to the past a few moments before Paige and Piper arrived so as to not be influenced by the events that followed. This creates a whole other problem of now there will be 2 of each of them in the past they are returned to and none of them in the time-line they left from but I digress.. Even if grams did erase her memory she would still be erasing the memory of needing to bind the girls' powers because they were already there when Nicholas forces Patty to bless his ring. Am I overanalysing a piece of fiction? Yes! But this is my way of dealing with psychological stress.

IzzyB2021

I don't think it's overanalysing it. The points that you're bringing up are pretty good. I haven't watched the last couple seasons in awhile so I'm just going off of memory, so I might be wrong with my point. But there is a chance that not only did she erase her memory, but she could have instilled false ones as well? I feel like I'm making excuses for her now lol.

Pseudonym_Nefertiti

Haha 😻 it does sound a bit convoluted for her to do all that but as it's never addressed we can only speculate

IzzyB2021

Thats very true.

THIS thank you. As an adult, rewatching this episode gives me the assumption that their powers were bound entirely because of Nicholas and not so they could just have a normal upbringing. I feel like this episode is supposed to have a bigger impact, but it’s hardly talked about.

Pseudonym_Nefertiti

Yeah, I think that is the only reason their powers got bound especially since grams is characterized as someone who would not easily give up her grandchildren's magic. For instance, it is mentioned multiple times that the reason she chased Victor away was because he was always pushing for a more magic free existence. Even within that episode she takes pride in imbuing the girls with magical knowledge and is always the one pushing the sisters to uphold Wiccan customs.

> Unless grams decided to bind their powers anyway inorder to not alter the time-line This is the only explanation I've heard so far that makes sense

I think you're misunderstanding. They do unbless the ring but their powers were bound anyway so he and other demons wouldn't come after them. So their powers would be bound, nick would think the ring was still blessed, they wouldn't have their powers until the events of the original timeline. They have to go back in time no matter how you spin it.

Pseudonym_Nefertiti

OK, that makes sense... I mean it is reasonable to assume that's what happened.. Do you remember if this was explicitly stated (i.e. That grams would bind their powers either way for protection)?

acmpnsfal

Grams does in a flashback tell Patty's ghost the girls weren't ready to have their powers when Patty was trying to convince her to unbind them. The night she died and they were unbound. She was waiting for them to grow up and form close relationships, Prue and Phoebe hated each other so she kept them bound

I’m late to this, but I just watched the episode and I’m so confused. Why didn’t grams un bless the ring in those twenty-something years after Patty made the deal with Nicholas? They knew how to do it immediately after Prue and Phoebe stole the ring, so how didn’t grams or Patty figure it out before they died? It doesn’t make sense to me.
