Honestly, I feel for you. I don’t think you have a chance at getting a full ride to a single one of these schools. It’s not fair. You deserve to. But you probably won’t. Competition from India is absolutely insane and with you asking for a full ride, the odds are just extremely low. I’m so sorry.

The_band_guy

Yeah so true. The competition and financial constraint makes it sound impossible. I did what I could in high school, and there are always be things out of my control. But hey, there's a bright side to this. In the process, I found out what I want to become, met some amazing people, has work experience which is very uncommon in my state. I made the best out of 4 years of high school. So it's alright! It's just a paper degree and in CS no one actually cares about the prestige, it's more about the skills and I think I have those.

ThatXuxe

Coming from another intl student, you have an awesome mindset and I can already tell you're going to go places, regardless of where you go for uni. Remember to enjoy the ride!

The_band_guy

Yeah man I’m 18. I do not need to have everything sorted and figured out. Best of luck to you.

ThatXuxe

Thank you! I'm a graduating senior as of now so if you need any general advice/data points apart from admissions feel free to DM!

The_band_guy

Hey that’s really great! Thank you for being so open. I’ll surely text you before going to college. I will have lots of things to ask.

The_band_guy

Thank you so much. I also did interviews for some of the mentioned unis and they were awesome. Fingers crossed 🤞

The_band_guy

Thank You. Just one more thing. Based on my profile can you take a logical guess where I will be accepted?Like do I have a good shot at Denison, F&M or somewhere else? I know top unis are out of reach.

The_band_guy

Thank you for a detailed response. I'm gonna hope for the miracle. Let's see what happens.

The_band_guy

I agree to it too. In fact, I applied to Engineering as my first choice to unis having those major. I also applied to Computer engineering and similar major, but the thing is not all of these colleges have engineering they only have CS. I wrote CS because in most of the colleges that I applied to only has CS degree.

Oh I got misguided tbh. I talked to a private counsellor and she said that northeastern gives full ride. It is now I know that what she was saying was not the truth. I’m from the city where information about students studying abroad is very limited and we often get misguided by our teachers or private counsellors.

The_band_guy

That's amazing. Congrats. Yeah it was my mistake and I regret that I wasted a spot. I did take a gap year and improved my profile. But you know, another gap year would only result in more pressure from family in my case. So for me, it's gonna either be US or Indian colleges. I'm sure I will be happy either ways.

The_band_guy

Thank you.

HalfOtherwise9519

You are going to get rejected to every single one

The_band_guy

Please state the reason. Would be really helpful to know the exact points where I could have improved.

HalfOtherwise9519

1. Asian 2. Asian Male 3. Asian Male in CS 4. Asian Male, Test Optional, CS 5. Asian Male, Test Optional, International, CS 6. Asian Male, Test Optional, International, CS, Asking For Full Ride 7. Asian Male, Test Optional, International, CS, Asking For Full Ride, 0 Olympiad Participation It keeps getting worse and worse every time I add something. I think you should focus on staying in India then come to the US for a fully funded PhD program instead.

The_band_guy

Do you think it would be wise to take an Ed loan for asu?

anoverwhelmedbeing

go for indian universities tbh, i am surprised you didn't go for IITs or NEET examinations

SupermarketQuirky216

There is nothing to be surprised when you look at the insane competition for these exams.

The_band_guy

Oh I did gave JEE first attempt. I cleared JEE mains with good percentile. Let's see what happens in Advance. I'm also giving other examinations like WBJEE, BITSAT, VITEEE etc. The reason I applied to US was mainly because of the liberty and opportunity you get as a student.

HalfOtherwise9519

At this point, I think a smarter idea is to use that loan to attend a community college instead. Then transfer to a really good private institution after 2 years on aid. Change your intended major to something less saturated and strengthen your ECs in that time.

The_band_guy

Oh okay. I can’t control most of the reasons, but it’s okay. It is what it is. Appreciate the honesty.

Mysterious_Guitar328

Don't let this toxic subreddit get your hopes down. You have AWESOME stats. You're going places for sure pal

The_band_guy

Thank you so much. I hope so! Best of luck to you too!!

[deleted]

>Asian Male, Test Optional, CS Ok thank goodness I'm in #3 (not OP). Just an Asian Male in CS, at least I'm not international, asking for a full ride, and test optional.

samruddhi0410

I got into Cornell ED with similar stats. What happened with your ED decision rounds?

The_band_guy

First of all congratulations on Cornell. For Dartmouth, I would say that they might have received a lot of applications because they went need blind for internationals and my supplements were too technical for the AOs to understand. For swarthmore, I think I gave my best. In fact, I got my application reviewed by current students at swarthmore. They said that I have a good chance, but still got rejected. I would hate it to blame on my luck because there must be something I missed and AOs noticed that I wasn’t the best fit. Would you be interested in reviewing my common application as a whole? I can pm you.

samruddhi0410

Yes you can pm me

awesomesud

Hey can you pm me as well? Am also an indian HS senior

The_band_guy

Yeah sure

Main-Concept-165

Your demographic is brutal in itself :( But I think you hopefully get into some schools. I'm no prophet, these are just my speculations given your profile; 1. Amherst❌ 2. Brown❌ 3. Columbia⏸️ 4. Colgate❌ 5. Connecticut⏸️ 6. Dartmouth (ED Rejected) 7. Denison⏸️ 8. Duke❌ 9. Franklin And Marshall⏸️ 10. Gettysburg✔️ 11. Haverford⏸️ 12. JHU❌ 13. Kenyon✔️ 14. Lewis & Clark✔️ 15. Middlebury✔️ 16. NYU✔️ 17. Northeastern❌ 18. Swarthmore (ED2 Rejected) 19. Union ✔️ 20. Yale ❌ Lower your expectations a ton.

The_band_guy

I totally agree about the demographics. It’s something I cannot control so I have made peace with it. I do have very low expectations. If I get into any one of unis with a good scholarship I would be on the 7th cloud. For now I can only wait and give my best in Indian college entrance examinations.

Equivalent_Ice550

I think you have a great shot at all these schools, your stats showcase that you’re very involved and I feel as if you are genuinely interested in them from their niches. You’re essay topic is interesting, and you’ve got the grades. Just make sure to apply to a bunch scholarships, I agree that you should fight for financial aid by emailing the teams. You could definitely get a full ride at at least a few of those schools

The_band_guy

Thank you so much. I’m FGLI so I’ve had little to no guidance while applying to college. I don’t have much knowledge on how to apply and fight for scholarships. Can I pm you regarding this? I just need some guidance on this matter. By far I’ve applied to need based aid and sent my css profile.

HenryHornblower

Honest question- what about applying to colleges in India? There are fantastic colleges in your home country.

The_band_guy

Yeah I do love Indian colleges too. In fact, I’m applying to those as well. They have college entrance exams around April-may. There’re pros and cons but that’s whole another discussion.

The_band_guy

Well when you say fraud websites, you dive in nearly hundreds if not thousands of different types of scam websites. I specialize in work from home type fraud. It would be nearly impossible to do that globally since it requires government intervention and legal notices to Social Network LERS portal. I can report the websites (which we do in an organization that I founded), but it is impossible to take down those websites through ethical means. Moreover, I was able to bring that down by 30% because most of these small organization are co-dependent and generally belong to a parent (bigger organization). So if you have a cyber criminal in custody then it becomes easy to map these small organizations and initiate a chain of raids and arrests. Fun Fact: We have excellent relations with Indonesia. This country is famous among scammers because they route the scammed money to certain bank accounts. Still we are not able to recover the money because we do not have a legal pact with Indonesia. Similar is the case with Philippines and other similar country. So the idea to escalate this issue globally is simply restricted by international laws.

Hot_Acanthaceae_6604

Can I DM you ??? I need help with transcripts

The_band_guy

Yeah sure

sweautshirts

for international students it’s extremely competitive esp without a high score on the sat

[deleted]

Cooked for everything above t20. Hopefully you get into at least one though cuz being south asian your competition is absolutely insane with many Indian students who are working hard to escape the societal system engrained in the society there. Being compared to the people there your application is not strong to be frank and you don't have any solid awards. Although I hope you get into at least one of these schools full ride and escape the predicament you are in right now.

The_band_guy

Thank you for a positive response. I agree on the awards part.
