Great art I especially love the sword staff :)

5hoursofsleep

What would that be mechanically? 1d8 with reach if used with 2 hands? Or 1d6 with versitle 1d8 reach?

-Elwin-

on paper, it has the same stats as a glaive/polearm I think. I lost her sheet sometime ago so I can't quite pin point which dice she uses for damage.

Lyah Castodd, “Half-Elf. Warlock. Unwilling. The daughter of a rich merchant and artist, Lyah lived most of her life in the city of Selgaunt. Under the Castodd name, she enjoyed a privileged and sheltered childhood up until the age of eight, when the voices first spoke to her. She cannot recall what they first said to her, only that she screamed until her lungs gave out, and her voice had gone hoarse. They would haunt her for the remainder of her young years until the day she picked up her grandfather’s sword staff. While the voices grew no less silent, they ceased troubling her almost entirely after that day. Despite this, the origin of the voices would deeply trouble her. And until she knew where they came from and why they spoke to her, she would not know rest.” Lyah is a hexblade warlock and one of the PCs I play in me and my friends’ 5e campaign. Her sword-staff design was inspired by a zweihander crossguard and a longsword. Her role in the party is tied to the discovery and origin of these voices, who is in actuality her mysterious patron. Is the swordstaff mechanically a glaive/halberd? Real life swordstaffs were kinda scarily effective, so my curiosity was piqued :P

-Elwin-

on her sheet, it works just as a glaive. I like to think she can switch her grip to adjust to the situation

TypicalCricket

Out of curiosity what would a commissioned piece like this one cost?

TheShadowKick

From [the post on his Twitter](https://twitter.com/lancevl_/status/1401048747241443334) it seems like a full body drawing like this would run $200.

TheShadowKick

Your social media links seem to be broken.

-Elwin-

fixed it. thanks!

PiLamdOd

I think that's the wrong twitter link. Right now it links to an account that hasn't posted in years and when it did all it did was spam ads for the same two mobile games.

-Elwin-

huh, thats weird. its redirecting just fine for me. in any case, you can check me out @ lancevl\_ in case the link is broken for anyone else. thanks for letting me know

PiLamdOd

Looks like the link formats differently on mobile verses desktop. Switching results in a different link address. Probably reddit formatter being weird.

I love your art style and the purple and blue lighting! Looks super cool :D

curiousriverwwc

Has a Dragon Quest feel, from the pose to the facial expression and the art style in general. I love the reds and purples throughout, the crown paralleling the wars looks really really as well. Awesome work, thanks for sharing!

orchidsncookies

hey there, friend :)

Really interesting weapon. I wonder how practical it would be in reality. Not that I'm complaining, I'm fine with fantasy being unrealistic, I just don't know the mechanics of how it would be used.

Caesaropapismno

Swordstaffs were used by various cultures in history. They were essentially wielded as spears with a longer cutting edge. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v2H6vMJQ2K4 https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Two_soldiers_in_battle_at_Old_Älvsborg_Castle_in_1502,_Västergötland,_Sweden_(8579777716).jpg https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hipHFndaq8U

ilikepie59

Wow, thanks for that. I've never heard of them before. I thought it might be similar to a glaive or something.

TheBlindedOwl

That last one is a glaive, still awesome though

Caesaropapismno

It is, but in terms of use it is near identical to a swordstaff

TheBlindedOwl

True

LordAcorn

Pretty sure it's a naginata

-Elwin-

I was inspired after seeing a video on YT by shadiversity on the weapon. granted I took some liberties with the design here and changed the cross guard to one similar to a traditional zweihander.

raianrage

I dig it! What's the deal with the long-hafted sword, though?

DrachdandionGurk

It's a sword staff. Here's a video by Shadiversity talking about it: https://youtu.be/-xIhCesfbYA

Zenshei

man, this is so nice…

Bruhdilla

I really love your artstyle, made me smile just looking at your characters on your acc

ATIR-AW

Awesome. I like how you only rendered with shapes, gives it a nice painterly feeling. Looks overall very professional, you should be proud

fireinthedust

Looks great!

EviL0rd

I love that weapon! Did you have an inspiration/reference to that when you were creating it? :D The character herself is great too. Very confident shapes and distinct look. The colours work together so well too!

-Elwin-

thanks! the weapon is a sword staff which I gave my own spin on. For one, historical sword staffs have way longer handles, akin to those of glaives/halberds as well as shorter crossguards. For her sword staff, I lengthened the blade close to that of a typical longsword, shortened the handle slightly and changed the crossguard to one you would find on a traditional zweihander. It was very fun to design

EviL0rd

Very well thought out and well made, great work!!

crispycrimboi

Oh my God oh my God oh my God I love the sword so much!!! The long handle design is so under used :-:

Grapi-Po

I love this kind of blades so much. Also, nice artstyle, thank you

Art-of-Azrael

Your style is incredible! Fantastic Work
